I have an exam in less than a week that I know nothing about

The Boxer

Pairing: Y/N and Harry

Word Count: 10k

Prompt: Harry hires Y/N as his on call nurse and for his matches.

or

“You’re supposed to be in the hospital gown, it’s why we laid it out for you,” Y/N stated, pointing the pen in her hand at the white gown by his feet.

“I’m not wearing that paper shit,” Harry grumbled, “and I’m perfectly fine to leave.”

“That cut says otherwise,” Y/N says.

Harry watches as she sets down the clipboard and turns on the sink to wash her hands, she’s cute. She’s nothing like the kind Harry would go for. His usual prey would be at the bar, lonely, maybe going through a breakup, but he knew for sure that by the end of the night she would be in his bed. Y/N on the other hand looked like too pure for him, and he hated that look.

From his experience Harry had learned that girls like Y/N believed that they were too good for a guy like him. Girls like Y/N, with an innocent smile, soft skin, and soft voices, tended to only use him for one thing, to make their parents upset. Harry had seen it time and time again, it was only a matter of weeks before the girl would crush his heart and move on to someone better.

“I don’t feel anything,” Harry stated.

Harry had grown numb to just about everything. He couldn’t feel the punches thrown at him, he couldn’t feel his emotions, it all just seemed gone to him. He didn’t mind though, no emotions meant he couldn’t get hurt, and no pain meant he was unstoppable.

or

Boxer Harry Styles highers, incredibly perky Y/N as his on-call nurse.

“I hate the graveyard shift,” Y/N stated, slumping into the chair.

[Y/N] = your first name
[L/N] = your last name

The first time that Peter Parker lied to you was over the phone. You had just gotten ready for the date you had both planned as a post-midterms celebration when the familiar tune of your ringtone graced your ears. At the sight of Peter’s Caller ID, you had managed to grin before picking up.

“I’m absolutely starving, Parker.” you greeted, taking a seat on your bed and tucking your left leg under your right. “You better have made reservations at the pizza parlour because you know how busy they can get on Fridays,” you added, and when Peter said nothing, you raised an eyebrow. “Peter?”

“I’m here,” he assured you since it sounded like he wasn’t present in the conversation at all. “I’m here, sorry,” Peter mumbled his apology before taking a deep breath, one that you could hear even over the phone.

“Are you okay?” you inquired, immediately noticing the edge in his voice. “What’s up?”

“I’m so, so incredibly sorry that I’m doing this to you,” was what Peter chose to lead with. “But I can’t make it tonight.”

For a moment, you the nervous feeling in your stomach turned into disappointment, but you shook it off quickly, knowing that there was always a good reason for Peter’s cancellations. “That’s okay. What came up?” you asked. “Is everything okay?”

“Everything’s fine, don’t worry about it.” something about the way Peter was speaking — perhaps it was the way his usually nonchalant voice seemed strained — made you immediately come to the conclusion that he was lying to you.

“Peter,” You began slowly, putting a smile on your face, knowing that this would make your voice sound less worried than you truly were. “If there’s something going on, I’m not going to hate you for telling me. I’d really rather know than, well, not know.” you paused, giving Peter a minute.

“It’s nothing, I swear. Just some emergency stuff came up with Ned and I really have to be there for him is all.” Peter lied so smoothly that you almost believed him, but the waver in his voice when he swore he was telling the truth was enough to expose his fibbing.

“Alright,” you allowed yourself to frown. “Well, I hope everything’s okay with Ned. Let me know what happens when you can, okay?”

“Of course, love you!” and with that, Peter hung up the phone. You were sat on your bed for a moment, phone pressed to your cheek before you realised that he was gone. You lowered your phone onto your bed and sighed, glancing around your room, digesting the conversation you had just had with your boyfriend. Things with you and Peter were still relatively new, going on roughly five months, but you had known Peter since the beginning of high school, which was over a year and a half ago. In this time, you had really gotten to know Peter and his quirks, including what he sounded like when he lied.

Deciding that you still deserved some sort of post-midterms treat, you reached for your phone again and dialled Michelle’s phone number as you pulled off your black lace-up heels.

“Hey, Y/N.” Michelle greeted you, her voice slightly more vibrant than usual. “I thought you were going out with Peter tonight?”

“I was,” you confirmed, getting to your feet and comfortably pacing your room. “He just cancelled though, so I’m all free! I was wondering if you might accept a stray into your Friday night plans?” you asked hopefully.

“Well you know how I feel about taking in strays, everyone’s welcome,” Michelle continued your banter. “Actually, Ned and I were just going to get something to eat so why don’t you join us?” This made you frown.

“You’re heading out to eat with Ned? Like, right now?” you questioned slowly, letting it sink in.

“Yeah, we’re on our way out, but we can totally meet up with you! Ned scored us a table at that pizzeria that we all like by promising that we’d be there in at least twenty minutes. Are you up for that?”

You paused. “Yeah, totally.” you agreed. “I’ll meet you guys there. And Ned’s good?” you asked, making sure that you weren’t imagining things.

“He’s pretty jazzed that midterms are over and his deteriorating test-stress has finally been demolished,” Michelle said, and you heard Ned loudly protesting over the phone. “We’re all good. So we’ll see you in twenty?”

“See you then.” you agreed before bidding Michelle farewell. You hung up and frowned, the idea that you had about Peter lying confirmed. If there was an emergency with Ned, why would he be going out for pizza with Michelle? Suddenly, the combination of your lace camisole top, skinny jeans and leather jacket seemed a little too dressed up just to get pizza with Ned and Michelle. Going on a date with Peter allowed for the camisole and heels, but dinner with friends didn’t seem like it needed as much special effort.

Frowning, you stripped off the leather jacket and began to rummage through your closet in order to find a replacement for the camisole, choosing a Nasa t-shirt — which you were certain belonged to Peter — and pulled that on instead. You opted for a pair of old sneakers and pulled the jacket back on before grabbing your bag and phone heading out the door to meet your friends.

What to do when you’re stuck with a lazy group? I’m with two guys and we still haven’t chosen a topic. We have to present in two weeks. Nobody replies to my messages and both left after class this week. I just wanted to choose a topic and leave!!!! So I booked a study room today and they all made excuses. Ugh. I’m gonna be the one who’s doing all the work. This is worth 40% of our grade. Same as the exam. FML

Hi there, thank you for asking, as this is a super common problem in high school, university and the workplace! I’ve never seen this question answered in depth on studyblr, so I’ll give it a go!

NB. It depends on your personality as to the approach you want to take, so let everyone who’s reading this not pass judgement upon others in such a situation~ Remember in all of this to be polite, understanding and gracious no matter how much you want to flip tables. The following 5 Options go in order of how many bridges you want to burn :’)

Option 0. Wait for a bit longer and try communicating with them again.

I have seen a similar question asked once on tumblr where the studyblr blogger answered “two weeks is plenty of time, you’re probably over-reacting”… Obviously, I’m not going to trivialise your answer by giving you just one option like that - I frankly thought that studyblr was quite rude for answering so shortly to someone who took the time to ask them a question.

How to do it: The way you communicate with them now might not be effective, so make sure that you’re ticking off the following boxes if you choose this option, rather than just letting nothing change: meeting face to face, setting mini-deadlines for each part instead of just allocating once at the beginning, and make sure each member knows what and when they have to complete something.

This option is best suited for people who:

  • really don’t want to create a commotion and would rather wait a little longer and reduce the time available for them to do the project,
  • or people who would answer ‘Strongly Disagree’ to “Being organized is more important to you than being adaptable“ and “In a discussion, truth should be more important than people’s sensitivities.” in a personality quiz (a strong prognostic factor for Option 1 tbh),
  • or people who know they can tackle everything in less than 1 week,
  • or people who just realised/kind of know they’re actually overreacting,
  • or have just realised whilst reading this that maybe they didn’t actually try contacting the other group members all that well (i.e. don’t have enough evidence for Option 3).

Pros:

  • Nobody gets angry at anyone, and it doesn’t reflect badly on you either (because no one finds out if you don’t say anything - people tend to be judgemental if you pick one of the three options below).
  • Less stressful for some people than confrontation.
  • You might get eventual cooperation.

Cons:

  • You might not get eventual cooperation, and end up being stuck with all the work anyway (hence resulting in options below).
  • More stressful for other people as you feel time is ticking away and nothing is changing.
  • The time you spend waiting for the others will result in less time for you to tackle all the actual work.

Pro-tip: doing as much individual work as possible sometimes will egg those team members to finally start pulling their weight, or can help you with Option 3 if you do end up going for it.

Option 1. You make all the decisions and do all the work.

Best suited for people who: are academically gifted, like doing work independently, have excellent time management skills.

Pros:

  • You can ensure the quality of the work will be excellent.
  • You get to choose what topic to do and direct the overall project turnout.
  • No one hates you for anything, but NB. your friends and family relationships that suffer as a result of the time you have to sacrifice might not have anything pleasant to say about it all.

Cons:

  • You need an extraordinary amount of time.
  • The other people in the group get a free ride and in nastier words, some would say you get taken advantage of for your goodwill.
  • Lack of group opinion may make the quality of your work suffer.
  • Other subjects you’re taking may suffer.

Option 2. Badger the other group members until they do some work.

Best suited for people who: don’t want to be stuck with Option 1, but don’t want to escalate to Option 3. Give them an ultimatum about the work, or just decide the topic by yourself if they don’t step up.

Pros:

  • Very similar to Option 0 in that you wait a bit longer before taking drastic action, so you might get eventual cooperation, and you don’t bother your professor.

Cons:

  • You stress yourself out badgering other people.
  • Other group members get annoyed at you, and your classmates that happen to watch you badgering have a not-so-great impression of you.

Option 3. Document a significant amount of evidence that shows your effort to get them to contribute and contact the professor about it.

Best suited for people who: would like to do things independently but just cannot afford the time because of other commitments.

Pros:

  • Professor can step in and (hopefully) offer some sort of alternative solution.
  • Your other subjects won’t suffer.
  • Sometimes you have a really great professor and they end up taking into account that you’ve done the project by yourself and mark super nicely/give a bonus mark, or even penalise the other students.

Cons:

  • Professor may snuff you and say “the purpose of this project is also to learn about team cooperation”. Had a prof before who told us straight up at the beginning of the project that “you work it out, not me”
  • Professor may help you out, but in a way that doesn’t really end up helping e.g. he just emails the two members of your group to tell them to start working once and that’s it.
  • Other group members hate you for life (and I know this bothers some people enough not to go through with it, again pls remember no judgement fellow readers)

How to do it: Email should be along the lines of the following:

Dear Professor _______,

I am a current student undertaking [course code]. I am sorry to contact you in unfortunate circumstances, but I have been having severe difficulty convening with the other members for the remainder of the _____ project. While I am aware that group projects have a dual purpose to both educate us on the academic topic as well as to improve our cooperation and communication skills, I have tried [insert whatever means you attempted to contact them by, attaching evidence is up to you]. I have already completed the intro/background research/other individual task, however I cannot complete the ______ by myself/without group input.

I would appreciate any guidance you could offer/I would greatly appreciate your help/If it is possible, could you please [insert action depending on how desperate you are - don’t ask for anything unreasonable!]?

I apologise for having to inconvenience you, and thank you for your understanding on the matter.

Kind regards,

[Name and student number]

Option 4. You do all the work and then leave their names off the work.

