In The Dance of Life, Tulla Larsen, Munch’s muse and lover, is depicted as an innocent woman dressed in white, a sensual woman in red, and a grieving woman in black. The couple in the centre seem blissfully unaware of their surroundings, but the severe-looking woman on the right watches them in a way that implies her condemnation of love and lust.
