I mean without the torture and murder you know but still

This is what “balancing the Force” looks like:

I wrote a 25-page paper on Star Wars arguing that “bringing balance to the Force” didn’t mean “the Jedi will be 100% in control” (and of course not the opposite) but bringing the two aspects of the Force into alignment, using Anakin as a case study. Brief recap of my paper:

  • EPISODE I
    • The Jedi literally don’t know that slavery still exists in the galaxy and are shocked when Shmi says “The Republic doesn’t exist out here… We must survive on our own.” So like… the fuck.
    • Anakin asks Qui-Gon “Have you come to free us?” and Qui-Gon says “No, I’m afraid not,” to which Anakin replies, “Why else would you be here?” Here we can see the innocence and goodness in Anakin juxtaposed against the moral ambiguity of the Jedi. They’re there for repairs on their ship - nothing more, nothing less. Witnessing slavery does nothing to change those priorities.
    • The Jedi take a child away from his mother, and when Anakin is (rightfully) scared for his mom, who has been left in slavery, the Jedi are still like well, you know, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, enforcing the laws against slavery seems kinda like a lot of work so we’re just not gonna get involved. That’s like… not quite what you would expect from the “Light” Side.
    • Anakin is literally a child whose mother has been left in slavery and, understandably, he’s kind of freaked out. Instead of acknowledging Anakin’s pain as legitimate and working with him, the Jedi take an oppositional stance, telling Anakin that “Fear is the path to the dark side” - a phrase that was much more apt in the Original Trilogy than it is here, where Anakin is only nine, and his fears are 100% rational.
  • EPISODE II
    • Obi-Wan asks Anakin if he’s sleeping poorly because of his mom, Anakin basically admits yes, and Obi-Wan says “Dreams pass in time.” Uh, Obi-Wan, I’m sure you have good intentions and all, but the problem isn’t in the dream world. Anakin’s dreams are a reflection of the actual, legitimate, very real danger his mother is in, and Obi-Wan’s response only dismisses Anakin’s fear and drives him further away from the Jedi Council. And, again, the Jedi could have fixed this entire situation by either rescuing his mother or actually trying to stop slavery instead of just paying lip service to the idea.
    • Anakin and Padmé fall in love, and Padmé is like “yo is this, like, allowed to happen for you??” and Anakin says “Attachment is forbidden. Possession is forbidden. Compassion, which I would define as unconditional love, is central to a Jedi’s life, so you might say we’re encouraged to love.” So… Taking a woman’s child so he can fulfill their prophecy and leaving that woman alone and enslaved on a desert planet is compassionate behavior now? Right. Sounds fake, but okay. Also, Anakin is literally pointing out the hypocrisy in that statement - so you can love humanity and people, but you can’t love a person? That’s super weird.
      • Falling in love is like… not really something you can help? Especially not the first time. Just, you know, speaking as the classic lesbian who has fallen for a straight best friend… just saying “don’t do that” is not really going to help. At all.
    • At this point, the Jedi have created a situation where if Anakin falls in love (as he is wont to do as a literal teenager who was not brought up in the Jedi Order of his own volition), he has to keep that love secret or a) risk expulsion from the Jedi and b) prove them “right” that he can’t be trusted. Which, you know, nobody wants to do.
    • Padmé tells him that he “had a nightmare again last night,” and Anakin says, “Jedi don’t have nightmares.” Yo, what the fuck. This kid is a teenager, his mom is on a desert planet and enslaved, and now he feels like he’s not even allowed to have nightmares? Which are not conscious? I get that the Jedi are supposed to have total control over themselves, but first of all, that’s a completely unrealistic expectation to have of anyone, much less a teenager, and second of all, that’s a real fucked up thing to imply on a mental health level. “You’re guilty, even for the pain that your brain is inflicting on you from childhood trauma in situations (i.e., unconsciousness) that you can’t even control!” Yeah, no. There is no way that could possibly go well.
      • If Anakin is made to feel guilty for being scared or having nightmares or missing his mom from whom he was taken when he was not even ten years old, and Jedi are pointing to those feelings as evidence that he is dangerous and untrustworthy, he is put in a situation where he cannot admit that he needs help and therefore cannot access help. Like, just get the kid a shrink! And maybe rescue his mom! There are ways to address this and help Anakin stop having feelings, if that’s something we really have to do, without shaming him, which is gross and also distinctly unhelpful.
    • Anakin goes back to Tatooine to find his mom, she’s been kidnapped and tortured by Tusken Raiders, she dies in his arms, and he slaughters the Tuskens and vows to become so powerful he will be able to stop people from dying. Which, like, is not ideal - not condoning murder - but he’s also seen his mother for the first time in years, like at least half a decade, and he is a) completely overrun with survivor’s guilt and b) rightfully grieving and c) also rightfully pissed the fuck off that he finally sees him mom again only to have her die in his arms. Like, I’d be pissed, too. And you know what helps with grief? Talking it out!! Therapy!! Friendship!! You know what Anakin doesn’t have? Literally any of those things. He can’t admit that he’s grieving his mom because it would threaten his place in the Jedi Order. The Order’s strictness continues to place him in a catch-22 where admitting he needs help is already condemning him.
  • EPISODE III
    • Anakin beats Count Dooku in part because he is furious that Palpatine has been “captured” and taps into the Dark Side with that emotion. THEN, Padmé’s like “surprise, I’m pregnant,” and Anakin (again, understandably) flips the fuck out. He has nightmares about her dying in childbirth, and guess who he can’t go to for advice or help or even consolation? The Jedi!! Wow, this is going so well for everyone, what great policies we have here.
    • The Jedi Council want Anakin to spy on Palpatine, and Anakin (correctly) points out to Obi-Wan that this goes against the Jedi Code, against the Republic, and asks why Obi-Wan is asking this of him… to which Obi-Wan replies, “The Council is asking you.” So, you know, this doesn’t exactly endear Anakin to the Council, who have already been pretty shitty to him and are now seemingly hypocritical as well.
    • Palpatine says to Anakin, “Be careful of the Jedi, Anakin. They fear you. In time they will destroy you.” and yeah, he’s playing on Anakin’s confusion and suspicions and totally using him as a pawn here, but he’s also right. The Jedi have proven themselves to not have Anakin’s best interests at heart, even if they have good intentions. And they do fear Anakin, so, you know, that whole “non-attachment prevents fear” thing isn’t really working out for them either.
    • Palpatine tells Anakin that the Dark Side can allow you to control death, and Anakin (who, let’s remind ourselves, has watched his mother die in his arms) begs to know how so he can save Padmé should his nightmares come true and she die in childbirth. And, again, since he can’t go to the Jedi for any help with this, he feels he has no choice but to trust Palpatine.
    • Here we get to a real fun sequence of events. Palpatine tells Anakin he’s a Sith. Anakin threatens to kill Palpatine, but doesn’t, so he can maintain the possibility of learning how to save Padmé. He goes to tell the Jedi, who rush into action and don’t allow him to join them because they think his fear will cloud his judgment, ignoring the fact that a) they’re scared out of their asses too, and b) he literally just betrayed someone close to him??? for people who have really been nothing but shitty??? So I feel like Anakin’s doing surprisingly well rn and the Jedi are basically like, “Yeah, great, but also fuck you and stay here.”
    • Soooooooo, Anakin goes to save Palpatine (again, to then save his wife), and in order to save him he kills a Jedi. At this point, Anakin’s like “I’m completely fucked,” which is true (although he’s been fucked from the beginning because the Jedi suck), and he pledges himself to Palpatine because he doesn’t think he has any other option.
    • Okay, then he goes and murders a bunch of kids, so like. That’s not great. Not gonna condone that. This was A Mistake™. I think we can all agree on that. Moving on.
    • Obi-Wan and Yoda see footage of Anakin’s fun murder time and Obi-Wan goes to try to find and defeat Anakin. In order to find him, he tells Padmé what happened and then hides away on her ship.
    • Padmé talks to Anakin, flips out when she realizes Obi-Wan was telling the truth, and as she tries to talk Anakin down from his panic- and grief-fueled descent into insanity he says, “I won’t lose you the way I lost my mother! I’ve become more powerful than any Jedi has ever dreamed of and I’ve done it for you. To protect you.”
      • Side note, at this point I get annoyed because, like, Anakin, she literally Did Not Ask. Buddy, pal, friend, she specifically told you not to do this. I know your heart is in the right place, but like, this really could have all been prevented if you’d just listened to your wife. Why are the women in Star Wars consistently the only people who know what the fuck is going on?
    • Obi-Wan reveals himself, Anakin thinks Padmé betrayed him, and Force-chokes her. So, like, again, the anger is understandable, the Force-choking is not. Not going to defend that.
    • As Obi-Wan and Anakin fight, Anakin says something extremely telling: “From my point of view, the Jedi are evil.” He isn’t lying. He isn’t even exaggerating. The Jedi have fucked him over at every turn. And the point that is being made here is that Anakin descends into madness because he, like the Jedi, lives at moral extremities. He goes mad and gives himself over to the Dark Side because the Jedi have thoroughly erased any possibility of a middle ground.
      • The utter distrust that the Jedi Council have of “Gray Jedi” and the fact that “Gray Jedi” means both people who walk the middle ground of the Force and people who don’t answer to the authority of the Jedi Council also point to this. We can see this with Jolee Bindo and Qui-Gon, among others. If you walk the middle line, the Jedi will turn their backs on you. (Pro tip: if nobody is allowed to disagree with you, you’re probably not the good guys.)
    • Aaaaaaaaand finally the whole fight ends and Anakin becomes a weird lava-deformed creature of the night and when he finally wakes up and asks Palpatine if Padmé is okay, Palpatine says, “It seems in your anger, you killed her.” So, Anakin at this point a) is consumed with self-hatred, b) has nothing to live for because all of his loved ones either hate him (Obi-Wan) or are dead (Padmé, theoretically), and c) feels like he has no way out of the horrifying mess he’s put himself in. And here the prequels end.

What I’m trying to say here is that the Jedi aren’t perfect, and they don’t always use the Force for good. (See: “slavery is cool, we guess.”) Their emphasis on shutting out your emotions is ultimately what drives Anakin to the Dark Side because they allow no room for mistakes and therefore erase the possibility of Anakin ever getting help. Or, you know, compassion, which is supposed to be the Jedi version of love. So… The Sith suck. But the Jedi also suck. Not as much, for sure, but they are definitely guilty of some real fucked up things.

Now for the fun part!!!!! Rey, in Ep. VII, wins her battle against Kylo when she gets pissed. You can also see in that scene that when he’s overpowering her, you can see both the red and blue light reflected in her eyes, and when she closes her eyes and thinks “use the Force” and opens her eyes again, you only see the red.

