Professor-Binns

Sybill: Sorry I’m late. I overslept.

Professor Binns: That’s fine dear. Just take a seat over there beside Mr. lockhart.

Sybill: Yes, sir.

Gilderoy: Wow, you’re almost as beautiful as me.

Sybill: Well, you obviously don’t have the sight.

Sybill: But you do have an interesting aura about you.

Gilderoy: Aura what are you talking about?

Sybill: I can read the future.

Sybill: Gift of sight. Runs in the family.

Gilderoy: Weird.

promo for the hpminorcharnet: Professor Binns

“Easily the most boring class was History of Magic, which was the only one taught by a ghost. Professor Binns had been very old indeed when he had fallen asleep in front of the staff room fire and got up next morning to teach, leaving his body behind him.”

hc that jily competed to see who could get the biggest reaction out of Binns. Lily won. She hopped onto his desk, conjuring a flower out of her wand and offering it to him, then using casual ghost pickup lines.

“Are you a ghost, Professor Binns? Because you’ve been haunting my dreams.”

“Miss-”

“Evans, sir.”

“Miss Evans please sit down.”

“I am sitting. Now has anyone told you before that you’re drop dead gorgeous Professor Binns?”

“Miss Evans my class is for facts-”

“You want to know a fact? Your spirit is so alive, Professor.”

Professor Binns only wrote one detention in his entire career. It was for Lily Evans thirty-nine years ago.

elennare  asked:

First, I wanted to say that I love love love your Harry Potter fics and what-ifs! thank you so much for writing them :) And I also wondered if you ever written what if the Dursleys had refused to take Harry in?

When Petunia Dursley refused to take Harry in she forfeited his birthright protection, so Dumbledore took the baby to the safest place he knew: Hogwarts.

The applicable staff (mostly just… not Snape) took Harry in on a rotating schedule as he grew from baby to toddler to child. They traded extra credit for babysitting among the older students, and Harry grew up knowing a few dozen different laps that were safe and warm to nap in.

This was a Harry who grew up among books, among old transient walls and learned professors. They gave Binns night duty sometimes, and let him talk young Harry to sleep. This was a Harry whose world changed, on principle, daily. The stairs moved. The walls became doors. You had to keep your eyes open–you had to pay attention. So he did.

He grew up in a school. Knowledge was power, but knowledge was also joy. This was his sanctuary. There was magic in his world from birth.

“The castle will keep him safe,” said Dumbledore, when McGonagall came into his office to complain for the eighth time about Albus’s rather cavalier take on child-rearing. “That’s what it does.”

Then why do we bother with chaperones ever,” McGonagall said, tempted to shriek it. “Should we let all the children run about willy-nilly at all hours, or just the orphan waifs?!

“He’s not a student. He’s a ward of Hogwarts. It will take care of him, Minerva.”

McGonagall walked off fuming. A cat with spectacle markings followed Harry almost constantly from ages three through four. At some point McGonagall was far enough behind on her paperwork, and had seen enough suits of armor carry the kid back to his room, enough draperies lift off the wall and tug Harry away from edges, and enough stairs creakingly shift their slope for his tiny toddler legs. She gave a grumpy sigh, stole some of Albus’s lemon drops, and resigned herself to a magical world.

The Grey Lady, the ghost of Ravenclaw Tower, didn’t really like boys but she liked children. She especially liked patience, and politeness, and Harry had been raised by McGonagall’s stern table manners, by Victorian portraiture and quite a few House Elves. He said please, thank you, and ma'am, and as a child he was very cunning in how he got bedtime stories and bedtime snacks out of most every adult he met.

The Grey Lady told the best stories, you see, the ones with riddles in them. You had to think and ask questions to get all the way through them. So he hunted her down with big patient eyes and plates of very smelly cheese, and she told him stories that made him think.

When Harry was stable enough on his feet to walk, and then to run, Sir Cadogan would race him through the castle, the knight scattering banquet tables and galloping across landscapes, twisting through the abstract gallery up on the seventh and a half floor. Harry stumbled and sprinted up stairways and didn’t notice for years the way Cadogan waited at the end of corridors for him to catch up.

