I’ll eat a lot of good food, take a lot of breathtakingly beautiful pictures, experience the gorgeous cultures of the world, and hopefully find myself too.

i’m in my prime,
not withering and old.
but i refuse to play
your wicked games any longer.

i know this tether is unbreakable,
but you make me feel like i’m interchangeable.
you drew a target on my heart,
when did this become fatal attraction?

i don’t have the strength,
the energy,
nor the patience
to be held hostage by your love.

so baby please don’t despair
when i say that
i’ve found the courage to
let you go.

you were never meant to be tied down in the first place.

i’m reading a very manly 1950s account of a hunt for el dorado but i’m thirty pages in and the narrator has already described his traveling companion as “handsome” 4 times, “extremely handsome” twice, “exceedingly handsome” once, his voice as “quietly husky” and “a husky whisper,” his fingers as long and deft, his body as “tall and cat-like,” and his eyes as some variation of ice-blue at least three times.

just men being dudes. dudes being pals. it’s great. this is great.

wrecker-radioactive  asked:

What if, knowing the post about how Adrien is smelling/sniffing out Ladybug it's because he smells the Bakery. Imagine Adrien going to every bakery but Dupain-Chengs. Having to explain why he has so many bakery boxes and why he stares at the employees. Or he goes in as Cat Noir an everyone is crazy about his latest review of a bakery.

AH, I LOVE THIS!!

Imagine it turns into a thing?? Chat Noir visits a bakery (looking for his lady), obviously doesn’t find her, but still takes a picture with the employees?? Bakeries around Paris start hanging up pictures of when Chat Noir visited them??? THERE’S EVEN TINY STICKERS IN THE SHAPE OF A CAT’S PAW, THEY PUT IT ON THE DOORS, ‘Chat Noir was here’.

Parisians start calling them ‘Chat’s bakeries’ and they become more popular with the teens™, etc. Poor babe just wanted to find his lady.

You have all sorts of people, the I only go to Chat Noir approved bakeries’ as well as the, ‘I thought this bakery was cool even before Chat Noir visited, so…’ and the, ‘Yeah, I’ve met him three times. We have the same taste in bakeries, isn’t that great?’ maybe some people start suggesting bakeries he could go to???

He always gets free boxes of treats, so (like you said) Adrien has all these bakery boxes in his room, he probably starts bringing them into school or whatever, to share.

MAYBE HE LETS IT SLIP HE ‘LIKES’ CAMEMBERT, to bribe Plagg because Adrien is abusing the Miraculous’ power shhhhhhhhhhh, AND THE BAKERIES GIVE HIM MOUNTAINS AND MOUNTAINS OF CAMEMBERT, PLAGG 1000000000% APPROVES.

Ladybug starts like??? “Why isn’t he going to the Dupain-Cheng’s bakery as well??? Excuse me???” and during patrol, “So… What bakery do you plan to visit next?” and Chat says he’s not sure. She just, “well, I love the cookies they sell at the Dupain-Cheng’s bakery…” AND BOOM.

Lars sticking his finger into James’ ear while James is holding a beer can on his head and Jason is imitating a tin soldier between them, all in front of the Eiffel tower.
Because of course.

touch is such a primal part of Jamie’s nature. to be deprived of touch for so long scarred him deeply. reduced his humanity. yet another aspect that Claire ultimately restored to him.

At night, you would hear the sounds of desperation, stifled sobs or stealthy rustlings. Some men would, in the end, reach out to another—sometimes to be rebuffed with shouts and blows. Sometimes not.

I wasn’t sure what he was trying to tell me, nor what it had to do with Thomas Christie. Or, perhaps, Lord John Grey.

“Did any of them ever … touch you?” I asked tentatively.

“No. None of them would ever think to touch me,” he said very softly. “I was their chief. They loved me—but they wouldna think, ever, to touch me.”

He took a deep, ragged breath.

“And did you want them to?” I whispered. I could feel my own pulse begin to throb in my fingertips, against his skin.

“I hungered for it,” he said so softly I could barely hear him, close as I was. “More than food. More than sleep—though I wished most desperately for sleep, and not only for the sake of tiredness. For when I slept, sometimes I saw ye.

“But it wasna the longing for a woman—though Christ knows, that was bad enough. It was only—I wanted the touch of a hand. Only that.”

His skin had ached with need, ’til he felt it must grow transparent, and the raw soreness of his heart be seen in his chest.

He made a small rueful sound, not quite a laugh.

“Ye ken those pictures of the Sacred Heart—the same as we saw in Paris?”

