Just had the pleasure of telling a dear family member of my social anxiety, only for it to be met with anger, defensiveness and ignorance.
After many tears, panic attacks, a 1am phone call with my best friend in the entire world, puffy eyes and a regretful drink, I am finally at peace.
I trusted someone I probably shouldn’t have. I thought they were ready, but they probably will never be. But you can never blame yourself for trusting others. Even if it’s misplaced.
If this has ever happened to you, I would love to hear your experiences. How you coped, whether you’ve learnt to avoid mental illness talk with certain individuals, whether cutting unsupportive people out of your life was beneficial etc.
