I worked out with Karlie Kloss, this is what I learned

Other than KK has legs as long as my entire body…

It’s no secret that Karlie Kloss likes to workout – she location tags boutique fitness studios like the WH team and drinks cold brew (a lot). But, she’s also blessed with model genes, which had me wondering: Is she as kick ass IRL as her Instagram snaps suggest? This morning at the preview of adidas for Stella McCartney I found out

1.  FIRST THINGS FIRST, SHE’S FINDS 7AM EXERCISING TOUGH TOO.

‘I always say the hardest part about working out first thing is waking up,’ she admits.

2. SHE’S BIG ON SWEAT SQUADS

If you struggle to muster up motivation to push yourself out of your comfort zone, you’re not alone.

‘It’s great to workout together,’ she told us. ‘Especially when it’s high intensity and you need to keep going.’

She followed this up with cheerleader style motivation during the workout. Yes, we imagine this is how it feels to be Taylor Swift.

3. SHE’S NOT BIG ON GIVING UP

This morning’s workout – HIIT at Another Space, London – fuses fight-style bag work with bodyweight floor moves. Suffice to say, it’s anything but easy.

So, when given the option of switching the final 3 minutes of metabolism-boosting moves for a gentle stretch, you’d be forgiven for choosing the latter. But not on Karlie’s watch.

Instructor: “Would you prefer to cool things down for the last 3-mintes? Or finish the power moves?”
Karlie: “Power moves.”

4. SHE DOESN’T LET AN EGO RULE HER EXERCISE

Okay, so I know I’m not the first one who’s felt a tad awkward about dropping to my knees during pushups (having one of the fittest job titles in the UK will do that). Not today.

During the floor section Karlie confidently assumed the modified pushup position and subsequently looked strong for the full 60-seconds. Others, who tried to do the full version, nose-dived and quit 15-seconds in. Note to self: Don’t feel bad about modifying to nail form.

5. SHE’S GOT A GREAT RIGHT HOOK

Let’s preface this with: It’s easy to throw a fake punch for pictures, but doing the same repeatedly on a bag isn’t so.

That said, Karlie’s boxing Instagrams are no illusion. Throughout the class she demoed her fighter status – as well as her willingness to take home a few bag bruises– with hundreds of hooks, jabs and elbow strikes. Ka-pow.

6. SHE’S GUNNING FOR ABS TOO

Despite being all legs and arms, what Karlie’s currently after is abs.

‘I’ve been staring at your abs,’ she told me. ‘What do you do? I’m working on mine.’

You see, nothing really tests your relationship with your body than being scantily clad – today’s dress code was crops and leggings – in a room full of London’s “fittest” women. And refreshingly, Karlie is just like the rest of us: working towards her goal, one workout at a time. (x)
