London Studio

Pixel Cloud da Martin Turner

Continuing my Open House London 2012 photos, this is Jason Bruges Studio’s ‘Pixel Cloud’, an art installation in the atrium of law firm Allen & Overy’s office building in Bishops Square. A 3d matrix of 624 polycarbonate globes which span eight storeys. Each 120mm globe is fitted with 24 LEDs and can be controlled independently allowing for light and colour changes. I managed to capture the colour change between yellow and cyan, the display is one of the most impressive things I have seen. The glass atrium reflects each globe, creating a a light galaxy. In a bid to include more of a human element into my architectural photography, you will spot Flickr buddy The Green Album at the bottom. Well I say bottom, but actually this walkway has a rather big drop either side. Have a great weekend!

For today’s Sunday Times Culture section, we asked the always lovely Pal Hansen to photograph the cast of Jamie Lloyd’s new production of Jean Genet’s play The Maids. First staged in Paris in 1947 it tells the story of tells the violent story of a pair of sisters who fantasise about killing their employer, inspired by the true case of the Papin sisters, who in 1933 hacked their employer and her daughter to bits. With a star cast made up of Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith for Downton), Zawe Ashton (Vlod from Fresh Meat) and Uzo Aduba (“the wonderful "Crazy Eyes” in Orange Is The New Black), it’s unsurprising that our colleague Adam, Culture’s Picture Editor, spent a lot more time than usual organising styling, grooming and prop meat cleavers for the shoot. You can read Louis Wise’s most excellent interview with the cast by clicking on the link in our profile. The Maids is at The Trafalgar Studios, London, from 20th February. #STStories #SundayTimes #SundayTimesCulture @pal_hansen @larrycarmichael @uzoaduba @jamielloydco @louisquinze @stylistmikeadler @terri_manduca_agency @afrankagency #TrafalgarStudios #TheMaids #JeanGenet #DowntonAbbey #OrangeIsTheNewBlack #OITNB #FreshMeat #Vlod #CrazyEyes

The Studio

This is my very own part of London measuring roughly 1x2 meters, in which I’ve managed to construct a massive desk and store all my books and materials.

I share my space with Tom, an assistant editor for film and advertising, whose normally in here late in the evenings, and Sophy, a fine artist, whose been coming in to work on here portfolio and write her application to do an MA.

The other spaces on my floor have some greatly talented Illustrators such as Vickoria Topping and Ellie Foreman-Peck who share a room. Then theres Peter Locke, Nicolas Burrows and Owen Gildersleeve in another room together. Then finaly there is Gloria the Columbian dress maker.
