“Coming out as an ally is a deeply personal journey […]”
A post containing this message got a lot of backlash but here is what I think: There are violently homophobic families and communities out there, and I appreciate allies who don’t just keep quiet in the face of their loved ones spewing homophobic (and transphobic) shit, but speak up, and make their point clear, even at the very real risk of losing family connections and friendships. In fact, if you just keep quiet and wait for the topic to change in these situations, I don’t think you’re a real ally at all. “Allys” that don’t risk anything and just hide behind the fact that they’re in no danger since they’re cishet aren’t allys in the first place. So yeah, I do believe that “coming out” (egh) as an ally can be a deeply personal journey of getting involved with your local LGBT community, taking part in demonstrations, risking or losing family bonds and friendships in the name of protecting what you truly believe in…. etc.
Still doesn’t make allys a part of the LGBT+ acronym tho.
I figure the world is basically a machine. I don’t know who made it, if it was the Fates, or the gods, or the capital-G god or whatever. But it chugs along the way it’s supposed to most of the time. Sure, little pieces break off and stuff goes haywire once in a while, but mostly… things happen for a reason.
Well, landing on Ogygia definitely happened for a reason