What that piece said to me, and what this trailer and the poster say to me, is that “balancing the Force” means recognizing that emotions are not evil unto themselves, that you can love people and use that love to fuel goodness. Rey has the potential to balance the Force because she has already proven that she can harness emotion, be driven by emotion, and still use that for the Light Side.

Anyway, I fucking love Star Wars, meta is great, Rey can kick my ass any day, and if I’m right and these trailers are backing up my theory I am literally going to lose my mind.

Also....I have one more. What about assassin andrew being sent to kill neil but falls in love instead au ❤❤❤

Mostly, Andrew Minyard slits his marks’ throats. One clean slice on the side, a severed carotid artery, blood flow to the brain cut off. A quick death. Not out of mercy, but out of necessity—cutting major veins is too messy, and severing a windpipe is too slow.

So Andrew Minyard goes for the carotid arteries. Mostly.

Neil turns to the next page in the folder. Some of Minyard’s earlier victims were strangled to death. A few have been shot, though likely as a last resort—police reports mention signs of a struggle, bullets in the back of the head like they were trying to get away.

Well, “victims” is a subjective term. Implies faultlessness. Innocence. Andrew Minyard’s victims are never faultless or innocent. Before the Moriyamas hired him, Andrew Minyard operated like a vicious Robin Hood, or a Batman-for-pay, taking relatively small fees to rid real victims of their abusers.

And now he’s after Neil.

Loving the text messages!! Keep up the good work! Also if you don't mind could you describe darks and antis personalities according to you?

Absolutely!!! Beware though, I’m about to wax poetic because I LOVE these two characters. I’m sorry that this post is so long but I’m NOT putting it under a cut because I worked on this for over a fucking hour instead of writing my history paper and I want at least one person to actually read it. :P

I’m gonna go a little in depth with what I believe is their canon personalities according to my interpretation and then how I incorporate those interpretations into Texts From Dark And Anti. Some of you may be surprised to find that I actually heavily take their canonical personalities into account when I make my edits; it’s not all just dick jokes and memes for the sake of notes. Texts From Dark And Anti is my love letter to these two characters, and I’ve gone to great lengths to portray them in the best way possible.

But enough babbling. Let’s start with Dark.

CANON PERSONALITY: Master Manipulator and Sexual Predator

Per Mark, Dark is a master manipulator. He’s a snake in the grass, ready to tell you anything and everything you need to hear in order to get what he wants from you.

I’d argue that this often works for him. Obviously he’s a very good actor if he’s able to mimic Mark perfectly in the “Chocolate” ending, so that makes me think that he’s able to assume whatever personality and/or extend whatever favors he needs to to trick his victims into abiding by him.

But it’s also worth mentioning that Dark’s biggest weakness (arguably) is his jealousy. As Mark said, Dark’s extremely jealous of Mark, and he wants everything that Mark has: wealth, fame, success, and devoted fans. I’d be willing to believe that that last thing is what rubs Dark wrong the most.

Evidence? Mark’s fans are exactly what he goes after. Wanna know what’s freakier? IT FUCKING WORKED.

Mark took all of his fans out on a date. All of us adored him for it. Dark got jealous of this, so he infiltrated the date and tried to get us to support him instead. And when Tyler Mark showed up to fight him, Dark didn’t kill him himself. He manipulated us into doing it for him.

And what brings this home is that Dark has had the longest lasting potential out of anything to come out of this video. All of the other memes and references have lost their luster by now, but the resurgence of Dark-related fan art, ask/rp blogs, edits, and memes are still going strong. Dark infiltrated our date and convinced us to love him and worship him the same way that we do Mark, and we fucking fell for it.

So why does he do this? Is it just because he’s a jealous prick? Partially, but I think that, canonically, there’s more to it. I think it’s because he thrives on his ability to hold power over people, which is comparable to–get ready for it–sexual predators.

Dark exhibits a lot of the traits we normally attribute to these criminals. He’s attractive, charismatic, extremely manipulative, and sadistic. He says things like, “I can give you anything,” and, “If it’s dinner you want, I can provide.” Provide is an interesting word choice here, because that’s what society has dictated the man in a relationship should do. He even acts seductive: arching his neck, eye-fucking the camera, and he even blows us a kiss (see below). But the way that he grabs and shakes us periodically throughout his mental breakdown betrays his inner sadism and anger issues, also common among sexual predators. I absolutely think that based on Dark’s behavior and what we know about him, he’s totally down to fuck anyone and everyone in order to get what he wants–consensual or otherwise. And I definitely think he’ll enjoy it.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that Dark is a nymphomaniac. As an otherworldly being, it’s entirely possible he doesn’t even have a sex drive. But sexual predators don’t usually rape their victims just to get their dicks wet. Usually, it’s a power issue; they want to feel like they have mastery over something, and that they are dominant and in control. Given Dark’s obsession with taking all of Mark’s glory away from him, coupled with his violent mood swings and sadism, I would say that sexual assault is probably just one of the many ways he appeases his insatiable appetite for power and manipulation. And I’d even bet that it’s one of his go-to’s.

In Texts From Dark And Anti, I normally portray Dark as a bitter old demon who doesn’t understand memes and doesn’t want to put up with anybody’s shit. But I didn’t just do this for fun; I did it because I could see Dark being jaded in real life. Off-camera, when he’s not trying to seduce us into adoring him over Mark, I could see him being sick of being overlooked. He’s old, even by Mark’s channel’s standards, and up until “A Date With Markiplier”, he wasn’t mainstream in the fandom at all–not fun for someone who craves the adoration of others. So he’d definitely be off-put by Anti’s much younger, more erratic personality, and in a bad mood he’d bitch at him for it. But in a good mood, he’d use it to his advantage to get whatever he wants–sex, souls, and anything else his blackened heart desires, both for the reward and the thrill of not having to do it himself.

Now let’s talk about Anti.

CANON PERSONALITY: Chaotic Psychopath

Jack has been near-silent on his personal interpretation of Anti (although he’s stated that he definitely has a personal canon that he refuses to share, the little fucker), so all of this is going to come from speculation and what we see onscreen.

While Dark chose to make his debut in one long, continuous, elegant appearance, Anti showed up randomly throughout the month of October, with no prelude and no explanation as to why he was there. Also in contrast to Dark’s smooth, charismatic personality, Anti is visibly unstable, jittery, and psychotic. Both he and Dark exhibit bloodlust, but Anti doesn’t hide it. He doesn’t hold back any of his sociopathic tendencies, going so far as to murder his host on camera for the world to see.

We don’t exactly know what Anti’s agenda is, but that’s just it: I don’t think he has one. At least, not one beyond the psychotic urge to kill as much and as many people as he can. Even in “Say Goodbye”, all he does is laugh at/condemn the viewer for not warning Jack and saving him. The other times he was on camera in October, he was glitchy, with several different appearances (fangs, gauges, blood, etc.) and contorted, unsettling body movements, making me think that Anti is a supernatural being that thrives on chaos and bloodshed.

But  Anti doesn’t just want to cause havoc–he wants to cause havoc and get the credit he deserves for it. That’s why he showed up so much on camera without Jack noticing; he was there for us, not him. Then he made a big deal about us not telling Jack what was going on, condemning us for our failure to make his existence well-known. Then he crashed Jack’s panel at PAX, angry at us for “forgetting” him. He’s not trying to garner our support like Dark is; if anything, he wants us to be terrified of him.

But personally, if I had to choose between being locked in a room with Dark and being locked in a room with Anti, I’d choose Anti in a heartbeat. Because even though Anti is more obviously psychotic, at least I’d know I would be killed quickly–unlike Dark, who would torture and manipulate me verbally, physically, and possibly even sexually for an indeterminate amount of time. This is Anti’s downfall, I think; Dark disguises his true nature with seduction and charisma, but because Anti’s so unpredictable and surface-level, he identifies himself as a very obvious threat, ironically making him a little easier to understand.

Thus, my interpretation of him in Texts From Dark And Anti reflects this (albeit in a more comedic way). Anti loves memes and silly trends because he wants to stick out in a way that’ll gain recognition. He’s more up-to-date with Internet trends and slang because he’s much younger than Dark–but that also means that he’s more gullible, and a lot of simple things go over his head. Basically all of his emotions are double that of Dark’s, and he makes no efforts to disguise them. He’s also much more privvy to senseless murder than Dark. This speaks highly of his psychotic tendencies and general disregard for any order or secrets he could be bothering to keep. What you see of Anti is what you get: an easily-excitable, always-ready-to-fuck-shit-up killing machine.

So…yeah. That’s pretty much my piece. Told you it’d be long. X’D

But tysm for asking!! And if any of you bothered reading this far, PLEASE reblog or leave a reply with your thoughts on my interpretation of these two characters and how you characterize them personally. I’m super crazy interested in the lore around these two (or lack thereof), which is why I created Texts From Dark And Anti in the first place. ^_^

Sherlock was at his seat, with his blue eyes glued to his phone. (Y/N) was sitting at the victim’s chair, with her laptop on and doing some research. John was at his seat, staring awkwardly at the two of them.

“So…” John spoke, “You’re fine?”

“Yes.” Sherlock and (Y/N) replied in unison.

“No tension or anything?” John continued.

“Nope.” (Y/N) popped the last syllable.

“Oh, that’s great.” John nodded.

“I don’t get why the killer would tie them.” Sherlock complained, “He had them right there, why would he tie them? Did they try to run away?”

(Y/N) giggled and Sherlock snapped his head to look at her. With a cocked eyebrow, he silently asked her for an explanation.

“You really don’t know what fetishes are, do you?” She inquired playfully.

“It’s a sexual fixation… What does this have to do with the killer?” Sherlock fumed.

“The killer is a kinky bastard.” Watson stated and (Y/N) nodded in agreement.

“It doesn’t make any sense!” Sherlock roared, dropping his phone to the coffee table and throwing his hand up.

“It also didn’t make any sense to you that someone could be aroused by…”

“SHUT UP!” Sherlock commanded and stormed to his room without allowing neither (Y/N) or John to argue back.

Okay but how about Maggie trying to calm down Alex after the thing with mon el

Come over.

That’s all the text says.

That’s all it says, and that’s all she’s heard from Alex all day, which is unusual, but she’s not surprised.

Not surprised today, because today was her dad’s first day back in the DEO.

Today was all about Jeremiah, all about Alex, and Maggie is alright with that.

Of course she is.

But when she gets her text – her simple text – she rushes.

She knocks, because she could let herself in, but today was bound to be emotional, and today was bound to be hard.

She’s surprised when Alex just says “yeah.”

When the door is unlocked.

Because Alex Danvers never leaves her door unlocked.

But Maggie doesn’t know – not yet, not yet – that Alex texted Maggie and drank her way through a quarter bottle of liquor, straight.

Maggie doesn’t know – not yet, not yet – that Alex left the door unlocked because she trusted Maggie to rush. And she didn’t trust her legs to be able to get her to the door smoothly by the time Maggie gets there.

