Today on Musica in Extenso:
Ludwig van Beethoven:
Overture to “Egmont” op. 24
Conductor: Kurt Masur
A powerful, dramatic and expressive work, that was written as a set of incidental music pieces for the 1787 play of the same name by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, between October 1809 and June 1810.
We can observe, that the composer focused on a very impressive orchestration and an authentic sounding experience. The overture is fulfilled with dramatic lines. This overture appears very frequently in concert halls and it has become as famous a composition as the Coriolan Overture.