Best suited for people who: work independently, don’t mind burning a few bridges. I won’t actually recommend this option, but I’ve seen this happen in real life.

Pros:

  • Sense of self-satisfaction for some people when the lazy members don’t get a free ride.
  • Again, you make sure the project quality is exactly what you want.

Cons:

  • Similar to Option 1 minus the free ride bit.
  • Not only do the other group members hate you, but their friends in your cohort will too. At least in Option 3, those guys can’t try and gossip behind your backs because whoever they tell will realise that they didn’t do the right thing either.
  • Do this at your own risk, as it can backfire depending on the professor - if anyone’s watched Cheese in the Trap - the main character does all the work but the professor managed to suss out that the other group members didn’t do anything, and as a result penalised her with a D grade for failing to make it “group” work despite the fact she would’ve gotten an A. Some profs are really… they just don’t see it your way :/

Hopefully things don’t have to escalate to Option 4, but whatever you choose to take, I’ll wish you the best! I’ve given quite detailed instructions and written comprehensively, but feel free to contact me any time if you need any more help :)

The Road To Good Grades

[Warning - A Very Lengthy Post]

A fellow student of mine wrote this when for my batch when we entered high school, and I thought I should share it with you ❤️ it’s been edited to make it more universal to you guys :D

Intro: Having the Courage to Study.
When we fail academically, we tend to point to two causes: stupidity and laziness. It’s so easy to say that we’re not smart enough, or that we just don’t want to try because it doesn’t really matter. But there’s another factor involved: fear. So many students have the strategy of not studying or not studying properly for an exam. Why? Because if you put low effort into something, then you should expect a low result. So many of us are afraid of trying and failing that we don’t even try. “What if my best isn’t good enough?” We’re afraid of giving our best because once we know our limits, we feel that much weaker. But life in school isn’t about not trying, it’s about accepting those limits and breaking them.To survive and ultimately thrive, you must have the courage to reach your full potential.That courage, that vigor, that strive to be better is what will keep you alive, not just in school but in the real world.

Guide:
- Sleep and Eat well.
We often lose sleep or skip meals in order to survive the rigors of life.But keep in mind, those choices in the rest and nourishment you receive have consequences. Having the energy to focus throughout the day is vital. Nobody wants to be tired, nobody can afford to be sick.

- Pay Attention in Class.
There’s a difference between passive hearing and active listening. Letting the teacher’s words wash over you like a warm shower is NOT the same as paying attention. Teachers are human beings, capable of expressing emotion and emphasis in their words and actions. There’s a reason why you learn from them rather than from a book or the internet. Catching what they’re trying to say is a skill that takes effort to learn.

**The skill of listening is one of the most important ones to develop because a teacher’s words are your last resort in an examination. If a quiz catches you by surprise, your memory of the class is the difference between A+ and an F.

- Take USABLE Notes.
Normally, humans are not capable of memorizing lessons entirely in their head.That’s what notes are for. Keep in mind that notes should be USABLE, they are not things that you make for the sake of looking or feeling productive. Each person has a specific style of learning and their notes should reflect that. Notes that are too long/elaborate, too short/simple, unreadable, or illogical are detrimental. Good notes should be aids in studying, not justification for carrying notebooks.

**Tips:
- Save time by using abbreviations or acronyms.
- Rearrange/reconstruct words or phrases for convenience.
ex. Famous Authors of America –> Impt. American Authors.
- Avoid copying verbatim unless necessary (quotes).
- Write down examples, esp. in science/math related subjects.
- If notes are incomplete, supplement them via reliable sources or your teacher.

- Practice.
There is more to studying than reading/note-taking. Practice is essential. This is especially true for Math-related subjects. Reading your notes before a Math exam is not really going to help you understand the problem or protect you from careless mistakes. The only way to improve in the subject is by doing the exercises and learning from both your success and failure. Memorizing definitions isn’t as important as using them. Being able to analyze, compare, and contrast is vital to survival.

- Review a Little Bit, Regularly.
Slow and steady wins the race. Students tend to read a ton of material before an exam. However, the human mind requires time in order to fully grasp ideas and concepts. Taking 10-20 minutes to read your notes after school daily can help in memorizing lessons, understanding themes, and recalling important points. Taking every subject’s lessons day by day will prevent you from being overwhelmed.

**Tip:
- When reading through your notes, picture yourself in the classroom with your classmates and teacher. The human mind is like a web, connected by images and sounds. Doing so can help you recall things written on the board or things mentioned by the teacher.

- Learn to Plan and Cram.
Working for the long-term and rushing for the short-term are two opposing ends of the spectrum. But if you don’t master both, you will suffocate in requirements.Time and energy are limited resources and the best scholars know how to get the most out of them. You can’t expect to be able to plan assignments weeks or days in advance the same way you can’t expect to make “academic excellence” in 30 minutes or less like a pizza delivery service.

**Tips:
- Periodic Exams, Long Tests, and Projects REQUIRE planning and coordination.
- Teachers can take up to 5 minutes setting up. Exploit the time.
- Lunchbreak, and the 20 minute breaks are the normal “"cram periods”“.

- Don’t Think of Difficulty.
“Easy” and “Hard” are relative terms. They mean different things to different people and ultimately, they should mean nothing to you. Feeling scared of a “tough” exam is harmful, as is feeling smug about an “easy” one. Study well so you can approach every test with confidence. Remember: it’s just as possible to perfect a difficult test as it is to fail an easy one.

- Don’t Compare Yourself to Others.
The world has approx. 7 billion people. There are always going to be people who are better than you at a given skill, the same way that there will always be people who are worse. Don’t consider them. Your life is your battle, and you’re going to have to fight it for yourself. Being discouraged by your friends’ high scores is as illogical as being encouraged by their low scores. There’s no reason to be proud of 1/10, even if it’s the highest score in the whole class.

- Don’t Blame Teachers.
Not all of your teachers are going to be fair or good at their jobs, whether you like it or not. Regardless, you can’t control your teacher’s incompetence or harshness but you can control the effort you put into their class. Read in advance, find other of info sources, and predict their requirements. The odds may be against you, but as a student you’re expected to beat them.

- Consult.
There’s no shame in asking for help. If you have difficulty in a subject, it always helps to consult with a teacher. Not only does it help in resolving any misconceptions/mistakes, it shows that you’re willing to take the time and effort to do well. To most teachers, that spirit is just as important as the final grade. Note: if a teacher knows that you have difficulty in their subject, they’ll probably take note of it in class which may be to your benefit.

- Find Your Own Strategy/Work Smart.
No single study strategy works universally. Everyone has their own specific style of learning and it’s up to you to find yours. If skimming through readings works for you then go ahead. If you’re the kind that needs to take notes, fine. It’s all about working both hard and smart, giving the most energy but finding the most effective way of using it. Humans are creative creatures. You might find that the best solution is one that no one has thought of before.

- Be Liable.
You need to be proactive in academics. Many students have the tendency to be caught off guard by a surprise quiz. They’ll often argue with the teacher, using the retort “Ma'am, you didn’t announce it!” as an excuse. Shaking off responsibility through ignorance is suicidal in this school. If you’re willing to take the risk of coming to class unprepared for the sake of being lazy, go ahead. Just be prepared for the consequences of your actions.

- Keep Moving Forward.
You’re human. Humans make mistakes. Learn from your errors but leave them where they belong; in the past. Everyone wants to get an A+ but you’ll never go that far with the weight of your failure hanging over your shoulder.

Conclusion: Don’t Take Academics too Seriously.
It seems counter-intuitive to end this guide with a statement like “Don’t Take Academics Too Seriously” but it’s something that everyone should remember. No matter no hard you try, you will fail at something. You’ll reach an obstacle that will knock you down to the ground and it will hurt like hell. You need to have something to fall back; friends, family, a hobby, an interest, etc. You don’t want to graduate and realize that you’re only good at earning numbers in a system.You could graduate this high school with the highest average in history but it won’t matter to anyone if you don’t know how you got it. Life is just like math, it’s not all
about the final answer. Your solution is just as important.

**Ultimately, your success as a scholar isn’t measured by a number on a piece of paper but in the difference you make in people’s lives. We’re not going to carry facts and theorems with us, but an attitude of trying to give our best no matter what the cost. That’s the most important lesson you can ever learn in school, but you’re not going to learn it from one subject or teacher. You’re going to live it everyday through every requirement and every grade receive.

What are the Odds?

Summary: After a summer of messing around, you were now ready for your first day as a NYPD officer. However, nothing could have prepared you for the surprise that was in store for you. Your team consists of all your summer one-night-stands. What are the odds? (Modern-Day Alternate Universe, Possible Drabble Series)

I’ve been thinking about professor!magnus and soldier!alec since yesterday and idk if I want to commit myself to writing something like that when I know nothing about the army but I feel like there could be something very heartbreaking about it.

Like maybe Alec is about to be deployed and it’s his what… 2nd? 3rd? tour and he’s happy to be unattached, despite what his siblings always say, because he knows how hard it is to be separated from the ones he loves but also to be left behind and he doesn’t want to do that to someone. So he doesn’t date and he doesn’t have a lot of close friends apart from his family and it’s ok, hes doing something important, serving his country and following his family’s footsteps (ofc they’d be a big military family) but then he meets Magnus … Idk where, somewhere random like a bookstore or grocery store or the outdoor market Izzy dragged him to and sparks  f l y. And Alec is confused/overwhelmed and reluctant despite Magnus flirting 110% with him. Maybe they exchange numbers maybe not, maybe they randomly meet again and Magnus is like uh funny twist of fate *flirty grin* and Alec is just…. abort mission holy shit help ???Because even though he’s had flings and hooks up, he’s never had a crush or somebody that made him go w o w  like this and it’s new? But he kinda wants to break his rule and say yes when the hot college professor asks him out and that’s new and kinda scary but he blurts out yes before he can fully think about it or change his mind. Of course, he has a nervous breakdown afterward and Izzy is like pls find your chill but he can’t find his chill cause he’s going away to get shot at in less than 3 months and the timing couldn’t more off and that’s not fair to Magnus to get him involved like that… Because, of course, Alec is the type of person to worry too much before anything even happens. Anyway, so they go on a date maybe a walk at dusk and some ice cream?? Idk why but I’m imagining this is set in a small coastal town? They can walk near the water while talking about everything and nothing?? I’m seeing a make out session on top of a lighthouse? Anyway, when Alec tells Magnus what he does and where he’s going he’s all sorry about that I should have told you straight away when you asked me out but Magnus is all its ok lets just see where this goes, it doesn’t have to be serious since you’re leaving so soon and they agree to have a fling… but feelings happen and it’s inconvenient!!!

I like imagining Alec walking Magnus to his classes when he’s stayed over the night before (Magnus teaches history in this, I feel it). And maybe on mornings he wasn’t at Magnus’ he does a little detour on his morning run to buy him breakfast and he leaves it in his office during the 8am lecture that Magnus hates so that he’ll have something nice after that hardship, a little muffin and a coffee with a cute note on the cup ‘cause Alec is sappy af even though he tries very hard to hide it. And maybe he buys Magnus peonies at some point, just because they’re pretty and Magnus is pretty and he’s never bought flowers for anyone before and he wanted to… And Magnus keeps teasing him flowers are not casual Mister!! because it’s easier to flirt and tease than to acknowledge the fact that Alec is leaving really soon and he might not come back, and Magnus isn’t even important enough to be considered someone he’s leaving behind (or at least that’s how he feels). Magnus tries not to think about it but he’s obsessing over the idea that he doesn’t even know Alec’s family and friends, doesn’t know anyone who would tell him if something happened??? But he doesn’t want to bring it up because it’s supposed to be casual and meaningless, something that ends when the semester ends. So they keep going on dates and Alec cooks for him and Magnus tries to ignore the uneasy feeling growing in his chest as time flies too fast. Until there aren’t any time left and Alec is leaving. So they take a walk just like their first date and they have ice cream and they make love and they definitely don’t talk about it even though they both know that they should and Alec just… leaves.

