It Hurts

Warnings: angst?

A/N: I was thinking of making this a two part. Should I make a part two and have it a fight/make up/ smut? Let me know! If so, I’ll post part two ASAP! :D

“Don’t go near ________ with that, she hates spiders.”

A slow, sneaky grin spreads across Justin’s face. Your brother Alex warns him again, but it does no good. Justin takes a step forward and you take one back, arms up in mock surrender. Being deathly afraid of spiders your whole life, you didn’t want anything to do with them. Justin is holding a huge, hairy spider in his hand and the look he’s giving you is unsettling.

“Justin,” you squeak. “You better not!”

JEFF X READER

“Seriously, Jeff, you don’t have to keep driving me to school,” you chuckle. “I’m plenty capable of doing things on my own still.”

Shaking his head in refusal, Jeff parks in the student parking lot of the high school before turning towards you. "If it wasn’t for me goading you, you wouldn’t have been playing flag football with us, Y/N. I sometimes forget just how rowdy those idiots can get.”

“It’s not your fault.”

“It kind of is.”

Life is great when you know you have at least one loyal best friend. It’s better than having 10 okay friends. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to have entered my life and that was my best friend, Jeff Atkins.

We in actual fact met because of our parents since we’re both neighbours and was new to the neighbourhood at the time, Jeff’s parents had invited us over to his house for dinner. I was shy to speak to someone who was as handsome as Jeff, I wasn’t one to speak to boys in a hurry and where I came from was an all girls school. Knowing that I’m going to the same school as him also had given me the chills, who knows what’s in stored for me. Though that night Jeff had gotten me to show my bubbly and loud side - we had a lot in common.

Jeff introduced me to his friends which I was glad they were all easy to make conversations with but I didn’t believe they were being genuine about who they say they were.

Through time, I started to have feelings for Jeff as more than a friend. This really did scare me because I didn’t want to lose the friendship we had. Worst case scenario is me telling him that I love him and have been in love with him since the start, all he would say is nothing and probably laugh at me like everyone else.

I thought to myself that I should set my feelings for him aside and just worry about our friendship. Problem is that he has a girlfriend named Jazmin for a while now. He seems to be head over heels for her and well I can’t change that. She was the new girl at our school, Jeff couldn’t stop talking about her and since Clay was her buddy, it was a bonus for Jeff so he had an excuse to talk to her. They’ve been dating for a good 6 months.

Later today our whole school was invited to Jess’ house party. As much as I didn’t want to go Jeff insisted that I come with and of course Jazmin was going to tag along. No hate to her, she’s really sweet and pretty - everything that I’m not - we both had become acquaintances.

It was currently 3pm and the party was at 6pm. I was busy studying and decided on getting ready at 5 since Jess’ house is literally 5 minutes away from mine. As I was just about to get back to studying my notifications went off, it was a message from Hannah asking if I was going. I replied back saying yes and hoped to see her there. I left my phone aside and was finishing off my summaries. My phone was ringing this time, I groaned in annoyance, we’re all going to see each other later today anyway so I don’t see what’s the need for the messages and phone calls.

It was a call from Jeff. “Hello” I answered plainly. “Sup bestie” Jeff enthused. “Busy studying well was until you interrupted me. How about you ?” I asked. “Oh my bad Miss. Y/L/N looks like the next time I shouldn’t bother to phone you at all” he said sarcastically. “That’s fine by me” I giggled. “Anyways I just wanted to know if you need a ride ? I’m just on my way to fetch Jazmin and thought I can pop by to pick you up” he said. “Nah it’s okay, thanks for the offer, though I’ll walk” I said. “Are you kidding me ? Do you know how dangerous it is for you to walk alone at night ? I’m coming to pick you up. No buts. See you in a bit” he said lastly and ended this call. Gosh this boy.

I left my work as it was on my study table and started looking through my closet for an outfit. I finally picked out a cropped black lace off the shoulder top with denim short shorts paired with adidas original superstars. I left my hair as its natural wavy state with subtle make up on. I sprayed on some perfume, grabbed my phone and decided to sit on my front porch whilst I waited. 2 minutes later Jeff parks in front, I jumped in the back “Hey” I smiled. “Heya” they replied back. “I love your outfit” she said as she looked at me through the rear mirror. “Aww thanks, I love yours too” I said and turned to look at her in the passenger seat. I felt Jeff look at me through the rear mirror but he didn’t say anything.

