Dmitry Rogozhkin

Traversing the border between the reality and fantasy, artist Dmitry Rogozhkin masterfully creates images documenting the lives of the rich and poor. Cinematically lit, the dramatic portraits capture romanticized scenes of the luxurious and surreal decadent lifestyles of the cultured elite and contrasts them against other images of the gritty residences of peasants and street folk. Cast and treated as though it were a film about a distant dystopian future, the reality is that Rogozhkin’s work serves as a document the reality of Russia and the world today. The predicament being, the increasing difficulty for the lower classes to struggle to make a living in a world where the divide between the haves and have-nots continues to widen.
