I need to re read them

anonymous asked:

I saw you had a steven universe playlist and I got so excited because I thought you put your favourite SU songs into one playlist ;_;

Haha if they were available on Spotify, I totally would include them in my monthly playlists! But nope, if you read the description on that playlist, they’re all songs that are inspired by characters from the show! And YES, I need to add more songs based off of the new characters and the citizens of Beach City! I have slacked on that haha!

i’ve read literally every jarchie fanfic on AO3 since Riverdale premiered and every time a new chapter of a series comes out i need to go back and skim through the previous chapters to try to remember what happened in that timeline.

It’s like in your head you can perceive all these alternate universes that blur with one another, so similar yet so different, and you can’t tell them apart because they’re all true to you, they’re out there, one mess of angst and fluff, a thousand different versions of Archie and Jughead that always find each other. And it’s beautiful.

Jughead x Reader

A/N: thank you to everyone who’s made a request! i’m working on them & having so much fun. i love you guys ❤️ also- i hope i captured the feelings of a panic attack correctly. i’ve been fortunate enough to never actually experience one, so i based it off what i’ve read. but if you guys ever need someone to talk about this stuff- or anything- with, i’m here.

It happened for the first time when my parents broke the news to me about Jason. Cheryl, my older sister and Jason’s twin, was soaked when my eyes landed on her; her mascara had left stains on her cheeks, and her eyes were glossed over, like she couldn’t hear a word anyone was saying. Like she couldn’t even think; couldn’t breathe.

That’s how I felt. No matter how much oxygen I pumped into my lungs, it wasn’t enough. Then the room would spin, and the tears would spring to my eyes. I think my parents were scared, the first time it happened. I was too. But, as sad as it is, I’m almost used to it now. Not that you can ever really get used to panic attacks, but they happen so frequently these days, that I know exactly what to do. Or at least, that’s what I like to tell myself. I have a routine- when I have one at school (which is quite frequently) I excuse myself from the classroom, and rush straight to the bathroom with my head down. Then, I enter one of the stalls, and wait until it’s over. Afterwards, I clean myself up, and head back to class.

My biology teacher was handing back tests on this particular afternoon. I tried to mentally prepare myself for the grade I knew I would receive; this test had been a hard one, and I knew it didn’t go well. But when my teacher handed me back a test with a big red "F” on the top of it, I felt the air leave my lungs. Then, my hands began to tremble. I put my head down and stood up hastily. “Excuse me,” I mumbled quietly, to no one in particular, as I made my way to the door. I kept my head down as I rushed to the bathroom. “You’re almost there,” I tell myself in my head. “Almost there. Almost there…” I push the bathroom door open and smash straight into someone standing inside. I pick my head up to see the one and only Betty Cooper looking at me with wide eyes.

“I- I- I’m- I’m s- so- sorry,” I manage to stutter out.

Her eyebrows furrow when she takes in my flustered appearance. “Hey, are you okay?” she asks me gently. I open my mouth to respond, but I just start hyperventilating. Tears are beginning to slip from my eyes, and the room is spinning so wildly I can’t see a thing. Betty reaches out and takes my hand, steadying me as I squeeze my eyes closed, trying to collect myself.

“Are you alright?” another girl asks me. I straighten myself upright and take a deep breath, the spinning in my head finally slowing down, leaving me with a wicked headache. “I’m fine,” I whisper, barely audible.

“Are you sure?” she presses.

I let my eyes open, wincing at the harshness of the bathroom lights.

“Yes,” I mutter, a bit louder. I’m faced with the concerned looks of Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge. “I’m okay.”

“Do you need anything? Advil? Some tissues?” Veronica offers.

“Advil would be great, actually,” I tell her. She takes a small bottle out of her purse and hands me two small pills. I swallow them dry as I walk towards the mirror. I let out an audible groan when I see my appearance; my eyes are red and puffy from crying, and I have tear stains running down my cheeks.

“You know, I could help you with that,” Veronica offers, giving me a tentative smile.

“Thanks,” I sigh, allowing her to clean up my face with whatever makeup she’s pulling out of her bag.