We got to the party and as soon as we got there we 3 had dispersed. Well, I was on my own and I’m sure they’re somewhere here together. I walked into Jess’ house and taking in my surroundings, as close as Jess and I may stay we aren’t the bestest of friends though we’re good enough acquaintances.

I spotted Clay and Hannah talking by the couch. “Aww well if it ain’t my favourite people” I cooed. They’re so cute honestly get married already. “Oh hey Y/N it’s good to see you here other than worrying about your books” Clay said and pulled me in for a hug. “Look who’s talking, this isn’t my first party Jensen. I’m the one shocked to see you here that goes for you too Han” I said. “I thought I should try something different” Clay said. “Same here” Hannah added. “I can tell you both did, loving the hair by the way Hannah" I said lastly and faded off into the kitchen.

All I need right now was a drink though I’m not talking about alcohol. Alcohol is not always the option when you’re sad. I poured myself a cup of Coca Cola and walked back to where Clay, and Hannah was. “You guys want a drink ?” I asked. “Nah we’re good” Hannah smiled and shook the cup in her hand. I thought I might as well sit next to them on the couch but then Jess and Justin beat me to it. They were both clearly pissed drunk but it was more evident on Jess. “Hey Y/N” she waved. “Hii” I waved back at them. She then moved her attention to the suck and blow game happening in front of them. “Hey ! We want to play too” Jess whined. I took a quick look at all the participants and surprise surprise, Jeff and Jazmin were playing too. Can I even stand to watch this ?

The card started from Zach to Sheri, to Monty to another blonde, to Jeff. I don’t even know his this boy couldn’t hold onto that card for a few seconds longer. It fell from his lips and he was quick to connect his with Jazmin. “Excuse me” I told Clay and Hannah. They know. I walked out to the front yard and sat on the staircase, I tried not to cry from the pain but I was weak. A tear dropped onto my thigh, I quickly wiped away my tears in hopes that no one sees me crying - I don’t want to cause a scene - their was a hand placed on my shoulder. I looked back to the person and it was Zach. “Hey are you okay ?”

Holy hell, guys! I’m seriously blown away by the fact you actually enjoyed my first ‘Imagine’. Seeing as some of you liked it, I think i just might continue writing whatever ideas pop into my head ;)

Jeff X Reader pt.II

Your knee bounces nervously as you wait for Jeff to pick you up and your mother watches you with a small knowing smile. "So who is this boy? Do I know him?“

You try hard to not roll your eyes. "Yes, mom. It’s Jeff,” you deadpan, but try with all your might to slow your beating heart. “Jeff from the eighth grade who I had a terrible crush on.”

A sharp, sudden inhale of breath has you looking towards your wide-eyed mother. When you were little, you used to tell her everything, but puberty changed things and you two didn’t quite talk as much. “Jeff.. Atkins!” She nearly squeals. “When- how?!”

“The other day,” you sigh and meet her gaze head on. “Tony and Clay were poking fun at me for turning down all the jocks asking me on a date, so I made it into a little challenge.”

Mom smirks as she takes a seat next to you, eager to hear more. “Go on.”

You saw Jeff waiting by your locker at the end of the day.

“Finally” he said with a smile.

“Aw, poor Atkins. He thought I wasn’t coming” you mocked. Jeff laughed. Oh, God, that laugh…

“Actually, yes. I was afraid you could change your mind about this” you smiled, he was so cute.

“Of course no. I’m ready, are we walking to Monet’s or…?”

“My car. Follow me to the parking lot, princess” he said with a funny voice, making you laugh.

The journey to Monet’s was really nice. You discovered that he was a huge fan of Oasis, just like you and you learned that his favourite song was ‘Don’t look back in anger’. Then you two had a playful argument because he said Liam was better than Noel.

“C’mon, Jeff. Noel is the one who wrote most of the songs. He is a lyrical  genius” you said while exiting the car.

“Princess, I really like you but Liam Gallagher is God to me, so you have to stop or you are gonna break my heart” he said, opening the door for you.

“Oh, who knew that Jeff Atkins could be a gentleman? But if you think it’ll help, stop trying. Noel is the best one” Jeff let out a loud laugh.

