[fuse] 2016 fall music preview: the 31 albums you need to hear

written by: jeff benjamin
release date: tbd

why we’re excited: the long-running k-pop favorites have been teasing a new album since this summer and all signs point to an upcoming fall release. while a shinee release is always cause for celebration, the group’s members have had time to grow with impressive solo ventures (in particular, taemin’s bruno mars-written “press your number” and jonghyun’s very excellent she is album). coming together as five should not only produce the quality listeners have come to expect from the boy band and likely push them towards new, artistic growth. especially if they tackle an unexpected genre, like they did with deep house on 2015’s “view”.

Huma Abedin is separating from her husband Anthony Weiner in the wake of his latest sexting scandal.

The Clinton campaign manager released a statement on Monday morning just hours after the New York Post reported that Weiner had been sending lewd texts to another woman behind her back, marking the third time he had been caught in the act in the past five years.

Making matters worse, one of the pictures was of Weiner showcasing his manhood in a pair of boxer briefs while the couple’s four-year-old son Jordan lay asleep next to him in bed.

‘After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband,’ said Abedin in a statement.

‘Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy. ‘

Abedin was seen smiling in the Hamptons on Sunday evening just before news of her husband’s latest sexting scandal broke.

Photos taken of the political staffer show her in high spirits at around 7pm as she and boss Hillary Clinton headed off to a fundraising event at the beachfront home of Marcia Riklis after a very lucrative weekend during which the campaign raised millions.

Later that evening, Clinton was photographed as she departed Riklis’ home and got into her waiting van. Moments before a dejected looking Abedin was also photographed as she exited the event.

Clinton looked stern and serious as she spoke with Riklis while exiting the home, and immediately got on her phone once inside the van.

Weiner has kept quiet since the scandal broke on Sunday night, and on Monday morning deleted his twitter account.

In other texts allegedly sent to the unnamed woman, a brunette divorcee, Weiner spoke about being ‘horny as f***’ and sent a variety of emojis that were sexual in nature.

He also reportedly admitted to masturbating while thinking about the woman in a text, allegedly calling her a ‘fantasy chick.’

The most damning of the snaps though is Weiner laying in bed wearing nothing but his boxer briefs while his five-year-old son with Abedin, Jordan, sleeps next to him.

‘Someone just climbed into my bed,’ Weiner allegedly wrote to the woman before sending the photo, which clearly showed the outline of his manhood.

She responded by writing back: ‘You do realize you can see you[r] Weiner in that pic??’

The photo was sent shortly after 3am on July 31, 2015 from Weiner, who reportedly grew concerned moments later thinking that he may have publicly posted the photo.

‘Ooooooh … I was scared. For half a second I thought I posted something. Stop looking at my crotch,’ Weiner reportedly wrote back to the brunette beauty, who is a Trump supporter.

Weiner also talked about the size of his manhood frequently in conversations with the woman, at one point saying: ‘Id [sic] put someone’s eye out with this thing. #Overdue.’

That text came following a workout, which Weiner reportedly said left him ‘raging.’

Politico reports however that that Weiner and Abedin have been estranged for the past year.

The news broke as Abedin was with her family and son Jordan in the Hamptons on a working weekend trip Weiner was not invited to attend.

‘It’s a difficult day but she’ll get through it,’ said one of Abedin’s close friends.

A fellow Clinton staffer also said that Abedin will make it through this touch time, adding: ‘Anything that ensures he’s no longer around is good news.

In addition to the damage this latest scandal has done to his marriage, it is also causing professional problems for Weiner.

Gene Wilder's Greatest Ever Screen Roles

The legendary Gene Wilder has passed away at the age of 83. Born Jerome Silberman in Milwaukee in June, 1933, he took his stage name in his mid-20s from the writer Thomas Wolfe’s character Eugene Gant and the playwright Thornton Wilder. Studying with the revered Lee Strasberg, the father of ‘method acting’, and known for his work with both Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor, Wilder will be remembered as one of the truly great comic actors not only of his generation, but of all time.

Here are some of his finest moments on screen…

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Director Mel Stuart desperately wanted Wilder for the lead in his 1971 adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’ from the off, but Wilder himself wasn’t sure. So, he suggested to Stuart the conceit for his big entrance, where he emerges from the factory with a walking stick before tumbling to the floor and landing feet first ‘to great applause’. Stuart asked why. “Because from that time on, no one will know if I’m lying or telling the truth,” he replied. It proved the very essence of Wilder’s iconic portrayal.

The Producers

The actress Anne Bancroft was working with a promising young actor in a 1963 Broadway production of the Bertolt Brecht play ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’, and told her boyfriend – later her husband – Mel Brooks that she might just have found the very person for his new comedy movie, then called ‘Springtime For Hitler’. It was three years later that Brooks called Gene Wilder in to read for the role of nebbish accountant Leo Bloom, with his lead Zero Mostel already in place and given full approval of his co-star. Needless to say, Mostel approved. Wilder was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar too.

Silver Streak

Perhaps not as lauded as his other work with Richard Pryor, ‘Silver Streak’ is a star-studded, screwball delight, helmed by Arthur Hiller. As book editor George Caldwell, he witnesses a body being thrown from a train, soon becoming embroiled in skullduggerous plot of art forgery and teaming up with Pryor’s crook on the lam. Hiller also died earlier this month, aged 92.

Blazing Saddles

In his second outing with Mel Brooks, Wilder was scarcely in better form playing the Waco Kid, the recovering alcoholic gunslinger who teams up with Cleavon Little’s scandalous Sheriff Bart. Both Dan Dailey and John Wayne turned it down (it was too blue for Wayne’s family-friendly image), with the role eventually going to Gig Young, Oscar-winning star of ‘They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?’. But when Young collapsed during his first scene due to alcohol withdrawal, a frantic Brooks called Wilder from a payphone near the set and begged him to drop everything. Thank heavens he did.

Young Frankenstein

Back with Brooks, and possibly his greatest comic role, Wilder was Dr. Frederick ‘Fronkensteen’, a physician desperate to shake off the murky reputation of his grandfather, Victor. That proves easier said than done, once he inherits the family estate. His rendition of ‘Puttin’ On The Ritz’ with his monstrous reanimation (played to the hilt by Peter Boyle) still has the power to reduce the viewer to a shuddering wreck. Magnificent.

Stir Crazy

Under the direction of the great Sydney Poitier, Wilder and Pryor’s on-screen chemistry was truly galvanised following their double act in ‘Silver Streak’. After being sacked from their jobs in New York, Harry and Skip are mistakenly thrown into jail after bank robbers steal the woodpecker outfits given them for an odd job in Arizona, their only option is escape. Thankfully, Wilder’s Skip rides a mean rodeo bull. It was a smash, the third highest-grossing movie of the year, behind ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘9 To 5’.