I knew them—Renaissance paintings, and the vividness of stained glass glowing in the aisles of Notre Dame. The Man of Sorrows, his heart exposed and pierced, radiant with love.

“I remembered that. And I thought to myself that whoever saw that vision of Our Lord was likely a verra lonely man himself, to have understood so well.”

I lifted my hand and laid it on the small hollow in the center of his chest, very lightly. The sheet was thrown back, and his skin was cool.

He closed his eyes, sighing, and clasped my hand, hard.

“The thought of that would come to me sometimes, and I would think I kent what Jesus must feel like there—so wanting, and no one to touch Him.”

– A Breath of Snow and Ashes

A thought

Marinette keeping the pics of Adrien up on her wall becuase she cant bring herself to throw them out, but adding pictures of her other friends as well so it’s less weird. Suddenly it’s Adrien and Alya and Nino and Rose and Kim and everyone at school who’s plastered against her walls. She adds pics of her parents, her neighbors, her Aikido instructor, and all the little kids she babysits. She even asks the regular patrons at the bakery if they’d mind posing for a portrait. (which of course they do because she’d always been so sweet and sunny and who could resist those blue eyes.)

then one day Adrien gets invited back to her house. maybe to study, maybe for video games, the reason isn’t important. what is important is the fact he climbs up into her room and just marvels at all the friends Marinette has. The sheer volume of people she knows is staggering, he thinks, and he spends a good ten minutes looking at every single picture.

Some wonderful things to keep in mind for this scenario:

  1. Adrien spots himself amongst her collection, and while he’s not-so-lowkey ecstatic over the fact someone cares enough about him to hang his picture on their walls, he’s also a bit glum that the only shots she has are from magazines. everyone else gets candid shots or laughing selfies, things that show their personality, but all his photos are fabricated and retouched. Impersonal. He gently brings this to Marinette’s attention, and suggests she take some new pictures of him. Pictures just for her. (cue Marinette dying)
  2. Adrien also happens to spot another familiar feline face on the walls, and just barely swallows down his pleased smirk (’cool it, you’re not in costume’) to find a dozen pics of Chat Noir scattered across Marinette’s room. Most of them he recognizes from the Ladyblog, but there’s one or two that seem to be candid captures of him on patrol. (which yeah, should probably freak him out but damn if Marinette’s photography skills dont make him look heroic as fuck under the moonlight.) He asks- very super casually -if she’s a fan, and is not at all emotionally prepared when Marinette launches into a speech about how Chat Noir is one of the most selfless, kind, and underappreciated people in all of Paris, and how he deserves just as much recognition as Ladybug for keeping the city safe. “Everyone needs to remember, his destruction is what balances Ladybug’s creation. Without each other, they’d be nothing,” Marinette prattles on. (Adrien nods mutely, desperately trying and failing not to fall in love.)
  3. Speaking of Ladybug… she’s noticeably absent from the walls. When asked about it, Marinette grows vague, saying something about how she’s waiting for the right picture or what not. something unique. something that isnt already on the walls of every Ladybug fan in Paris. ‘Something unique…’ Adrien muses, asking Marinette if he might barrow her camera for the night, ‘I might just be able to do that…’

So many kisses to Paris and this beautiful view at the @zadigetvoltaire event 🥂 home in New York now but I have a feeling I will be posting pictures from Paris all this week…don’t be alarmed, I just fell so much in love ♥️🌹

#ThankYouBones Week

Day 9: 4 Hodgela scenes that made you cry

I think perhaps my favorite thing about this couple is that they were completely unplanned at the start of the series. TJ and Michaela had such chemistry during their scenes together in season 1, that the producers and writers had no choice but to take notice. It wasn’t always smooth sailing for these two. And we even had to endure a broken up Hodgela for a couple years. It could have been painful, but I think they both grew into the people they needed to be in order to finally achieve their happily ever ever. Angela and Hodgins have been a joy to watch evolve and grow more and more in love with each passing season. One of my all-time favorite moments (not pictured) is when Hodgins made it possible for Angela to pursue her dream of living and working in Paris. The plans were set, and they had one foot out the door. But during their last case at the Jeffersonian, Angela witnesses Hodgins’ excitement as he operates a piece of machinery. And he literally tells the machine that he will miss it. The scene cuts to Angela just staring at her husband. And later, she informs him that they have to stay in D.C. Hodgins’ life is at the Jeffersonian. And she cannot take away his dream just to fulfill her own. Even if he would willingly bend the world to make her happy. “And-and I’m okay with it. As long as I’m with you.” Additionally, the paralysis arc was some of TJ and Michaela’s most compelling work to date. Like Booth and Brennan, Hodgins and Angela have proven time and time again that they are solid. Though they nearly crumbled when Hodgins spiraled into a dark and hopeless state after learning that he may never walk again. Angela refused to give up on her husband and the life they share. And she helped him find his way out of the darkness. Now they are thriving once more. And I couldn’t be happier. They deserve the world, and more. Angela is Hodgins’ carburetor for life.