Harry was a chubby-legged toddler, in this world–cute cheeks and stubby limbs. It’s a cute image, yes– but this is important. He was a chubby kid. He ate in a high chair on the teacher’s dais, getting peas and mashed potatoes on the adults beside him– Sprout laughed. Snape didn’t.

But this is important–Harry filled his plate. He wobbled up on little legs and grabbed biscuits from the table, slurped his soup, got marinara sauce on his chin and forehead and somehow behind his ear. When he was hungry, he ate. If he snuck down to the kitchens at night, it was for the adventure of it and nothing else. When he was hungry, he ate.

When he was four, they started letting him go sit down with the students. Bill Weasley, on route to be a prefect next year, took him under his wing and scrubbed his face down after meals. Harry was passed around the Hufflepuff table; theirs was the House Common Room he most liked sneaking into, with its barrels and cozy warmth. Nymphadora Tonks turned her nose a dozen different shapes to make Harry laugh, gurgling, as a toddler (and then a child) (and then for the rest of her life, honestly–it never stopped being funny).

The whole Ravenclaw table got distracted from meals, trying to solve riddles from a book one of their Muggleborns had smuggled in.Harry pushed his fork through his gravy, trying to draw out his thoughts but only making squiggles.

It was years before Harry sat at the Slytherin table for the first time–no one had ever set him down there, like they had with the others. But he liked green–it was the color of Professor Sprout’s greenhouses, where he went and napped sometimes in winter. It was the color of his mother’s eyes, from the little book of moving pictures Hagrid had given him when he was three.

All the Slytherin kids seemed big, but everyone Harry ever met seemed big–except for Flitwick, who was seeming smaller with every growth spurt. He leaned forward, teetering on the bench, and grabbed a chicken drumstick. “Hi,” he said, because he’d had a childhood full of tea parties with high portrait society– the French nobility and the tired housewife from the third floor and an old witch with her sleeve on fire but very particular table manners. “I’m Harry. What’s your name?”

By the end of the meal, they were flicking peas across the table with their spoons, like catapult projectiles. Harry had been unwelcome in so few places in his life, after he’d left 4 Privet Drive, that he simply didn’t expect it. He asked Warrington, a Slytherin with shoulders like a bulldog’s, to help him with the juice, which was too unwieldy for his kid-sized wrists. Harry sat there blinking, smiling, until Warrington took the jug and poured him a brimming glass.

  • the day that Teddy first left for hogwarts harry gave him the marauders map
  • harry told him that this map was created by their fathers, and that it was passed down to him during his time at hogwarts and it was about time it was passed down to him
  • teddy’s golden eyes lit up when he pulled out his new wand and tapped on the parchment echoing the words ‘mischief managed’, seeing the name moony appear on the torn map
  • for the entire ride to school, teddy locked himself in a compartment by himself, trying to get moony to say something, anything, to him.
  • nothing appeared, no matter what he said or how hard he poked his wand at the parchment. but before teddy could get too disappointed, the train stopped and he was greeted by a familiar (albeit giant) face who lead him and the other first years to the castle
  • teddy, partially due to him being a metamorphmagus, but mainly due to the fact he was by far the funniest student at the hufflepuff table, quickly made friends with every boy in his dorm
  • that night teddy entertained all the boys in his room with his ability to morph into anything they asked, and before they knew it, daybreak was creeping over the landscape

if Hamilton had come out during the Glee Era, this is what the episode basically would be

- Opening scene: ND in the classroom talking among themselves. Schue walks in wearing full period costume. Everyone is confused and a little ashamed. Schue tells them he’s discovered they’re all failing history, and one of them tells him history is just SO BORING.

 - cut to a scene of somehow all the kids in the same class in various stages of unconsciousness while a Professor Binns type teacher drones on about the war of 1812.

- Schue assures them history is TOTALLY COOL, informs them about Hamilton, tries to white rap his way through either Guns and Ships or Yorktown. Santana makes that “why am I surrounded by white fools” face that she always makes. Hamilton is the assignment this week, even though COMPETITION looms in the future, but when have they ever actually practiced before the week of?

- Blaine has been super friendly with some guy from Dalton or from Hairgellers Anonymous or something, is constantly liking his posts on FB. Kurt sings “Burn” over a montage of Blaine ignoring him in ridiculous situations that no one would ever be on their phone during.

