What would happen if Tegan and Sarah listened to more Interpol?

The result would probably be this shimmering ditty by Vic + Gab. Crazy Love is an intimate ballad made warm and haunting by fuzzy synths and jangly guitar.

The Gabriela sisters have done an impeccable job composing an instantly memorable song that burrows itself in your head, and never lets go.

If you want music to make out to, this song is a fine choice.

Makeout Music

I sort of miss mix tapes, but I don’t miss having to buy an entire album to get one song, or trying to tape a song off the radio, only to have the DJ talk over part of it.

Here’s my personal “mix tape” of makeout music:

  • “Kashmir”, Bond, Shine
  • In Your Eyes”, Peter Gabriel, So
  • “No Ordinary Love”, Sade, The Best of Sade
  • “Destiny”, Zero 7, Simple Things
  • “Slow Like Honey”, Fiona Apple, Tidal
  • “Wicked Game”, Chris Isaak, Best of Chris Isaak
  • “Fade Into You”, Mazzy Star, So Tonight That I Might See
  • “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over”, Jeff Buckley, Grace
  • “Come Away With Me”, Norah Jones, Come Away With Me
  • “Crash Into Me”, Dave Matthews Band, Crash
  • “Glory Box”, Portishead, Dummy
  • “Kiss You All Over”, Exile, The Best of Exile
  • “Feel It”, Jakalope, It Dreams
  • “Kiss From a Rose”, Seal, Seal: Best 1991-2004
  • “Hurry Make Love”, Alannah Myles, Alannah Myles
  • “Feel Like Makin’ Love”, Bad Company, 10 from 6
  • “Bad Things”, Jace Everett, Jace Everett
  • “Nothing Compares 2 U”, Sinead O'Connor, So Far… The Best of Sinead O'Connor
  • “Nights in White Satin”, The Moody Blues, The Best of the Moody Blues

The nice thing about an MP3 “mix tape” is the ease in which songs can be added, deleted, and rearranged. Try doing that on the old fashioned kind!

can you say sexy?! my oh my.

  • Listen

Architecture in Helsinki  - Need You Now (Cut Copy cover/remix?).

The original is still the jam, but this one DANGALANGALANG.

“E.T.” - Katy Perry (ft. Kanye West)

  • Tamu
  • Papa M
  • Whatever Mortal

In my own little world, Papa M remains king of that weird kind of esoteric, insular bedroom-music (or, as I’ve previously referred to it, “make-out music”) that I enjoy so much. I’ve posted much fancier, more interesting anecdotes related to Papa M (like this), but sometimes the music just speaks for itself. Enjoy.

Archive Mixes - “Friday Night in Mega City One”

From early this year, this is a quick 25 minute mix of stuff I loved playing at parties in 2012. From the original blurb - “A quick 25 minute blast of cinematic, aggressive dance and hip-hop, stuff that I’ve loved DJing in the last six months.

This is night out as action movie. This is a night out where the evil hipsters might actually be evil and the bloodsucking DJs might actually suck blood.”

All stuff you already know at this point, but possibly worth it for the bits of Dredd dialogue which are fun. Newly archived at SOUNDCLOUD and MIXCLOUD and for now, still up for download on MEDIAFIRE.