“What happened?” Betty asks me quietly.

I sigh again, closing my eyes like Veronica instructs me to. “Panic attack,” I reply. “Happens pretty often.”

“I’m so sorry,” Betty tells me, and I hear the sincerity in her voice.

I reopen my eyes and give her a small smile. “It’s alright.”

“Hey, aren’t you Cheryl’s and Jason’s sister?” Veronica asks me.

My eyes drift down to the floor. “Yeah,” I whisper, saddened by the thought of my deceased big brother.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t-”

“It’s okay,” I cut her off with a smile. “Don’t worry about it.”

After a few moments of silence, Betty asks me, “Do you want to join us at Pop’s tonight? It’ll be the two of us, plus Kevin and Archie and Jughead. And you, if you want.”

I give her smile. “Yeah, I’d like that,” I tell her.

“Great!” Veronica beams. “Can’t wait.” She links her arm through mine, and I link my other through Betty’s. We walk out of the bathroom like that, the three of us, and eventually head our separate ways in the hallway. But now I have plans with some pretty nice girls, and something to actually look forward to.

Veronica, Betty, Kevin and I arrive at the diner first. Veronica and Betty slide into one side of the booth, and I take a seat on the end. Kevin sits across from us. We all place our orders, mine consisting of fries and a chocolate milkshake. We sit there, falling into easy conversation, talking about anything and everything until Archie and Jughead show up. “Hey there, boys!” Veronica calls to them, a playful smile on her face. The laughing boys walk over to join us, Archie sliding into the booth first, followed by Jughead.

“Guys,” Betty starts, smiling at me, “this is Y/N Blossom. She’ll be joining us today.”

“Jason and Cheryl’s sister?” Archie clarifies.

I give him a small smile. “That’s me.”

“Jughead Jones the third,” the boy across from me introduces.

I extend my hand out to him. “Nice to meet you,” I grin. A waitress- Veronica’s mom- walks over to our table, taking Archie and Jughead’s orders. Once they’re placed, we slip back into conversation, letting the time pass by as we laugh and eat and talk. Archie and I discover that we share a love of music, and the way his face lights up when he talks about it makes me giggle. Jughead stays quiet pretty though, adding in a sarcastic comment here and there, laughing at the rest of us. After a little while, though, the solace I’d found in that booth is shattered when Reggie Mantle walks in, surrounded by his little posse.

He recognizes me immediately. “Hey there, Blossom!” he calls to me.

I sigh. “Hi, Reggie,” I say.

“What’s uhh… what’s going on here?” he asks, eyeing everyone in the booth with me.

“Just trying to eat,” I tell him, desperate for him to leave.

“When did you start hanging out with this crowd?” he asks me, puzzled. Before I can answer him, he adds, “You know, Jason really wouldn’t approve of this.”

And just like that, all the of air suddenly escapes my lungs. “What?” I whisper, looking away from him.

“He would want you hanging out with the people he liked, not… well, you know.”

My hands start to shake, and my eyes burn with tears. “Excuse me,” I say, getting up from the table. Unfortunately, once I’m standing, I run straight into Reggie’s chest, causing him to reach out for my shoulders so that I don’t fall.

“Hey, where are you rushing off to?” he asks me.

“Please let go,” I whisper, trying to pull back from him. The room is beginning to spin and I start taking short, ragged breaths.

“Hey,” I hear someone say. “Let her go.” I recognize the voice as Jughead’s, and feel the familiar warmth of his hands as he steers me away from Reggie and out the door of the cozy diner. Once we’re outside, he lets me go, and I fall to the ground on my knees. I keep sucking in air, but it’s like the oxygen gets lost on the way to my lungs. The world is spinning, my head is pounding, I-

“Hey,” I hear someone say, breaking through my thoughts. “Hey, Y/N, look at me.” My eyes are still squeezed shut, but I manage to slowly pry them open. “There she is,” he says with a smile. “Deep breaths now, come on.” My breaking is too shaky to take a real breath in.