“You are gonna be the death of me, Y/N”

You two found a place to sit in the corner. Monet’s was full of people from the school and you really didn’t want rumours about you and Jeff dating to spread. The corner was perfect.

“I’m gonna order. What do you want, princess?” he asked.

“Coffee and cake for me please” You said with a sweet smile. He smiled back at you and went to order. You were feeling relaxed in the car but now you were starting to feel nervous. Really fucking nervous.

You’re in a date with Jeff Atkins. Jeff, your crush since you were around ten years old. You never thought you’d ever have a chance with him but here you were. C’mon Y/N, do not screw this up.

“What are you daydreaming about? Don’t tell me you’re already fantasising about me naked, Y/L/N?” you were so lost in your own thoughts that you didn’t sae him come back from the till.

“Stop dreaming, Atkins”

“You always say that. What do have against dreams, huh?” he joked.

“Actually, I’m always dreaming. My mum says I should be more realistic” you explained. You were always daydreaming, most of the time about Jeff.

“Reality is overvalued” he said. You agreed.

“What’s your dream? he took a long breathe.

“I want to be a professional baseball player. But I don’t know if I’m good enough”

“Dude, you’re awesome at baseball” you said “I’ve seen you play. You should apply to Vanderbilt. They have the best baseball program in the country”

“How do you know so much about Vanderbilt?” he looked impressed.

“My dad loves baseball. We watch it together so I know a lot about it” you winked at him.

“Can we get married already?”  you laughed.

The afternoon had passed quickly between jokes and laughs. You learned a lot about Jeff, he was really nice and he cared so much about his family and friends.

As the clock struck 7, you both knew that it was time to go home. Jeff parked outside your house but you didn’t move from your seat.

“So… I had a good time” “I lied” you both spoke at the same time. You looked at him confused

“When I told you that I only have one dream. I lied, I have two”

“Oh, okay. Well,  what’s your other dream?”

“ To kiss you”

“Dreams should come true, don’t you think?” you smiled, getting closer to him. Jeff didn’t hesitate to lean it.

Kissing Jeff made you feel a mix of emotions. You felt something explode inside you, and its better than anything you could have ever imagine.

“God” he says as you two broke away “you are amazing”

“I know” you tried to play it cool but your hands were shaking and as soon as he noticed it, he took your hands into his and smiled.

“So.. what do you think about a second date, princess?”

“I say yes to that. And yes to the third and the fourth and…” he interrumped you with another kiss.

Oh, man. That boy was going to be the end of you.

Birthday Balloons part 2 // Jeff Atkins

A/N: Honestly, I like it but I don’t love it, I’ll probably keep editing even after I post

Named After: Blues. Balloons. Same thing.

Read Part 1 “Birthday Blues”

“Four minutes early!” Jeff shouts racing into your room. “Guess you can’t break up with me now”

The look on your face makes him laugh and he bites his lip as he walks over to where you’re sitting on your bed. He tilts his head as he opens his hand for you to take.

“C’mon, it’s going to be the best belated birthday you’ve ever had”

You roll your eyes as you take his hand. You look at him briefly as you pull him out of your room, “That’s not funny”. The smile on your face tells him otherwise and he pecks your cheek.

Jeff jogged over to the driver’s seat reaching over you and into the glove compartment after closing his door.

“Here, put this on”, he said handing you a black eye mask.

You looked at your boyfriend’s smiling face, to the mask in his hand, and then back to him as he rolled his eyes.

“Just put it on”

You huffed, taking it from him and putting it on. The sound of his engine revved and for a moment it was just you and Jeff in silence.

“I know how much you like mix tapes, but I don’t know how to download songs onto a cassette and couldn’t find Tony- at least not in an hour, so I just made you this playlist instead.”

You smiled at the intent, and hummed along to the soft singing coming from the - radio, Southern Belle by Sir the Baptist accompanied you in the darkness and you left your hand open for Jeff to take.

Jeff smiled, internally counting it as his first win of the day as he intertwined your fingers.

A few songs later and you felt the car roll to a stop.

“Alright take off your mask”

You followed his instructions, opening your eyes to see you were outside of the town nail salon.