”Hey,” she offers as she steps inside, locking the door softly behind her because she knows Alex feels better that way. Hell, she feels better that way.

Alex doesn’t turn toward her, and part of Maggie relishes the trust they’ve built in just a few months. The other part of her stomach sinks as she walks around to try to get a look at her girlfriend’s face.

The other part of her stomach sinks as she sees the liquor bottle that she happens to know was much, much more full this morning.

”What’s wrong?”

Alex says nothing, and Maggie braces herself on the counter with a shaky hand.

“How was your dad’s first day?” she asks, her voice soft, her voice nervous, her voice just this side of apologetic.

Alex answers by draining her drink – draining it long and hard and completely – and Maggie’s eyes watch the way Alex’s hands are oh so slightly unsteady, the way her eyes are oh so slightly unfocused.

The way her eyes have been refusing to meet hers this entire time.

“That good, huh?”

She shifts onto the stool in front of Alex, grateful for the way Alex responds to her touch on her calf, the way she automatically moves her foot so Maggie can sit down.

Grateful, at least, that Alex seems to want her there. Seems to accept needing her there.

Even if she won’t speak.

Even if she won’t look at her.

She goes to pour herself another, and Maggie’s heart clenches.

”Whoa whoa whoa, okay. Hold on.” She guides Alex’s hands away from the bottle and Alex just retreats into herself, looking for all the world like a small scolded child, in that little grey hoodie, shoulders rounded, arms limp, body as tiny as she can make it without actually scrunching up.

It breaks Maggie’s heart. But not, she knows, as much as Alex’s heart must be breaking.

”Hey,” she says, and Alex still won’t look up. Maggie touches her arm softly, softly. “I’m here. Okay? You can tell me anything.”

Alex nods, but she still won’t look up, and Maggie’s left hand reaches for her, almost of its own accord, and her index finger settles gently, tenderly, softly, under Alex’s chin.

”Hey, look at me.”

Alex does, and there is nothing but raw defeat in her eyes. Raw pain. Raw agony. Raw torture.

It stops Maggie’s breath, and she tilts her head to keep herself together. Tilts her head to keep her eyes soft, her breathing regular. Because she needed Alex on Valentine’s Day and Alex had held her and listened to her and soothed her all night long.

And tonight is Alex’s Valentine’s Day.

Fathers. Fathers. Fathers.

”What happened with your dad?”

Her voice is soft and her eyes are earnest and Alex takes a shuddering breath in, and Maggie’s heart breaks more than it is already broken.

Alex’s lips tremble and she glances up at Maggie’s eyes, on her own for the first time since she walked in, and Maggie knows.

Knows that her eyes are her words, right now, and that’s all she needs.

She stands and she pulls her close.

”Oh, sweetie. Oh.” She pulls Alex’s face into her chest, draws her back into her body, settles the side of her face onto Alex’s hair, and soothes her, soothes her, holds her, as she starts to cry.

As she starts to sob.

No.

As she starts to weep.

The first two shuddering breaths she takes, Maggie thinks her heart might burst from the pain of it.

And then her voice catches in her tears, catches in her growing hysteria, and Maggie turns her face more toward her, expressionless, expressionless, because her own heart, now, is numb. Because if she allows herself to feel the pain, the rage, the agony, of hearing Alex Danvers, feeling Alex Danvers, come completely apart like that in her arms, she would be the one unraveling.

And her baby needs her. Her sweetheart needs her.

She’s grateful when Alex grabs onto her, more than just a hand on her arm, but her other arm wrapped completely around Maggie’s back and grabbing at her shirt.

Grabbing at her shirt like her grasp and her grasp alone can keep Maggie holding her, can keep Maggie close, can keep Maggie from disappearing.

But she needn’t worry, because Maggie wouldn’t leave her right now, or ever. Not even with the most powerful forces on earth standing against her. Not even with all of Cadmus’s worst weapons trained at her head –

“I…” Alex is gasping, but it comes out like a yelp, like a scream, like a plea, and Maggie kisses her hair and rubs her back.

”I’m here, sweetie, I’m here, shhhh, breathe, Ally. Breathe, breathe, breathe.”

Alex gasps again, yelps again, and Maggie’s face remains motionless.

She swears to herself will murder Lilian Luthor for what she’s done to Alex the first chance she gets, Kara’s feelings for her daughter be damned.

”I coul – I couldn’t kill him, Maggie, I couldn’t… I couldn’t kill him,” she’s gasping, she’s pleading, she’s praying, she’s begging, and Maggie kisses her hair again, again, again, rocks her slightly, holds her face close into her chest.

She doesn’t tell her that she doesn’t understand, doesn’t tell her to slow down and start from the beginning, doesn’t tell her to regulate herself.

Because she loves her, loves her, loves her, and it doesn’t matter if she has all the pieces to the Jeremiah Danvers puzzle just yet: all that matters is that she holds the pieces of his broken daughter together, safe, loved, with her bare hands.

”Of course you couldn’t, Ally, he’s your dad. He’s your dad, he’s still your dad,” she whispers, because she doesn’t know, but she can imagine, and her vow to destroy Lilian grows that much stronger.

”He said…” She’s gasping again, and Maggie nods as she rubs her back and kisses her damp forehead, because Alex’s entire body is shuddering with agony, and Maggie is so proud of her girl for letting it out.

So grateful that she trusts her enough to cry to her like about Jeremiah the way Maggie had cried about her own father.

Fathers. Fathers. Fathers.

”He said he was doing it for me. Betrayed everyone I… I love… for me.”

Maggie’s heart breaks, because she knows Alex.

She pulls back and Alex grabs at her desperately, and Maggie gives her a small, broken smile. “I’m not going anywhere, Al, but look at me.” Alex won’t, and Maggie lifts her chin again tenderly, softly, lovingly.

Alex’s eyes are beautiful, even swimming in torture, even swollen with tears, even red with agony.

”Hi,” Maggie whispers, and the ghost of a smile dances across Alex’s features.

”Alex, whatever he’s done – whatever he’s doing – it is not your fault. It’s not your fault that he started in the first place, and it’s not your fault that you let him go.”

Alex scoffs and tries to reach for the bottle again, but Maggie brings her hands to her lips instead, and kisses each knuckle in turn as Alex watches, as Alex cries silently.

”You are an incredible, powerful, brave, smart woman, Alex. You know – you know – that this isn’t your fault. That none of this is on you. You know what the brave thing was, Alex? Not pulling that trigger. The brave thing was compassion. The brave thing was empathy. The brave thing was looking out for your soul, because you never would have forgiven yourself if you killed him, Alex, and you don’t deserve to live with that. The brave thing was trusting the people you love – the people he betrayed – to fix this. With you. As a team. What is it Kara’s symbol means, stronger together, right? The brave thing was trusting that, Ally. Trusting the people who love you best.”

She pauses and she watches the hope growing in Alex’s eyes, watches the self-loathing seep out of her shoulders, out of her jawline.

She has never been in love like this.

”Trusting me,” she adds in a voice so small she barely hears herself say it.But Alex hears it. She hears it and her eyes widen and her breath pauses and her lips part slightly.

“I do,” she whispers back, her voice raspy with tears. “Trust you.”

Maggie stares at her, trying to read her eyes, trying to read if the word trust is, right now, a substitute for something else. Something like love.

“I trust you, too, Alex.” Another long pause, and Maggie swears Alex is trying to figure out the same thing she is.

“We’re going to fix this. Together. You and me and Kara and J’onn and James and Winn. You have people who love you, Alex, to the ends of the earth and so far beyond. I promise you, we’re going to fix this.”

“I don’t deserve you,” Alex murmurs, leaning forward to rest her head again on Maggie’s chest.

“You deserve everything wonderful and nothing less, Alex Danvers. I promise you that.”

Alex sighs and snuggle closer into her, and warmth courses through Maggie’s boiling veins.

“Stay tonight?” Alex pleads into her shirt softly, softly, softly.

“I’m here, Ally. Always.”

Finn rant

Okay, here goes. I wanted to take the time to summarize everything that I hate about the Star Wars fandom and it’s treatment of Finn. This is all stuff that has annoyed and in some cases offended me that I’ve had to look at for well over  a year since joining this fandom. This is also everything that I’ve felt like I had to keep my mouth shut about because it seems like most people in the Star Wars fandom have no problem whatsoever with.

If you disagree with me, that’s great, and feel free to message me why. If you feel offended, then unfollow me, because that’s what I’ve been trying to do for over a year.

SEXIST ONE-SHOT?

So the other day, a dear friend of mine told me that the finnreyfridays one-shot we were working on was sexist. Like actually sexist. Do you know why they told me it was sexist? Allow me to answer the question for you.

They told me it was sexist because the plot included Finn saving Rey. That’s why. I didn’t turn Rey into a helpless damsel-in-distress, I didn’t write Rey as a slutty scavenger who flirts with every guy she sees.

I wrote Rey as a skilled Jedi who was ambushed by Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren on a mission, and simply needed help. That’s it. It’s not an unrealistic situation at all, and Rey still got the upper hand on Kylo Ren. She was in danger and outnumbered, and Finn showed up and helped her.

And it’s became very clear to me that it offended my friend for one reason. That reason was that by simply because my having Finn rescue Rey, I apparently shattered Rey’s character and turned her into a helpless damsel-in-distress….

A few weeks ago there was photoset made by @shropshiregirl79 for finnreyfridays. It was a daily planet au with Finn as superman and Rey as Lois Lane. One of the pictures showed Rey in danger and Finn rescuing her, carrying her in his arms. Someone got mad about that and said they made Rey into a damsel-in-distress.

Another situation arose where someone posted artwork of Finn and Rey as an old-style movie, with Finn a detective pointing a gun at someone while Rey clung to him. Once again, someone got mad and said it turned Rey into a damsel-in-distress.

It’s become so taboo in this fandom just to have Finn saving, or even protecting Rey without people (probably white feminists) getting mad at it. Why is that? Is Finn’s only role only to be put in peril for Rey to rescue?

And if you’re one of the people who gets mad about that, let me ask you a question.
Would you be mad if it was Finn?

TROOPER IN DISTRESS

Here’s the deal. I joined the fandom well over a year ago. I can safely say I’ve read about

thirty to forty fics

where at some point,

Finn is inevitably captured or put in peril, and rescued by Rey or Poe.

I’ve seen

finnrey shippers

who supposedly love and appreciate Finn, joke around and call

Finn a damsel-in-distress (or trooper-in-distress)

and talk about how Rey does nothing but save him over and over, and everyone laughs and jokes about it.

I’ve read fics where on the off-chance that Finn does risk his life to save Rey, he gets criticized for it because he was being

RECKLESS and Rey HAD IT UNDER CONTROL. Seriously? Finn can’t even save Rey without it involving him being stupid or catching hell or it?

