Immature people falling in love destroy each other’s freedom, create a bondage, make a prison. Mature persons in love help each other to be free; they help each other to destroy all sorts of bondages. And when love flows with freedom there is beauty. When love flows with dependence there is ugliness.

A mature person does not fall in love, he or she rises in love. Only immature people fall; they stumble and fall down in love. Somehow they were managing and standing. Now they cannot manage and they cannot stand. They were always ready to fall on the ground and to creep. They don’t have the backbone, the spine; they don’t have the integrity to stand alone.

A mature person has the integrity to stand alone. And when a mature person gives love, he or she gives without any strings attached to it. When two mature persons are in love, one of the great paradoxes of life happens, one of the most beautiful phenomena: they are together and yet tremendously alone. They are together so much that they are almost one. Two mature persons in love help each other to become more free. There is no politics involved, no diplomacy, no effort to dominate. Only freedom and love.

The relationship between Aubrey and Maturin is the focal point of the film, with the unusually forward-thinking Maturin providing the audience with an outsider’s view of Navy life. As a scientist and a rationalist, Maturin is a kind of Spock figure to Aubrey’s Captain Kirk, since much of Aubrey’s skill as a captain comes down to instinct and experience. While the crew of the Surprise are somewhat ragtag and the officers are governed by the twin masters of 19th century fashion and the Naval uniform code, Maturin is very obviously a civilian – and very obviously unconcerned with Naval ideals of masculinity and Britishness. — The costumes of Master & Commander, Part 2.

Dark Tower Inspired Beam Guardian Scarf - Turtle and Bear - SOLD

Dimensions: A gloriously lengthy scarf measuring in at 66" long with a 5" fringe on either end (76" total) and 7" wide.

Now What?! I’ve already gotten started on the Lion and Eagle Beam scarf. I’ll make another Bear and Turtle immediately after I’m finished. My goal is to churn out a minimum of one scarf per week at least until the end of the year then I’m going to slow down. I want to do one of each Beam and I’ll do Turtle/Bears every other week. Keep your eyes peeled for updates on this 2014 scarf-making extravaganza!

A while ago, my boyfriend and I were heading back home at night from a party when a random hobo stopped us to ask for a cigarette.

My boyfriend only had tobacco and rolled it for the homeless guy.

He was really happy and said we were nice and I had a lovely smile then he gave me this. He said it was good luck… I don’t think he knew how much!

I asked the guy if its name was Maturin, he didn’t know haha
This encounter left me a weird, eerie feeling, was it the Ka?

That is very cool! Perhaps it was Ka, for your kindness!

“…I have had such a sickening of men in masses, and of causes, that I would not cross this room to reform parliament or prevent the union or to bring about the millennium. I speak only for myself, mind - it is my own truth alone - but man as part of a movement or a crowd is indifferent to me. He is inhuman. And I have nothing to do with nations, or nationalism. The only feelings I have - for what they are - are for men as individuals; my loyalties, such as they may be, are to private persons alone.”

I’ve received complaints on this photo and the way i tagged it. I’m aware that this photo and the concept of the turtle holding up worlds is a reference to Terry Pratchett’s Disc Worlds.

However most people know this is also a reference to Stephen King’s work The Dark Tower Series.

I should have added….

“See the Turtle of Enormous Girth
On his shell he holds the earth.
His thought is slow but always kind.
He holds us all within his mind.

On his back all vows are made,
He sees the truth but mayn’t aid.
He loves the land and loves the sea,
And even loves a child like me.”

‘No ceremony, Doctor, I beg,’ said the Admiral, smiling: the Leopard’s hundred pounds were practically in his pocket, and this man of theirs did not look very dangerous. 'Shall we begin?’
'By all means,’ said Stephen.
'You go down to the other end,’ murmured Jack, a chill coming over him in spite of the torrid sun.
'Should you like to be given a middle, sir?’ called the umpire, when Stephen had walked down the pitch.’
Thank you, sir,’ said Stephen, hitching at his waistband and gazing round the field, 'I already have one.’
A rapacious grin ran round the Cumberlands: they moved much closer in, crouching, their huge crablike hands spread wide. The Admiral held the ball to his nose for a long moment, fixing his adversary, and then delivered a lob that hummed as it flew. Stephen watched its course, danced out to take it as it touched the ground, checked its bounce, dribbled the ball towards the astonished coverpoint and running still he scooped it into the hollow of his hurly, raced on with twinkling steps to mid-off, there checked his run admist the stark silent amazement, flicked the ball into his hand, tossed it high, and with a screech drove it straight at Jack’s wicket, shattering the near stump and sending its upper half in a long, graceful trajectory that reached the ground just as the first of La Flèche’s guns, saluting the flag, echoed across the field.
