Melissa Singer: “The shot I’ve waited all night for. I learnt last night from Nicole Kidman that she has the “real” Galliano at home. This one is a runway replica of her 1997 Oscars dress, still hailed as one of the best red carpet gowns of all time.“
I cannot begin to explain how powerful seeing paintings by Vincent Van Gogh in person was. Van Gogh is my favourite artist, his capture of beauty through sorrow, or in spite of it, is one of the most admirable things I’ve learnt about in my life so far. Van Gogh’s life in equal parts fills me with sadness and hope. In the gallery last night, leaning in, seeing the chunks of oil paint, bright and dark, so old, so well preserved and so real was such emotional clarification of there being beautiful things that this world cannot tarnish. I hope Vincent had at least the smallest inkling that he was truly capturing it, on high, for so many of us forever.
