Private jets, two maids and a personal chef: The pampered life of Karl Lagerfeld’s pet cat
She is a pampered princess who travels the globe in a private jet, flanked by her loyal bodyguard and two maids who tend to her every need. Her sapphire-blue eyes have inspired a Chanel haute couture collection, and she is a Twitter queen with over 40,000 followers. But then, it’s no wonder life is fabulous when you’re legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved cat.
A new book, Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat, lifts a veil on the glamorous lifestyle of the couture kitty, with chapters on her diet, beauty, healthcare, and fashion tips. Written by Patrick Mauriès and Jean-Christophe Napias, the book features photographs taken by Lagerfeld himself, as well as Choupette’s bodyguard and maid. Here CNN shares a selection of images of the pampered puss along with a peek into Choupette’s refined lifestyle as detailed in the new book.
Karl Lagerfeld’s Cat Made $4.25 Million USD Last Year
She already lives a life of luxury complete with the full time service of two maids, and is raking in millions a year thanks to lucrative modelling contracts. No, we’re not talking about the next famous Hollywood “It” Girl; we’re talking about a cat. Choupette, who is owned by Chanel and Fendi creative director Karl Lagerfeld, is said to have had a monstrously successful 2014, with her owner divulging she made $4.25 million last year thanks to jobs with Japanese beauty brand Shu Uemura and the 2015 Corsa Calendar. One ad you won’t see her in any time soon though? Anything food related, as Lagerfeld says she is “too sophisticated for that.” If you want to follow Choupette’s travels, you can check out her Instagram account.

Karl Lagerfeld about Choupette
“I don’t allow her to do foodstuffs and things like this. She’s too sophisticated for that."
‘She doesn’t like to eat on the floor, so I have to put the food on the table. Her dishes are by Goyard. She has one for water, one for her little croquette, and one for her pate.’
'The doctor does her manicure. She hates when we do it ourselves. The only time she makes a scandal is then. [But] everything is done with the eyes. She knows exactly what she wants.’
'She loves to destroy paper, that is what she loves to do the most and also driving her beloved maids crazy. With me she is sweet and calm.
It’s a miracle in the story. Choupette was not even given to me. Choupette belonged to a friend of mine who asked if my maid could take care of her for two weeks when he was away. When he came back, he was told that Choupette would not return to him.’
There is something unforgettable about her, the way she moves, the way she plays. She’s an inspiration for elegance. For attitude.’