“I c-can’t-”

“Hey, just look at me,” he says softly. The world’s spinning begins to slow down, and I focus on radiant color of his eyes. He takes my hands in his, giving them a reassuring squeeze. “It’s alright,” he tells me. And I believe him.

The spinning finally stops, and after a few minutes, I am almost able to breathe correctly again. I sigh, and gaze at the dark haired boy in front of me. “Thank you,” I whisper.

He gives me a sweet smile. “Anytime.”

hi swancy!!! I was wondering if you're still going to make a sapheal fic rec? It's fine if you aren't but I really miss my boys and would love to read some fic of them especially after these awful izzy/raphael scenes

Yes! I’ve made a rec, it’s sitting in my drafts. I just need to make a gif to go with it and add a few more fanfics. But I’m hoping to post it on Friday? :D if you message me again tonight nonnie I’ll rec you some quick saphael fics before the big one on Friday ❤️😘

Also for Malec peeps, I just read another malec!kid fic and I just wanna cry because it has 5 chapters so far and ITS SO CUTE.

anonymous asked:

can you please explain the meaning of 'something just like this'?

My (syd) interpretation is something like this:
A person (I’ll say a man bc a man wrote it) is reading about superheroes and mythical legends and doesn’t see himself as good enough to be like them. But the woman he’s in a relationship basically tells him that he doesn’t need to be a super hero, she just wants someone who is there for her and that’s good enough. And then the saying “Something just like this” implies to me its the relationship that they already have….so…in the end the song is saying you’re good enough and we don’t need a fairytale or for you to be a hero saving someone for us to have a good relationship. i hope that makes sense. Someone else might have a diff interpretation but that’s it for me!!!

I tried to ask Sarah her thoughts but she hasn’t listened enough sry

edit: sarah wanted me to clarify she has listened 50+ times.

For the fanfic ask meme: 10. Favorite trope/element/scenario in fic? / 13. Has a fic ever made you cry? / 41. Favorite fluffy tropes?

(thank you for putting the questions in the ask that makes my life like 9 million times easier)

10. Favorite trope/element/scenario in fic?

OH MAN WHERE DO I BEGIN- the-lost-in-the-snow-and-need-to-huddle-for-warmth-trope, the Oh-No-There’s-Only-One-Bed-Trope, the A-kills-B’s-abusive-boss/parent/lover/authority figure-and-brings-them-proof (Not sure if that one’s an actual trope but I’re read that fic enough), I love Dumpster Fire Ships that are handled where all the warts are visible and analyzed, I love one character teaching another how to do something (esp if it’s smutty), Enthusiastic Consent/kink neogtiation, Workplace AUs that really capture the madness of late-stage capitalis, and when the author raves about something they deeply love and know too much about in the middle of a fic.

13. Has a fic ever made you cry?

Frequently, and YOU ARE THE AUTHOR OF AT LEAST TWO OF THEM, YOU MONSTER.  Seriously, if you like Republic Commandos and Having your heart torn out, go look up StarOfWinter on Ao3.

41. Favorite fluffy tropes?

Character-A-tries-a-special-food-for-the-first-time, A-calms-B-down-from-a-panic-attack, Messing-with-the-plot-to-turn-a-dark-universe-into-a-farce, and I’m not sure if it’s fluff OR a trope, but Characters-have-to-deal-with-batshit-insane-but-hilarious-scenario-like-there’s-a-squirrel-on-fire-in-the-house.

We know Ben and/or his PR team read our skeptic blogs. I wonder what they think of the ever-increasing chitchat about his sexuality, three years in? If they're aware more of us than ever are suspecting he's gay or bi as a direct result of their meddling, are they kicking themselves, or what? (Does that make sense?)

It does. And I am sure it’s not making them happy. As anyone who has broken away from a narc will tell you, once you are free, you wonder why you were so scared to leave. So Benedict’s team needs to conquer their fear and just rip off the bandaids and move on.