And Magnus tries not to have a hard time about it but it’s tough and he’s grateful it’s the end of the semester ‘cause at least he’s busy between marking terrible essays and correcting exams. He goes out with his friends from the history department once they’re all done and he tries to have a fun time, but truth is… he’s worried. He starts watching the news a little too obsessively and his friends don’t like it but he can’t help himself.

Alec has been gone three weeks when the first letter comes. It takes Magnus by surprise at first because in all the times they’ve been together Alec has always been a man of little words. That’s not to say he was emotionally unavailable or unwilling to discuss things and his feelings, but this is new, the way the words flow easily on the page like it was no hardship at all to put it all down, descriptions of his unit and where he is, a full paragraph about how much he misses Magnus’ cat and nothing about them at all. But Magnus gets it, he sees it for what it is, a peace offering maybe or a stubborn unwillingness to let go, so he writes back. He talks about his students, their successes and their struggles, and his friends, little things that have reminded him of Alec since he’s been gone. Soft stories for a soft boy in a hard place. And they keep going back and forth, sending each other little pieces of their respective lives and it should be enough, it’s more than Magnus expected, but it’s tough and he misses Alec like a limb, misses him in his bed and in his kitchen, misses him when summer classes start and he has no one to hold his hand on his way to work, no callused fingers to wrap around his… But every new letter is a blessing. It says many things but underneath it all, the most important message is I’m still here, I’m alive and I’m thinking about you.

Okay so maybe it all comes to a halt one day when his phone rings and it’s Alec on the line, after all those weeks, all those months, and he sounds like h e l l  and he’s there on the phone, apologizing to Magnus because his phone bill is gonna be awful but I …. I just… I needed to hear your voice Magnus, I’m sorry. You… you c-can send me the bill if you want, I just… and it takes everything Magnus has for him not to break down and cry right there and then because Alec really doesn’t sound okay and he has no idea what happened and he has no idea what they are but that’s his boy there on the phone who’s hurting and he hasn’t heard his voice in weeks… So Magnus is like Please shut up about my phone bill, I don’t give a fuck about that. How are you? Are you okay? What happened? And Alec is reluctant to talk about it, doesn’t want to give any details, just keeps saying rough day, Magnus, rough day in this small voice and Magnus hates it more than he’s ever hated anything in his life. He doesn’t want to push Alec too hard so he just asks what can I do? and he hates the way his voice shakes, he wishes he could be stronger than this but Alec doesn’t seem to mind, he just sighs like he’s tired deep in his bones, deep in his soul, and says: just talk to me. So Magnus does, he rambles on nervously about what he had for breakfast and what he taught today, his lecture plan for tomorrow, his neighbor’s hatred for his cat and his favorite designer on the new season of Project Runway. He just babbles on, hoping it can help. All he wants to do is help. Alec hums here and there, asks a few questions, especially about Magnus’ work and at some point he runs out of things to say. There’s a beat of silence before he whispers I love you and he knows that won’t help but he can’t keep it inside anymore, he can’t live with this trapped inside of him, fighting to break free. Alec sighs again. I.. I w-wish… You… you shouldn’t say that. Don’t say that, please. It shouldn’t take Magnus by surprise but it does and it hurts. Me not saying it won’t make it untrue Alexander. Alec groans in frustration and Magnus can picture it perfectly, the way he’s probably bent over, head between his knees, one hand harshly buried in his hair. I didn’t want to put you through that. I didn’t want to put anyone through that but especially not you. He’s so noble and he’s so caring and Magnus knew that already but it hits him again, hard, that this is a man who puts others before himself every single time and who will fight tooth and nail anyone who dares try taking care of him. So Magnus does his best to sound as stern as he can:  Well just too bad because I’m here and you’re there and I love you. And you wishing it hadn’t happened won’t change anything and if you like me even the tiniest bit you’ll call me again because I have been worried sick.

Alec calls every week after that. There’s a new kind of anxiety that comes with waiting for the phone call, waiting for the confirmation that Alec is okay, but Magnus is happy to live with it when it means he can hear Alec’s voice once a week, warm and soft when he asks Magnus what he’s been up to and insists to be put on the phone with the cat. I don’t want him to forget me!

That boy.

They don’t talk about what they are again and it takes until Alec is back on American soil, his head buried in Magnus’ neck so no one can see him cry, for him to say I love you back, but it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t need it. For now, Magnus cherishes every time his phone rings and he gets connected to Alec, he cherishes every time he can make him laugh, he cherishes every single plan they start making, every single hint that they can have a future together.

It’s enough.

With a satisfied smile, you shut the neon notebook. Hours of studying and hard work all for final exams. You love final exams, not the way Hermione likes final exams, but the way Ron and Harry like final exams: because it means summer is close. Summer, where you can watch netflix all night and sleep all day. It’s really great.

What also makes final exams so great is the fact that you’re a really good test taker. Weeks and weeks in advance are spent studying and organizing elaborate schedules. Blistered fingers from highlighting and scribbling and not to mention the celebratory twinkies for each paragraph you read in a textbook.

Needless to say, everyone always wants to be your study partner and you can’t blame them.

You shut off the desk lamp before reaching your arms up in a relieving stretch.

You had pulled up the soft blankets of your delicately decorated bed and prepared to settle into sleep when-

“Aah!”

You slapped a hand over your mouth, startled at the moan that slipped from your mouth.

In your defense, there was a feeling that caused the sound. You had become aware of the wet feeling between your legs and you cussed loudly.

“Fuck. Please don’t do this n-n-hNG!” You collapsed onto the bed, shoving your face into to muffle the moans.

You pull up the sleeve and turn your wrist over. The lines of the heart birthmark imprinted onto your skin was a scarlet color, deep and seducing.

You know what the means.

Everyone knows what that means, actually. When the soulmate mark is blue, it means they’re sad, black means dead, green means asleep, pink means embarrassed, yellow means happy, purple means injured, and red means-

A sudden whimper escapes your mouth and you quickly shove your face back into the pillow. Your body is now trembling wildly. If anyone walked in right now (which you doubted would happen since it’s eleven thirty at night) they’d probably think you were crying.

You bit down on your lip, holding in wanton pants. Is your soulmate going through heat or something?! Sure, you guys get horny and need to rub one out sometimes. I mean you’re human, but what the fuck is going on right here?

What the fuck is going on with your soulmate in general?! For one, there were random spurts of purple hearts on your wrist. You couldn’t count how many times you’d woken up with bruises on your rib cage.

But never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever  has your soulmate gotten so horny so quick. Usually you can just…feel when it’s about to happen and you’ve got some kind of warning or advanced notice.

You felt yourself pulsing, begging for the release but your soulmate had a surprising ability to drag out an orgasm.

Wherever the fuck that came from because if you knew your soulmate (and you do) then you know that he’s definitely a guy because only a guy could cum in less than fifteen seconds.

Talk about stereotypes.

But now all of a sudden this is a fanfiction worthy orgasm. Like. One you’d read in a fic with Bucky Barnes (who doesn’t read Bucky fanfiction? He’s everyone’s dream soulmate).

You couldn’t help yourself when you decided to hurry up this session so you could get some sleep. You spread your legs, blushing like crazy, and reach your hand down.

You can feel your soulmate’s heart skip a thousand beats when he realizes you’ve joined him.

By the end of the night, Peter was laying in his bed, breathing heavily. “Holy shit,” he managed to say to himself. There was a pinch on his arm, his soulmate’s response.

Then there was a smack against his cheek, which actually kind hurt. Ink showed up on his arm, swirly cursive handwriting yelling at him:

JUST WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?? I HAVE A TEST IN FOUR HOURS DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS THAT’S RIGHT IT’S 4 IN THE DAMN MORNING SOO I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU THINK STAYING UP AND GETTING OFF IS GOING TO DO SO LET ME GIVE YOU A HINT IT’S GOING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED THAT’S WHAT THANKS FOR NOTHING ASSHAT PEACE OUT FUCKER

You throw the sharpie across the room, the cap popping off when it hit the wall and resulting in ink being spattered over the paint job. “Mother fucker,” you hiss, balling up knots of hair in your hands.

There was a tickle on the palm of your hand. You look down and see ink spelling out: sorry :)

“Whatever.”

|Spider-Mans Sis| Peter Parker

Big Brother!Peter Parker x Little Sister!Reader

Requested: I was wondering if you could write a Big Brother! Peter Parker & Little Sister! Teen! Reader where the reader is a year younger than Peter. She knows he is Spiderman, and she is always supporting Peter. Reader is very outgoing, easily excited, laughs at almost everything, and just very dorky? One day she is getting picked on by Flash and Peter gets into a fight with Flash, and at the end, Peter cheers the reader up by making funny faces and voices while as Spiderman? I hope that isn’t too specific.

@chris-evans-imagines

Warnings: Peter punches someone… woops, a bit of cussing, nothing else i think

A/N: Sorry it took a bit longer than expected! (I have exams this week and they’re a bitch) I hope you enjoy! Also thanks so much for 2.5k!!

~~~~~~~~~~
Being Spider-Mans sister must seem pretty great. But to be honest…
It’s the BEST thing ever! Like whenever I’m late, I’ll just text Peter and if he isn’t busy he’ll just swing by. The only downside is that I can’t tell anyone. I can’t tell anyone my brother is a bad-ass. Especially Flash. Ugh- He just annoys the shit out of me. He picks on Peter and I all the time and I have to bite my tongue to stop myself from basically telling him to shut his mouth cause he’s bullying a superhero.
“Hey- Y/N-” I looked up from my food tray at Ned.
“Huh?” I must have spaced out.
“You’ve been staring at your food for like- five minutes.” I giggled.
“Sorry- I guess I spaced out.” I picked my fork up and started to eat the mashed potatoes on my tray.
“What were you thinking about?” Peter asked. I shrugged and swallowed my food before I spoke.
“Just high school. And the fact I have three more years in this hell hole.” We all chuckled and Ned and Peter went back to their conversation
“But seriously Peter, I think you could kick Tony Starks ass.” Ned flung his hands in the air while talking.
“No- Mr. Stark knows everything about my suit. He could destroy me in a second, he’d probably go for my web shooters cause that’s a key function on my suit and I use it the most.”
“Yeah- but you could web him up in a second before he could shoot your… webbers,” I said, siding with Ned. They both laughed.
“Webbers?” Ned asked, then laughed again. I thought for a second and then laughed loudly. I seriously just said webbers? I let out a snort and then a voice roared behind me.
“Y/N!” I stopped laughing and turned in my seat. “Pipe it down- will ya? Your laugh is annoying.” Flash said from the table beside us. I looked back at my food with a pissed look planted on my face.
“Just ignore him, Y/N. Your laugh just probably interrupted the emptiness in his head.” Peter said, taking a bite out of his sandwich. We all looked at each other in silence and then broke out into laughter for the second time.
“Hey!” I stopped laughing once again and groaned, giving my attention to Flash. “You sound like a hyena. Stop it.” The girls at his table laughed and I rolled my eyes. When I looked back, Peter was pushing himself up from the table.
“Pete-”
“Don’t pick on my sister, Flash. You’re just pissed she isn’t wrapped around your finger like any other girl here.” Peter said as he walked up to their table, right in front of Flash.
“I could care less. She’s a Parker. Anyone related to you has to be a loser.” Flash had stood up from his seat and began walking around the table to Peter. I stood up as well and walked towards them both.
“Shut up. Or you’ll regret it.” Peter snapped. My eyes widened. He wouldn’t hit Flash, would he? Flash walked up to him and looked at the girls.
“Like Penis Parker wou-” Before Flash could finish his sentence he looked back at Peter and was greeted by his fist.
“Peter!” I said, pushing him away from Flash, who was on the floor crying in pain.
“I’m sorry- I don’t know what came over me!” Peter hoarsely whispered. I looked around us at the lunch room. Everyone was silent and looking at us. A certain someone caught my eye though.
“Peter Parker!” The principal yelled from across the room. “Flash Thompson! My office. Now.”
~~~~~~~~~~

I looked out over the city from the roof of my apartment building. I normally come up here to clear my mind but for some reason, my mind was still clouded with the thought of Peter having to be stuck in detention for eight weeks because of me. I let out a sigh as a familiar man in red spandex plopped down next to me. I didn’t glance at him and continued to look over the tall buildings. Before Peter could make small talk I spoke up.

