I hope to write a children’s book one day and get it illustrated, specifically for a group of children that is underprivileged in some form, this self proclaimed silly little dream of mine isn’t something I want to do in the near future for I want to experience and learn much more before going about such a task.
I am not entirely sure what it would be about, which group it would be specifically for or if I would be able to produce anything remotely good. Probably not, for now It’s nothing more than just a dreamer’s murmur.
Regardless, this goal of mine made me contemplate a timeless question - Just what is art? How do you define it and why is it important? Is it any form of expression? Anything “creative”? How do you categorize something so broad?
After much contemplation I realized I had been looking at it the wrong way for art is not the object but rather a consequence. The answer I give would be this, art is not an item but rather synergy, communication between human cognition and their senses. Said interaction may cause us to feel; be it sadness or joy, delight or disgust, shock or worry, confidence or shame. It may lead us to think, inspire us with new ideas, perhaps challenge or reaffirm our views or beliefs. It may cause us to reminiscence; memories, people, nostalgia, all of that which we have experienced.
Art is therefore important because it is through it that we grow. I then looked at my definition and realized just how broad and applicable it is to basically everything life and this world has to offer, well, that was when I knew that I had perhaps defined it correctly.“
