In Between Dreams

“The only thing that stands between you and your dream is the will to try and the belief that it is actually possible.”

Magdalena Switek is a documentary photographer. Born in 1979, she lives in Krakow, Poland and from time to time in the USA. She gathers her personal gaze on the world. The purpose of this borderline is to be able to distinguish and capture. The moment between dream and reality, dirt and purity. She tells the story of the continuity of the body, the fragmentation of time, and the apparent unpredictability of our existence. In her opinion, the Earth is an incredible laboratory, in which we are destined to spend only a fraction of a second in the immensity of the universe. Everything we witness, experience and create belongs to us, regardless of what happens after our death. All her images are black and white. Black represents unrevealed secrets of human nature, something that cannot be named or defined by any science. It is a combination of peace and chaos, compliance and rebellion, resistance and submission. If worldly wisdom exists, it is contained in contradictions. Black is perceived as a protective and purifying colour, requiring almost spiritual peace of mind, which she has always been trying to achieve.

She is one of the winners of Mono Gomma Grant, Mono vol II by Gomma, Debuts edition 2015, Eastreet 3. Her photographs have been published in several magazines like: Hamburger Eyes, die nacht, Witty, Off The Wall. Her photographs were part of a few group exhibitions in Europe like: Noorderlicht Festival, Tiff Photofestival, Debuts, and projections: Delhi Photo Festival, Organ Vida, Coil project. She also featured in: Juxtapoz, Lensculture, Prism, Oitzarisme and Eastreet.

“Love is the answer for at least for most of the questions of my heart. Like, Why are we here? And where do we go? And how come it’s so hard? It’s not always easy and sometimes life can be deceiving, I’ll tell you one thing, it’s always better when we’re together”
