Jason Hackenwerth’s Pisces at The National Museum of Scotland, for Edinburgh’s International Science Festival, is made up from over 10,000 latex balloons. The exhbit was created by the New York-based artist, who revealed it took around six days to complete.
This is a photo from the 2010 Creativity World Forum. Balloon sculptures by Jason Hackenwerth were on display during the conference but as it ended, student volunteers were asked to pop the sculptures. A video of this can be found here. It was definitely a cathartic experience and it influenced my unusual post-processing. Back in 2010 when I made the image, I was influenced by dual synthetic and organic nature of Hackenwerth’s sculptures and the chaos of their eventual destruction. It was an extremely experimental image and while I don’t edit like this anymore, I find it interesting.