“I’m sorry,” I said.

“What for? It’s not your fault.”

“In a way it is. If it wasn’t for me you wouldn’t have gotten detention.” Tears stung my eyes but I blinked them away. “Maybe if my laugh wasn’t so annoying-”

“Hey- Your laugh isn’t annoying at all. Flash is just an ass.” I looked at Peter and I could tell he was slightly smiling through his mask. I sighed and looked back out over the city. A few moments passed and then Peter’s spider symbol detached from his chest. It flew and landed on his head. “Y/N please laugh.” A loud, manly voice roared calmly. My eyes widened and shot to Peter. A few moments of silence went by, which was then broken my booming laugh. Peter chuckled too which was then deepened by the spider a top his head. My hand moved to my stomach which was starting to hurt. I started to talk in between my laughs.

“That spider- sounds- like its hit puberty- before you!” His eye glasses widened and his jaw dropped, which made me laugh even more.

“I can’t believe you just said that!” Peter said through the spider, but his voice cracked on ‘believe’. We both laughed harder, and I let out a snort. After our laughter died down I sighed and wiped a tear away.

“Thanks, Pete,” I said, smiling out over the city.

“Anything for my little (Y/N/N) bean.” He said, ruffling my hair and putting an arm around me. “Now how about I go get out of this suit and we can get some Thai.” He said, jumping up and offering a hand to me. I pretended to think for a second.

“Hmmm. You know… Thai doesn’t sound half bad.”

“That’s how I burned down part of Hydra’s base.”, (Y/N) spoken softly. Tears that she didn’t know was hiding were now rolling down. Nobody said anything. They were shocked by what the girl went though at the age of seven.

“They were trying to program me. Their intentions were to create fighters better than the Winter Soldier and Black Widow.”

“If they can control them we are have a big problem.”, Tony stated as he tried to emphasize how serious the problem was.

“How many are they?”

“I don’t know”, the last events weren’t leaving her mind, “Probably 8 or less. I don’t know how many survived.”

“As far as we know the base is still whole. You may have burnt down part of it.”, Steve declared as he stood up and began walking.

“What did you feel?”, Bruce asked all of a sudden.

“What do you mean?”

“What did you feel right before you burnt the base?”

“Oh. I- um…fire. Yeah, definitely fire, but not literally. I mean, it was -“

“Relieving? Taking you whole, feeling powerful because of the rage built inside you and yet it somehow calms you down?”, Banner finished her sentence.

“Exactly.”, (Y/N) was amazed by this. Mr. Banner wasn’t lying her when he had said he cannot control his anger that easily.

“What about when we found you?”, Wanda questioned as she understood what Bruce was attempting to o.

“Scared. Naked. Exposed. Breakable.”

“Mixed feeling, paranoia overwhelming you?”

“Yes.”, after some seconds Banner revealed his thoughts making them a statement.

“I think I know what your powers are.”

Ten minutes later the whole gang was in the training room waiting to see what the young witch was capable of.

“Are you sure Mr. Banner?”

“Call me Bruce, please.”, her gave the girl a smile and nodded, “Yes, I am.”

“But how can I control the elements? I mean, how did you find this out?”

“Fire is symbolized by rage, anger. It the Greek Mythology Ares, the furious god of war, is always drawn with red paint and flames around him. Also, when you said a great amount of different feeling overwhelmed you, it showed me that you can control earth. When we found you, your first action was to use those spikes to warn or kill the people trying to disturb you. Earth is believed to give humans stability. So basically your powers had tried to calm your mind down by using the ground as a weapon. But when Peter entered you shelter you were again taken by your fears making unstable and unpredictable like the wind.”

“So my emotional condition affects my powers?”

“That’s right. So now we would try to teach you how to use them without letting the emotions taking you over.”, Steve patted the girl on her shoulder.

“What if I hurt you?”

“Do not worry about us.”, Tony smiled in order to reassure her.

Ten minutes later all the Avengers were in a shield created by Wanda with her powers in the second floor of the training room. It wasn’t a whole floor just a part of it from where the instructor could watch or could enter the premises.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I present you the great Avengerrrrs.”, (Y/N) ‘announced’ with a sarcastic tone in her formal voice, “Good to know old men and women are scared of a puny girl.”, Wanda who was standing against the girl laughed as she saw her friends trying to protect themselves in the shield she had created.

“Hey, don’t blame us that we value our lives and want to keep them as longer as possible.”, Tony acted as a drama queen placing his hand over  the place where his heart was supposed to be.

“Guys, you must accept it. She is right.”

“Why don’t you shut up and show the girl whatever you are going to show her.”

“As you wish Mr. Stank.”, Wanda retorted back and turned around to face (Y/N). The girl was nervous as she was able to see. Her hands were slightly shaking and she kept rubbing them against her clothes in order to remove the sweat, “So, I am going to attack you. Don’t worry i won’t hurt you. You just have to try to protect yourself somehow by using your energy. Just before that do not panic about the situation, that’s the most important thing you have to do. Breathe and then try to look deep inside you, searching for the power you want. Think about it, think how you want it to look, what and how you are going to do with it.”, the girl nodded but she felt nothing from this instructions was going to be fulfilled.

Wanda’s fingers were moving and seconds later they were shining in red but the woman wasn’t attacking her yet. (Y/N) did her best to follow the advice. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment. She had four powers and only one was able to protect her right now– air. The girl remembered the feeling when she had attacked Peter. The air was tickling the tips if her fingers. She looked for that feeling again but nothing happened. No strange feeling inside her, no power felt. She opened her eyes just in time to see Wanda’s magic coming towards her. She kneeled down to avoid it.

“Don’t give up. It won’t happen from the first time.”, Steve said.

The girl inhaled and exhaled deeply this time trying with another power. There wasn’t ground or water her so she had to use fire. This time was the same failure.

“Nothing is happening.”, the girl stated after her seventh attempt, “I feel nothing inside me, only darkness. Guess why? Because my fucking eyes are fucking closed!”

“Language!”, Steve called from inside the shield.

“Sorry.”, the girl gave the man an innocent smile but deep inside her she was feeling the same way as she had felt in the Hydra base – as a failure, miserable failure that cannot do anything. What was she doing here? Why did she even trust those guys? Why the hell was she thinking the brown haired teenager is attractive? A lot of questions suddenly filled her mind making her feel odd, questioning all her actions since she exploded part of the base. What is she even?

“Earth to (Y/N)! Are you listening?”, Peter’s voice took her out of the trans she had been immersed in.

“Yes…no, sorry! It’s just… I’m sucking. I can’t protect myself by creating a stupid shield from air or fire. I don’t know how to use my powers and how to control them! It’s driving me crazy when I am failing at things. Especially this!”, the girl shouted as soon as despair filled her body. She wasn’t going to give up, no. She was going to fight with teeth until she reached the final but all those events that happened in the last three days…it was too heavy for her to bear.

“(Y/n), hey, you can do it. I know you can. You’ve gone through a lot and this…this stupid thing cannot stop you. You are brave, you are-”, Peter had approached the red shield separating the two teenagers that were slowly falling under the love curse of each other. His voice was soft, his intentions good and it was felt. But the girl was too gentle. Not like a flower that would break under a slightly rougher touch, but like a bomb that was going to explode if the person holding her didn’t know how to defuse it. Peter was from those who were about to get killed because of the wrong actions he made.

“You don’t know me to tell me what I am! I do not know what I am!”, she screamed at the boy. Her body was moving on its own. For a moment (Y/N) felt as a prisoner. She was seeing what she was doing but she couldn’t control herself. The girl felt it, the power that was running through her veins, that was slowly taking control of her hands, mind, thoughts…Her hands were on fire. She moved them towards the shield sending a fire orb. At first the shield swallowed it but then it began swelling and the fire finally was in charge. The shield was now like a cell keeping its victims. The small prison was causing troubles with their ability to inhale. Wanda did something and the small hell torture was gone. The girl was standing there, her feet glued to the ground not letting her move. She was like a living stone – looking unbreakable and hard but this event causing her to crack from inside. When she saw the avengers’ looks she finally felt what she was trying to hide. She was a dangerous weapon, the desired weapon from Hydra that could kill thousands of people without caring at first place. She felt guilt, but more important – part of her felt good.

“I told you we would need a shield.”, Tony stated as he and the rest of the group gave it a try to stand up. Most of them were shocked about what had happened. Of course, not about themselves but the girl. She was shocked – looking at a spot on the wall between the heads of her victims, not moving, pale as snow. Her bottom lip was shaking as her hands did.

“I-I…I am -”, they all knew she was going to apologize but it was hard for her to find the right words.

“Hey, kid, we are used to having our asses kicked. You haven’t hurt anyone, no need to worry.”, Steve rushed towards (Y/N) in order to calm the girl down. He knew what Hydra was capable of and what the girl had gone through was infernal. It would have been unnatural if she was stable.

“But I could have.”, Steve saw the tears forming in her (y/e/c) eyes. Seeing this little girl beside him made his heart shrink. How could he not see the broken, the innocent, the lost girl? He only thought of her as a way Hydra to entice them…He was supposed to be a superhero, to have faith in everything, to see the good in every bad. The blonde man had no idea what to say as though a cat had gotten his tongue. He opened his mouth to say something, to help this little girl who had lost everything in her life but he closed it seconds later.

Wanda came closer as she knew (Y/N) trusted her more than the others. Peter followed her actions but as soon as they were next to the girl she ran away.

“(Y/N)!”, Peter called after the girl and was about to run after her but Steve grabbed him, “She needs help!”, he demanded and tried to  escape the strong grip with no luck.

“She needs to be alone with herself right now, Pete. I think we might have damaged her more rather than helping.”

The next week (Y/N) was distant. She talked only with Wanda and Bruce and trained only with them. The others tried to make her feel as at home she never had but the girl was barely giving in. She was stubborn, that was for sure, but with nights spent at her room with Wanda she understood how wrong her actions are.