- Rachel has decided this week is one of the weeks where she’s aggressive about becoming a star, sings Satisfied.

- Tensions are getting high, so Artie flawlessly white boy raps through “What’d I Miss” while Mike dances, to lighten the mood.

- The kids are learning about Hamilton, but Schue is worried they’re not REALLY learning the point he’s trying to get at.

- Probably the Unholy Trinity sings “Schuyler Sisters”

- Schue walks back in on the kids excitedly talking about the show and/or history in general. Smiles that smile he smiles when he thinks he’s a good teacher. “See you guys? History is now. You’re the founding fathers. You’re the underdogs. Your time is coming, you just have to wait for it.”

- New Directions: YEAH!

- The group sings “Wait for It” in the auditorium either in full costume, or wearing just vaguely matching outfits. Finn takes lead, but Mercedes comes in on the middle solo.

- They all smile at each other at the end, while Schue makes that face again.

- Sue is in the background glowering that ND has managed to not fall apart yet again.

  • Sirius and James use the public library’s computers in a muggle town until they get banned forever
    • all unbeknownst to Remus until the first day back at Hogwarts

anonymous asked:

hey would you ever do a "what if harry potter had been a girl" story? or a trans girl? i don't know how much gender would change things except other people's perceptions but...

Hermione went to the library, when Harry first confided in her. Whatever the faculty, the administration, or the Ministry believed or didn’t believe, the Hogwarts library gave the children what they needed and always would.

Hermione came back with books and books on gender in wizarding history, on the spells and words wizards had used for centuries or decades or mere years, and she and Harry bent their heads together and figured out what words Harry felt best told her story. From her hometown library, after that first summer, Hermione brought back memoirs and brightly-colored pamphlets that Harry read through instead of finishing her Potions homework.

When Harry looked in the Mirror of Erised, she still saw her mother, her father, all her gathered, lost kin. The specter of her father gathered up her hands in his. Her mother pushed back the long dark hair Petunia had always made her cut short and she called her beautiful.

When she looked into it again, after Devil’s Snare and winged keys, giant chess and Ron lying prone on the floor, Hermione wringing her eleven year old hands in the potion riddle room– When Harry looked into the Mirror again, she saw herself, just herself. The girl in the mirror winked and smiled and slipped the Stone in Harry’s pocket. No matter what other wishes and want laid on her narrow shoulders, at the end of the day the thing Harry wanted most was to help. Harry brushed one hand over the lump of rock in her robe pocket, and then brushed her other over her mess of hair, which was feet shorter than the girl in the mirror’s.

She woke up in the hospital wing, bedside table piled high with candy.

Once Harry and Hermione had sussed out between them what the words were for what was going on here, they had explained it to Ron. Harry didn’t come out to anyone else until partway through second year, though, at the height of the Heir of Slytherin nonsense.

She was fed up, then. She just wanted to be left alone, and this wouldn’t help with that, but they were all already staring. Keeping this to herself felt like a vice around her chest. Hogwarts was supposed to be better.

After, Ron came almost to blows with anyone who goggled or sniffed or rolled their eyes. Seamas learned to swallow his tongue. Draco Malfoy didn’t. Hermione wrote up an explanatory note about appropriate pronouns in her best penmanship and then copied it with flicks of her wand. With Harry’s embarrassed permission, she gave it to every professor Harry had or would ever have.

Colin Creevey stopped her in the Great Hall with a tug on her sleeve. She turned, shoulders rising, and the kid said in his piping voice, “You’re still my hero.”

That was better than it could have been, but she wasn’t sure she liked the “still.”

Peeves, though he was nasty about everything else–ickle firsties and orphan girls–got it immediately. For all six years of her Hogwarts tenure, he dropped water balloons on the heads of anyone who misgendered her. Professor Binns never quite figured it out, but he didn’t know any student’s name. Nearly Headless Nick gallantly and somewhat awkwardly called her lady and tried to hold open doors for her, despite the fact that he couldn’t open them.

Snape called Harry “Mr. Potter” for all seven years that he was in Harry’s life. Around year three, Ron stopped counting the detentions he got for his increasingly sarcastic responses to this.