It’s always, “Finn why did you do that?! You could’ve died!” instead of “Wow Finn thank you for saving me, I’m glad you’re okay. That was pretty brave.”

But nope. Can’t even have that.

I’ve read fics where Finn is flat out tied up and gagged.

I’ve read a fics where Finn is captured, beaten, stripped down and hosed and left in a cell shivering in the corner helpless, wishing that Rey or Poe was there to save him (but it’s okay because ta-da they come to his rescue).

I’ve read a fic where the entire thing was just worshiping Rey. Literally. It’s Poe’s pov during a battle, and Finn is basically getting beat up and dragged away by stormtroopers, by the way that’s his entire role in the fic, just to get his ass kicked. He doesn’t do anything else.
So Finn’s getting beat up, and the rest of the fic is Poe being completely ENAMORED left in AWE by Rey’s amazing flawless skills fighting through the stormtroopers and kicking ass left and right and looking SOOO beautiful and graceful with her lightsaber and she rescues Finn and Poe thanks her and thanks her over and over again.

That’s the entire fic. Kissing Rey’s ass and kicking Finn’s. And guess what? The readers ate that shit up. They loved it.

So let me sum it up again. Finn can get beat up by stormtroopers, captured thousands of times, stripped, tortured, hosed down, and left shivering in a corner basically crying for Poe and Rey like bait, and people say that they appreciate Finn’s character for this? This is okay to everyone?

Yet if I write a one shot where Rey is outnumbered, defeats Kylo Ren but is then outnumbered and Finn comes to save her, then I’m destroying Rey’s character? Then I don’t appreciate her character? Then the entire one-shot is sexist garbage based on turning Rey into a damsel in distress?

Apparently so. Thanks fandom.

Again, I’ve been putting up with this for over a year, and it took a lot of time for me to actually muster up the courage to rant about it. If this offends you, you’re probably apart of the problem.

Finnamon Roll?

Okay, another major trend I’m sick of is the constant EMASCULATION OF FINN.
Let me sum up Finn’s character.  He suffers from trauma. He was taken away as a baby and raised to be a ruthless killing machine. He endured 20+ years of brainwashing, propaganda, and conditioning. He had no friends whatsoever (SLIP WAS NOT HIS FRIEND). He was the best stormtrooper cadet in his unit. He almost never missed a shot with a blaster. He was an outcast, and constantly criticized for having a heart.

In TFA, he suffers from trauma, is still an expert shot with a blaster, rescues Poe, keeps Rey from getting shot by stormtroopers, makes a tough decision to leave Rey because he knows what the First Order is capable of, and even begs her to come with him. He comes right back into the fight after seeing Hosnian Prime get destroyed, and is witnesses Rey get kidnapped by his worst nightmare.
What does he do? He decides to help the Resistance, gives them vital information that only HE knew, volunteers to go to SKB. Captures Phasma and forces her at gunpoint to lower the shields, helps Rey escape from SKB, witnesses Han’s murder, watches Rey get slammed into a tree, before making the final decision to stand up to his worst nightmare, knowing he might die just to protect Rey. His last line in the entire movie is “Come get it.”

After summarizing his character, how come all I see on tumblr is “awwwwww look at my cute smol wittle Finny. He’s so harmless and adorable!!!” Like…excuse me? Is that all tumblr was able to get from that movie? So let me get this straight. Because Finn isn’t a cold-blooded murderer, he’s suddenly nothing but a squishy pile of hearts and flowers and sugar  who couldn’t hurt a fly? Really?

How come in most highschool aus, Finn’s portrayed as an overly-meek or powerless nerd? If anything, Finn would probably be a pretty strong guy who gets straight As and stands up for his friends no matter what. But that doesn’t mean he’s a bully either.

This is what the fandom does with his character, instead of exploring the endless possibilities with his backstory and trauma. AND on the off-chance that someone writes an actual Finn-centric fic based on his backstory, it’s always just Finn and his stormtrooper buddies having a romance or exploring sex for some reason. We can’t even have a Finn story without it circulating around people he knows. It’s always about someone else at the end of the day.

What’s heartbreaking is that most of the things I’m complaining about happens in the stormpilot and finnrey ships (this is where I expect people to unfollow me). Like come on guys. I could see r/eylos doing this, but not you guys. You’re so much better than that.

Space Prince Finn (More Emasculation)

Look, when I first heard the idea of Finn being a lost Prince, I was stoked. I was blown away. My reaction was,”Finally! This fandom’s actually given Finn something of his own! He could be royalty! How dope would that be!”

But…of course, this fandom has to take that amazing concept and uh…

Well, we ruined that too. We basically turn Finn into a jewelry stand, and a makeup model. Of course, I’m not saying men can’t wear what they want. If a man wants to wear makeup or wear jewelry, that’s completely fine and I encourage that. But here’s the issue.

We constantly idolize Princess Leia and Queen/Senator Amidala because they are figures of royalty who can fight and take care of themselves, as well as look badass while they do it.

So why is it that when we have Prince Finn, he’s once again, emasculated, put in dresses and given nail polish, lipstick, doused in glitter, and turned into a damsel-in-distress who not only needs constant rescue once again, but this time needs Rey/Poe as a bodyguard to protect him?

It’s a double standard. I’m sorry but you can’t praise Leia and Padme for being badass royals who don’t need protection, and turn around and make Finn the opposite.

And again, it’s something that the fandom eats up for some reason. We’ll shun the Hutt-Slayer bikini (rightfully so. it’s disgusting), make it a point to make fun of the hutt-slayer bikini and constantly criticize it, yet draw Finn in it and everyone thinks it’s cute and hilarious. This is the shit that I’m sick of.

Look at T’Challa, otherwise known as Black Panther. He is royalty, but he’s also very powerful, knows how to fight, is an amazing fighter, and is taken seriously. Very seriously. He is strong, brave, serious, and intimidating, yet he’s not a bully or a stereotype.

THIS. THIS is what I expected Prince Finn to be. This is what Prince Finn would be if it were canon. He’d be a strong leader, handsome, noble, powerful, and intimidating. And he wouldn’t need constant protection from Rey and/or Poe. Especially not this constant emasculation and woobifying.

We live in a day and age where Princesses are being portrayed as stronger and stronger, and are told that they can rescue themselves. So why is Finn being treated the opposite? Why is Finn being treated like he’s just there to look pretty for commissions and make out with Poe? Why does he need all-powerful Rey to always protect him? Why can’t he be taken more seriously?

I want you to think about this.

Deactivating

Okay. This was a lot to cover, and it’s something that’s been nagging at me for a while now. Look. I look up to Finn. I really do. He’s my hero. He’s the first main black lead in Star Wars, and that means the world to me. I want to see him grow and be appreciate and given an epic role moving forward, and I feel like the Star Wars fandom isn’t the place I’m going to find any of that.

Not a day goes by where I’m not tempted to deactivate and walk away from the fandom entirely. There’s just too much shit Finn is put through that drives me insane. There’s too many things that I look at or read that make me feel like this fandom will never actually appreciate Finn the way the he deserves to be appreciated. Even the people who say that they love Finn tend to do this.

So I wanted to write this rant in case I ever deactivate because of this fandom. Just so you, the readers, can know why.

Thanks for reading. Means a lot. If you’re still wondering when the One-Shot is coming out, probably next week. I have to finish it on my own.

Request: could you please write a siriusxreader where he and james have the habit to take the cloak and stay up late in the commom room making bets about the couples making out and one night they caught their best friend, the reader, making out with a guy and she heard them and leave with the guy to her dorm and sirius stops talking to her and you can finish how you want?

“Guess we’ll have a boring night.” – Sirius said, sitting under the invisibility cloak with James. – “I can’t believe there’s not a single…” – But he stopped suddenly, when the portrait hole just opened up. He almost jumped up to greet Y/N, but then he saw a guy behind her, hand in hand, leading him into the common room.

“That was close.” – He breathed out as they plopped down on the couch. – “I thought Filch is going to murder us.”

“No, he’d prefer to torture us first, haven’t you heard that from him before?” – She giggled and rolled her eyes.

Rhys leaned closer and put his hand on her thigh. “Well, usually I’m not getting into any troubles… like you.”

“I don’t know what are you talking about.” – She replied with her most innocent face, looking up at him before he pressed his lips against hers, kissing her so passionately and deeply she had to lean back on the couch immediately.

Meanwhile, Sirius’ heart was beating in his ears and felt he could just go and rip the bloke apart – but more and more he saw he just really wanted to leave. He couldn’t watch this anymore. “I want to go.” – He almost jumped up, but James grabbed his arm, pulling him back to the ground just in time, while he was still under the cloak.

“What was that?” – Y/N asked suddenly, breaking the kiss while Rhys rested his hand under her skirt.

“I haven’t heard anything.” – He said quickly, in the attempt to continue what he started. A few seconds later she heard something again – and now she was sure. James and Sirius doing that again.

Anger filled her immediately; she always told them it’s a terrible thing to do, but knowing that her best friends sneaking up on her to…

She jumped up suddenly, taking the boy’s hand. “Come to my dorm. It’s more private there, you know.” – She said loudly, glancing on the corner where she heard the noises before. Rhys shot a half grin at her before they both left.

“It’s nice to actually see you!” – Y/N yelled after she arrived to the Great Hall, sitting down next to Sirius. James looked at her almost scared, knowing she’d easily hex him. – “You really are both huge prats, you know that?”

“Sorry! We didn’t know you had a date.” – James said desperately.

She looked at him across the table with a furious face. “You shouldn’t do this at all! There’s privacy, you know!” – She said loudly, trying to not shout. – “And what if I wouldn’t hear you? Then you just sit there, watching me having sex on the couch with Rhys?”

Sirius shifted in his chair, but still stayed in silence.

“No! We usually leave when that part comes.” – James said in a low voice, causing her to roll her eyes. – “Look, I’m really sorry.”

She sighed, shaking her head before she turned to Sirius. “And you have nothing to say?”

“Not really.” – He answered shortly, now even bothering to look into her eyes before he stood up, grabbed her backpack and left the Great Hall. Y/N was so shocked she couldn’t even speak for a long minute.

“What’s gotten into him?” – She asked James, but he just shrugged, looking at his plate, carefully avoiding her gaze. She shrugged too; she get used to Sirius’ mood swings by now. Besides, she was still angry with the boys for what they did.

But hours passed and he didn’t talk to her. He didn’t even sit next to her at classes, when she asked something he didn’t even hear – or just acted like he haven’t. At the end of the day, after dinner, she stopped him in front of the Fat Lady, not bearing his strange and annoying behaviour anymore.

“Sirius, what is wrong with you?”

“Nothing.” – He said, ready to leave her, but she grabbed his arm.