“You are not doing anything bad, but how they are trying to help and you should not be scared that you will hurt them. I know how you feel. When I began my training here I wasn’t as good as now, I almost crashed the training room down.”, the woman laughed at the thought that just appeared in her head, “I remember Tony’s face when he came down and saw one of the walls missing.”

“Really?”. The girl laughed along with her new best friend.

“Yes. He made me practice outside even after he repaired it.”, Wanda looked at (Y/N) feeling her as the little sister she never had, “See, no matter what happens they are going to be your family only if you let them. They are strange I can assume, we had out times of division but we came back together.”

It was 8.00 pm. (Y/N) was lying on her bed thinking about Wanda’s words as she tent to do the last three days. The girl felt Wanda as a sister she could trust. She believed her and knew that all the things she had told her were true. Strangely this people were trying to give her a home, to give her a family and she was backing. Why? Was it because it was happening too fast? Maybe because it felt so unreal that it was more possible to be Hydra test than a part of the reality? Only in her first day here she told them her whole story, she was given a private room, they tried to help her with her powers. And what did she do? She almost killed them and ran away crying like a baby…Yeah, a really good first impression. The girl had to accept the information that Hydra was away, not torturing her, not going after her or if they did, she was safe here with people to protect her and teach her how to do the same.

For a week she slightly improved her powers. Well, she still wasn’t able to control them but for now she didn’t need to be so angry to use any of her powers. The girl was trying to use the built in her rage to call her powers instead of letting the anger take control over her. (Y/N) was happy with the results for only one week and this success was one of the things encouraging her to go to the living room where the Avengers were meeting every night to eat and relax somehow.

(Y/N) stood up and looked in the mirror. She was wearing pink pajamas with unicorns on them which was definitely not her style. But what could she do? Wanda was too happy to call somebody a sister… The witch opened the wardrobe. The first time she did so she was amazed how big it was and most importantly that it was full of clothes fitting her perfectly. Now, she was kind of used to it but not at all. The girl took out comfortable jeans and a pale blue t-shirt. After dressing up she exited the room. Taking a deep breath she guided her legs towards the living room which was on the floor below. As she reached the glass door she looked inside. They were all scattered around the room – some on the sofas, some on the armchairs, and some on the floor. (Y/N) inhaled and exhaled deeply and then opened the door. The Avengers didn’t hear it because they were immersed in their conversation but e certain one did with his super senses.

The boy turned around and as the two lovebirds, as Tony liked to call them, saw each other they both stopped doing whatever they were for a moment. (Y/N) looked directly at Peter and for a moment it was only the two of them. The girl hated this feeling but as she had no powers in her emotions, neither on her hearth.

“(Y/N)!”, Wanda exclaimed and ran towards her to give her a hug. The Avengers looked at the girl surprised.

“Ms. (Y/N)!”, Thor came and ruffled her hair, “I am so happy to see you there.”, by his voice, the girl understood he had drank something but his relaxed behavior around her, the fact he was himself made her smile.

“Hello everyone!”, she greeted the gang and sat down next to Wanda and opposite Peter who was now giving her e reassuring smile. She smiled back, “Can I have a slice?”, she asked as the witch pointed at the three pizzas in front of her.

“Of course!”, Tony answered as he poured another glass of alcohol, “But hurry up because Thor is going to eat them all.”

(Y/N) laughed and joined the Avengers that night. At first she thought she wouldn’t fit there but she couldn’t have been more wrong. This was the first time from ages she felt happy again, she felt loved and welcomed. She wasn’t scared anymore, neither in pain. She was feeling young, carefree, free as a teenager should feel. The witch felt normal and for once in her whole life, she forgot about the nightmares that chased her each night.

actual useful study tips

i’m going to keep this short-ish and shitty and un-proofread because i only have like 6 followers but it’s finals week and i keep seeing these awful study tips everywhere that are like “drink water” and “don’t get distracted on the internet” and other unrealistic stuff like that, so here is a REALISTIC students guide to pulling ur semester together, written by a truly apathetic student still clinging onto the deans list (me). enjoy and share as u wish

Originally posted by get-meowtta-here

1. make study plans with a distant acquaintance who you think is cooler than you. do you want their first impression of you to be 20 minutes late, saying “oops i just realized i haven’t taken notes all semester?” no u want to impress them! knowing a complete strangers opinion of you is on the line, you can use this to find the strength to make a great looking study guide, or actually add to the google doc instead of just reading what everyone else wrote. bonus points if you make plans to meet at 10am.

2. fuck the “stay focused” app. if you are anything like me you know it takes about 15 minutes max to download a new browser and you’re back to doing the same exact thing you were before, but on firefox instead of google chrome. plus, we all have cell phones, so blocking tumblr on my computer just means i have to look at smaller pictures. WHAT U HAVE TO DO is find a person you trust, preferably your parents or someone in another state/country who you can’t hound in-person and who WILL. NOT. CRACK. u give them your login information for your social media apps (i do this every finals week with Facebook and tumblr for at least a day or 2 or before my hardest exam) and you have them change your password. it’s life changing.

3. look at gifs of hermione granger and rory gilmore. literally role play as them, dress like them if you have to. they just have it so together!! how!!

4. before you leave your dorm ASK YOURSELF “do i reaaaallyyy need my computer?” and if you don’t need it to study, don’t bring it with you. don’t bring your phone either unless you need music. i am an international relations/art history major and the answer for me personally is “no” 99.9% of the time because all my exams are based off readings/in class notes. the next step is to go to the library, or wherever you study, and bring nothing but good old fashioned papers with you.

4b. if you have readings to do print them out. i kill about 8 trees per semester by printing off hundreds of pieces of paper and while environmentally i feel sort of guilty about it, it’s the actual only way i can read anything without my eyes glazing over, or ending up on style.com looking at Diors F/W 2002 collection. plus you can ~highlight~ and annotate better.

5. white noise is your best friend. rainymood.com and white noise generator are 1000x better than the most mellow spotify playlist, imo, or at least work really well in the background. (personally i don’t like studying to music with vocals because the words distract me but if white noise isn’t enough u can do sigur ros or instrumental music) however, when it’s the early morning hours and you feel like you’re about to crash show tunes can and will keep you going. i recommend “you can’t stop the beat” from hairspray and anything from mamma mia.

6. if possible, make friends with someone who has a car. burger king can make or break you at 2am.

7. TREAT YASELF. i never eat healthy during finals week and i don’t trust people who do. but if you actually get up early to study you deserve the largest dunking donuts or most expensive latte. and if you are up at 3am, yes you not only can but should get 3 different chip bags from the vending machine. (i swear crunching helps me stay awake anyways)

8. nothing is a better break than a walk outside. this is not an opinion this is a fact. even if you just go stand outside and take 10 deep breaths. or lay in grass for 2 minutes. and if it’s a nice sunset go let yourself watch it.

9. do not “dress for success,” wear the most comfortable clothes that you own (but not pajama pants or ur fucked. ANYWHERE is a bed when u r wearing pajama pants, in personal experience). also, something to get your hair away from your face/eyes (like a bandana or something stretchy though not a hard headband) is a GAME CHANGER

10. you would be surprised how not-rude people are if you mass-email your class with questions or in need of assistance. whether you need to borrow the book or missed a day (or 5) of notes, throwing an email into the wind usually won’t fail you!! *bonus tip: offer to bake cookies or buy food for who ever helps you. it will make u seem cute/friendly/thankful/desperate and they will NEVER actually ask u to follow through. i once got like 5 days of missed notes AND a girl lent me her flash cards by doing this.*

11. do your bibliography as you research!! there is officially no worse feeling than finally finishing a paper at 3:47am and then realizing you have to add in your citations and make your works cited. save yourself.

12. don’t go out less, but go home earlier. instead of skipping a party or movie night or general get together with friends completely, go from 11pm-1am. it gives you the literal entire day to still study, if you get back at 1am you can drink a gallon of water and watch a 22 minute episode of something, be asleep at 1:30am and still wake up at like 9:30 the next day to keep working. those are the best hours of any party anyways and you don’t have to miss out on the memories just for some shitty number grade.

13. if you decide to take a napping break, do it on a couch or futon with all the lights on, not in your bed. you get ur horizontal time in but it’s much more difficult to actually sleep for an entire night in this position, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally not waking up.

14. if you get really stressed look up facts about how big the universe is and how small and short lived and tiny humans are in comparison. or a ted talk about how grades can’t measure intelligence, or about how all humans are meant to be artists. OR watch an episode of BBC planet earth. this always comforts me for some reason.

i am struggling to come up with more, so there’s my realistic study guide for all my fellow students out there. enjoy finals, and remember!! 2 years after graduation employers consider it “juvenile” to include your GPA on your resume :)

It’s been two weeks since Mr Evans’ funeral, James’ mum informs them sombrely she clicks on her left indicator to leave the train station carpark. Sirius shoots James a look, but James just stares out the window and counts the number of garden gnomes they pass.

(Nobody has garden gnomes in London, except Notorious Nick from halls in first year, and even then, he’d stolen them.

He’d let James help him go at them with cricket bats in the courtyard after exams. Smashing a ceramic gnome with a swing that would’ve scored a six was one of life’s finer pleasures, he’d decided.)

“How long are you boys staying for?” Euphemia asks, and this earns James another look from Sirius.

“Not sure yet,” Sirius says, but he’s still giving James that look, the one that tells James when he’s being too depressing, or too melancholy, and Sirius is this close to calling his mum about it. It’s a look that says why are you keeping secrets from us?

“A while, I think,” James says.

“Oh?” Euphemia tries to make eye contact with James through the rearview mirror, but he stares steadfastly at the back of the headrest in front of him.

“Is it alright if we go to Pete’s before dinner?”

She pauses, trying to weigh the situation. “Of course.”

James sits back and starts on the gnomes again.

Jolting awake from a sudden thunderous bang in the pin drop quietness of the lecture hall, you raise your head up angrily and stare up still in a daze. Your hands rub your eyes sluggishly to rid them of the leftover blurriness of sleep before trying your best to locate the source of the disturbance. Looking around the room, a few frustrating expressions pair with the scribbling sound of pencils on exam papers, you concluded that you had for once not slept pass the ending of the class. Finally, your eyes land on a boy 5 rows in front of you who’s nervously picking up his textbook, apologizing profusely to the 20 pairs of eyes glaring daggers his way.

Fucking Brian, always with his clumsiness.

A low grunt escapes your lips as you glare down toward the flustered boy nervously pushing his textbook underneath the ugly blue plastic chair of the rundown lecture hall with his foot. Now, normally you’re not so uptight that you’d be cussing someone out for an accident. It happens, especially during a high stress period like midterm week. However, what he did just now cost you one of the most amazing dream ever, or dirtiest… or maybe you need holy water kind of dream, depends on who’s talking.

Dozing off in class wasn’t a rare occurrent for you. Math has always been one of those subject that comes to you without much struggle which leaves plenty of time for day dreaming about nighttime activities. Actually, what is a rare occurrent would be you attending class. Sign up for a late class, your best friend had said, it’d be easier to get to class since you’re already awake, he said. No chance of being late to class from oversleeping. Well he was right about the not being late to class part. You can’t technically be late if you never bother with showing up to begin with. What a load of bullshit. If anything, the tiredness built upon itself and by 4 o’clock, your body physically give up. Regret welcomes you in its cold embrace every single time you drag your feet across the grossly worn out, stains filled carpet of the 100 years old math building. If it wasn’t regret, it’d be the constant stress to your poor heart every time it creaks from the settling cold of dusk. You wouldn’t be surprise to see it completely in ruined one of these day. Honestly, how is the building even in function still.