The whispers about the Heir of Slytherin grew louder and louder, keeping pace with “Uh, I thought it was the Boy Who Lived?” Fred and George Weasley took it upon themselves to walk Harry to and from class when they could, talking loudly enough to drown everything out.

Then Hermione got Petrified and the Heir whispers stopped abruptly. Harry, if she hadn’t been busy with Ron trading off reading their assigned textbooks aloud to Hermione in the infirmary, might have felt gratified that the whole school knew how much this bushy-haired kid meant to her. Alright, so they thought she might murder Muggleborns with a mysterious monster, or sic a snake on her opponent in a dueling club? But they knew she wouldn’t hurt Hermione for anything.

In the Chamber, she met Tom Riddle. He was supposed to be her mirror, though she didn’t quite know that yet. He was supposed to be her shadow, the chain around her ankle, the other half (or another eighth) of her story and his soul.

Ginny had been trying to speak for months– to tell someone, to open the diary and the bag under her bed full of chicken-blood-stained robes and to thrust them into the light. But Percy had shushed her, all his assumptions orbiting his own importance to her story. The teachers had patted her on the head. She had been frightened, eleven years old with Tom whispering in her ear, guiding her hands.

Harry had been trying to speak for years– to explain to someone the way she did not feel like Dudley, like Vernon, like the boys in the locker room at school. Hermione had listened. Hermione had given her books and books of people who felt like her. Ron had listened, and taught her wizard’s chess, and kicked Draco in the shins.

But here Harry was, standing alone– a red-haired lump at her feet, dark robes sodden with moldy water. Hermione was frozen. Ron was trapped behind a rock fall and Tom was pacing, gloating, glowing. Ginny was breathing. Ginny had to be breathing. Harry was going to save her. She had to, because no one had listened to the kid, not even Harry.

The phoenix tears left no scars on Harry’s arm. Riddle, the Chamber, the life going out of her, everything that had happened in that long year– none of it left scars on Ginny, or at least none that anyone could see.

When Harry got back to 4 Privet Drive that summer, she suffered through Aunt Petunia’s annual hair cut and then she curled up with Hedwig and wrote a letter. She wrote about the Muggle candies she missed when at Hogwarts, and how her cousin thought she was weird for being excited about summer homework. She asked Ginny how she was.

Ginny wrote back after a long week. She didn’t answer the question, but she wrote about helping Dad on the car, about the apple harvest coming, and Fred and George playing pranks on the ghoul in the attic.

History classes sucked and that was the truth. It wasn’t just the numerous wars and revolutions, in fact, they were quite interesting but the drawling, ghastly voice of Professor Binns made everyone sleepy and bored. This would often result to students waking up by the end of the class, only to find out there was a homework about the earlier discussion and you should consider yourself lucky if someone was even awake enough to listen.

As was the case of (Y/n).

And no, she was not awake that time.

She was half-asleep when the professor announced a group homework and her group mates were none other than the four, troublesome Gryffindors. To be quite honest, they were not as laid back as she thought they’d be. They would help one another when it comes to studies and rumour has it, they would even stay up all night to review. No one has confirmed this rumour, of course, but she was quite confident in their abilities since their high grades were enough evidence especially her long time crush, Remus Lupin.

She was on her way to their dorm, carrying with her her school books to get started on the homework, when Peter Pettigrew came running down the stairs.

“Pettigrew! Where are you going? We’re supposed to start on the homework, remember?” She said.

“Sorry, (L/n). James and Sirius has detention the whole day today.”

“What?” She frowned, “But the deadline’s tomorrow! I can’t do this by myself!”

“Yeah, sorry. I wish I can help you but…uh, Remus is upstairs. He can certainly help you out. Anyway, I gotta go. See you around!” Peter said before scurrying away quickly.

(Y/n) did not know why he was in such a hurry or what could be more important than their homework but her heart jumped at the mention of her crush’s name.

She wanted to get this homework over and done with. She had put too much faith on James and Sirius and now that they were in detention (no doubt another prank), she had to make do with what she have; not that she didn’t mind studying with Lupin. It was because she couldn’t focus on anything when she’s alone with him. It had happened before and she did not understand a single lesson.