The most valuable thing I learned doing a Masters degree with depression, anxiety and ADHD was to change my “things I’m bad at” list to “things I can’t do on my own.” Stop thinking of them as things I could do if I tried hard enough, and accept that I can’t accomplish them by effort and willpower alone; they’re genuine neurocognitive deficits, and if I need to do the thing, then just like a blind person reading or a mobility impaired person going up a storey in a building, I need to find a different method.

I’m “bad at” working on long-term projects without an imminent deadline or someone breathing down my neck? Okay, let’s change that: I can’t work on long-term projects without an imminent deadline and someone breathing down my neck. So let’s create an imminent deadline and recruit neck-breathers. Find a sympathetic prof who will agree that 3 weeks before the due date they expect me to show them my preliminary notes and bibliography. Get a friend I trust to block off an hour to sit with me and keep asking, “Are you working on your project?” Write a blog post about my progress. Arrange to trade papers and proofread them with another student.

Accept your limitations and learn to leverage them, instead of buying the neurotypical fairytale that they’ll go away if you just try hard enough.

Things I Think Newbie Tarot Readers Need To Know

1. You can store your decks in whatever way you choose. There’s no real right or wrong way, aside from tossing them in the trash.

2. You don’t NEED a “sacred space” to read. You can read hanging upside down on the monkey bars if you’re up for a challenge.

3. You don’t need to be a witch to read tarot. I say again, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A WITCH TO READ TAROT.

4. Tarot cards hold as much power as you let them. Some view them as sacred items, others view them as just a fun card game. No one else can tell you how to view them, that’s just a personal thing.

5. There is no real *set* way to read. The majority of the reading is intuition-based, so trust your gut.

6. You don’t need thousands of decks. (Though, I mean, you may want them.) The amount of decks you have/don’t have doesn’t measure your abilities.

7. Don’t get put off by people who think your reading was irrelevant in their life. Sometimes, readings take time to actually manifest. You’re doing great. Don’t let this deter you.

8. The amount of times you cleanse your deck is ENTIRELY up to you. Some people do it after every reading. Some people do it..well, maybe never. The choice is yours.

9. There is no right or wrong way to shuffle your cards. At. All.

10. Sometimes reading for yourself can be hard. It’s okay to have someone else read for you. Seriously.

11. Don’t be intimidated if you’ve just started. We’ve all started from day one.

12. You may run into some elitists, and while you shouldn’t punch them in the face, you should make sure what they say doesn’t make you uncomfortable in how you do things. This is all YOU, not THEM.

Feel free to add on to this if y’all have a little something to put.

How to study in College
  • Take notes in class
Never go to class without some paper and a pen. Writing something down is the first step to remembering it.
  • Get a planner
If you don’t know what you need to study or work on, you’ll never actually do it.Getting into this habit of jumping on work and studying is a hard one to form, but having a planner to remind you is a good way to start.
  • Re-read the notes
I’ve heard it everywhere, the best way to remember material is to re-read it after your class. Sorry to break it to you, but after you first take those notes in class, your job doesn’t end there. Make sure that you re-read your notes, preferably within 24 of when you originally took them. Refresh your mind on the material learned.
  • Re-Write the notes
Now that you’ve re-read the notes, you might have noticed how sloppy they look. Taking notes by hand in class can be daunting, difficult, and rushed. Some of the things you wrote might be in short hand, some might be hard to read, and some might not make any sense. Make them look pretty. Science has backed the fact that writing it down helps you memorize it.
  • Write out the essay prompts ahead of time
I wrote out my entire essay:
introduction, conclusion and all. Then, I wrote out a very simple outline on a blank sheet of paper which covered the basis of the points I cover in the essay. I memorized this first, reading it and writing it over and over and over again. This way, if I couldn’t retain anything else I would at least know the basis of what I was talking about. Then I printed out the essay, and made a highlighting color coded system. I highlighted everything I absolutely needed to get correct and have memorized (such as any statistics or quotes I was including) in pink. I highlighted every point that I needed to include, no matter what phrasing I used, in orange. Finally, I highlighted a few extra points that I would be proud of myself if I memorized in yellow. I read this, re-read this, read it again. Then I gave it to my roommate and tried to recite the entire thing from memory.
  • Consider making flashcards
If you are studying for any class that requires memorization, chances are that flashcards will benefit you. On the blank side, put the keyword or phrase. On the lined side, put the definition or description of that keyword/phrase. This tried and true trick is a great way of quizzing yourself, especially if you are learning a new language or new vocabulary.
  • Try it with music, then try it without it
Music is a fantastic study tool, but it isn’t for everybody. There has been a lot of studies surrounding the fact that music boosts productivity and motivation. If you find that music doesn’t help you, then try turning it off. It’s possible that you trying to force yourself to listen to music all these years has actually been deterring your focus! Everybody is different, so try it out and see if it helps.