“…I’d paint your nails myself but I figured you’d want them to look nice. So yeah we’re starting with you getting your nails done.” He said, biting his lip hoping you’d be excited.

Jeff knew you, you didn’t do your nails often. Normally, it was because you played sports too and it was during your season, or you were helping him during his season when the boys were busy. Hannah had recommended the idea to him, something about being pampered.

You opened your mouth to protest and Jeff could feel it coming. It’s not that you didn’t want to go, you just didn’t want Jeff to spend money on you. Honestly, you’d be much more comfortable just laying in bed all day, baking cookies, or watching movies. Just being with him.

“I mean us!” He spits out abruptly. “We. Are getting our nails done.”

Jeff knows he’s done it now. But the smile on your face makes it all worth it.

“Yeah?” You ask, overly amused at the thought of Jeff getting a manicure or a pedicure.

“Yeah. We’ll do it together. I’ll just get what you get, I’m not really sure how these things work.” He admits, shrugging slightly.

Jeff follows you into the shop, eyes wandering as you decide on a color.

“This okay Atkins?” You ask. He turns toward you, eyes landing on a simple gray color.

“I uh- do you like it?” He questions back.

“Eh. It’s not my color but if you’re getting exactly what I’m getting, I don’t wanna put you thro-”

He grabs your waist cutting you off.

“Get whatever you like.”

You stood on your tip-toes, kissing his cheek before selecting a more salmon, pink color.

Jeff closed the door to your passenger seat once again before waddling over to the driver’s seat.

“I don’t understand how anyone can function after that! How long does it take to dry?” He asks inspecting his nails.

“Honestly I’m not sure babe. Every time you think they’re dry they smudge.” You say shrugging one shoulder.

“Well…did you have a good time?”

“Yeah! I just…you know you don’t have to buy me anything right?” You ask.

Jeff nods grabbing the blindfold off of the dashboard.

“I know.”

He motions for you to lean forward carefully placing your eye mask back on to avoid his nails. “I’m serious Jeff-” you mumble. He let’s go of the bands with a soft snap.

“Fine, no more money spending tonight.”

As Bruno Mars’s voice died out on the current song you both were listening to, you felt the car roll to a stop.

“Can I take this off?” You ask Jeff.

You heard the click of a seatbelt, the bang of a door, and a loud “NO” coming through the glass.

Jeff runs up to the front door, ringing the doorbell and glancing at his watch while he waited.

“Captain!” “Atkins!” Two voices say as the door swings open. “Here are the keys, and everything is in the back.”

Montgomery drops the keys to the pickup truck sitting in his driveway in Jeff’s hands.

“I’m tryna sell it, make some money to fix up the jeep a bit more, so no accidents.” he quips.

Jeff huffs over dramatically. “That was last year and it wasn’t my fault”

The two boys standing in the doorway laugh and Zach hands him a shopping bag filled with food. “Here’s your dinner, I just made it though so it’s really hot”.

Jeff nods at the taller boy. “Thanks guys, seriously.”

“No worries.” Zach says.

“All good. But hey, if this goes south, and Y/N is back on the market can I…?” Monty teases.

Jeff reaches out, pushing the boy by his chest.

“I’m JOKING!” Monty says laughing at his friend.

“You’re lucky you hit a triple yesterday” Jeff responds back, unable to hide the smile on his face.

“Atkins…are your nails pink?” Zach asks.

Jeff nods, working up some semblance of false confidence. “It’s not pink, it’s called ‘a great opera-tunity’” he enunciates.

“I’ll catch you guys later”, Jeff says turning on his heel before they can respond and jogs back to the girl waiting in his car.

Jeff opened the passenger door to see you patiently waiting for him.

“We’re moving princess.” He says helping you out of the car.

“Can I take this thing off?” You whine following Jeff’s hand around your waist.

“Nope. You just have to trust me.” Jeff guides you towards Montgomery’s car. Opening the door and helping you up and in.

Jeff exhales as he places the food on the floor of the backseat before going back to the driver’s seat.

He starts the car, connecting his phone to the aux cord continuing your playlist for the night. You were on ‘Like You’ by Bow Wow and Ciara.

Jeff parked the car telling you to wait for a few moments before he set up everything in the bed of the truck.

Blankets, pillows, a speaker to keep the playlist going, and a homemade meal.

