the first holiday party of the season is always the most exciting. tonight i’ll be celebrating with my wonderful text100 colleagues in lower manhattan. while i typically lean towards all things shiny and sparkly for events like this, with shorter hair i’m leaning more towards things that really show off the cut. in this case, a festive-flavored shift dress. by the way, its selling at H&M right now for only $25! have a wonderful night and weekend! xoxo.
wearing: top: Forever 21. jacket: Zara (old). pants: H&M. booties: Zara. baubles: c/o Rebecca Minkoff double heart necklace,(get 20% off your own using code: RMJEWELRY2012), Forever 21, H&M, c/o Sorrelli. nails: Essie ‘size matters.’ lips: c/o NARS 'heat wave.’
i love metallics so much – gold, silver, rose gold… i mixed a bit of them all into today’s outfit and i love how fancy and downtown it looks by adding the jacket and booties.
unrelated.. well sort of related… tonight we’ll be having a mtv house of style twitter chat and you guys have to follow along! for as long as i’ve worked for mtv, this is the project closest to my heart – its fashion, music and entertainment all rolled into one! anyways, follow wsj’s @eholmeswsj and @mtvstyle (where karlie kloss and joan smalls will be answering questions live), beginning at 7pm tonight and using the hashtag #houseofstyle. more details here. xoxo.
Do you have any advice or know of any lip colors for fall that blondes can pull off? I have really light hair and i find i can not pull off the same colors as people with dark hair?
The only shades I’d say to steer away from would be any color that leans really purple. Purpley pinks, deep purples, deep plums, etc all tend to work a little better with darker hair.
I think wine, deep red shades look FABULOUS on blonde hair in the fall and winter!
Shades like Revlon Black Cherry, MAC Diva, Wet n Wild Cherry Bomb, NARS Pure Matte Lip Pencil in Volga.
Red orange lipstick also works great with blonde hair. The orange in the red makes it really festive for fall and the orange brightens up the red making it a little more soft and bright pairing well with lighter hair.
Shades like MAC Lady Danger, Revlon Fire and Ice, NARS Heat Wave.
Lastly, mauves and light shades of plums look great with blonde hair. Again, steer away from any plums or pinks that are more purple look for shades that are more pink and neutral/brown.
Shades like MAC Syrup, MAC Plumful, Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 08, Milani Plum Rose.
