I have noticed it a lot lately

you might have noticed that i havent been as active lately. i’m slowly starting to step away from excessive social media use. obviously there’s no way i can give any of it up for good, but i feel a lot lighter now knowing that tumblr is a place where i can escape whereas before it felt more like a chore. it’s way more enjoyable to me now.

that being said, i’m not going to be posting a lot, but i’ll still be checking messages. so if you’re in the toronto area and would like to hang out or something let me know!

Writing Update

Hello my beautiful fangsters,

I have a few thing to talk about, so I would appreciate it if you took the time to read this. Don´t worry I am not quitting tumblr or anything like that, so need to panic (if you even care ^^)

You might have noticed the absence of writings lately, and I apologize for that. I simply have a crazy schedule. (For example I got home at 8:30PM yesterday after 11 hours of work). Working sucks.

Since I have a lot of writing requests in line, and I do not have the same amount of time to write as I did before, I decided to change a few things:
I am unable to write every Imagine/Oneshot requests without letting you wait for a veeery long time, so I have come to the decision that if a requests is similar to one I already did (or one I am working on) I won´t be writing it.
Sure there will be exceptions, if a certain character react differently to a certain situation, or I have a new idea, however I sadly cannot write every single request I get anymore if they are too similar.

Please note, that this does not mean that you should stop sending in your awesome requests, I just have to use the little time I have as effective as possible, and I cannot do that if I have to think of new ideas for a similar storyline. It just takes too much time.

I hope you understand. Have a marvelous day/night my darlings <3 I love you,

disney + encouraging words

I’ve noticed a lot of friends who need a bit of a pick-me-up lately, and I could use one too. So I made this set of some encouraging words from disney characters. If you’re having a bad day or you’re going through a rough time lately, this is for you.

Hey everyone! My name is Catienna, and I am the owner of this image. I’ve noticed that it has received a lot of attention lately, and I had no idea how fast it would spread. I really REALLY do appreciate the positive reception it has gotten. However, I was told that it was circulating on a couple of websites, without credit being given. So I have to ask you guys a favor. If you see this image floating around without any sort of credit (such as my real name, or the usernames: meritaten, or lareinedesvagabonds) please let me know. I worked very hard on this piece, and I am very possessive of my work. I like sharing it, but I also would like to let you know it is mine.

You can find this at my art blog: @lareinedesvagabonds and at my deviantART of the same name, or at my website, artbycati.com

Thanks again!

“What a small world.”

so let's talk about girl groups.

I’ve been noticing a lot lately-large amounts of hate towards female k-pop groups. And most of it is ridiculous. I’ve spot lighted a couple of female who get too much hate (Hyorin, Ailee, Hyuna, Goo Hara) a time or two before, and as comebacks keep happening, the feeling of misogyny in the K-Pop fandom just gets bigger, and bigger, and bigger.

So let’s get some things straight.

Time for a DoodleOrDie spam! The ’MSPA Draws’ room moves so slowly though, ya’ll should join and remedy that!

so as you many have probably noticed, I haven’t been able to release comics very frequently lately, and that’s been due to me trying to keep up with bills, which hasn’t left me a whole lot of free-time to devote to comics lately

BUT with the help of Tapastic’s Support Program, you could help change this!

You can donate money directly to 4PL, which will allow me to focus more on bringing you more comics!
AND by donating you can also get access to exclusive content such as early comic viewing, behind the scenes doodles, private supporter-only streams, and more!

SO if any of that sounds good to you check it out here! :D

How to tag trypophobia: a (hopefully helpful) guide

I’ve noticed a lot of people beginning to tag trypophobia lately, and as a sufferer it makes me really happy and I’d like to thank everyone who does this!

Unfortunately, trypophobia is a hard phobia to “get” if you don’t have it.  As a result, I see a lot of images tagged by well-meaning bloggers as trypophobia that aren’t triggering at all, and a lot of images that slip right through. So, despite not being an expert on the phobia, I’m going to try and help non-sufferers help sufferers out.

The best possible explanation for something triggering I can come up with is irregular holes- i.e. indentations that aren’t uniform.

Lotus pods (pic is probably quite triggering if you have it, so watch out) are often cited as an example of something a sufferer would make them uncomfortable, and they’re a good example of what the phobia tends to involve: clusters of uneven holes.

Quick list of the kind of stuff that you should tag:

  • lotus seed pods
  • honeycombs
  • ant colonies with lots of entrances
  • skin diseases, also those frogs that carry their eggs in their skin…
  • sponges and barnacles + clusters of bubbles
  • stretch marks and freckles [thanks for this suggestion, anon!]
  • that one post floating around with a view of where the adult teeth are located on a child’s skull
  • strawberries [this one could go either way; i know people with trypophobia who hate the seed pattern but I don’t really mind. same with trees that have lots of weird holes]
  • anything with irregular holes; if it reminds you of the above you should probably tag it

Stuff that’s probably not necessary or could be covered under “clusters” or “holes”

  • stars/galaxies
  • polka dot patterns
  • stuff like empty eyes or nostrils
  • a single hole/indentation

I’m not an end-all EXPERT on this phobia, so any asks and comments to improve this post are appreciated! Happy blogging and thank you for reading!

