Rights activist Edward C. Lawson and playwright/actor John Fleck appear on Oprah in 1990 to discuss free speech, flag burning, publicly-funded art, and more.

He was one of the “NEA Four” whose National Endowment for the Arts grants for performance art were vetoed on the basis of subject matter (after having been approved by a peer panel process), leading to charges of censorship and a Supreme Court case which ultimately found in their favor.