She marched upstairs while mumbling furiously, planning out how she will done the two in and bury their bodies next to each other. She had not noticed their door slightly ajar and so when she opened it, her eyes saw the most unexpected scene that made her regret ever coming in. Remus Lupin was standing with his back turned to her, slowly pulling his shirt over his head. His back was littered with long, red scratches and scars but the arch of his spine made her blush, his shoulder blades made her heart pound, and the tiny dimples on his back made her wet.

(Y/n) was immediately frozen on the spot. She did not know if she should leave or shout at him for not locking his door. Either way, she had to decide quick because time was running out and Remus was already turning around.

His eyes fell on her immediately but he did not seem taken aback by her presence. Instead, he smirked and watched her eyes widen in surprise.

“Can I help you?” He asked casually.

It made her melt, her mouth hung slightly open and all the air from her lungs felt like they have been sucked out by a vacuum. She bit her lip to try and swallow her words but her heart was beating so loud that she became unaware of what came out of her mouth.

“I, uh, need some help with something,” she said with a smile which Remus interpreted as a positive response. He walked towards her and every step that he took, made her walk backwards nervously until she was pressed against the door, closing it with a soft thud. He reached towards her face and gently brushed the back of his finger on her cheek, trailing down to her chin to meet his eyes.

“And what is that?”

(Y/n) looked at him with wide eyes before looking down at his lips. She was so tempted to know how they taste like, how they feel like. She wanted him badly but she decided to play along. Her awkward self was now long gone.

“Homework. I can’t do it by myself, you know.” She said with a smirk. She did not know where this sudden burst of confidence came from but it was leading her to get where she wanted to be.

“Well, good thing I’m here for you, aren’t I? None of my friends are here too so we have the room all to ourselves.” He said, twirling a piece of her hair before tucking it behind her ear.

“Don’t you think I should come by some other time?” She said, “You’re not fully dressed.”

Remus looked down at himself and chuckled, “I would be if you knocked on the door.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” She teased, making Remus growl and grab her face, kissing her lips passionately.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back, her tongue trailing along his lips while he firmly kept his hands on her hips. Both of them have wanted this for so long but they never had the chance to know about how they felt towards each another since his friends were always teasing him. He did not ever want this moment to pass and so he moved his hands up and down on her body, feeling every inch of her skin, memorizing it in his mind. Hearing her moan softly was like music to him, knowing that he was making her feel good. He licked her neck and softly nibbled her ear before whispering.

“Do you want me?” He asked and although they haven’t gotten very far, he wanted her to assure him that she wanted him as much as he did. She slipped her fingers through his soft, brown hair and gave him his answer after a quick kiss on the lips.

“I do. I’ve always do.” She replied, making Remus smile excitedly like a little school boy who had just received his candy.

He carried her in both of his arms and laid her down on his bed before crouching towards her like a hungry wolf. She bit her lip and watched him hover above her, her eyes set on his. He leaned in and began to kiss her once more while she pulled him close with her legs. She felt his hard on press against her clothed heat, making him moan back. He continued to grind against her in a rhythm so pleasurable that made her sure her underwear was soaking wet by now. He pulled apart from her mouth and trailed kisses from her neck to her collarbone, lowering the top of her shirt to reveal more skin.

Watching him taste her and lick her was once a dream she would fantasize about at night while playing with herself but now that it was happening, she wanted more than just this. Remus stopped and pulled the top of her shirt once more, peaking down at her bra with a smirk.

“Take this off for me, darling, would you?” He asked in a polite yet lustful manner.

(Y/n) did not hesitate and sat up to remove her shirt, revealing to him her black laced bra with a tiny white bow between her breasts. She bit her lip and beckoned him with a finger.

“Remus…” She moaned, driving him mad.

He leaned in to her hungrily and cupped her breast in his hand, “ ‘This for me, darling?”

He fondled her and massaged her as she continued to moan his name in his ear. He pinched her nipple through her bra while she reached behind her back to unclasp it. Remus pulled it by the straps before tearing it from her body, throwing it on the other side of the room. She laid back down once more as he kissed her, his hands now reaching through her underwear to feel her wet womanhood. He pressed his thumb on her clit like a button, his other finger teasing her soaked entrance.