He opened your door, taking off your blindfold, and lending you a hand to get out.

“Ummm…”

You were looking at what seemed like a mountain. You glanced back at Jeff, who was chuckling to himself, before starting again.

“I love the thought but there’s no way in hell I can climb that if that’s what you were thinking.”

“Yeah no, we just got our nails done.”

Jeff rests his hands on your shoulders turning you around. “I was thinking this.”
You turn to see an overlook of the entire town, the sun’s orangish hue casting a glow on the buildings.

“Jeff…” you whined, excited that he had even found something like this.

“Is that good or bad?” His arms wrap around your waist, head resting on your shoulder.

You turn your head towards him, bringing your hand to his neck and pulling him in for his first real kiss of the night. Jeff responded eagerly, moving the both of you onto the side of the car. His hands gripped your hips pulling you closer to him as his mouth attacked yours. When he finally pulled away, pecking your lips a few times more. He let out a nervous, quick laugh.

“Sorry, I just, I thought you weren’t going to kiss me all day.”

You bit your lip, lost for words. You were excited and flattered something as simple as that made him anxious.

He placed yet another chaste kiss onto your lips before helping you into the bed of the truck.

“Zach made that?” You questioned, surprised by how good it was.

“Mhm.”

“Basketball player Zach Dempsey??”

“Yeah! He’s on some high school musical, secret chef type stuff. Makes dinner for us almost every Wednesday.” He replies casually.

You were curled into Jeff’s side, head resting on his chest as though it were a pillow. You watched as the sun set, Electric by Alina Baraz playing in the background.

“How’d you find this place?” You mumbled into him, half asleep.

“Clay told me about it a while ago. I asked him where it was today.”

Jeff’s fingers traced random doodles against your skin, and he watched as you drowsed off.

“Night’s not over baby girl” he whispered to you, kissing your forehead.

You nodded absentmindedly, throwing a leg over his and shutting your eyes. Jeff smiled to himself, pulling a blanket over the two of you as he let you nap.

He taps your knee softly when he pulls up to your house.

“We’re back?” You say softly, not opening your eyes.

“Yeah. Wake up, it’s the last part”

Jeff had carried you back into the passenger seat of Monty’s car and then to his when he returned the car. He napped with you briefly, so he was more than excited for the final part of his plan.

You opened your eyes to see that you were home, mid Ed Sheeran song.

“What, no more blindfold?” you laughed.

Jeff shrugged, getting out and you followed him into your house, handing him your keys to let you both in. Your parents weren’t home, and you figured they were just out. The two of you made your way to your bedroom and Jeff covered your eyes with his hands.

When he let go, your mouth dropped at the sight of all the lights around your room. Your eyes glanced over the flowers sitting at your desk accompanied by a box of cupcakes, the shopping bag on your bed and the huge plush bear resting against your bed.

You spun around to see Jeff holding an 'I’m sorry’ balloon, a small pout formed on his lips.

“This is too much”, you say making a pout to match his.

“It’s not.” Jeff takes a step towards you holding your waist once again. “I really fucked up, and you still didn’t say anything when I asked you to go to Bryce’s” Jeff shakes his head, internally reliving how stupid he was.

“It’s ok-” you start.

“No, it isn’t. You shouldn’t even consider talking to me right now. I don’t deserve someone as good as you, and if you broke up with me right now I wouldn’t blame you.”

“Jeff…” his name falls out of your mouth with nothing else to follow.

“I’m sorry”

You nod wrapping your arms around his waist for a hug. He holds you close and tight, as though this were it for the two of you.

The two of you stand in your room, holding each other, the balloon floating at your ceiling.

“How’d you do this?” You mumbled into his shirt.

“Alex. I just gave him some money and told him where the spare key was.”

You could feel the vibrations of Jeff’s laugh.

“So you’ll probably need to move that”

You laugh with him in agreement.

“The bear is for if you don’t want me to stay.” He whispers to you.

You shake your head loosening your hold to look up at him.

“You can sneak back in tonight. I’ll let you know when my parents are asleep.”

Jeff smiles and you tilt your head back as he kisses you again. “Thank you.” You mumbled into the kiss.

Jeff pulls away, staring at you for a moment.
“Happy belated.”
