Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription service that costs $10. You take a beauty quiz when you first subscribe, and each month, you will receive 4-5 sample or full-sized products that match your quiz results, as well as a cute makeup pouch that corresponds to that month’s theme.
If you want to try it out, you can subscribe here!
This month’s theme is Fresh Start, and it’s my first Ipsy bag! How fitting. :)
The bag is sophisticated yet simple, ocean blue on one side and white on the other with a coral zipper and inner lining. It’s pretty sturdy, and it’s one of the cuter designs that Ipsy has come out with.
Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in Ethereal (full-sized $5) Ethereal is a shimmery nude color. The color doesn’t really show up on my lids, but the shimmer does. It could be a wonderful highlighter or blush-topper! Everyone got this product, and you could have either gotten it in the color I have or in Treasure, which is a metallic copper color. The packaging is cheap and squeaks when I close it.
Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Blush (full-sized $10) I love this brush! It’s flat and really soft, without being overly fluffy. I pulled at the bristles, and the brush doesn’t shed!
La Fresh Group Eco-Beauty Good Day. Day Moisturizer (sample-sized $12) This is an expensive moisturizer! Even the sample-sized one costs more than I paid for the Ipsy bag. I appreciate that it is natural, biodegradable, cruelty-free, and produced in California. The formula is thin, and my skin also likes how moisturizing it is. However, it does have a scent that I’m not too crazy about, kind of like old cucumber. This sample will last me quite a long time actually.
Velvet 59 Velvet Rose Lipgloss in Noisette (full-sized $18) Online in my Glam Room, it said that the lipgloss would be a sample-sized version, so I was pleasantly surprised when I received the full-sized one! The color looks like a dusty mauve, but it just looks like a gloss on my lips. The applicator is not a doe-foot applicator, but a lip brush, which I don’t mind. However, I’m not a fan of lipglosses, and this one is particularly sticky. The packaging feels luxurious.
Coastal Scents Liquid Eyeliner in Jet (full-sized $4) Honestly, I was pretty bummed when I saw this in my Glam Room. It looked cheap, and cost only $4. However, I looked up reviews, and everybody rated it 5 stars! The eyeliner is really black, and it draws really precise lines. It dries immediately, and it doesn’t smudge! The only improvement I can think of is to make the packaging prettier and to make a waterproof version!
Verdict I was initially wary of subscribing because many people claimed that Ipsy products weren’t worth the $10, but I was pleased with everything in this bag. The total value comes to $49, excluding the adorable makeup bag, which is worth the $10 I paid. I don’t think I will be repurchasing anything except the Coastal Scents eyeliner, but they are nice to try out and have in my makeup garden!
