Well, I guess I shouldn’t proclaim, “I’m back” like last time because look what happened, I didn’t fly after that for 2+ months.

However last night, I finally … FINALLY got to fly the dual night XC to San Antonio that I’ve been trying to get on the books since May or so. Spent the previous night going over my XC planning with an instructor I hadn’t previously worked with. He’s a retired F-14 RIO, Mooney owner, and an all around nice guy. My primary instructor was unable to do the actual flight so I ended flying with the instructor I did the flight planning with so it all sort of worked out.

Couldn’t have asked for better weather. Clear, smooth air. 15+kts right on the nose on the way there which resulted in some pretty awful groundspeeds, but we sailed back on the same winds.

The instructor said I did great considering I haven’t flown since August, and considering the nature of the flight (night, xc to an unfamiliar airport) I felt okay about it, too. There were just a few little things I did that I can correct, but I think those will fix themselves as I get back in the swing of things.

Also, thanks to the folks who sent me messages over the last month or so asking how my flight training was going. I’m humbled that I even crossed your mind, really. Thank you.

FBI Arrests Every Corrupt Politician In Texas City
When Joel Barajas showed up to work at the office last Friday, he was alone. That's because he was the only Crystal City council member who hadn't been arrested, facing felony charges.

The indictment netted the city’s mayor, mayor pro tempore, as well as a council member, and the city manager. Additionally, a former city council member was arrested, along with a businessman accused of bribing the officials, Ngoc Tri Nguyen. Another council member, Marco Rodriguez, was just arrested last month on charges of human smuggling.

Crystal City has about 7,500 people, and it is located 130 miles southwest of San Antonio. Barajashas been on the council for nine months, according to local KSAT.

“I knew some things were not being correctly taken care of,” he explained.

“Hondo, Texas -

Two people were arrested following a high speed chase Wednesday evening, but it was what appeared to be a third suspect in the back seat of a Department of Public Safety cruiser that caught our eye: a Stormtrooper.

The Star Wars character is a soldier for Darth Vader’s Evil Empire.

There’s no word from the state troopers as to what the Stormtrooper did besides the obvious - upsetting the Rebel Alliance.” - ksat.com

Silly KSAT

So, we have to do a project for English where we make a video to go with a poem/song (because we’re doing poems at the moment in English and song are kinda like poems put to music apparently). So what do I decide to do? I go, “Oh, I’m gonna be all awesome and stuff by making it a self drawn, fully coloured animation thing!” And how long is it going to take? Well, seeing as I don’t know how many pictures I need and I haven’t finished the first picture yet… a while.

And how long do I have?

…not long enough ;A;

Wish me luck!

KSAT 12 News Tonight Intro 1987 (via sptweb)

My family was a KSAT family from the moment I started watching local/national news – at age 4, when I started watching TV in general – to the time I was a high school senior.  As you can imagine, I have very vivid memories of this opening.  And of Deborah Daniels and Bob Salter.

Egret Trouble on Flickr.

My friends the egrets of San Antonio, have gotten themselves into a bit of trouble, to wit: http://www.ksat.com/content/pns/ksat/news/2014/06/05/rescue-group-cries-fowl-over-zoo-s-removal-of-egrets.html

They have messed up an exhibit at the San Antonio Zoo and the Zoo has remove them from their nests and handed them off to this organization in San Antonio–http://www.wildlife-rescue.org/, who try to take care of them and place them back in the wild.

But the zoo has in the past dumped about 200 egrets on them and could dump more if the egrets try to build nests in the same area.

Now, I don’t typically ask anyone to donate anything here, but I am making an exception today. If you can make a small donation to these folks–you can do it here http://www.wildlife-rescue.org/support/donate/ you might be saving the lives of a few of Algy’s cousins.

This is a lot to ask, and if you don’t feel comfortable doing it, don’t.

Everyone wants to talk about the mess the birds make, but no one seems to recall how beautiful they are:

If you feel comfortable doing so, please reblog.