“Really? Because it seems to me you’re angry with me since this morning. Or yesterday night.”

The memory made him angry immediately. “Well, sorry, it wasn’t a pleasant sight for my eyes to see your sweet Rhys running his hands all over you.”

She closed her eyes and shook her head, trying to understand the situation. “Why is that bothering you, actually?”

“It isn’t! I just… I thought you’re not one of those girls.”

Her eyes widened in anger. “One of those girls?! You mean like those girls whom you like so much, right? Those who let you in your bed so easily? Because I don’t remember I’ve ever heard you complain about them.” – Sirius opened his mouth, but she continued quickly. – “And I’ve never complained either about them.”

“That’s completely different! And why would you complain? It’s none of your business.”

Her jaw dropped. “Do you even hear yourself?” Yes, that’s not my business, just as it isn’t yours what I do with other guys!” – She shouted, causing several paintings to hiss at them. – “Or you’re the only one who can sleep around?  Using girls to make yourself better and forget about bad things? To feel yourself not so lonely sometimes?”

As she stopped and Sirius’ eyes darkened, she knew she crossed a line, but before she could’ve said something, he spoke up in a low voice. “Fuck you, Y/N. Oh, I forget somebody already done that.” – He said before he left, stepping through the portrait hole. She went after him, seriously considering to curse or hex him from behind, or at least shouting something to him, but by the time she was inside, Sirius was out of her sight.

She plopped down next to James, tears choking her and face red from the anger. “What happened?” – James asked, eyebrows furrowed.

She took several deep breaths before she could speak without crying. “Your friend angry with me, because… I don’t even know! He’s an idiot.”

James exhaled slowly. “You seriously don’t know why he’s angry with you?”

“Well, he’s because he thinks I slept with Rhys. But other than that… it’s none of his business. He shouldn’t be angry with me because of that!”

“Yes, but… wait, did you say he thinks? So you didn’t… you know.”

Y/N shot an angry look at him. “Not like it matters, but no. I was too angry after I realized you saw me.” – And I like someone else anyway, she thought.

“And what the guy said?”

She shrugged. – “He was furious and left. He was an asshole, actually.”

James adjusted his glasses and sat closer to Y/N. “Listen. You should talk to Sirius.”

“Sure, I will! After he apologized.” – She remembered something then, and after she ran her fingers through her hair, she sighed. – “But that’s probably not going to happen. I said ugly things to him too.”

“I’m sure you can…” – He started, but she cut him off.

“But he started this! It was his fault, right?”

“Talk to him.” – James said slowly.

“After he apologized.” – Y/N said again, leaving her friend on the common room who rolled his eyes at her. She knew, very well that Sirius too proud and stubborn to say sorry first. The only problem is that she was the same.

And they managed to spend four days without talking each other. It was only sarcastic comments or judging looks and short, sad glances when the other hasn’t noticed.

Until they went to Hogsmeade together and the other left them alone at a table; James, Remus and Peter went to another round of butterbeer while Lily and Marlene went to the loo, but curiously, none of them returned.

After ten minutes of awkward silence Sirius emptied his glass and jumped up. “I go and kill them.”

But Y/N grabbed his arm. “Can’t we talk?” – She had no idea why she said this, maybe the firewhisky, maybe the last four days were too much without him, but she wanted to talk. Sirius looked down at her for a long moment before he slowly sat back down, said nothing, but watching her carefully. – “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said… what I said.”

He just nodded slowly, so she quickly folded her arms and raised her voice. – “But I’m still angry with you, you know. You were…”

“An asshole, yes, I know.” – He leaned back on his chair and took a deep breath. – “I’m sorry for sneaking up on you and for everything I said after that. I… it’s really not my business what are you doing.” – He only looked into her eyes at the end, and she could see the honest regret and sadness in the depth of his pupils. But she only nodded as well.

“So are you and Robbie or Rick or something still dating?” – Sirius asked, avoiding he gaze again, looking into his empty glass.

She sighed. “No. We haven’t… nothing happened.”

“Oh.” – He said in surprise. – “Why? I mean… only if you wanna talk about it.” – He added quickly, seeing a flick of anger on her again.

She looked into his eyes for a long moment. Mostly because of you, she was thinking, but just shrugged. “It doesn’t matter.”

“But he didn’t hurt you, did he? I just learnt a new hex and I’d gladly test on him.”

She laughed. “There’s no need for that.”

Seeing her laughing reminded him why he was so furious on that night in the common room. “I really am sorry, Y/N.”

“It’s fine. But I still don’t understand why you were so angry with me.”

“Because…” – He stopped for a second, thinking about if he should lie or not, but the words escaped him before he could’ve think through properly. – “I like you.”

She raised her eyebrows. – “Well, I hoped that after long years of friendship you like me.”

And there was the perfect excuse; he could lie so easily, but this time he wasn’t able to do it. – “No, I mean… it’s a bit more than friendship… for my part. Or a lot more than that.”

Her lips parted and looked at him shocked before a short laugh burst out from her. “Are you serious?”

He narrowed his eyes. “I am Sirius, Y/N, but we talked about this.”

Her face was still amused, but her voice was low. “Why haven’t you… you know, asked me out?”

“Would you have said yes?” – He asked in disbelief.

“Yes.” – She laughed again, seeing his shocked reaction.

Sirius tilted his head back and growled before he looked back at her, staring for a few seconds. She was still grinning, and it made him smile too. “So, now that we cleared that we were both blinds and idiots, will you go out with me?”

She pouted, which turned into a smile soon. “I don’t know, you just called me an idiot.” – Sirius let out a tired sigh, so she continued. – “Of course I’ll go out with you, you dolt.”

Y/N could see a strange expression on his face, though it wasn’t bad, it was some kind of wonder. He sat closer to her and turned his voice down. “Can I kiss you?” – Her eyes widened after the question and fell silence. – “What? I mean, it’s okay if not…”

“No, just, I’d never in my wildest dream thought you’re the type who ask this question.”

“You see, me neither.” – He said, leaning closer with every sentence. – “I don’t think I’ve ever asked this.”

She giggled once more before closed the gap between them, pressing a soft and slow kiss on his lips.

“She didn’t say it.”, Steve answered simply without moving his eyes from the girl inside.

“What exactly happened?”, Tony was eager to get at least some information.

“Yeah, the son of Col didn’t say anything about bringing a girl here.”

There was silent for a minute and when Clint saw Steve wouldn’t tell anything due to being sunk deep in his thoughts again, he recounted the story.

After the girl had recognized the American hero – Captain America, she gave them a chance to speak why they were here and what were they exactly doing. Wanda was the one who had talked most maybe because she knew how the girl was feeling at that moment.

“We are not Hydra’s agents. I know you are scared, probably frightened to death, but we just want to help you. ”, Wanda had spoken softly.

“How did you find me?”

“We have some sources that let us know when someone is in danger. There’s nothing you can be suspicious of. Come with us, we will give you food, clothes…answers.”, Steve had succeeded in attracting her attention.

“I-”, the girl had been glancing at the faces of each hero standing in front of her seeing the pure sincerity in their eyes. She hardly had come with a decision.

“If you don’t like us or feel threatened you can go, but give us a chance. We won’t let you down, I promise.”, with those words spoken from the brown-haired witch, who the girl began liking since the beginning, the little witch had accepted their offer still slightly suspicious.

“Through the whole flight Wanda was the only one who talked with her. I think she is the one who the girl trusts.”, Clint noted as he finished the story.

“Can we trust her?”, Nat questioned, “I mean, she is powerful, that can be seen, but what if it’s a Hydra’s way to get in here and collect important information about us, S.H.I.E.L.D?”

“I do not think so.”, Peter finally interfered with the conversation. He, as Steve, hadn’t stopped looking at the girl they found alone in the deep woods hours ago, “If you had seen her face when we came…”, her (y/e/c), full with tears and at the same time with rage appeared in front of him, “I have no clue what they did to her but it’s definitely not good.”

“I have the same opinion. We know what Hydra can do to their experiments. I saw what they have done to Bucky. It won’t surprise me if she had gone through the same.”

“Mr. Stark, I found the girl.”, Jarvis’ voice sounded through the corridor they were all standing in.

“You made him check her?!”

“Of course, Clint. I want to know who is coming in the base.”, Tony declared and then spoken to Jarvis, “What did you find out?”

“It was hard given the fact that her face hasn’t been seen by any camera in the world since ten years ago. However, I managed to do my job. Her name is (Y/F/N) (Y/L/N). At the age of seven she was kidnapped from her parents as they were on a vacation in Russia. Strangely, it seems the parents weren’t that eager to find her. They ended the seeking after a year. ”

At the same time in the medical room, Bruce and Wanda were trying to understand more about (Y/N)’s conditional and powers.

“So you are a witch, too?”, (Y/n) asked as her eyes widened from happiness.

“Yes, (Y/n), I am, just like you.”

“How did you become? You were born with it or?”

“Sadly, my powers aren’t natural. I got them the same as you – Hydra gave them to me. ”, Wanda was sitting opposite the girl, while Bruce was doing his job, “Some years ago, me and my brother, Pietro, were taken my Hydra so they could do tests on us.”

“And what were they doing to you?”

“They used something like a scepter and did different things to examine our powers. That’s all I remember.”, Wanda gave a smile to this little girl who had probably went through the same as her.

“So your stay there was like a holiday in comparison with mine.”, the girl stated with a bitterness in her voice.

“Was it that bad?”, Bruce spoke for the first time since he came there to observe the girl, “We have seen what Hydra have done to some people, but-”

“But you can never imagine or feel what they did to me so don’t act as though you had a clue how they tortured me.”

“I-I am sorry, I didn’t mean to-”, Bruce began apologizing but the girl stopped him.

“I see you’re trying to make me feel comfortable and so on but there’s no need to exaggerate.”, the girl’s stomach groaned and she hurried to put her hands over it to silence the sound.

“How can I be so stupid?! We are here from hours and you haven’t eaten anything in days and we still haven’t given you water or something to eat. I’m coming in minutes.”, Wanda was almost out of the room when she turned around, “Do you want anything specific or whatever I bring?”

“Whatever you bring.”, the girl answered but Wanda had already used her powers to see what the girl longed for to eat.

Bruce and (Y/n) stayed in silence until the doctor decided to ruin it by asking a simple question.

“Do you know what powers you have?”

“No and I don’t even know how to control them.”

“We can befriend you to learn how to cope with them. ”, the girl was about to say something but Bruce hurried to finish, “I do know how hard it can be, if you’re wondering. I have some ‘angry issues’ as Stark tends to say. When I am angry I turn into a big green monster-”

“Hulk.”, (Y/n) stated calmly as she remembered a part of a conversation, she heard years ago.

“Yes, Hulk. If I do not control it, I would kill the people I love without having a clue or regretting about it.”

