Raymond Felton Arrested on Gun Charges - The Knicks' Point Guard Pointed a Gun at Wife

Time and time again, athletes and celebrities see themselves as being above the law.

New York Knicks’ point guard, Raymond Felton is apparently is no exception to the hordes of celebrities and athletes who have been arrested for possessing illegal firearms.

Felton, was arrested on felony weapons charges, but was released on a $25,000 bail yesterday.

Felton was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday, on one felony and one misdemeanor count of illegal weapons possession.

The charges stem from his estranged wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton handing over a FNH 5.7X28 gun to the NYPD, claiming it was Raymond Felton’s.  It was loaded with 18 high-velocity bullets, the kind that can pierce through body armor.  The magazine contained 11 more bullets than would be legally allowed in New York for a legally possessed weapon.

Mrs. Raymondo-Felton claimed that Felton had waved the gun at her during several arguments in their Upper West Side home.

New York City has some of the strictest regulations in the country when it comes to illegal possession of firearms. Felton had originally bought the gun and magazine legally in North Carolina.  However, he never obtained a permit for it here in New York.

As a New York City Police Detective this is not an uncommon occurrence. Just because a weapon is registered, purchased and licensed in another state, it doesn’t mean that there’s any leniency if caught having it in an unregistered state.