Studying how to study...

Person: “What are you doing, Shawn?”

Me: “Studying.”

Person: “Nice. What are you studying?”

Me: “How to study.”

Person: “Ummm.. what? What are you studying?”

Me: “I’m studying how to study.”

Person: “Umm… how?”

Me: “I’m watching YouTube videos and reading blog posts on different study, reading, and note-taking techniques, and then comparing them to see which one works best for me so when I study I learn the material the best and can read the fastest.”

Person: “Ummm… that’s great. But it sounds like a lot of research. Don’t you need to read the text and study for your current class you’re in?”

Me: “Yeah, I’m three days behind on my reading and assignments. But I’m learning how to learn.”

@ the people adding fake captions on dnp's videos

fuck off.

i try not to get too real on here because serious conversation isn’t my forte, but i’m a bit pissed so bear with me.

if you don’t know, some people have been adding fake captions on phil is not on fire 8 (and possibly other videos idk), saying shit like ‘how gay are you right now’ and other phan related stuff. now, the fact that it’s phan isn’t even the problem, i’m sure dan and phil can take a joke.

however imagine being one of the people who genuinely need these captions to understand the content of the video. there are plenty of deaf and HoH people watching youtube videos - not to mention people who aren’t that fluent in english and find it easier to read than hear - and for them these captions are genuinely helpful! so when you add in stuff they haven’t actually said because it’s “funny”, all you’re achieving is keeping these people from understanding what’s going on. congrats, you’re a shitty person.

~ ok i’m done thank u for ur time ~

Finish Your Antibiotics

I’m sorry, this isn’t Jojo at all but I think I’ve had it for today. As a pharmacy tech, I’m tired of hearing “Well, I started to feel better so I didn’t finish them.” I always knew this but now as a Molecular and Cellular Biology major, I not only know why but how. If you’re willing to heed my advice from the title, good; be on your way. If you need to know more, keep reading.

It’s widely known–to some extent–that not completing a regiment of antibiotics can result in resistant bacteria, or even super bacteria.

But in an infection, you already have resistant bacteria lurking. Not taking antibiotics doesn’t literally create resistant bacteria. So how, then, do the antibiotics take care of the resistant ones?

A lot of antibiotics aren’t bacterialcidal: They don’t actually kill them. Many inhibit growth by some mechanism depending if the bacteria is gram negative or gram positive. For example, penicillin inhibits growth by disrupting the formation of a peptidoglycan layer on gram positive bacteria. Others target the LPS layer on gram negative ones. This keeps the non resistant bacteria at bay. So what kills the resistant ones? Your immune system. Antibiotics buy time and energy for your immune system to recognize and destroy the resistant strains. Your immune system is intelligent in that sense and can form antibodies for new illnesses. It’s important to give your immune system this time because bacteria grow, mutate, and transfer genetic material at astonishing rates. If you wanted to look at a microcosm of the mechanics that go into evolution, you’ve got it with bacteria.

There are three methods aside from binary fission in which they transfer genes (I won’t get into the minutia of the form of informational material): Transformation, transduction and conjugation.

In transformation, a bacteria can pickup lost genes from a ruptured and dead cell.

Transduction is a way to transfer information via a viral vector.

In conjugation, genes are transferred through something called a pilus: It’s a bridge between two cells that pipes a copy of the information from one cell to another receptive cell and is the only method that doesn’t involve killing either cells. Resistant bacteria like to give around that resistance information like they’re burning a CD for their friends.