Seeing how hard it was for that man to cope with his behavior and the terrified expression that appeared on his face just because of the thought of murdering his friends was enough to show her that each one of the superheroes here had gone through so dreadful situations. It showed her that she wasn’t alone anymore and that she can trust them. They will help her to recover, to control and maybe give her the family she lost ten years ago.

“Will you teach me?”, a smile spread on Bruce’s face as he murmured a positive answer.

The door opened and Wanda entered holding a tray with food.

“I hope you don’t mind inviting the others.”, seven people followed the witch in the room.

“Hello.”, the girl gave them a small smile and wave.

“I am Natasha but you can call me Nat.”, a read-head woman spoke, “Here are some clean clothes you can put on after you -”, but before Natasha had finished her sentence the girl had attacked the food.

There was a huge burger with French fries and curry sauce. She took a big bite and barely managed to chew it before taking another one.

“Sorry, ju’t úngry .”

While (Y/n) was eating the heroes introduced themselves to her. She knew some of them given the fact they had ruined some of Hydra’s experiments and bases but not their personal names. She liked them all, maybe Tony was too cocky but she did like ‘em all.

“You’d probably want to rest and recover but I have to ask you some questions. Do you mind?”, Stark didn’t want to scare the girl but he did needed answers.

“Let her at least take a shower before overwhelming her with your queries.”, when Peter stated his opinion the girl looked at him with a thankful smile. He blushed a little but tried not to break an eye contact. Even in those ripped and dirty clothes, and the messy (y/h/c) he could see the beauty in her. Something in her eyes was pulling him closer. He wanted to understand what had happened to her, what had broken her in such a way and revenge.

“Peter, show her the bathroom. We will wait you in the living room.”, and with that the avengers exited the room leaving the two teenagers inside.

“So, Peter…”, the way (Y/n) pronounced his name, as thought tasting it, feeling how it would sound, created a strange feeling in Peter’s stomach, “Where can I clean myself?”, a smirked appeared on the girl’s face as she saw the blushing boy opposite her.

i don’t know about you guys, but i was in total awe of oswald’s character development in the last episode. the fact that he went from being completely selfish, hellbent on his own survival, to being willing to DIE for ed is just amazing?? like, i’m still not over it. he was willing to be tortured rather than betray ed, even after EVERYTHING ed admitted to. not only did ed try to kill him (in a very violent, painful, way) but ed admitted to leaving elijah’s remains in a dumpster. (i mean, i think that’s not true, but we all know ed treats corpses badly, so who knows??)

even babs was stunned at oswald’s love for ed. she looks at him like she can’t believe it, and she even has to repeat it back to him. “so you’d rather die than give up the man who tried to kill you?” because this is such a huge deal for oswald, and babs knows that.

oswald was more than willing to let butch shoot ed for “betraying” him in episode 5 (when ed took the money back from the voters). but now? oswald would rather die than see ed hurt, even after everything. i am still so fucking shook over that. it’s such a beautiful thing.

ANYWAY. @colfernygma‘s gifset (here) made me realise something. in season 1, oswald says that love is weakness (“your greatest passion becomes your greatest weakness”) which is an obvious parallel to what ed says in season 2 (”but for you and i, it [love] will always be our most crippling weakness”).

but oswald is now at a point where he doesn’t see love as a weakness. it’s his strength. he was willing to put someone else before himself, and he is now more emotionally “mature” than ed. if you squint, every time oswald talks to ed in episode 14, he’s basically trying to help ed see the truth – that ed does love him, that they need each other, that ed didn’t really love isabella.

he even corrects ed, at one point. ed says “i’ve killed before, oswald,” and oswald says “not like this”. okay, oswald’s making the point that ed loves him, which ed claims to not be true, but COME ON. ed is so obviously conflicted about shooting oswald, it’s not even worth going into here. (but for a beautiful, in-depth analysis of ed’s feelings on the shooting, check out @edngyma’s meta here!) oswald is the more emotionally mature of the two of them, even though ed’s the one in a position of power.

oswald is playing the martyr card really hard in this scene. he’s desperately trying to enlighten ed, to make him see the Truth – that he does love and need oswald. but edward nygma is in so much denial it’s literally tragic. he doesn’t want to see past his anger at what oswald did. he doesn’t want to entertain the possibility that he loves oswald, because he’s too blinded by his own pain at oswald’s betrayal. (again, further proof that oswald is more emotionally mature than ed at this point. oswald was able to see past ed’s betrayal, because he loves him.)

ever since the first season, oswald has been steps ahead of ed, narratively. when ed was a nerdy smol, working at the g.c.p.d., oswald was murdering his way up the criminal ladder. oswald was on his Villain Journey way before ed. oswald really took up the moniker of the penguin at the end of season 1, and ed hasn’t even been called the riddler yet.

and then, in season 2, ed was fanboying over oswald and wanted him to be his murder senpai, because ed was still behind oswald, narratively. ed has always been following oswald’s lead. since getting out of arkham, ed has even dressed like oswald. he’s always been playing catch up.

people have already paralleled ed shooting oswald to oswald pushing fish off the roof in the season 1 finale, so i’m gonna bring that up now. oswald had to kill fish, to fully blossom into a beautiful criminal kingpin in season 2. it was a case of the student becoming the teacher (with a dash of homicide).

oswald has always been ed’s teacher. ed asked to be oswald’s student in season 2. (“i brought you here, in part, because i was hoping you could guide me on this new path.”) and then, after getting out of arkham, oswald gave ed suits, and a home, and a position of power. though ed had become a murderer all by himself, he was still subordinate to oswald. he still looked up to oswald. he even says it (“i continue to be in awe of you oswald”).

in order to fully begin his riddler journey, ed needed to “kill” his mentor, as a symbolic way of letting him go and moving on without him. to edward, oswald has fulfilled his purpose as his teacher. ed has to assert his position as a Badass Villain (in the eyes of babs and tabs and butch) by killing his mentor. like oswald killing fish to show everyone that they shouldn’t mess him with, ed “killed” oswald to prove to the criminal underworld that he’s not someone to be trifled with.

to drag it back to my original point: oswald had already gone through a version of this arc. as with everything, it took ed longer to reach this narrative place. but now he has, and we all know he’s gonna go on to don the ridiculous green suit and bowler hat, and fully embrace the riddler aesthetic.

so, at some point, ed is going to have to come to realisation that love ISN’T a weakness, but a strength. in season 2, when he says “for you and i, it will always be our most crippling weakness”, he’s including oswald in that. “for BOTH OF US love is weakness”. but love is no longer a weakness for oswald. love is a strength.

now it’s ed’s turn to come to that realisation. oswald’s already TOLD him – “you need me, edward nygma. just as i need you. you cannot have one without the other.” oswald and ed are stronger as a team than they are apart. oswald knows this, but ed doesn’t. not yet, anyway.

it makes sense that oswald comes to the realisation that love is actually a strength before ed does. because oswald has always been ahead of ed. this is just a continuation of the pattern that ed and oswald always follow. oswald is, as always, steps ahead of ed.

A Study in Hypocrisy #2.6

Or why the Avengers’ relationship to Tony was unhealthy at best, Steve isn’t fit to be a leader, and why I’m Team Iron Man to the end.

WHY TONY’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE AVENGERS IS UNHEALTHY AT BEST

Tony’s relationship with the Avengers has always made me uncomfortable. For the longest time, I couldn’t put my finger on why exactly, but I’ll try to organize my thoughts in this series.

This post was getting far too long, so I decided to cut it into parts, one per Avenger.

WANDA

Let’s talk about Wanda.

Wanda, who chooses to join a known terrorist organization to get revenge over Tony in the stupidest plot ever, because, come on. If your parents are killed in a car accident, you’re not going to go kill the car manufacturer in revenge. It’s absurd. It’s insane. It makes no sense whatsoever

But she makes that choice. God only knows how many people she killed during her and Pietro’s time with HYDRA, but she obviously doesn’t give a damn. In fact, her revenge against Tony doesn’t seem to include actually causing him physical harm, but rather…killing as many innocent people over the world as she can? Otherwise, she could have, you know. Killed him at the beginning of Age of Ultron. Instead, she triggered the creation of Ultron, mentally raped and tortured people who’d already been through a shit-ton of trauma, and let loose a creature known to be uncontrollable and highly destructive on hapless civilians.

And she does. not. care.

Then, she realizes all of a sudden that, wait! Ultron wants to destroy the world I happen to be a part of. Does that mean I’ll die, too? It must! Nope, that won’t do. Let’s switch sides.

Then Clint goes and makes her an Avenger, without any consideration for Natasha, his friend and teammate, who had to relive her blood-drenched past, or Bruce, his teammate and friend, whom Wanda forced to massacre innocent civilians, or Tony, his teammate and supposed friend, who went through a hellish vision. Clint, who has experienced mind-control and its consequences before, just welcomes a proven disloyal, murderous witch into the team all on his own. As if all was forgiven and the lives she’d taken didn’t matter. As if the harm she caused wasn’t a problem and should be forgotten just because she suddenly saw the light and really is “just a kid.”

But she didn’t.

First, she doesn’t give a crap about the lives lost. She doesn’t give a crap about who lives or dies, and about what she did/caused.

Second, she’s not a freaking kid. She’s a grown-ass woman of 26, only a few years younger than Steve, and if she’s old enough to drink, fuck and kill, then she’s damn well old enough to take responsibility for the blood she shed. Willingly.

Third, how come Tony has to take responsibility, get reamed out by everyone and still not be forgiven, and atone over and over again for his mistakes (which afterward get used against him on a regular basis by his supposed team), even though he actually tries to get better and fix things, when Wanda, who doesn’t give a shit, gets a free pass? The double-standards when it comes to that are mind-blowing.

The same thing actually happens after Lagos. Wanda fucks up. And yeah, she was trying to help this time, I won’t deny it. But she did, and people died. And instead of benching her for more training (because while I believe that “lack of control” excuse if absolute bullshit after the mastery of her powers she displayed in Age of Ultron), which should have been Steve’s reaction as “team leader,” Steve gently sits her down and explains that she should forget about those people because “you can’t save everybody.” That the leader of the world’s leading defending force shows such disregard about human life is kinda daunting, don’t you think?

I can guarantee that, had Tony made such a costly mistake, he’d have been benched faster than you can say “hypocrite.”

Alright then.

On to that wonderfully childish “he locked me into my room” affair.

Tony tries to protect Wanda by keeping her in. Granted, he could have explained it better. Except here’s the deal: Tony has a lot on his plate. On top of this Accords mess, he’s still got a company to his name, which means the livelihoods of thousands of people all over the world to worry about, the Avengers’ gear, PR, and battles to deal with, his Iron Man duties, etc. etc. No doubt both the Lagos incident and Steve’s mess in Bulgaria are running him ragged trying to do damage control not only with Ross, but also with, probably, the press and maybe even the UN. Furthermore, he’s already been physically hurt.

