Mercury-Retrograde

Retrograde in Astrology

A retrograde in astrology is when a planet appears to be moving backwards. No planet really moves backwards, it’s simply an illusion in the sky from our point of view on Earth. When a planet does go retrograde, however, it’s energies are turned inward. This means that the energy of whichever planet that is going retrograde will be felt more personally and internally. People who were already born when a planet was in retrograde might feel the effects of the same planet going in retrograde less.

Mercury Retrograde
Mercury is the only planet that goes retrograde quite often. It is the most talked about planet when it does go retrograde and it’s no wonder, Mercury rules communication on a day-to-day basis. It is strongly felt.

Pros
Use this as a time to carefully reflect about your decisions. Think carefully is the motto with this planetary retrograde. Analyze certain areas in your life that you believe need work and get to working on ways to improve it. Take a breather and relax. Use this as a time to sit back and observe, do not act nor speak so impulsively.
Cons
You should expect past relationships to pop up, but do not try to start anything either. You may start to feel more argumentative and may notice that in other people as well. There can be a lot of traveling delays as well. Your electronics could malfunction during this time too, basically any form of communication.

Venus Retrograde
Venus goes retrograde about every 18 months. It is the planet of love, money and all kinds of relationships so it’s affects are really personal. These areas of our life that Venus rules are sensitive because they are so personal and can make or break you. Venus retrograde is wrathful and not pretty.

Pros
Use this as a time to reflect about how your finances are and especially your relationships with others. Not all that glitters is gold, and things can become ugly during this retrograde. So be careful, observe and think about where you stand at this point in your life with others and your own values as well. Step back and appreciate all that you have.
Cons
Do not make any dramatic purchases or changes during this time because they can be impulsive urges. Watch what you are eating too because you can have unhealthy cravings. Avoid starting any new relationships as well because there could be a high chance sparks will die off once Venus goes direct. Old relationships can pop up, friends may start acting shady or deceitful and you can start to feel unlike yourself as well.

Mars Retrograde
Mars goes retrograde about every 2 years. Since Mars is the planet of action, during a Mars retrograde we learn that our actions indeed do have consequences. Expect the energy to be drained when Mars goes retrograde and maybe bursts of anger as well.

Pros
Use this as a time to really think about your actions. If you want, you can find some time to relax and take a break from everything. Fight your impulses and take precaution.
Cons
Do not jump into things without thinking first. In other words: do not act on impulse. You might notice that people become accident prone during the retrograde and there can be a rise in accidents.

Important Fact
The Sun and the Moon do not go retrograde.

Retrogade Planets

People born with natal retrodgrade planets can spend more time in self reflection, ensuring that the qualities of the sign have been satisfied on a deeper, more spiritual way. Retrograde planets take a backward step and spend longer in the sign and house. As the Earth passes the planet in orbit it appears to go backward. From the point of view of the horoscope, it does move backwards. Psychologically, this means the planet is going to reverse direction and go back over area it has just crossed.

Mercury retrograde:

  • Is this information valid?
  • Do my thoughts match up with my inner values?
  • Is this the right occasion to share my thoughts?
  • Do I need to be alone to figure this out?
  • Do I need to gather more information?

Venus retrograde:

  • - Does this person reflect my value systems?
  • Did I react appropriately to the social situation?
  • Do my actions really reflect my morals?
  • Was how I acted fair?
  • Did I treat that person correctly?

Mars Retrograde:

  • - Was that the right outlet for my energy?
  • What am I really desiring?
  • Why was I/am I so self destructive?
  • Why is that fear holding me back?
  • Why did I feel the need to be defensive on that occasion?

Jupiter Retrograde:

  • - What are my spiritual desires?
  • How do I develop self control?/why do I deny myself pleasures?
  • What was the meaning behind that?
  • What is the universe trying to tell me?

MERCURY RETROGRADE

Intro:    Mercury is the ruler of communication, clear thinking, as well as travel.  During the retrograde cycle, things may start to get ugly in these areas.  This occurs approximately 3-4 times a year.

What to do:

  • Stay Calm.  Everyone goes through it and it effects everyone differently. Mercury is the ruling planet of Gemini and Virgo, and those with Gemini or Virgo placements may feel the difficulties of the retrograde more than others.
  • Try and go with the flow. Things are most likely not going to go your way since Mercury wants us to think backwards spiritually.  It wants us to re-evaluate our thinking and re-evaluate areas in our lives that may need some work.
  • Take extra precautions.
  • Be good to yourself!