Mermaid-edition {Sentence Starters}
  • "Okay, don't freak out- but I'm actually a mermaid/man."
  • "You don't have to be afraid of me. I only want to see your tail."
  • "I knew I saw something in the water!"
  • "Stay away, you sea monster!"
  • "I heard you sing. It really was the most beautiful sound."
  • "Watch the tail!"
  • "How long were you gonna wait to tell me about the whole I-actually-have-fins thing?"
  • "I noticed you've been hanging around the water a lot, lately. Hoping to find a mermaid or something?"
  • "Let me out of this net!"
  • "Could you teach me how to swim? Cause you seem like an expert."
  • "You can't be real. Things like you aren't real!"
  • "Now do you see why I always like to swim?"
  • "Step out of the water. Let me see."
  • "Don't swim to close to me. My fins might hit you."
  • "Ouch! Your scales are sharp!"
  • "I didn't think creatures like you existed."
  • "You're stepping on my fins!"
  • "Are those scales? Are those actual scales?"

headcanon in which james potter spent his entire childhood thinking (knowing!) he was going to play quidditch professionally and for puddlemere united and have his name appear beside the greats like joscelind wadcock and on trophies and paraphernalia and textbooks besides but ended up being the man who sired the boy who lived instead and that’s alright by him

Having a thought about Steven Universe now that I’m in excess of twenty episodes in (way too late, I know), and I’m surprised that I haven’t seen anybody else bring this up, so I’m wondering if this is just an obvious thing, or something that comes up in an episode I haven’t seen talked about, or if it’s just that legit nobody’s noticed. But anyway:

a lot of the weird locales that the Gems visit are totally other Gems, right?

Like, okay, that sounds weird but listen: there have been a ton of places the Gems have visited where they haven’t really thrown down with a corrupted gem - they’ve just gone to a place full of deathtraps or weird puzzles (see: Serious Steven, Steven’s Lion), and then found a gem there and bubbled it away. And let’s also consider that Lapis was a mirror for a longass time. She wasn’t trapped in it; it wasn’t a container for her. She just was the mirror.

And I think this has some fascinating, kind of fucked up implications that raise a lot of questions. Because you know what the first thing Lapis says to Steven once they really start communicating?

Steven asks her what it’s like being a mirror, and she responds by playing back his words:

“You work!”

Lapis was a literal slave. Gems are shapeshifters; maybe the thing about Gem society (or one of the things) is that some Gems don’t get proper bodies. They have a role; they have a function. They don’t get to have a life.

The Gems on Homeworld may literally live on top and inside of an inanimate underclass.

Another possibility: Pearl says that the Desert Glass has become directionless over the eons it’s been left alone, and now it just makes walls blocking off nothing and stairs to nowhere. If she’s describing the behavior of a Gem, and not just a magic artifact, does that mean that the Desert Glass has the Gem equivalent of dementia? Do all the really old gems just get bigger and weirder until they become places?

I love this fucking show.

Songo Mnara: A Lost City Reveals the Grandeur of Medieval African civilization

Some of the world’s greatest cities during the Middle Ages were on the eastern coast of Africa. Their ornate stone domes and soaring walls, made with ocean corals and painted a brilliant white, were wonders to the traders that visited them from Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. They were the superpowers of the Swahili Coast, and they’ve long been misunderstood by archaeologists. It’s only recently that researchers outside Africa are beginning to appreciate their importance.

I’m noticing a lot of “discoveries” like this have been happening lately; in fact, I just posted one. At least this article overtly states the “assumption” underlying the tone of surprise from Western academia:

For Horton and Wynne-Jones, excavating Songo Mnara is a rare privilege — it’s a mostly-undisturbed site, largely ignored by scientists and locals alike. Partly, it’s been preserved so well because archaeologists from an earlier era didn’t believe it was a legitimate African ruin — they believed the architecture was too sophisticated, and therefore had to have been crafted by Arab traders who wanted an outpost. That idea has long been disproven, and now the archaeological community accepts that the vibrant Swahili culture was purely African in origin, and that the cultural influences from the Middle East cut both ways. The Swahili Coast and its luxurious arts and goods were an enormous influence on their neighbors ringing the Indian Ocean.

A day off is well needed after six shifts straight, alongside a whole lot of homework from lectures that have kept you up until the late hours of the evening. Or more so, into the earliest minutes of the morning. So when you notice that your Thursday is completely free of absolutely anything at all, the sight of the blank space on your calendar nearly brings a tear to your eye, and you decide it can be the perfect twenty-four hours to treat yourself, to at long last, kick back and relax.

And what a lovely day it has been so far! You sleep in without any concern of an alarm, briefly waking only to roll over and drape yourself back into your sheets, welcoming another hour and a half of dreams. The sound of your roommate slamming the front door on her way out to one of her own tutorials has you decidedly getting up, taking your time to make toast, switching the kettle on to boil until you open the coffee jar and realise the dreaded fact that less than half a teaspoon of grains is found stuck to the bottom.
