Kansas-Hill

Stuff you can think about while continuing to ignore JK’s racist and pathetically misguided attempts at approximating American wizard history:

  • magic schools in old, one room schoolhouses enchanted to have a dozen rooms for a hundred students at a time
  • magic schools under the Appalachians disguised as old, abandoned coal mines
  • magic schools disguised as abandoned railroad towns (there are a LOT more of those than you think. Seriously, look up West Virginia ghost towns sometime)
  • magic schools under the Kansas hills, built like sod houses to resemble the old faerie mounds
  • historically black magic schools
  • each Native American nation having its own school of magic, making sure their own traditions won’t die out and be forcibly replaced with European ones
  • Chesapeake Bay Academy, the magic school for the DMV (DC, Maryland, and northern Virginia) being sister schools with Mahoutokoro
  • magical schools mascots like hidebehinds, cactus cats, and teakettlers (because lumberjack folklore is weird and adorbs and makes perfect magical creatures)
11x23 Alpha and Omega

THE BAD:

  • That is the most Canadian looking English house I’ve ever seen and Kansas doesn’t have hills near Lebanon … js
  • Ghost hunting in the sanitarium could’ve been its own episode
    • @writtendark and I were talking about this, and I think they could’ve structured the end of the season with the getting the band back together in 11x22 taking place earlier (like ep 19 or 20 of the season) and then have a couple of episodes of building the soul bomb
    • I hope that Dabb takes the show in a little bit of a different direction by having the major plots carry through every episode instead of just a short mention in MOTW eps. But we’ll just have to wait and see.

THE GOOD:

  • Dean is so concerned AND SO TOUCHY!! so many touches
  • Aquarian star! Lady of letters! eeeeeee!
  • Rowena flirts with everyone I love it
  • Something is being set up with parents and kids and I don’t have words for it right now, but I think that’s interesting

SCORE: A+++++++

Other thoughts: This is really a Dean episode. He gets all the character and plot beats. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come.

But if this is a sign of things to come, I’M SUPER EXCITED BECAUSE THIS EPISODE IS JUST TERRIFIC. TERRIFIC. After years of writing meta, I feel like finally all the things I wanted/needed to happen DID happen. FINALLY some culmination of these things that have been going on for ages and we’re looking ahead again. CONSEQUENCES!! MARY FUCKING WINCHESTER!!! ahhhhhhhhhhh

ALASKA HENDERSON.
college sophomore; nineteen.
willa holland.
CLOSED FOR AUDITIONS. and, as kansas hill once said: “Hannah, in order to get real answers from the Netherworld, you’ve gotta have a Christian virgin run the board. Your kind is pure of heart — the devil won’t dick with you.“

BEFORE FREDDIE’S PARTY;

Alaska Henderson did not have the best start in life. She wasn’t born into a wealthy family with a name and she didn’t have her birth announcement in some world renowned Newspaper. If you hadn’t of already guessed, she was born in Alaska. Originality was the furthest thing from her mothers mind. After being in labor for more than thirty-two hours, Alaska’s mother found her dead beat father in bed with a nurse. Needless to say that within the week, her father had been buried, her mother put behind bars and she was off to live in Illinois with her grandmother. Rosewood, Illinois, to be exact.

Her grandmother worked for the Watson family, Dorian, Margo and Dana. That’s how Alaska and Dana became best friends at such a young age. The two were like Yin and Yang. Dana was the confident, sunny and self assured co captain of the cheerleading squad while Alaska was the attitudinal, dark and badass best friend who was guilted into trying out and joining the team. Alaska has her own style consisting of Doc Martins, ripped jeans and tee shirts that mix quite well with her personality. She’s known for not giving a fuck and doing whatever she wants. Acquaintances with the likes of Bender and Frances, the Headmaster knows her by her full name, from calling her down to the his office at least four times a day. She’s been in trouble for smoking on campus to cutting off the hair of a rival cheerleader. Yes, she’s at Rosewood on scholarship. Despite the persona she projects, she’s actually quite the little genius. She’s been asked to join the math club multiple times, not that she’d ever do that.

She’d do anything for her friends, Dana especially, and Dana knows this. When Dana asked her to help steal test scores, Alaska was already making plans on how to do it right. But someone else saw them and now they’re being blackmailed. This, was not what she signed up for. All Alaska really wants is to make it through high school, to have a good time and to catch the attention of Two-Bit. So why is that such a hard concept to follow?

DURING FREDDIE’S PARTY;

Alaska bent down so she was eye level with the door knob, her picking tools in hand. She was actually starting to sweat in her black jeans, black boots and you guessed it, black sweater. She wanted to feel extra incognito and demanded everyone where black. If there was one thing she knew, it was how to be a criminal. Her mother was one after all. But in reality, Alaska did not know how to be one and knew she’d probably die one day in jail. Which is why what she was doing kind of didn’t make sense. Actually nothing really made sense.

As soon as Dana told her the dilemma she’d gotten herself into, Alaska immediately went into action, wanting it to go smoothly. She figured that if they got caught, it’d be yet another infraction added to her ever-growing list. She figured the school couldn’t get rid of her because it’d mess up the cute little image for scholarship students it had and her grades were impeccable, when she decided not to get kicked out of class.

She could hear the rest of her best friends arriving, each quicker than the last. The door clicked and she stood up slowly, running her fingers through her hair. They were in, and this was happening. Making the girls walk single file along the row of lockers, her stomach dipped a little when the went past Two-Bits’. She smiled slightly but let it drop before anyone could see it. This was not the time for teeny bopper feelings to surface.

Walking easily into the main office, she took out her camera as the other girls went to where they were suppose to be. Fawn and Dana quickly found the red file as Carson and Halston watched the door and Luna held a cloth over the CCTV camera. She took pictures of the spread sheets, trying to hurry before the party ended.

Alaska took the last picture and they began to walk out when a sneeze was let out. They all turned towards the corner of the room where it came from. Pushing Luna towards the noise, Alaska watched her intently in the dark, moonlight being the only light. Luna hesitated for a second, feeling around, but then popped back up and gave the all clear.

For some reason, Luna’s movements seemed not quite right, so Alaska made her way over there to check for herself. But before she could turn the corner on the desk, a fire erupted in the distance and firetrucks and law enforcements were everywhere. She quickly turned around and they all rushed out of the building, careful not to get caught by the policemen swarming the campus. She took a deep breath and looked around at the fire. On the bright side, at least they got away with it.