What NOT to do:

  • Refrain from large purchases such as buying a house, car, electronic devices, etc.  Most likely, computers may crash, cars may break down more than usual and travel will be more difficult during this period as well.
  • Do not enter new relationships. This is a time of reflection and re-evaluation.  Exes are likely to appear! Do NOT go back to them either, because it is likely the spark will die out after the retrograde is over.
  • Avoid large contracts or entering into a commitment.  Many started projects remain unfinished during a Mercury retrograde.
  • Don’t start a job. Things are not what they seem to be during a Mercury retrograde period!
  • Avoid moving in with someone. People may not be “themselves” during a retrograde cycle, and once Mercury goes direct, this person may be a totally different person.

Other things you can expect:

  • Deceitful people; especially with Neptune in Pisces.
  • Sleep deprivation is likely.
  • Greater stress is likely.
  • Slower thought process
  • Travel delays or traffic
  • More arguments with friends/family
  • Unhappy/more angry people

Good Luck.

💫Oh boy! Who's ready for this Mercury and Saturn retrograde 💫

Saturn went into retrograde today (4/5) and Mercury is about to follow suit (4/9), wanna know what that means? Time to get our shit together! Like legit this is not a time to be lazy because Saturn will kick your ass for that, especially when Mercury goes back into Aries and those two fucks will have a fun time working together to force us to be on our A game.
Lucky us we get to experience this at the end of the semester when finals and projects are due but whatever. But some things to know:

- Relationships with fatherly/male figures have more potential to be adapted
- Saturn will likely stay in Sagittarius, our spiritual connections will be tested and our philosophies will be questioned, we may find new information on things we once knew were true.
- Because it’s in a less intense sign those with a well placed Saturn in their chart won’t feel this too hard but it will be annoying
- When Mercury enters Aries again prepare for a shit ton of things breaking
- Y'all can survive this 💙

Mercury rx

  • Intensity rating 10/10: Mercury in Gemini, Mercury in Virgo. Sun in Gemini. Sun in Virgo. Mars in Gemini. Mars in Virgo
  • The clever and the chaos becomes a flatline hum. cerebral valium, necessary but frustrating. For people so used to immediately ascertaining mental faculties, they can feel lost in life without the mind

  • Enlightening: Mercury in Sagittarius: Mercury is in detriment in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is a sign that resides in the higher mind, expanding details into generalizations. Mercury struggles in Sagittarius. But during retrograde the sun shines another torch in the mind, this could be beneficial for tunnelling from the higher mind (Jupiter) into the lower mind (Mercury) harvesting wisdom from both mind frames

  • Even Weirder Life: Mercury in Aquarius:  Uranus is the ruler of Aquarius and symbolizes the higher octave of Mercury. So Aquarius can definitely be impaired during Mercury rx, the electrical cords of Aquarius getting tangled in the darkness. Thoughts fizzling out. But the much needed recuperation occurs. They can gravitate toward the tin foil hat

  • Mercury in Pisces: what? what’s going on? Mercury what? I don’t feel anything???
On making retrogrades work for you

When a planet goes into a retrograde period its energy becomes somewhat distorted from its natural expression. Retrograde periods are times in which we have access to a different flavor of the planetary energy, and are able to grasp at it in different ways than normal. This of course means that all of the “normal” ways of utilizing this energy become more difficult, but we are offered a rare chance to delve into pieces of ourselves that are normally off limits.

To see the areas of life affected by this shift of energy you should look to your natal chart. Where in your chart does said planet rule? These houses, as well as the house in which the retrograde occurs are going to be focal points for the shift in planetary energy.

Let’s take a look at an example:

Mercury Retrograde:

In my natal chart, Mercury rules both the 12th(via Gemini) and 3rd(via Virgo) houses. When Mercury goes retrograde, I have much more desire to seclude myself from others, and focus on the internal, subconscious workings of my mind (12th house). In addition to this, I typically have a hard time reaching out to others and communicating with them. Like pretty much everyone I have the usual disruptions of communication and technology, but for me there is another layer of this. It becomes difficult to properly convey what’s going on in my mind, and I sometimes have to work very hard to word things correctly before I’m comfortable sending messages/responding to people. While this can be common for someone with say a natal retrograde of Mercury, my Mercury is well placed in both Libra and the 3rd House, meaning that typically I have little to no problems with this.

This time around Mercury is retrograding in my 6th House. This means that in addition to my usual issues with MercRx (H12/H3) I will be additionally affected in areas having to deal with this house. This means that communications with coworkers might break down or have issues. I may be forced to re-examine my daily routines and my attitudes toward my physical health and diet. These things will become a focal point for me and I’ll need to think about whether or not there are things in this area of my life that no longer serve me, and therefore should be let go.

