ICON 2012

I wish I wrote a little blurb about each day, but I was having way too much fun and I was too tired late at night to write anything at all.  Basically in a nutshell, I had a wonderful week surrounded with some of the most amazing people ever.  I got to spend a day at Islands of Adventure and more importantly, Harry Potter World, with a large group of people and the next day, hit the front of the line of each ride at Epcot.  The rides were fun for both parks, and the countries were interesting at Epcot.  I enjoyed taking pictures in all the water fountains meheh.  Then starts the beginning of International Convention itself, where we play endless ‘Ride that Pony’ games at the Meet and Greet, and listen in at the Opening Session.  I attended workshops and learned more about the Eliminate Project, and collected donations in exchange for I love Key Club lanyards.  I am a boss saleswoman pahaha.  Running into walls and reading Love Notes was interesting.  Early morning swims, especially in Eastern time was delightful haha and I had many needed late night deep talks with my roomies.  The dance was not ratchet enough for Californians obviously, but it was the best I made of it.  I still need to work on saying no.  I don’t know why, but I love dressing in Business Professional- it makes me feel really classy and I like seeing everyone all dressed up and snazzy looking.  The entertainment and speeches were amazing and inspiring.  I can’t wait to better serve Division 44 North and share the information that I have taken in.  There were a few points during the week where I felt extremely blah but they quickly passed and were overcome with greater happiness.  There were so many moments where I was giddy with happiness and super smiley.  Actually, I was super smiley on the inside the whole week.  I’m really grateful for the people I got to spend my week with.  Thank you Kristine, Brian, Warren, Jennifer, Wilbur, Kevin, Dia, Marion, Ashley, Marisa, Pauline, Peter, Nick, Kyle, and everyone else in CNH as well as all the attendees that I met at ICON.  I feel like I got closer to many, and definitely made everlasting memories.  I was reunited with friends and saw people who I thought I would never see again.  I had a week with no regrets, and only wish I got to take more pictures.  I miss everyone so much.  Take me back!

Okay. So there are no words to describe what happened in these pictures. I love you Alyssa Yocom (@sunshinee094)! I’m so glad we became great friends that fangirl/boy over each other :) Thank you so much for making my last ICON as a key clubber very enjoyable. I’ll miss you! Good luck with the district and with whatever comes your way! <3

ICON CNH Day 1+2

Day 1
I did an all-nighter to get to the airport on time to leave to Phoenix. We had a connecting flight to Phoenix, AZ. Memories of ICON 11 came back. Good times. The flight to Orlando was a long one. I had the middle seat which was so uncomfortable. Had to rest my head on the seat in front of me. Came out so sore. When we got off we took a shuttle to the baggage claim. It took atleast half an hour for the luggage to come. We then took a bus to the Hotel. We checked in the hospitality suite for our packs. Got my room key then went out to Downtown Disney and got dinner. Came back to find Jarren, Aldrin, and Chor as my room mates. Pretty great roommates. We had a district meeting in the hospitality suite. We fit so many people into that small room. We spent the rest of the night trying to find a way to watch the Devil inside on the tc in our rooom but we failed.

Day 2
I think this day was so slow. I felt like it’s been a week here already. We went to Universal Studios! I hung out with Brian, Marion, Kyle, Warren, Kristine, Dia, Jennifer, and Angie. I bought myself a 34 dollar stick at Harry Potter world. You know what I wasted money on a branch i could find outside my house but it was worth it. We watched Avengers for the first time. Watching movies with Angie and Dia was entertaining. They were being loud around the whole time. We movie hopped to Magic Mike. We saw like 5 minutes of the movie and understood everything. Best quote from the movie “What are we going to do for the next 7 hours.” Kay onto the next day. We’re heading off to Epcot.

I’ll upload pictures once I upload them to my computer

key club international convention | pre-icon 2012 | #1

For the next week I will document my thoughts and experiences leading up to, during, and regarding the aftermath of the 2012 Key Club International Convention in Orlando, Florida as a part of the ICON Social Media Team.

Since American Airlines doesn’t receive checked baggage for free and charges $25 one way and another $25 back, I have successfully stuffed a week’s worth of clothes for ICON, including a suit, multiple dress shirts of various colors, a couple of Key Club casual shirts, my district polos, and plenty of socks and underwear, into a carry-on suitcase whose dimensions total 45 inches (22in length x 14in width x 9in height). I’m allowed one more personal item, a backpack, which I will stuff with plenty of snacks for the trip and for random bonding sessions throughout downtime at ICON.

I’ll be meeting with with my group flying from LAX tomorrow morning at 5:30AM; tonight I prepare myself for an all-nighter at my Key Club advisor, Mrs. Wright’s house until 3:30AM when we delve into the sea of traffic on Southern California’s most notorious freeways.

As of now, the excitement of going to Orlando and experiencing my third International Convention hasn’t really hit me yet. I still feel like I’m missing something that I should be bringing for the week. I still feel like this week will be like any other normal week, and I’m still waiting for that surge of energy that’ll spark the beginning of my next adventure.

Check out this awesome KEY CLUB cover of Cups from Pitch Perfect! Key Club people are too amazing :)

Day 2 of Key Club International Convention

So the day started off with opening session followed by caucusing! I never really realized how big the session room was. It was a amazing to once again see how great and diverse Key Club is. Meeting different people that I’ve never met before is always my favorite thing about ICON. Because each person, especially, candidates have different reasons why they joined Key Club and what change they want to instill upon in this organization. After a inspirational opening session, each district went to their assigned rooms as 20+ candidates presented their speeches and answered questions. Now it’s up to US, the members to decide our future leaders.

More to come soon. Happy conventioning!

And thus begins the

30 Days to go!

See you in Washington, DC July 3-7! Dances, forums, caucusing, Key Note speakers, fundraising for Eliminate…must be Key Club!