So please finish your antibiotics if you’ve been given them. It doesn’t matter if you’ve started to feel better or even great. Finish them.

(Hey science people, If I’ve missed anything or even got something wrong, help me out. There’s obviously lengthy stuff I’ve left out but I think I got the basics).

Tip if you live with room mates or parents:

Make your bedroom your SANCTUARY. Make a place you want to go to at the end of the day to relax, having a dirty room is so stressful. And I get it, you sit there and stare at it, but don’t tackle the clutter because it’s overwhelming. My advice, just start somewhere. Even if it takes you a few days. GET RID OF STUFF YOU DON’T NEED. Minimize your belongings. (Read DO LESS by Rachel Jonat. It has seriously changed my view on organization and clutter and has opened my habits and my mind to minimalism) I donate all of my unused but salvageable goods to thrift stores, because keeping them around to try and sell them can cause you to continue to be overwhelmed.
Then, once you’re room is cleaned, let your bed be your bed. It’s for sleeping and lounging only. Try to get a good desk for homework and study.
Then for decorations
GET COZY SHEETS, CANDLES, FAIRY LIGHTS, drape tulle or tapestries along your walls or ceilings with push pins or command hooks. (Small Holes in walls are easy to fix by yourself btw, just do a quick google search.)
Get a cozy comforter and comfy pillows. If you have an uncomfortable mattress, get a comfy foam mattress topper (@ target for $12) to help. Keep a little tray that you can lay your night time goodies on. Mine has a lavender pillow spray, a wide tooth comb, water bottle, Vaseline (I put it on my lips, lashes and brows before bed), and my notebook in case I have any wild ideas I want to jot down during the night.
Keep a catch all try by your door. Lay your keys, sunglasses, watch, etc. there, so you know where they are when you’re rushing out the door. Also, have a place to put your purse. If you can’t put a hook on the wall to hang it up, get an over the door hook hanger from Walmart. (I love this thing because I keep my purse, school bag, fave Nike hat and umbrella there, and I always know where I put them.
Use things like white boards, calendars, and pin boards to keep yourself organized, and design yourself a motivational vision board.
ORGANIZE YOUR DRESSER. Keep socks, undies, bras, tights in the top drawer, then shirts, then pants. But if you can, hang up tips that you know will get wrinkles easy.
Put a cozy rug in your room to keep your feet warm, but don’t forget to clean it, because if you have pets it will start to stink.
Keep clutter off your bed and DIRTY CLOTHES IN THE HAMPER. I don’t care if you need 3 hampers, idc if you need 3 hampers for dirty clothes and 2 for clean clothes, just KEEP THEM OFF THE FLOOR.
Play some chill music while you just hanging out. Light your candles, sit back, and enjoy your beautiful chill room.

Using The Word "Sinning" Isn't Wrong

I feel like I need to clear something up. I see all these posts like “stop using sinning and saying u need Jesus when talking about gay ships. It’s homophobic” blah blah blah
I know not every shipper sees it the way I do, but I feel many others might, so let me try to explain right quick. We don’t use the word “sinning” to describe these otps because they’re GAY, we use it because the situation that we have put that particular otp in is incredibly sexual and sometimes disgusting. It has 0 to do with the sexuality or gender of the ship. Good lord, I once read a fic of my gay otp where one of them put a banana in the others ass while having sex (years ago, I was reading a lot of weird shit). Calling something sinning or saying “I need Jesus” when referring to a ship has fuck all about them being gay. It’s the incredibly graphic sexual situation we put them in that is the “sinning” part. If I read the stories I do now with straight ships, I’d still comedically call it sinning because of how vivid and graphic the sex is in these fics. If I were to watch a straight couple where one of them paddled the other one on the ass then proceeded to tie them to a bed post and fuck the day lights out of them while they were gagged, I would still end that with “Holy shit, I need Jesus.” Why the fuck do you think pictures or fics about two dudes cuddling is not tagged sinning??
We ship these ships because we love and believe in them. What, do you think we ship them, but then secretly we’re like “yeah these two are a beautiful couple, BUT THEY’RE SUCH SIN OMG THIS IS GROSS AND DISGUSTING I CANT BELIVE THIS.” I can guarantee, that is not the case. The “sinning” term is just our way of trying to convey that what we are reading is intensely graphic, so please stop making it seem like this term has anything to do with sexuality when IT DOESN’T. AT ALL.