Having nothing better to do after finishing the exam early, you resorted to your usual activity during class time. As much as you enjoy the thrill of solving problems, sitting through a 2 hours lecture just isn’t your thing, even worse when there’s nothing to do after an exam. You lost count of how many people that had asked why you even bother showing up to class just to fall asleep 5 minutes into the lesson.

“Oh, they threaten me if i don’t start showing up to class, i’d get academic probation. Plus they say they’re considering kicking me off the cheer squad so you know, sleep here sleep at home… it’s the same shit.”

That was one of those lie you told so often it’s slowly becoming the truth. You could be strap onto a lie detector right now and neither will you sweat nor blink. What choice do you have but to deceive everyone. Plus, it’s not even that important of a lie, white lie even. If you told them the real reasons, probation would be the last thing you’d need to worry about. It’s not as if you can publicly declare your love for the hot professor. Actually, that in itself isn’t really the problem, 70%-99% of his students secretly mentally undress him during class anyways, boys and girls alike.

Seriously, who wouldn’t.

Being one of those genius kid that had everything figured out by the time they graduated high school, he’s barely even 4 years older than you with a Master and a Phd. under his belt with a fancy job at a prestigious university. Towering over most at nearly 6 ft, he pretty much stands out in any crowd. Even if his intimidating height doesn’t do its job, his impressive look will take care of the rest. Despite being a professor, he looks anything but with perfectly sculpted face, even better figure, and a fashion sense that shamed even models. He pretty much could be standing there reciting the phonebook and it’d somehow be interesting.

The problem itself is that you actually acted upon your desire when the opportunities arisen a few months back. Well, that opportunity wasn’t just a simple heat of the moment thing but rather months of intense push and pull, suppressing and wanting to unleash a fury of unimaginable desires on each other. But let’s leave that tale for a later date.

Staring up at the center of your deepest darkest secret, you muster up a sleepy smile when your eyes meet his. He had been busily grading away at his desk while simultaneously proctoring the exam before now, looking ravishingly stunning under the rare appearance of his oversized brown tortoise specs. A playful smirk rests upon your mouth without your knowledge, tongue breaching its barrier for a slow sensual meeting with the lower lip. He often wears contacts, only busting out the glasses whenever he knew he needed to get on your good side.

You’ve never meant for this little preference to be made known, much less to Hanbin. Late night spend in his office in reality is much less exhilarating than what one would anticipates of a willing single lady and an open available man lock in a room, wee hours of the darkness with nothing else but the quiet cricket of night as companions. He had been on the 3rd pile of paper scribbling away furiously with a few disappointing sigh. It had only been the first exam of the quarter and already, stress bestowed upon the poor professor. His brows furrowed in frustration of where could he have gone wrong that resulted in such detrimental way to the class learning curve. A soft “God” slipped through his lips like the most dainty of wind rushing through the leaves. Your heart ached for the young professor blaming himself for the lack of the class. Seconds of sympathy turned into minutes of absentmindedly staring at how his hair no longer holding its shape but rather flopping over in evident of a exhausted long day. Even with the guilt of not being able to do more to help him coursing through your blood vessels, you couldn’t stop the primal calling of the pooling heat in between your legs.

His svelte fingers rubbing his brows vexingly as his head twisted in discomfort. Judging from the amount of red blooming on the page, it had to be one of the stoner kid that’s even worse at showing up to class than you are. When he wasn’t nibbling gently on his knuckles, his teeth would be busy gnawing away at the redden abused lips, rolling and licking them to smithereens. You let your attention engulfed in the slight sheen on those high cheekbones, eyes lingering along the sharp jawline that had definitely had every girl in the department wishing they could trace them with their tongue. His jet black locks messily draped over the peeking undercut, no longer sinfully neat from the constant ruffle of his hand rummaging through in disappointment. A near moan-like sigh escaped your lips when his index effortlessly push the oversized pair of glasses up the bridge of his noise, tugging it gently by the end piece. Hanbin is undeniably handsome, that’s for sure. But God forbid how immorally good he looks with his specs on, playing into his part as a professor so damn well. Unknowingly, your legs less than inconspicuously crossed over themselves, clumsily rubbing hard knocking the underside of his desk a few times, begging for any sort of friction. All from the way his glasses framing his ethereal face so perfectly. You had been so lost within the mesmerizing view that you nearly lost your soul from the sudden rasp of his voice.

“Baby girl, what are you doing over there?” Checking in on you was something he had always done. Even grading get rough and tedious so you provide the right amount of distraction for a quick break.

“H-Homework…” You stuttered out in an almost incoherent mess, chest heaving, breaths steadily rising. Heart rapidly drumming against your ribcage out of shock.

“How’s that going?” He sighed, a slight smirk nestled itself on his lips.

“Uh-Uhm. Good!” You shamelessly stared at the busy man in front of you that was sparing you no glance. He continued with jotting down comments, circling mistakes.

“Are you working on art?”

“Huh? No. Physics.” For once, you wished for nothing more but for him to return to ignoring you, leave  you to your day dream. You whimpered pathetically, losing command over all your senses.

“Judging from the way you’ve been absentmindedly doodling circles on your paper, I’d have guessed it’s a kindergarten art assignment for learning shapes. But hey! What do I know, right?” Not even one single second spared. He didn’t even look up while cooly making his observation. “Then again, I could be wrong. I think your legs are busy doing something else though.” His tone remained as calm as ever. As if he was just making a passing comments on how pretty the night sky was, not the fact that you were pleasuring yourself off the jaw-dropping sight of him hard working. “Or should I teach you some anatomy lesson right now. We’ll start with picking up your slacken jaws off the floor…” Finally, that haughty, mischievous expression graced itself on his features, his eyes glanced upward just enough to witness all the color disappeared from your skin.

“C-Can you blame me though? It’s late and I-we should be in bed by now” You somehow managed to still be the least bit sassy while throwing down your pen after the mortifying realization that he was right. Atop your free body diagram a jumble of scribbles and circles layered themselves in no particular order. Your hands immediately went to press down your awkward legs in hope of controlling your dampen core. You bit your cheek out of pure embarrassment, physically impossible to look his way. You must’ve looked so stupid drooling over him with your mouth gaped wide open while drawing random shit on your homework.

“Is that so? I did said you don’t need to keep me company when I grade exam. You can go home first…” Clearly amusing himself from watching you suffer, he quipped playfully.

“No… I’ll stay.” You insisted, wincing a bit from a particularly hard chomp against on your own lip.

“You’re way too distracted today. What is it? Is it because I’m ignoring you?” He halted his movement, right hand placed over his left matter of factly. You tried your best remaining still in your seat, eyes glancing around, sweating like a sinner in church.“Hmm, that’s not it. I’ve ignored you for weeks before when my folks came to town. I bet it’s not my clothes either. You’ve seen me in these slacks plenty of times…” You swallowed hard, fingers nervously tapping on your thigh. He eyed you up and down, inside out, left to right with an inquisitive note to his burning gaze.

“Ah…” Like the devil had just thrusted himself upon the man lost in thought in the mere microsecond it took you to blink. A wave of indiscernible mix of ego and arrogance submerged him in its toxic lake, darkening the light in his star filled eyes with lust. You felt lost gazing in those blown out pool of brown, feeling its seductive calling drawing you closer to losing yourself. You tried to resist but like a spell bound fool, you found yourself wandering further into his embrace.

The sudden shift in mood had you sinking into your seat as if it could somehow eject you out of the thick tension of the room that was overworking your lungs with harsh gasps. Curiosity burned away and contentment bursting out with life like a phoenix reborn from ashes, his eyes still following you closely, latching onto the way yours darted between the collar bones peek-a-booing beneath the unbuttoned collar of his disheveled button up and his face. An all too familiar grin spread across those plump hot lips of his, a smuggest of a smirk.

“So. My baby girl got a thing for glasses huh… Why didn’t you said so in the first place.” He leaned back into his chair, legs spread wide as if daring you to perch atop them. With a swift motion of his finger, you hopped out of your seat and straight to his side as if you just won the lottery.

Goldilocks || 06

Happy kind of early 700 followers! How?! I only reached 600 last week. You guys spoil me. As thanks, here’s 6.4k of “pure,” unadulterated Goldilocks.

Rated M (language and smut)

Warnings: Masturbation, hand job, just general cringe worthy stuff

Summary: After getting evicted, your two best friends Jimin and Taehyung offer you a place to stay until you get back on your feet. Needless to say, with a part time job and a mountain of student debt, that’s not happening any time soon. Eventually, they DO become really fond of having you around, helping with chores and even splitting rent. So when you come home one day to find someone has been sleeping in your couch-bed, well… it’s something you won’t take lightly.

Out of context Goldilocks quote:
“Wait, random arguments about ass? Or just like, getting mad about nothing? Because one of those is definitely better than the other.”

A/N: OH LOOK THE RATING CHANGED. If you’re someone who doesn’t like smut, asterisk* is where it starts, skip until the *asterisk where it ends. You won’t be missing plot stuff. I made sure of that. Special thanks to @echo-writes

✩✩✩♔✩✩✩

Taehyung’s room, too hot.

Jimin’s room, too cold.

You flop onto the empty sofa. Just right.

While you love Taehyung and his bed, there is a strong possibility that you would give your nonexistent left testicle to kick out Jungkook and sleep here again. Couch is love. Couch is life. You contemplate taking a nap while you have the house to yourself, but then you smell it, something that is awfully, unmistakably him.

You roll sideways, onto the floor, almost hitting the coffee table.

He’s contaminated it.

Jungkook has gone and rubbed his stupid smell all over your precious couch-bed. Not that you… know what he smells like. You cringe. Spending a third night in Taehyung’s bed might not be so bad after all. If you just down another dose of god knows how old NyQuil like the past two days, at least you’ll be spared the horror of another wet dream.

Besides, you’d probably have to fight Jungkook for the couch anyway. Then again, maybe you could shove the golden haired muscle pig into Jimin’s room. That would take care of two problems.

The sound of jingling keys pulls your attention to the entryway. It’s too early for Jimin to be home from work and Jungkook can’t get in without someone unlocking the door for him (maybe there’s still a chance you could “accidentally” leave him outside at some point). So the logical conclusion is, Taehyung is home from school early.

You’re pretty sure he had an exam today, but because your friend is surprisingly one of those people who can get a solid 95% without reading the textbook, studying, or even attending lectures in some cases, he probably finished in less than twenty minutes. Classic Tae. Technically, you’re not supposed to be home either, but your first class was canceled despite having spent all weekend slaving away, shut inside the bathroom on Jimin’s laptop to finish writing your essay.

The bathroom? Yes. Don’t judge yourself. What were you going to do? Continue suffering in Jimin’s room? Move to Taehyung’s and get distracted by the mess that would even put a garbage dump to shame? Or worst of all, confront Jinglekook in the living room or kitchen?

So there you found yourself, in the bathroom hunkered under a layer of blankets in the bathtub and on a throne of pillows, telling all three guys to “fuck off- go piss on a tree” whenever they came knocking. The only time you let them in was the rare occasion you had to leave for important things like food or when you left for a four hour shift at work on Sunday.

You were being difficult, yes.

But if a certain someone hadn’t taken your beloved couch, it wouldn’t have been a problem.