“Okay, there’s a list of important phone numbers on the fridge and I made sure to put most of them in your phone, too. The schedule’s on the fridge, too. Don’t forget that Hana has ballet tomorrow night and Thursday night and Min has soccer practice after school every day this week. They have a big game on Saturday and it’s our turn to bring snacks. I’ve already bought them, they’re in the pantry in a green bag, just grab them on the way to the game. Takeout after the game is fine but please, for my peace of mind, cook something for them during the week. Or feed them some kind of vegetable. It doesn’t matter. Just don’t gorge them on McDonald’s all week, okay?”

Jay’s trying his hardest not to laugh as he nods at your instructions. “I know,” he sighs for the third time, “I’ve seen the schedule and the lists. You left recipes by the stove, too. You’re only going to be gone for a week. I think I can handle the kids for that long.”

You fix him with a look before you sigh and nod. “Fine, fine. I know. I trust you. It’s just, this is the first time I’ve been away from them for this long. A day or two, sure, but a whole week? It sucks.”

The Seduction of Jazz

A few months after college graduation, I moved to a tiny studio apartment in Manayunk, a neighborhood in northwest Philadelphia.  My apartment was on top of a bar tending school and was large enough for a bed and a coffee table, nothing more. To give you perspective, the kitchen stove was about four feet away from where I slept.  I found a picture of my empty apartment below and the photo was taken in the “kitchen”. It was here where I remember first listening to jazz….on purpose.

My short-lived love affair with jazz started one night after I watched Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris.  I always have romanticized the 1920s but the movie triggered a night’s worth of appreciation. I poured myself a glass a wine, sat on the stool near my window, lit a cigarette, and listened to the sounds of Louie Armstrong while watching the night life below me. That evening was so pleasurable that I made it a weekly habit that lasted about six months…

I later moved in with one of my best friends (shout out to Erika) to a new neighborhood in Philly.  Living with a roommate has a lot more pluses than negatives but you do have less time (and freedom) to enjoy nights alone. It was here where I stopped listening to jazz.

Flash forward to the present, where I am being seduced by jazz for a second time, and again it was triggered by a movie.  Although the film is set in modern times rather than the Jazz Age, La La Land’s one protagonist is a passionate jazz musician (played by Ryan Gosling) who’s dream is to open his own jazz club.  This resurfaced memories of my time in Manayunk and the nights where I suppressed the habit of watching TV, playing video games, or being on my phone but rather indulged in a slight buzz and jazz music.

The reasons I find jazz so alluring is because:

  • Jazz was the soundtrack to the Roaring Twenties, a decade that was progressive and rebellious.  Women’s suffrage was at its peak at the turn of the decade and women wanted a new standard for themselves. Women danced, smoked, drank, and talked freely about sex.  African American culture had a big impact on the 20s and females like Bessie Smith took over the radio. The youth took to night clubs and speakeasies to enjoy different styles of jazz.  People were using automobiles and telephones at large scale and motion pictures grew in popularity and accessibility. Those in their teens and twenties rebelled against the cultural norms of the older generations and progressive cities like London, Paris, and New York experienced a new “cultural edge”. In France, the Roaring Twenties are known as the Crazy Years which speaks to the chaotic nature of this decade.

  • Jazz is ever-changing.  Ryan Gosling’s character touches on this during a scene in La La Land –> jazz has a improvisational component to it which allows the artist to change up a song every time he/she plays it. This means that if you are listening to a live jazz band/artist, you may never hear that unique version of the song they are playing ever again. The same artist can play the same song over and over but the piece, to those that really listen, is always new.  Jazz also, on a larger scale, has evolved over time, as most genres do.  I encourage you to check out reddit user johno456′s answer to the thread below (also earning him reddit gold) to better understand the changes in jazz throughout the last few decades: https://www.reddit.com/r/Jazz/comments/4mjc13/a_challenge_for_you_jazzheads_name_ten_tracks/
  • Jazz gives me the feels.  Jazz makes me feel optimistic, sexy, and inspired.  I feel mature, yet youthful.  I find the whole experience of listening to jazz very pleasurable.