He simply doesn’t have the time to sit down with Wanda, take her hand, and then explain everything that’s going down, especially given that she’s hostile towards him to begin with, and would probably not listen anyway.

Vision did try to explain. And she was fine with staying where she was until Clint popped up with his carefully not considered consequences.

Then you’ll never make me believe that dropping 20+ cars on top of a man—a man in armor, sure, but that doesn’t make it any better, the average weight of a car being 1.5 ton—the way she did wasn’t done with the intention to cause severe physical harm, if not outright death. To me, she saw the opportunity to hurt the man she considered responsible for everything wrong in this world, and took it with relish.

So here’s the thing.

Wanda can judge and hate Tony all she wants. But that doesn’t change the fact that were it not for him, she wouldn’t be in America. She wouldn’t have anything to eat, or to wear, or anywhere to sleep. She wouldn’t have a visa (which must have been freaking hard to obtain given that she was a criminal), or shiny toys, or a room bigger than the average family home to be locked in in the first place.

And it doesn’t change the fact that she has no right to that judgement and hatred while she conveniently refuses to acknowledge that, unlike Tony, who had no idea what was going on, she willingly caused harm to innocent people.

MASTERLIST

You sipped your coffee as you went over the case files again. You hadn’t seen your friend for a long time, and honestly you felt a little shitty asking him for a favor like this. It was something you would have to live with though. If this Dean Winchester guy could help you pinpoint the location the kill shots steamed from, then maybe you could actually make some headway in this case before a 3rd victim turned up. Ella McKenzie had turned up 7 weeks ago, and Cindy Stevenson, 3 weeks ago. If the unsub was sticking to that pattern, it didn’t give you and Cas a whole lot of time to find him before another girl went missing.

You were deep in thought, reading the coroner’s reports over and over again, as well as the initial police reports, searching for any possible link between these two women. You were so far away in your own thoughts, you didn’t notice the 6’4” man smiling at you from the doorway. You didn’t hear him approach you, and he didn’t make himself known to you before he was leaning down over your chair half whispering, half talking into your ear.

“Looking good G-woman.”

You nearly jumped of the chair, your hand instinctively flying to your gun, as your eyes finally landed on the long-haired man, holding his hands up defensively before him with a huge grin on his face.

Being Bruce’s S/O and Getting Kidnapped HCs

Because we’re all disgusting sadists and I obviously have issues. Trigger warning for kidnapping, torture, and some cruel language from the kidnapper’s side … I have a lot of problems …

  • Bruce has a crapton of enemies, even without the members of his Rogues Gallery being taken into consideration
    • From the nameless thugs to the morally bankrupt dirty cops to the monstrous traffickers, everyone wants to take down the Bat of Gotham
    • But for Bruce, it’s a nearly entirely different crowd…
    • Overzealous competitors and enemies of Wayne Industries, people who just want to slander his name to detrimental effect, people who’ve never met even met Bruce yet have an intense obsession with his existence that could easily tread into murderous territories, even a few villains from his moonlighting job who simply want to take a crack at the Prince of Gotham
      • Of course, being that Bruce is a taller-than-average guy with pretty decent coverage, there aren’t many opportunities that can be taken to kidnap him
    • You, on the other hand…
    • You, the significant other of one of the richest men in not only Gotham, but the entire world, the one people liken to Cinderella, who still keeps an apartment in the city as well as the humble job they’d had even before dating the billionaire… You’re easy pickings

Hi! Just wondering, what are your thoughts on Snape? I understand his bravery in spying and the marauders treated him like shit and hardly got punished for it, but I don't know if any of that excuses his behaviour towards his students? I can never quite make up my mind...

Oh, Snape. He’s such a complex and interesting character. He had, we can infer, a lousy childhood. He was poor, he’d been isolated from magical friends until he want to Hogwarts and seems to have only known Lily.  He attracts a bully on the train and James Potter and Co. spend the next few years targeting him ‘just because he exists.’

We know Hogwarts doesn’t make any real attempt to rein in bullying. Luna gets her things stolen by her housemates with no visible repercussions. Draco is a brat in Canon. (Dressing up like a Dementor, Draco?  Really?)  No repercussions.  We see much the same with Snape. He gets picked on to the point of attempted murder and the school kind of shrugs.

That’s all just horrible.

The bullying scene we see in the pensive is pretty brutal.  It’s multiple students against one. It occurs, timeline wise, AFTER the attempted murder so it’s pretty clear the Mauraders know they are untouchable.  I mean, if you can get away with attempted murder you know no one’s going to stop you for a little humiliation.

Imagine having multiple bullies go after you in public, strip your clothes off you, and laugh because they know they’ll be no consequences.

Man has reasons to hate.

Now, in a simple story, he’d see Harry, devote his life to protecting him, and get a nice and tidy redemption arc. He’d grow to care about his only friend’s child. He’d nurture him. He’d grow as a person.

Not Snape.

Like many people who are terribly hurt as children, he turns into his own abusers. He still hates. He hates Harry for looking like his tormenter. He hates children because he’s stuck in this job he despises.

(BTW, high school teachers who don’t like teenagers are more common than you might think.  I only taught for three years, and the plural of anecdote is not data and all that, but I was pretty surprised how many people I worked with who didn’t seem to like adolescents. And they PICKED that job. Snape didn’t even pick it.)

Anyway.

He stays a dick.  He’s horrible to his students.  If a child whose parents have been tortured into insanity is more afraid of you than anything else, you’re a monster.  A lot of people have shitty childhoods and manage not to turn into shitty adults, but not Snape. He is a horrible adult.

And he spies anyway. He does the noble thing not because he’s a good person. Not because he loves the boy he’s protecting.  And doing the right thing STILL doesn’t turn him into a good person. He remains bitter, and filled with hate, and tormented by the way he was abused.

He’s a man who had reasons to grow into a horrible person.  He does the right thing anyway, without any sentimental, touchy-feely redemption confessions of how now he understands. Nope.  He dies still a dick, still emotionally trapped by his own shortcomings, still a hero.

Damn, is he a brilliant character.

There’s one thing about Dracula adaptations that always bugs me: the reincarnated wife plot. Dracula is haunted by tragic death of the love of his life, usually from before he became a vampire. (In Francis Ford Copolla’s fever dream Vlad the Impaler is so sad about his dead wife that he yells at God and stabs a cross and that turns you into a vampire, apparently). Then, he lays eyes on Mina. He immediately knows that she is his dead wife reborn through oceans of time or whatever. Their love is destined and he must have her.

I’m particularly thinking about Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula (which is a ludicrously inappropriate title; I’ve decided to go with BS Dracula instead). The NBC Dracula series also jumps on the dead wife bandwagon. Dracula Untold too, though as far as I can tell that movie has less than one percent to do with the novel. (I get the feeling these adaptations are playing follow the commercially successful leader). For an interesting change of pace, there’s also the 1973 Dracula starring Jack Palance where Lucy is the reincarnated wife.

I hate this cliché with every fiber of my being. I don’t want it anywhere near my favorite novel. Honestly, I don’t think I’d want this story anywhere. But, it’s particularly awful in the context of the original novel. Let me just sort of spew my rageful thoughts out here, particularly with BS Dracula in mind.

Firstly, this plot completely takes away Mina’s agency. Dracula is the only one who remembers their connection. He has to tell her that they’re supposed to be soulmates. And, he starts pursuing her before she knows any of this. There’s some hefty entitlement going on here. She was with him before, so she’s going to be with him now, even if she has no memory of it. He lost his lady, he was sad, he spent hundreds of years moping and murdering innocent people, and then he gets a replacement. She takes away his sadness and brings out his better nature (not that he attempts to make any restitution to his victims; apologizing for eating babies just wouldn’t be romantic, I guess).

Mina isn’t presented as having any real choice in the matter. She has to be same woman as she was in her previous life. She has to love him back. Her previous life up to this point doesn’t matter. It’s like that bit from Daria: without knowing it, she’s just been waiting her entire life for him to show up and now her life can really begin. She exists to be in love with him.

Yet, this relationship is supposed to be positive for both of them. Being with Dracula fulfills some need she wasn’t even consciously aware of before. Because, you see, Victorian society is repressing her sexuality and individuality. So, she needs a man to come along and liberate her. Of course, she can’t be really fulfilled with Jonathan. I mean, come on, he’s a kind, naïve, well-mannered, generally nice guy. How boring is that? He needs to be a complicated, ambiguous, dangerous, mysterious, dark and brooding loner who murders people, but he feels bad about it so it’s okay.

That brings me to the second thing that enrages me about the dead wife cliché: how it stands in comparison to the canonical relationship between Jonathan and Mina.

Dracula and Mina’s love is supposed to be based on destiny. They’re in love because they’re soulmates. They’re in love because they’re in love. It’s a grand romance that was always meant to be. But, it doesn’t feel like it’s based on anything about them as people and how they relate to each other on a practical level.

Jonathan and Mina’s love is shown in their actions as well as their thoughts towards each other: simple things, not always grand gestures. Jonathan takes recipes home for Mina. She memorizes the train schedule to help him out. They learn shorthand together. They have common interests (“Trains are so cool.” “I know, right?”). They supported each other in their careers. They set up a household together. They deal with day to day issues. I can’t imagine Mina and Dracula working on a budget, doing taxes, discussing schedules with the serving staff, giggling at each others dumb jokes, complaining about the latest changes in the train schedule or just getting ready for bed and chatting over the boring minutiae of the day, like I can with the Harkers.

And even in more extreme situations, their relationship is far more meaningful. Jonathan faces off against vampires and bloodthirsty wolves to see his fiancée again. Mina travels to a strange country on her own and marries Jonathan while he’s in his sick bed. She supports him through is grief and trauma. As I’ve said before, she puts together the group, and is ultimately the one who is responsible for stopping Dracula, because she wants to get to the bottom of what’s wrong with her husband.

Even through the grief of losing his second father and the lingering trauma from his ordeal at Dracula’s hands, Jonathan wants to take care of Mina. To the point that he inadvertently harms her by agreeing to keep her out of the investigation. And he regrets his actions. When Mina says that she’s “unclean,” Jonathan embraces her, reassures her that there’s nothing wrong with her. He tries his best to comfort her as her condition worsens. He will stand by her in life, death, or undeath.

What does Dracula concretely do for her? He feels bad about the countless people he’s murdered. He offers her generic “love.” He fills some need she didn’t know she had, that in the movie comes off primarily as just sexual. She has to be with him. In trope terms, she exists to be his morality pet and replacement goldfish.