Suddenly, the door swings open, slamming against the wall and bouncing back to hit a very excited looking Taehyung in the shoulder. Leave it to him to make an entrance.

“I’m home early~ before everyone else~” he playfully sings to himself. You contemplate telling him you’re here, but then, “Gonna go watch porn~ with the volume on~”

‘Changed The Way You Kiss Me’ - Jim Kirk

Star Trek

Jim x Reader

Based on this song by Example. You and Jim have a casual arrangement, until you learn that he’s going to be gone for a couple of weeks and discover some not-so-casual feelings.

Sexual innuendo, chance of swearing?

Note - Wow, it has taken me so long to write something I’m moderately okay with posting. Hope you like it, so let me know! I love feedback, and requests. x

James Tiberius Kirk was a casual fuck – nothing more.

It was a convenient arrangement that the two of you had, and both parties were aware of the strictly no strings policy. It was better that way, anyway. If ever either one of you needed to blow off steam or be distracted from the tedious life aboard the Starship Enterprise, you’d simply say the magic words and there’d be no further questions. You never had to listen to each other’s problems, or try and understand why the other was upset or angry. It was the perfect relationship to have with Jim Kirk, where you got all the good and none of the bad because you knew that it’d be absolutely reckless to fall in love with someone like Jim.

A Book Makes All the Difference

Okay, how about the reader used to be Gaston’s fiancée and worked at the palace as a maid. Once the curse took over he forgot about her and his whole personality changed. He moves on to Belle because the reader liked books/has a similar personality, subconsciously trying to fill the whole of her. On his way to kill the beast, he hears her calling out for him and he starts to remember. Then she turns into a human and Gaston’s personality/humanity/kindness is restored?

Author’s Note: So I realise that this is a bit late and I apologise. I’ve been really busy with exams and have little time to write. However, I hope you enjoy this one-shot, my first ever Gaston x reader. I may have changed the reader from a maid to a librarian, so I hope you don’t mind too much. And I apologise for any SPaG errors. Hope you all enjoy :)  MASTERLIST

No one had really enjoyed books. You were the only one who truly loved them. The village would laugh at you, discuss you behind your back for your love of reading. That was until, he took an interest in you. Gaston. He would approach you around the village and ask you what you were reading. He genuinely seemed interested in what you had to say, and would laugh when you got so carried away with your book that you’d walk into a wall or person. He was the war hero, that returned to the village two years prior to when he first asked you about Hamlet, the book that was in your hands at the time. You were glad that he didn’t scoff at the idea of you reading and you found it incredibly endearing when he came up to you one day to announce that he had read Hamlet in its entirety. He gushed over how much he loved it and you spent the entire afternoon discussing the play in question. It was on that day that you and he had his first kiss. From then on, your relationship only grew. The dramatic climax, so far, had been when he’d roped in LeFou to help him perform a scene from ‘Much Ado About Nothing’. He’d taken you outside the village, into one of the many meadows. He had prepared a make-shift stage and he and LeFou had performed the scene where Benedict and Beatrice finally confessed their feelings for one another. LeFou played all the extra characters, whilst Gaston played Benedict. He let you play Beatrice as you knew all the words already. You had loved it, and whilst watching LeFou perform a few lines, your heart swelled with pure love for the man playing your Benedict.
What you hadn’t expected was to turn around to see Gaston on one knee, a small gold band in his hands. You didn’t even let him ask the question. You screamed “Yes” at the top of your lungs and dived hugged him, whilst smashing your lips into his. You were to marry the man of your dreams, someone who cared about you and what you loved. You started planning the wedding almost immediately, and to add onto your joy, you managed to get a position at the Prince’s castle. Gaston had recommended you to the head housekeeper, Mrs Potts, the wife of the town potter; he had told her that you loved reading and Mrs Potts suggested that you should become the new librarian. The old one left after the Prince threw a book at his face. You couldn’t believe your luck. You had a job where you were surrounded by more books than you could comprehend and in less than a month you were to be married.
But that day never came. The Prince made sure of that. You were transformed into a bookstand and Gaston forgot all about you. He became the man he would have been if he hadn’t met you. In the castle you remained in the library, hidden from the rest of the staff. Mrs Potts would visit you along with Chip, but you didn’t venture outside the library. You’d already lost the person you loved the most, so you were determined to keep the books that you loved. In the village, Gaston had taken an interest in a girl named Belle. He told himself it was because she was beautiful, but the reality was that he liked her because she was so much like you.
———————————————————————————————————–
When Belle first arrived in the castle you had had no desire to see her. Whilst the rest of the staff rambled about how she was the one, you now ever the pessimist, remained upstairs in the library, scoffing at their ill placed hope. The Prince was a monster, and no intelligent woman would want him. So you were surprised to hear that she was staying. You thought her foolish but when Mrs Potts explained that it was to save her father, your initial thought on her intelligence was replaced with pride for her. Although you couldn’t help wonder if she was slightly insane to live with the master. Mrs Potts, ever your informant, came up to you the next day to tell you about the wolves. You were shocked that the master had actually shown compassion to save her. What shocked you even more was that Belle decided to stay with him, to heal him. You couldn’t help but be curious about her. You actually decided to leave the library, after the nine years you’d stayed cooped up, to try and meet her for the first time. It turned out you didn’t have to.
One day, about two weeks after Mrs Potts told you about the attack, the Prince and Belle entered the library. You couldn’t help but gasp slightly at the sight of them. The master hadn’t been in the library since the curse was set and for once, he looked happy. Belle was truly her namesake. You had never seen anyone so beautiful. She was clearly in awe of the library as she stopped abruptly as soon as she entered. You watched silently from your corner, whilst the two of them threw mild mockeries at one another. You smiled to yourself. They were perfect for one another, even if they didn’t know it yet. You couldn’t help but feel slightly upset by their love for one another, as it only made you long to be in the arms of Gaston. Still, you were happy for them.
Almost as quickly as he arrived, the master left leaving Belle alone squealing with delight at the library. You could tell that she didn’t even know where to begin, so with courage you didn’t know you possessed, you stepped out from the shadows to introduce yourself.
“Is there something in particular you’d like to read mademoiselle?” You asked.
Belle leaped up in the air and looked around desperately for the source of the voice. Eventually her eyes tested on you as you made your way towards her.
“Sorry if I startled you. My name’s Y/N, the castle librarian.”
She seemed shocked at your introduction and you didn’t know why until she stated,
“You mean, you read?”
“Yes, it’s one of my passions.” You stated matter-of-factly. “It would be most unusual if they hired a librarian who couldn’t read.”
“But… But you’re a woman.” She stated.
“Well yes I once was. Do you have a problem with that mademoiselle?” You asked slightly angered by her response.
“I’ve never met another woman who likes to read.” She stated. You immediately understood why she said what she had.
“Well now you have. And I’d love to show you around.”
She nodded at your proposal and you gladly showed her every nook and cranny of the library. You even showed her a hidden section, where your personal favourites were stored. You found that you enjoyed her company and realized that you wanted to see her more often.
You saw her practically every day after that. She’d come and pick up several books and read them before coming back in the afternoon to discuss them with you. You even helped her find the castle’s copy of Romeo and Juliet just to spite the master. The master would come in every so often to help Belle with picking out books. He’d roll his eyes at you every time she picked out a romance and you only responded with a look. One day he even came into the library, asking for a romance recommendation. You smirked as you have him ‘King Arthur and the Round Table’.
You and Belle found that over time you talked less about books and more about each other. It was then that you discovered the fate of the village. She was discussing Villeneuve, how no one liked that she could read, and you told her that that had always been the case.
“Yes, no one bar my fiancé, liked that I read.” You had said.
“You’re engaged?” She questioned.
“Well if what you say is true, I was engaged, I doubt my fiancé knows that I exist anymore.”
“I’m sure they still remember you somehow. Love can break any curse.” She encouraged, and you only smiled knowing how much that was true. “Tell me about him.” She said eagerly.
“Well, he was a soldier. The town war hero.” You started and you saw Belle visibly frown. You continued anyway.
“He was so sweet with me. He didn’t care that other people thought I was odd. He even started reading with me, so I could discuss books with someone else.” Belle was visibly shocked by the statement. “He’s the one who got me the job here. He knew I loved to read and recommend me to Mrs Potts for this position. He proposed to me about five months before the curse was cast. It was beautiful. He and his best friend performed a scene from my favourite play, and before I knew it he was down on one knee. I love him so much.” You whispered the last line. If you could cry you knew you would’ve. Belle looked at you and gave you a hug as normal as she could manage. You were a book stand after all. She pulled away and looked at you before asking,
“Is your fiancé Gaston?”
You perked up at the sound of his name.
“Yes! Oh do you know him? How is he?” You let out a slew of questions but stopped when you saw Belle’s face.
“I do know him, but the man you described most certainly isn’t the one I know.”
Your breath hitched in your throat. From Belle’s body language you knew instantly what was wrong.
“He doesn’t remember me does he?”
Belle shook her head and looked down at her lap, clearly wanting to tell you something.
“Tell me Belle, I promise I won’t hate you.”
“He….. He has been trying to gain my affection.”
You nodded curtly. You knew you should’ve felt rage but you didn’t.
“It’s okay Belle. He doesn’t know me anymore, I wouldn’t expect anything less from him.”
“If it makes you feel any better, I know now why he chose me over all the other girls.” She said looking at you. “I’m just like you.”
You felt pride swell in your chest and you hugged her as best you could. She was your friend, and you couldn’t ever be mad at her.
Life in the castle continued on after the revelation of Gaston. You still loved him, he was cursed after all. One evening, whilst you were busy organizing the desk, after Belle and the Prince had travelled using that cursed book a week prior, (it had upset you to see Belle so sad); Belle came by in a yellow ball gown that you had to admit made you quite jealous. You knew of her dance with the master, and had wished her luck but you were confused as to why she was here, in the library. She rushed to you, and you noticed the mirror gripped in her hand.
“Belle, what are you doing here?”
“I am leaving.” She stated, “My father, he needs me.”
You nodded. “Then I wish you luck my friend.” You told her as you gave her one last hug before she disappeared into the night.
———————————————————————————————————–
It was a few hours before dawn when Mrs Potts came charging into library in desperate search of you.
“Y/N?” She called out to you. You waddled over to her, concerned.
“What is it Mrs Potts?” You questioned as you approached.
“Invaders!” She simply said. You nodded and followed closely behind her as you left the library for the first time in years.
As you approached the lower levels you could hear the chaos that was occurring down below. Mrs Potts had already sped off to fight so you wandered slowly towards the noises, preparing yourself for war. As you reached the end of one of the castle’s many corridors you noticed a man standing there, his eyes fixed on a mirror the same as Belle’s. You could make out the master’s picture inside it, and you could only assume that he was here to hurt the master, as he had two revolvers and a bow and arrow that were visible. You didn’t want to know what would happen if the master died, but you sure as hell didn’t want to find out. You did the only thing you could think of in the moment. You growled, just like the master used to before Belle came along. You had a lot of practice of mimicking voices as you spent your time in the library acting out various scenes from books. The man instantly turned to where you were. He looked straight past you, down the corridor. As he approached you started to make out his features until it hit you.
“Gaston?” You whispered unintentionally. You smacked yourself internally for your stupidity. Gaston stopped abruptly in the hallway. He had a puzzled expression on his face, wondering why the voice seemed familiar. You saw him struggle to remember and it broke your heart.
“Gaston.” You repeated again and he began walking slowly down the corridor looking for the source of the familiar voice. This was a good sign, he was heading away from the Beast and towards you. You began to shuffle down the corridor, leading him away from the Beast, towards the library. You kept on repeating his name and he became more and more determined to find your body to match your voice.
As you entered the library, you noticed through the windows, Belle on her horse galloping towards the entrance of the castle. You begged her to hurry, unsure of how much longer you could distract Gaston.
Gaston burst into the library a few seconds after you had hidden yourself away.
“Who’s there?” He commanded, nothing but fear in his voice.
“It’s me.” You said aloud, trying not to think about the fact that he didn’t know who you were.
“Who are you?” He bellowed looking for you amongst the shadows.
“It’s me, Y/N.”
He stopped turning abruptly. He recognized your name. He was clearly struggling with himself, fighting about what to do.
“I don’t know you!” He screamed desperately trying to convince himself that what he said was true.
“Yes you do Gaston.” You said as you tried to take a step forward. You couldn’t. Your body was going rigid, the curse finally ending. You saw Gaston desperately trying to search for you. You clung onto your remaining humanity to utter, “Gaston, I love you.” You felt yourself fade away as you stared at him, not hearing him say your name out loud.
———————————————————————————————————–
The darkness consumed you, for what felt like years. When you opened your eyes you expected to see heaven. You opened your eyes instead to a brown floor. The library’s wooden floor. You looked up slowly to see that you were lying on the ground, hidden behind one of the bookcases. You pushed yourself up with your hands, your human hands. Oh the joy of being human again. You stood slowly, struggling to stay upright after being a book stand for so long. Before you could cheer about your new found humanity, you saw movement in the corner of your eye. You looked through the bookshelf to see Gaston dazed and confused clutching his head.
You slowly made your way around the bookshelf so that you were in his line of sight. He looked at you, and his eyes widened.
“Y/N!” He exclaimed and you both didn’t hesitate before you rushed into each other’s arms, tears rolling down your faces. “You’re alive!” He said whilst he clung to you. You gripped him tightly before looking at him directly in the eyes.
“You’re in big trouble.” You teased before smashing your lips into his. You and he gripped each other desperately as you both melted into the kiss. After deciding that you actually needed to breathe you pulled away, where you just stared lovingly at one another.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry….” He was about to continue but you brought your finger to his lips.
“Shhhh…” You said, “All is forgiven from me. But maybe you should apologise to Belle? Hmm?”
“You know about that?” He said sheepishly.
“Well, friends usually talk about their lives with one another. Me and Belle are no exception.”
He nodded and you both rose from the floor together. You made your way downstairs, towards the foyer, where everyone was gathered. Belle and the Prince were among them. You approached quickly, with Gaston walking slowly behind you. You tapped Belle on the shoulder and she turned to face you.
“Thank you Belle!” You exclaimed as you pulled her into a tight hug. She hugged you back tightly. As you pulled away you said to her, “Someone wishes to apologise to you.” She looked confused but when she saw Gaston approach she instantly understood.
“Belle,” he began, “I am so sorry for everything I ever said to you. For everything I ever did to you. You didn’t deserve it and I hope you can accept my humblest of apologies.”
She smiled, “I forgive you Gaston. I’m glad you make my closest friend so happy, and I apologise for calling you a monster. You were just as cursed as everyone else.” You smiled at her, grateful for her kindness. Gaston turned to you and explained that he had many more apologies to give out. You let him go to find everyone who he had wronged in the past nine years. You knew the list would most likely be extensive. Belle turned to you smiling.
“He’s different to what I knew him to be.”
“Well what can I say,” you said to her jokingly, “I’ve got him wrapped around my finger.”
You both giggled at your remark. You spent the majority of the day, with Belle reuniting with everyone else. LeFou was ecstatic to see you again and he thanked you for being in Gaston’s life, now knowing what he would’ve been like if he hadn’t had met you.
As the day drew to a close, you and Gaston found yourselves alone. He’d apologised to everyone including Maurice, Belle’s father. Maurice was apparently not too impressed by him, but Belle had convinced him that Gaston was a changed man.
“I can’t believe this has happened.” He stated.
“Well it’s not every day that you find your one true love twirling around in a library, a bow in one hand and a mirror in another.” You teased. He picked you up and spun you around.
“For what it’s worth,” he said, “I’d gladly do it again, if it meant you’d laugh at me afterwards.”
You kissed him passionately as you both sat on the steps of the palace. You say there in bliss as you kissed, thinking of the future that you could now finally spend together.
And what a future it was.