His lips went down to her breasts and closed around her nipple while he kept his fingers busy, rubbing up and down her slit. He pushed two fingers in and as she moaned, he began to move them, her wetness making it easier for him to slide in and out.

“A-ahh, Remus…”

“Feels good?” He asked but he did need to hear her answer.

The way she writhed at the mercy of his fingers was enough evidence. He continued fingering her until she was about to reach her climax, pulling it out before she could release. She glared at him for delaying her but he did not say anything. He tugged down her shorts and tossed it by the bed before removing her underwear that matched her bra. He placed it in his pocket and started to unbuckle his belt.

“You’ll have it back tomorrow.” He said. The thought of her going back to her room with no knickers under her clothes aroused him.

He pulled down his boxers next and (Y/n) licked her lips at the size of his impressive length. He was already hard and the tip was leaking pre-cum. She spread her legs in front of him, showing him how wet she was. Remus’s eyes darkened with lust at the sight, capturing it like a picture to wank himself to. He crawled back on top of her and held his cock before running the head up and down her soaking slit, teasing her.

“Remus, no…I-I want you,” she said, desperation in her voice.

He leaned in to her and kissed her softly before slowly easing himself inside, pushing his thick manhood in her wet cavern. Inch by inch, he filled her pleasurably, making her moan into his kiss. He pressed his forehead against her and pulled out gently before pushing back in one thrust.

“Oh, love…You are so tight. Feels so good for me, darling.”

He praised, his elbows planted on the mattress as he began to move in a slow, teasing rhythm. (Y/n) moaned at every hard and slow thrust he gave. Soon enough, he increased his speed with an even harder impact than before. Her walls clamped tightly around his length at every push and pull, his lips capturing hers.

His hands both gripped on the headboard as he roughened his thrusts, his nails scratching the wood. He was hitting her g-spot now and he was going fast and hard, making the headboard slam against the wall. He moaned at how wet she was becoming, whispering to her praises like how good she made him feel. He could tell she was close and so he carried her by her waist and sat up, allowing her to move up and down on his thick length.

“Oh my God, Lupin! I’m so close…”

“Go on, love. Come for me,” he encouraged, pressing his lips on her skin. He was getting close as well and with one last thrust and a hard slam of her bum on his thighs, the two finally reached their climax.

“A-Ahh!” Remus moaned as he started to cum inside her, thick spurts of his seed marking her walls as his. He groaned in immense pleasure while she soaked him with her juices, her head thrown back and her eyes closed. He kept his arms around her, her hands on his shoulders as his cock began to soften. He laid her back down and pulled out, his cum trickling down from her slit. (Y/n) smiled and ran her fingers through her hair.

“Wow…That was splendid.”

Remus panted and smiled before cleaning her up. He laid back down by her side and tucked her in with his blanket, pulling her to his chest.

“So are we dating?” He tried to asked confidently but his fear of just being a one-night stand made him worry. He wanted to start a relationship with her and not just a physical relationship to help him let out his frustrations. He loved her deeply and if she did not want him, it would surely break his heart.

However, (Y/n) smiled and nodded, “Of course!”

Remus gave a breath of relief and returned the smile, “Hogsmeade on Saturday, then?”

“I’d love to, Remus.”

She kissed his lips softly before resting her head on his shoulder, falling asleep by his side.

Aro/ace wixen who feel alone becoming elated in History of Magic - for the first time probably since Hermione Granger got excited and asked questions about the Chamber of Secrets - when Professor Binns starts mentioning famous wix who never had relationships or never ended up married. One brave aro wixen shyly raises their hands and asks if any of those famous wix might have just been aromantic or asexual. Professor Binns stops a moment and then replies “yes, undoubtedly. In fact, the great Merlin was quite open about his own asexuality.” Binns tries to move forward from there, but aro/ace students keep raising their hands to ask if this wizard or that witch or those wix were aromantic or asexual. Binns is a ghost stuck in his routine. But aro/ace wixen keep passing it on to the younger generations that if they ask about Merlin or Morgana or an assortment of other wix throughout history, Binns will mention they are aromantic or asexual (or both), and eventually it becomes a part of Binns’ habit to introduce those famous wix as aromantic/asexual.

For many, History of Magic just became a little more magical because that’s where they learned that they weren’t broken and they weren’t alone.