I’m not saying I don’t enjoy love at first sight, love that persists across time, reincarnated soulmates. I’m a romantic. But, there needs to be something behind that. I need to know that these people work as friends, as partners. The reincarnated wife plot in BS Dracula and its imitators isn’t romantic. It’s soaring strings, staring into each other’s lives, sex, and vague destiny trying its hardest to tell me that its romantic.

Why would I want to see that when I have Mina and Jonathan’s love story? When I have a personal, real, human love story?

Hell, consider Jack and Lucy’s relationship: a lonely, complicated man with a dark side (and, yeah, a strain of self pity) who is turned down by the woman he loves who is in love with a more traditionally romantic hero. And? He respects her, accepts her choices, supports her even if he’s still hurt by the loss. He doesn’t force the issue, he doesn’t think that she needs his love to make her life complete. He’s a good person. He’s likable despite, maybe because of his faults. We want to see him overcome his demons and live a better life. I don’t want to see Dracula redeemed. I don’t see him as a dark, gothic rebel saving Mina from those stupid, Victorian preps. I don’t want Mina to be reduced to an object for his redemption arc.

He’s a terrifying villain because he’s an abuser, a manipulator, a sadist, who violates people physically, mentally, and emotional to take away their power. Dracula is something fundamentally evil in an unsettlingly real way. There’s nothing sympathetic about Dracula. Rewriting the story to make him an antihero only reflects that the author thinks that Dracula, dark, tortured, dangerous, powerful, is a figure we should identify with, above someone like Jonathan. And popular culture seems to by and large agree that this is the story we want to see. And that doesn’t reflect well on the popular psyche.

The reincarnated wife plot isn’t more interesting than the love story in the book. Jonathan and Mina Harker aren’t boring. They’re a romance we can really aspire to.

anonymous asked:

do u think keith is ruthless enough to kill?

seE,, this is interesting to me because, i think we already have that answer. but i dont think the answer makes him ruthless

as soon as keith gets an opportunity to take out zarkon, he takes it. hes like ?? i can end the empire right here right now? i can just axe this guy and that’ll save the universe? great, done

even when coran tells him like five times No,,,no do nOt do that, that is a Bad plan, he just cuts the comms. like he is ready to kill zarkon right here right now

if he was able to at the time, i seriously think he would’ve killed zarkon without a second thought. he went all out trying to kill him, no questions asked. because the thing about keith is, he’s very much an act now type of person. he thinks on his feet and reacts in the moment. i feel like that leaves very little room at the time for regret, particularly when you 1) dont know the guy personally and 2) you do know that they’re responsible for the torture, enslavement, and murder of countless races across the universe.

also, he uh?? may have killed someone already? remember the druid he threw his sword at, and on contact with the blade they just like??? obliterated?? and all thats left is the sword?

ya, that. keith doesnt seem at all broken up about that. you can argue of course that he wasn’t intending to kill them cause he didnt know blades magically disintegrate druids, but like. pidge also kinda causes haxus to fall (to his death??) and it doesnt phase her. i think with both of those instances the idea is let’s brush past this real quickly and not really stop to think about it cause we cant dwell too much on murder in a kids show,, (hi florona).

but in the case with keith and zarkon, i think his immediate willingness to kill someone for the greater good is very much intentional. zarkon conquered like most of the known universe. he destroyed allura’s home planet. his empire captured and tortured keith’s only friend. keith has plenty of reason to want to even the score. also, its a numbers game–get rid of this one Evil guy, and you save the whole universe. to keith, that’s not even a question.

theres also lubos, who i guarentee keith wouldve had no qualms about killing. i mean, he doesn’t go through with it, but you can clearly see that once keith realizes lubos sold out his people to save his own skin, well–keith definitely wanted to get back at him for it

of course, we do know that keith doesnt try to harm people needlessly though. the garrison covered up the disappearance of his best friend, then captured and sedated him when he got back to earth. keith had a knife at the time, but he still only fights the garrison barehanded and just quickly knocks them out. when he’s on the balmera, he stops attacking head-on when lance reminds him the “planet” is an actual creature that can be harmed. keith doesn’t want to hurt people if he can avoid it, and as much as he likes getting back at the galra, i still think he’d only kill someone out of necessity, not personal gain.

i also think keith is much less fired up to take on the galra now because he’s one of them. this means he’s not only more compassionate and empathetic towards some of them–see thace and ulaz–this also means he’s very much conscious about his own feelings of aggression. like, i think he’s trying extra hard not to lash out or anything because he worries he’s just like them. and keith really, really wants to be a good person. like, the boy is really trying. he honestly genuinely cares about other people and wants to do “the right thing”

for keith, killing zarkon was “the right thing.” it meant sparing the universe from his intergalactic conquest. it meant justice for shiro and freeing pidge’s family and putting an end to the monster that eradicated allura’s home. from keith’s perspective, allowing zarkon to live, allowing zarkon to continue imprisoning and torturing and murdering people when he had the power to act and stop it, now that is ruthless. he was just trying to do the right thing

i dont think anyone thinks pidge is a bad person for pushing haxus. i dont think anyone would say shiro lost his humanity just because he was thrown in a gladiator arena and he’d rather fight back than lay down and die. so i wouldnt say keith is heartless just because he’s willing to make big sacrifices for what he thinks is right.

on a more meta level, i also think its kinda hard to judge cause he’s not really human, so human standards dont really apply. for instance, lance and hunk both tell him its cold to leave allura. but by galra standards, i think thats just being pragmatic. so like, what the galra consider ruthless might be something different. anyway, sorry this got so long but,,, ya i do think keith could kill. i dont think that makes him ruthless though, especially since its a given people are going to die in war and he knows what he signed up for

Time and POV in Stuck in the Middle With You 12x12...

“So… tell me a story…” says Mr. Ketch, sitting across from Mary, just after the burning MOL symbol of the season announces…

The narrative is thus framed as told in flashback by Mary to Mr. Ketch.

The first POV we get is therefore Mary’s…

Time card… accompanied by the ticking of a stop watch (which we hear at intervals throughout the episode).

Mary witnesses Dean performing “super-hetero Dean” for Wally, or attempting to, in a diner - doesn’t go so well, with the, “My shy but devastatingly handsome friend,” huh Dean? Although, of course we can all agree Cas IS devastatingly handsome…

Mary is not impressed… (not with her sons bickering either - oh Mary - you ain’t seen nothing yet…)

under the cut as this got super long…

Hi ! I love your blog ! ❤️i was wondering if you could do a reaction of got7 of their gf break up with them but another member like her (she finds out) and because she don’t want them to argue and “destroye” the group (she thanks its more important to him) she wants to Break up Hahaha sorry it’s long

Note: I changed your request a little so it’s just where the reader finds out another member likes them when they’re already dating someone in Got7. Just because the other is a little too long to put in a reaction. I’d be happy to write you a scenario if you want to request for a specific member. Enjoy!

Since you’re already dating Jinyoung, Jackson would feel pretty bad for having a crush on you. But it’s not something that you can help or decide, your heart does not care and it can sometimes turn out brutally. Watching you and Jinyoung is torture to him, and no one but himself knows how he really feels. That is until one fateful day when he decided he needed to come clean about the situation as it was causing him so much stress.

Jackson: “I don’t expect you to return my feelings obviously, but I just wanted to let you know that it’s how I feel. I’m sorry if this makes things awkward. I hope you still want to be friends. I just needed to tell you, it’s been eating me up inside. “

Mark would be really secretive about how he feels, and only trusts those that are very close to him at the best of times. Upon realising he was beginning to like you more than he should, he confided in Jackson. Bad idea. The two of them sat in their shared room, talking about it. Little did they know that you were stood outside the door for the entire conversation. A little while after, you caught Mark on his own and confronted him about it. He looked more than uncomfortable, you could tell he would rather do anything than have a conversation with you like this.

Mark: “You shouldn’t go around listening to people’s conversations.”

{y/n}: “That’s not the point. I heard my name and got curious. You should be more careful if you don’t want people to hear you. Any of them could have heard you. Yugyeom could have heard you.”

Mark: “I don’t care {y/n}. It doesn’t matter anyway.” *Walks away because he doesn’t want you to see him as his eyes well up*

Bambam had no intention on telling you how he feels about you because well, that would be an asshole move while you’re dating one of his best friends and fellow band mates, Jackson. But one night, the two of you were hanging out with a few drinks, like all best friends do. But with him drinking too much of the intoxicating liquid and you not enough he found himself spilling more information and putting himself in the danger zone.

Bambam: I like you {y/n}”

{y/n}: “I like you too, Bambam.”

Bambam: “No, {y/n}. I really like you. I mean, I would totally kiss you right now. But you’re with Jackson, what a dick. I’ve liked you longer, probably. Shit, I shouldn’t be telling you this. {y/n} I’m so drunk.”

{y/n}: *Not sure if you should take him seriously or not.* “I’ll get you some water.”

It had been Bambam that had let the cat out of the bag, he had admitted it to Jaebum with sorrowful eyes and a guilty expression. Jaebum had expected you to say something, but you didn’t, at least for a while, until you couldn’t go any longer without anything being confirmed.

{y/n}: “Bambam told me that you like me… I just wanted to know if that was true, or if he was trying to prank me. You know I’m with Youngjae, don’t you?”

Jaebum: “It’s not true. Bambam is an idiot, don’t pay any attention to him, you know what he’s like.” *Laughing it off, somehow managing to convince you even as his heart shatters.*

{y/n}: “Ah, that idiot. I knew he was playing up. I’m sorry if I made you awkward. I should have known better than to believe something so stupid.” *hugs him*

Jaebum: “Yeah, completely stupid. What were you thinking?” *Holds you tightly as though it’s the last time he ever will.*

The worst thing about you liking Mark was probably all of the PDA. You didn’t do it intimately, but it didn’t need to be. Even the smallest hugs, or the way he cuddled you on the sofa made his blood boil. But what could be do about it? Nothing. He liked Mark, he’s one of his best friends, of course, and Jinyoung wants him to be happy. But at the same time, watching Mark standing in the place he is desperate to be kills him inside.

{y/n}: *Kisses Mark, sitting down next to him on the sofa.*

Jackson: “Are you okay Jinyoung? You look like you’re about to commit mass murder.”

Jinyoung: “I’m fine, I just feel a little sick.” *glares at you and Mark*

Yugyeom: “Thank you for driving me here, I love you {y/n}.”

{y/n}: *Laughs* “I love you too, Yugyeom.”

Yugyeom: “Liar. You don’t love me, you love JB. I love you though, I even wrote you that song. It’s really funny, because you have no idea it’s for you.”

{y/n}: “… Is this true, Youngjae?”

Youngjae: “No…”

Their love lingers on,
Like a fresh wound
With no one to love.

The paper stared at her, refusing to blink. Lena knit her fingers together and rested her cheek on them as she lingered over the words that sat there. She blew air threw her lips and prepared herself to finally read her father’s words.