Things to do Long-Term
  • Donate. Donate to Planned Parenthood. Donate to the Trevor Project. Donate to the ACLU. Set up monthly donations, if you can. Waves of donations are good, but if you forget about them except for every four years, they’re still not going to have enough money.
  • Support newspapers. Subscribe to a reliable newspaper like the New York Times or the Washington Post, if you can. They need the money. Read BBC. Seriously, get some of your American news from BBC. Check the Guardian and Al Jazeera.
  • Check your facts. Make sure you’re not reading fake news stories. Especially if you want to argue with people, make sure you know what you’re talking about. I know there’s this whole thing about, oh, you shouldn’t need to cite things, but few things will lose you arguments faster than citing false information you read on the internet somewhere. And beyond that, you’re better off knowing the truth.
  • Watch Fox News. Don’t watch it to get your news. Watch it to see what the rhetoric is of the other side.
  • Try to understand the other side. This isn’t saying to empathize them. This isn’t saying to rationalize or forgive what they’re saying. But if you want to be able to fight, you need to understand what you’re fighting against.
  • Don’t dismiss different people as irrational. Most of these debates—other than, to some degree, economics—are moral. Morality isn’t about rationality. Racism isn’t irrational. It’s terrible, but there is a logic to it. It’s a logic we disagree with, but if you dismiss all of as irrational then you doom yourself to failure from the beginning.
  • Check the Southern Poverty Law Center hate map. Know where the hate groups are. Know what the hate groups are. Be aware.
  • Vote every year. Vote in midterm elections. Vote in down-ballot races. Don’t wait for presidential elections to vote.
  • Follow which reporters Trump bans. Follow what restrictions he puts on the press. Don’t let him silently chip away at the First Amendment.
  • Follow what his family is doing. Protest conflicts of interest.
  • Follow politics in Europe. Watch for the rise in right-wing nationalism. Keep track of who he’s friendly with. Keep track of the rhetoric over there. Be aware.
  • Don’t make Trump supporters into martyrs. Don’t start violence against individuals. This isn’t saying don’t fight fire with fire, but if you make them into martyrs then you validate them.

I read the disney animator interviews and it said “designing/animating female characters is much more difficult than with male characters” but look. The females look almost identical with slight changes, so what’s so difficult about it? Then it became obvious. The female characters aren’t allowed to be flexible. They’re limited. Male characters make ugly faces if needed to show emotions, but the females aren’t allowed to. They have to be pretty all the time, which is why the artists find it difficult to work with them. It’s a shame for girls to be taught that they can’t be ugly even for a second. Have you seen Maui and Moana sketches? They have Maui making ugly faces, sad faces, happy, scared and all, but they only made Moana sketches of her slightly sad, normal and happy faces. They’re scared to freely animate her face and I’ve noticed while watching the film. For example when she sings “how far I’ll go” in the very end of the song you can see her open mouth looking wrong, as if her jaw is gonna break. That’s because since they weren’t allowed to design her freely, she looked stuck and limited. Like, none even have wrinkles when they smile, which is insane! But male characters do. Since I also study animation, this pisses me off.

Ah, another new year, another new rec list. So, to reiterate, fics could have been started at the very end of 2015, but they had to have been finished in 2016 to count for the rec list. So fics can’t have started in 2016 and finished these past few days - those fics won’t count for this list.

*** The main fics recced on this list will be Sterek, but I also read a few other fics from other fandoms this year and I wish to share them on this list too. Enjoy!

*Not a Promise by eeyore9990 (1,574 words | Rated T | One-Shot)

Promises can be broken. Stiles’ love for Derek cannot.

That’s a fact.