So many people see retrograde periods as monstrous periods of time when everything seems to go wrong, but if you can identify where you’ll be affected you can better use the shifted energy to your advantage.

I know that when Mercury goes retrograde it will be a period of intense self-reflection, and a time in which I am forced to reconnect with myself because I am unable to connect with others. For this reason I take more time for myself than usual, and I don’t force myself to be social if I don’t feel like it. Mercury Retrograde in particular has become a fruitful time for me, as I’m able to reconnect with myself, reevaluate who I am as a person, and the goals that I’ve set for myself. I’m able to take time to intellectualize and examine old habits and skills (H3) and let go of things that are no longer serving me (H12).

Other retrogrades affect us similarly, but outer planets tend to have a much more subtle effect since their transits are longer and slower moving.
I encourage you to look to the houses ruled by retrograding planets and make retrogrades work for you, rather than constantly working against a retrograde.

Mercury in Shadow Intensifies

I knew something was getting bumpy just by the change in energy over the last week or so. Mercury has been moving in shadow since march 26th. over the next few days it’s going to feel like it’s peaking as shadow intensifies preparing to move retrograde on the 9th. Communication. Past issues. habits. behaviors. & all that fun transformational goodness will be coming up for clearing. We’re also entering Saturn Retrograde, karmic teacher. Plus we’re in venus retrograde highlighting the heart until the 15th. It’s like getting ready to rumble. Prepare for cleanse. Purge. Release. We’re about to enter a growth period yet again.

Retrogrades are an especially more subjective and delicate time. It’s always a time to look deeper within yourself in the subconscious to find the real truth and purpose behind what the planetary cycles are asking of you. Everything is a cycle and happens for a reason within the stars, planets and universe itself. It all comes back around again to repeat the same lessons for those that have not passed them the first time, and also for those that need to do another sweeping of their personal lives. The neptune retrograde that will last until November is going to lift the veil between our reality and the subconscious, we have to take a deeper look inside our subconscious self to see if we are being deceived or tricked by neptune. Everything is not what it seems is what the magic of neptune teaches us. We must grow to see past the sadistic side to neptune and use it to its highest, divine purpose. It is more useful to check your transits and where neptune is for you right now, that’s more likely where you’re going to need to investigate deeper to see the blinded beliefs you’re holding over yourself for the sake of bliss. Within our own subconscious is where the real answers lie, we just have to snap out of the hypnotism. There will also be another mercury retrograde occurring in August. The answers truly lie within us, we have to utilize our solitude and introspection periods to their most efficient use. Learn about yourself through yourself. Be comfortable being alone with yourself. Get in touch with your Higher Self.

anonymous asked:

what planets are in retrograde and how do they affect things?

Rite Now Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn are in Retrograde.  All planets in retrograde are moving backward in the sky and appear closer to the Earth in their orbit then any other time.  This effects makes the planets “soul traits” enter our conscious thinking for consideration.

Mercury retrograde is the most famous of all retrogrades and goes this way three times a year.  Since Mercury represents the mind, thinking, communication and everyday matters it’s retrograde period hits home very closely for everyone.  Mercury rules the local community and has a massive impact on everyday life.  Indecision is a big problem with retrograde; peoples minds tend to vacillate a lot more and solid choices are hard to come by.

Since things during retrograde are under consideration and review, any kind of contracts can be a problem…People may change minds, back out; look for ways out.  Lots of frustration.  Anything that involves communication is effected so it’s a hard period to take anyone for their word; ESPECIALLY when it comes to making deals which Mercury rules over.  E-mails, texts, blogs…all of this stuff is prone to issues…For example i closed a browser mid e-mail before it finished sending…only to find out it was saved as a draft and never sent.

Jupiter Retrograde makes personal considerations of the higher abstract thinking variety come to the international consciousness.  Peoples beliefs are challenged during this time.  Religious affiliations, morals, politics, military campaigns…these kinds of things tend to come during retrograde Jupiter.  On a personal level it’s usually about challenging one’s teachers…contemplating the value of information they have received and ideas assimilated.  It’s a period sometimes we go a bit backward personally to fill in our belief system puzzle. Sometimes things with the law even into question…binding contracts and ceremony..Like maybe someone will finalize a divorce at this time because Jupiter rules the marriage contract.

Saturn retrograde makes you mull over the direction your life is taking in the world.  It makes for looking closely at failures and shortcoming and inquiring personal responsibility for being where we want to be in life.  If you’ve been ignoring goals you set yourself, here is a time they are going to come into focus.  If it’s a karmic goal; well then it’s going to literally be forced somehow in someway. If it’s a personal ambitious goal then internally it will be on your mind a lot.
