oh my god people are seriously comparing this internet drama to the PMRC shit in the 80s?

i'm not goddamn tipper gore trying to censor metal to promote my right wing conservative values

i'm a fucking metalhead who's sick of metalheads promoting the same right wing conservative values as her while pretending to be subversive

i will defend heavy metal until my dying breath but thats because i believe metal is about cutting through the bullshit and exposing the truth, not about giving the majority another weapon to use against anyone different from them

Wait, people are getting offended by a genre of music that a huge portion is based around offending people? No way. Welp, it's a death metal kinda day today. 

Let me just go ahead and say this.

I love heavy metal music. It's been one of the greatest forces in my life. But the culture is fucking toxic. It really is a vile stewpot of the worst ideas. Misogyny, anti-LGBT rhetoric, and even outright racism is totally accepted and embraced in the community. And to say that being called out on that and asked to try to correct that is "censorship" and "sjw bullshit"? 

What a crock. 

It's like not trampling on someone in the pit. If someone falls down in the pit, you and the people around you are supposed to pick them up. Think of society as a pit. Women, LGBT folks, and persons of color have fallen down in the pit dominated by straight white cis men. Only instead of pausing, helping them up, and then returning to moshing, you're repeatedly trampling them and when someone yells at you for it, you try to stir the rest of the pit to attack the person who is trying to defend decency. 

If you're a metalhead and still on the side against social justice on this bullshit issue, and you think you suffer, then I quote Napalm Death:

we're gonna pretend like the metal community as a whole doesn't bow down to people like varg vikernes who is an actual literal neo-nazi  and that black metal isn't actually populated with white nationalists

people IN THE METAL COMMUNITY have been saying how racist/homophobic/transphobic metalhead weenies are for decades it didn't just start with some random ~~SJWs~~ running in trying to ruin everything

So we already have #GamerGate #MetalGate is sorta ongoing.... but SJW's kinda backed away after fearing the shitstorm from the MetalHeads Are we gonna have to start having a #ComicGate tag because of all the shit that's going down in the Comicbook industry?

For the Love of Metal

Apologies, but I have an overwhelming need to vent. It seems the worlds population of people with nothing better to do than take offense at things they don't understand and that don't affect them have turned their gaze on something which is very dear to my heart, namely metal music. I'm used to the usual rhetoric that gets thrown around about my favourite genre, and normally just blank it out, but the accusation being levied at it now is one of such egregious ignorance that it's set my blood boiling. Some pompous ultra-liberal fuckheads are calling metalheads like myself out for being non-inclusive. ARE. YOU. FUCKING. KIDDING? I don't expect people to be aware of this, but the metal community is, by and large, one of the most accepting, tolerant, and inclusive groups there is. What it is not, is accommodating to outsiders, and let me explain why. It is a counter culture that has formed around people drawn together by mutual love for a medium that provides a cathartic release to the anger and pain caused by living in a world that doesn't accept you, with people who pick apart everything you are because it doesn't fit their standards. And it is for that reason that nobody at a show cares what colour your skin is, or who you sleep with, or what god(s) you believe in, because we're all just pissed off and looking to cut loose. We dance together, we scream together, we sweat together, and if anyone falls we pick them up, and if any high-and-mighty so-left-it's-right assholes want to barge in and demand we all think and act like them so as not to hurt their precious feelings, we tell them to go fuck themselves, because people like them are the very reason the community exists.

It's such a shame Metalgate and Gamergate have to be a thing. If people could just say "I don't like this game. Better play a game that I do enjoy." or "I don't listen to this kind of music, but am fine with other people enjoying it." then I don't think there would be a problem.
