@sophiabush: Today I find myself attempting to pick up the pieces of my heart that have broken into such tiny shards, I’ll likely never find them all. Today I, and so many of my loved ones, lost an incredible friend. Dan Fredinburg was one-of-a-kind. Fearless. Funny. A dancing robot who
liked to ride dinosaurs and chase the sun and envision a better future
for the world. His brain knew how to build it. His heart was constantly
evolving to push himself to make it so. He was one of my favorite human
beings on Earth. He was one of the great loves of my life. He was one of
my truest friends. Please send a kiss to the sky for my friend Dan. His energy is so big and so bright, and it’s all around us, so put some love toward him today.
today is a sad day for Motorsports. today marks one year since Dan Wheldon, two-time Indy 500 Champion, died from injuries in a crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the season finale of the 2011 Izod Indy Car series. He was 33.
One year ago today, I as well as many others tuned in the IZOD IndyCar season finale in Las Vegas to see who was going to be crowned the 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Champion. There was 34 cars in the field. There was a lot of lasts in this race. Danica Patricks last race before she moved to NASCAR full time, it was the last day for those cars as they had new cars for the 2012 season which Dan Wheldon helped develop for a safer IndyCar future and it was Dan Wheldons last race. Dan Wheldon had a chance to win 5 million dollars if he could win the race because he was not a full time driver in 2011. The race started with a lot of side by side action which many fans like to see and it was clean racing until turn one on lap 11. Two cars made contact which triggered a 15 car pileup. Dan Wheldons car got airborne and hit the catch fence. Dan didn’t have a chance. He died from his injuries. After word broke out that we lost Dan from the crash, IndyCar and the drivers decided to do a 5 lap salute in Dan’s honor, his number was placed atop the scoring pylon. The 2011 season was over, a champion was crowned, but there was no celebrating.
The motorsports world hasn’t been the same since. Dan Wheldon we miss you, we miss seeing you out there on the track. You are forever a champion. Rest in peace. June 22, 1978-October 16, 2011.
RIP Dan, you will be missed. You, your family, and your friends will be in my prayers tonight, this is so sad and it just made me feel like posting it, its amazing how Joe decided to make a video about it, its very touching. I didn’t know Daniel but it’s sad how someone so young could lose his life that way.. You will forever be remembered, rest in paradise Dan. ♥
