Le Labo

Le Labo. Perfume makers Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi opened the doors to this quaint perfumery in 2006. It is situated on Elizabeth Street, which is one of my favorite NYC streets for browsing and shopping.  Each of Le Labo’s perfumes is centered on a main ingredient, such as Bergamot, Rose, Neroli, Jasmine etc.; once the final scent is developed, the perfumes are then named after their principal essence and the number of ingredients combined to make them. For example: Santal 33 indicates that the perfume is made up of 33 ingredients, with Santal being its principal essence.

The folks at Le Labo believe in creating fine fragrances that are cruelty-free (not tested on animals) and in using high quality materials sourced from Grasse, France. The fragrances are made-to-order in the store, by one of Le Labo’s knowledgeable chemists, and each bottle label is personalized with the compound location, chemist, date and bottle owner.  Le Labo’s interior is the perfect mix of sleek and rustic with interesting textures. Even if I am between bottles, I still frequently stop in to admire the interior and to smell the delicious scents.
