Coax - Rafael Barba (Pt 2)

Rafael Barba x Reader

Imagine: The next morning with Rafael.

Part 1

The sun rays pierced through the windows, lighting up every inch of the room. The morning was quiet, and serene. Rafael slept on his stomach, with his arm resting over her hip as she slept curled up against him. The brightness woke her up first. She snuggled closer to the warmth, taking a moment to adjust to the brightness. When her eyes slowly opened, she smiled at the sight of a peacefully sleeping Rafael. She rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand to get a better look.

ARE U SERIOUS

HERES MY THING

The Tariq thing is utterly RIDICULOUS.

I feel like one of the first things Drake would have done following the incident was tell Liam?? Like he said himself that Liam wanted him to look out for MC and all that bullshit, so you’re telling me that Drake said NOTHING of Tariq forcing himself on her??? Or the fact that her door had no lock on it??? Or even MC??? Why didn’t she go up to Liam and was like yo your friend Tariq was way out of line IGH

Liam should have known something sketch as hell was going on if Drake was telling him anything since he was supposed to be watching out for MC??? But instead he just picks Madeleine probably because the Queen told him too???

SORRY HUN but if you’re not suspecting that something conniving as hell is going on then you are one DUM BOI

I DONT UNDERSTAND

I’m sorry but it makes absolutely no sense and I feel like there’s so many plot holes

IM REELING

about steve/sharon

So, all right, here’s what I’m hearing:

Steve/Sharon is awful because it is

1) awkwardly shoehorned in
2) out of character for Sharon, who deserves better
3) gross because Sharon is Peggy’s niece
4) homophobic, because Steve/Bucky
5) all of the above

can i just take this minute to sigh.

okay.

1-2) Forget the comics, where Steve/Sharon is a long-established thing. Rewind to one movie ago.

Sharon Carter moves next door to Captain America and secretly provides him with protection: the bright burning fuel of a thousand adorable fanfics. I’ve read this fanfic. You’ve read this fanfic. Steve thinks she’s the quiet, dark-eyed nurse who smiles at him in the lobby and asks him about the book he’s got under his arm in the elevator and plays bouncy bright modern music he can sometimes hear through the wall. She agrees to water his plant when he goes up to visit Gabe in New York. One time he watches her carry a spider in a cup down seven stories to let it out in front of their building, in the little patch of lawn where it’ll be okay. She’s beautiful, she seems kind.

He’s got a crush on her. That part’s canon, you know. Steve has a crush on her, carefully works himself up to asking her out, takes her turning him down gracefully.

Think about it from Sharon’s point of view. She’s not a nurse. She’s doing her job, and she’s doing it well, but she’s also really living there. Steve smiles at her in the elevator, asks her questions about her job, asks her to water his tiny potted basil plant for cooking when he’ll only be gone for three days, leaves his key under the mat. Steve carries groceries up for the old woman on the ninth floor. Steve listens to old music, which sometimes drifts in through her open window. Steve is beautiful, yeah, and sometimes she wishes he weren’t her job.

Of course, Sharon knows who Steve is, going in. Sharon grew up on stories of Captain America, parceled out like treasures from Aunt Peggy, who she adores. In the stories, Steve Rogers is brave and good and uses his strength to defend those who can’t defend themselves. Steve is a shield made of unbreakable metal, put between the vulnerable and harm’s way.

If you think Peggy told Sharon stories about Steve as a romantic hero, you’re out of your mind. Peggy didn’t tell Sharon about kissing Steve Rogers, about having Steve Rogers look at you like you’re the only woman on earth, about Steve Rogers’ blue eyes and sweet smile. Peggy told Sharon about how Steve Rogers dove onto a grenade when he was still a skinny trainee; Peggy told Sharon about Steve Rogers bringing the 107th home when he was captain of nothing, Peggy told Sharon about Steve Rogers putting himself between the world and the powers of darkness.

Sharon didn’t grow up imagining what it was like to be in love with Captain America. Sharon grew up wanting to be Captain America.

And that’s what she carries with her into the apartment, that fierce foundation of trust and belief in her idea of Aunt Peggy’s Captain America that she keeps waiting for Steve Rogers the man to shatter, only he never does. Steve Rogers the man is kind and brave and very tired, Steve Rogers is Captain America, and he is also beautiful and funny and has a crush on her and sometimes he sings along to the old songs he plays: It’s been a long, long time/Haven’t felt like this, my dear/Since I can’t remember when.

You try not falling a little in love with Steve Rogers.

Sharon takes what she knows about Steve Rogers and risks everything on the assumption that he really is Captain America, that he really is a shield against the dark. And she’s right. Sharon kills her boss for Captain America. Sharon helps rip apart the organization Aunt Peggy helped build on the assumption that Captain America is right. Sharon throws everything she has and everything she is into an enormously vulnerable act of trust and loyalty. STEVE MEANS A LOT TO HER, IN OTHER WORDS.

Steve is angry that she lied to him, sure (hey, remember how that’s the conceit in that neighbors AU you read, the drama that gets the romance going? reel it back in), but he clearly still likes her and respects her. Time has passed in the MCU. The romantic tension has been quiet and understated, but it’s been stretching between them for a couple years at this point.

Steve/Sharon is built into the narrative, there across two movies. A lot of it happens offscreen, yeah–but it’s there. Because you’d rather it not be doesn’t make it less so.

3) This is so disingenuous it makes me want to spit. They made a pretty big point about Steve not knowing she was Peggy’s niece. They have a history together–a readymade neighbors AU that fandom would be creaming itself over in any other situation. She is nothing like Peggy in looks or personality, so all that sexist shit about how Steve must only like her because he Sees His Dead Girlfriend In Her is just gross. Stop it.

4) Come on, fandom. It’s not homophobic for a male character who has an intense emotional relationship with another man to be interested in a woman. Steve/Bucky is a fantastic ship, and it’s the emotional relationship that ties the three movies together, but it isn’t canon, it was never going to be canon, and that’s fine, okay, that’s what fanfic is FOR. It not being canon isn’t in and of itself a homophobic choice.

You can accuse Disney and the MCU of homophobia for not including ANY queer characters in the movies, and I think you’d be right on the money. But them not making your ship canon isn’t homophobia.

And anyway, whatever happened to Steve Rogers being bi? Weren’t we all in agreement that Steve Rogers was bi, for a while?

5) …Are you, like, REALLY sure that what you’re mad about isn’t the part where Sharon got in the way of your ship?