But maybe Derek needs to hear it anyway.

*the office by stilinskisparkles (3,197 words | Rated T | One-Shot)

“Sure, I like him,” Derek scowls right at the camera, “We’re friends.” He blinks, expression suddenly going hopeful, “Why, did he say something?”

“I have worked at Beacon Hills Office Supplies for two and a half years,” Stiles pretends to hang himself with his tie, glances out of the conference room to where Derek is signing for a package with a suspicious look on his face. “It’s not all bad, I guess?”

*Always Had the Key by Omni (3,304 words | Rated T | One-Shot)

Years after Derek’s left Beacon Hills, he runs into Stiles at a conference for werewolves and their emissaries. While they both have changed a lot, some things still remain the same.

*”Five Days in Detention” (A Future Song by Stiles Stilinski) by alisvolatpropiis (3,408 words | Not Rated | One-Shot)

It’s still preseason, sure, but he needs to be practicing. He led the team to the State semifinals last year, and he’s determined to not only make it to the finals this year, but to win the title. He should be on the field right now, practicing his play calls and prepping for next week’s season opener against Saint Pius.

And he can’t do that if he’s wasting his time in detention with these losers. There are a couple of burnouts lazing over some seats by the window, one kid with his face on a desk, hood over his head, and a few Goth kids are sitting in the back corner, looking surly and morose. Maybe you wouldn’t be so miserable if you didn’t listen to such shitty music, he thinks, turning towards his usual seat in the back of the room.

He pauses for the briefest of moments when he sees who’s already sitting there, in the second-to-last row, black-clad limbs spread out, acoustic guitar in his lap, long fingers casually plucking at the strings.

Stiles Stilinski.

*When Your Teachers Have No Chill by giantteenwolforgy (4,314 words | Rated E | One-Shot)

Derek’s not his boyfriend, but sometimes it feels like he should be.

*How to Pretend You’re Not a Virgin and Other Sordid Tales by KuriKuri (5,347 words | Rated T | One-Shot)

Stiles likes the anonymity, the security his pseudonym provides. Likes that there are entire forums dedicated to speculating about his identity: his gender, his sexuality, his age.

Of course, there’s one thing they all seem to agree on: he’s some sort of sex god.

Which is really, really awkward, because he’s a twenty-three year old virgin.

(Or: in which Stiles is a bestselling erotica novelist and Lydia makes him attend a convention to promote his upcoming book.)

*Little Talks by Vendelin (5,387 words | Rated M | One-Shot)

“Your favourite is here,” Danny says, smirking. “I tried to steal him away by giving him some extra attention, but he just looked uncomfortable.”

Stiles snorts, though he’s secretly pleased by his regular rejecting Danny. “He always looks a bit uncomfortable. I bet he’s married with a kid and a permanent guilty conscience when he’s here.”

It had been quite the surprise for Stiles to realise that he had a regular. A pretty young, hot regular, on top of that.

In which Stiles is a stripper, and Derek is the always-polite regular at the club where he works.

*The Witching Hour by MellytheHun (8,129 words | Rated T | One-Shot)

The radio host AU no one ever asked for but I have written anyway because sometimes when DJ’s play several sad songs in a row, I worry about their mental health and then this AU was born.

*feel the magic between you and I by stilinskisparkles (11,432 words | Rated M | One-Shot)

“See?” Derek holds his arms out, “Everything’s working out great for you, and I still have no dance partner,” he turns to Erica, “Face it, no one is as good as you.”

“We still have one more,” she sing songs.

Derek peers over to the list, flinches when he sees Stiles’ name, “No.”

“You haven’t even seen me dance, and you’re already dismissing me?” Stiles sails into the room, tossing his bag in the corner as he does so and doing a dramatic spin to face them. “I got moves.”

*Are You Happy by theabominablesnowman (33,180 words | Rated G | One-Shot)

Stiles has been away for work for a little over two weeks, and Derek and their son are getting antsy about it. (Who wouldn’t?)

Or, a few days in the life of the Hale-Stilinski family, and a whole lot of fluff.

The Foxhole Court:
