“I remember that one time at Watkins Glen… We were arguing over a specific corner; about whether or not it could be taken absolutely flat-out. I could never do it. Every time, my right foot would lift. Then, during free practice, the red flag came out, and I saw Gilles’ Ferrari, in pretty bad shape, sitting on the tow truck”.
“The wheels had been torn off and the body was heavily damaged. Gilles stopped in front of me and, smiling, he said: ‘You were right, it doesn’t go through flat-out! I tried and it didn’t work!” - René laughs.