Sleep Deprivation

summary:

In all of class 1-A’s time together, they have never once heard Midoriya cuss. Not even when he’s at his most distressed had they heard a single utterance of anything close to profanity, so imagine their shock when they found out that all it took was an angry Bakugou and some sleep deprivation.

a/n: wow im tired please take this thank you.

read it on ao3

Midoriya was running on nothing but coffee and two hours of sleep. UA’s final exams will do that to you, and he finds that the rest of his classmates are not in quite the same boat as he is. For the past  two weeks he’s been studying for any possible question his teachers can throw at him, and more often than not he’s woken up to his notes sticking to his face and an awful crick in his neck.

Trudging along to his homeroom class, a can of red bull in his hand, Midoriya sees Bakugou in a similar state as he is. Which is not at all surprising when you take into account the fact that they’re both one of the top students in their class, next to Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Iida. Seeing Bakugou in a foul mood is common and not that hard to endure, but a Bakugou tired and in a foul mood is harder to ignore. Currently, Midoriya is giving him a wide berth, just in case Bakugou tries to take out his grumpiness on him.

It seemed like no amount of maneuvering was going to get him away from Bakugou’s ire, if the barely audible, “Hey, Deku, you fucking loser, get over here!” is anything to go by. Midoriya really was in no mood to deal with him right now, so for the sake of his sanity, he continued walking down the halls, pretending not to hear Bakugou’s growling remarks.

Walking into homeroom was probably the worst mistake Midoriya could have made, if only because the rest of the class wasn’t nearly as much of a wreck as he was. Sure, they looked a little worse for wear, but they did seem to be sleeping more than he has. That is, except for Iida. The boy seemed to have permanent bags under his eyes these days.

“Whoah, Midoriya, you’re not looking too good,” Kirishima says, and Midoriya only grunts in acknowledgement.

Shuffling to his seat and sitting down in what could only be described as an undignified slump, he sees Todoroki frowning in concern. “Are you okay?”

Midoriya’s reply was cut short by Bakugou slamming open the door to the class and storming in. He stomped to his seat, and Midoriya could overhear Kaminari say, “Man, Bakugou looks like shit, too.”

“Well, they are some of the top students in the class. You’re obviously not studying enough if you can still smile.” Jirou said back, and this started an argument over who was studying more (neither of them), which got quickly drowned out in favor of Midoriya laying his head down and trying to fall asleep.

“Deku, I was fucking talking to you.”

Midoriya was, impossibly, reaching the end of his rope. He’s really not trying to make Bakugou feel any worse than he already is, but it was so hard when he’s so tired and Bakugou is so annoying.

“Don’t ignore me, fuckmunch.”

Midoriya regretfully lifted his head to look at Bakugou, who was standing right in front of his desk and glaring daggers at him. “Listen, Kaachan, I’m too tired to deal with your shit right now, so I’d appreciate it if you would go away.”

All heads turned to them, and utter silence reigned over the room.

In all of class 1-A’s time together, they have never once heard Midoriya cuss. Not even when he’s at his most distressed had they heard a single utterance of anything close to profanity, so imagine their shock when they found out that all it took was an angry Bakugou and some sleep deprivation.

“Did he just—”

“Oh my god!”

“Did someone record that?!”

“Who are you and what have you done to Midoriya?”

“Please, someone tell me they recorded that!”

Midoriya only groaned and laid his head back down, hoping the gods will be kind to him and kill him right then and there so that maybe he could get some sleep.

(In the corner, no one noticed Todoroki’s red face and his internal screaming, because he really shouldn’t have found that so hot, but really, can anyone blame him?)

The ever looming exams getting nearer and nearer brought out a side of Midoriya no one thought they’d ever see. The first time they wrote off as a fluke, a one time thing that came and went and was never to be see again. The second time, however, was the start of a trend.

“Hey, Midoriya, do you know where  I put my jacket? The blue one.” Sero walked into the common room to find a zombie like Midoriya sitting on the floor surrounded by piles of paper.

“Fuck no, sorry,” he said, and went back to turning his notes into paper airplanes and shooting them into Kirishima’s snoring face, because he lost the ability to read them hours ago.

“Oh-oh, okay, sorry to disturb you, I guess.” And he backed out of the room slowly, only to bolt upstairs moments later yelling, “You guys will not believe what I just heard!”

And he was right, they didn’t believe him.

.

.

.

Midoriya knew he must be losing his mind. The lack of sleep was finally getting to him, and he’s hallucinating, because that was the only reason why his heart was beating so fast when he looked at Todoroki laughing.

Well, cackling was more the right word. Todoroki Shouto was cackling. It was something to do with what Midoriya said, but he couldn’t really remember what it was. It doesn’t matter, because the rising sun was streaming in through the windows behind Todoroki and casting a warm glow around his hair, making his left side even more red and the right side a soft pink.

Midoriya knows Todoroki said something, but for the life of him he couldn’t concentrate on what. “ —oriya, hey Midoriya.” Todoroki was waving his hand in front of his face, and Midoriya snapped out of his thoughts. “What were you thinking about?”

“Oh, nothing!” Lies. “I was just wondering what Aizawa was going to make us do for the practical exam.” Lies. He hoped Todoroki doesn’t see his reddening face.

Todoroki gave him a Look that Midoriya doesn’t know how to interpret. “Are you getting enough sleep? Because if you’re not, maybe you should take this time to catch up.”

Oh, man. Midoriya was in some deep shit. Todoroki was too sweet, really, it should be illegal. “A-Alright, yeah, I’ll do that.” he watched as Todoroki smiled and turned around again.

He really is fucked. “Shit.”

“What?”

“Nothing!”

.

.

.

Over the course of the next week, there was five other occasions where Midoriya cussed, and each time was followed either by another sip of his caffeinated drink, or the indecipherable mutterings about his notes that probably wouldn’t make sense even if they could be heard.

Most of these occurrences have been harmless, just some ruder replies than what a normal, well-rested-and-not-stressed Midoriya would have said. The only person who took the words personally was Bakugou, who seemed to think that annoying him even more was the answer, and so Midoriya took to hiding out in Todoroki’s room in order to get away from him.

Currently, Todoroki was sitting on his bed reading a book, while Midoriya was pacing about quizzing himself on the different ways a hero could get their license revoked. Todoroki would be lying if he said he wasn’t worried.

“Why don’t you take a break for a while,” he said. That at least got Midoriya to stop talking to himself, but in his distracted state, he wasn’t looking where he was going, and ran into the bed frame.

“God dammit!” he said, and started to hop on one foot while clutching his shin in the other.

If Midoriya was paying any attention, he would have heard the choked off sound coming from Todoroki, and would have seen his slight blush when he got off the bed and came over.  “I’m sorry, are you okay?”

Midoriya stopped bouncing around, but he was limping slightly. “Yeah, it just hurt. Don’t worry, it wasn’t your fault.”

Todoroki led Midoriya to his bed and forced him to lay down, saying, “You really should rest, Midoriya, this isn’t healthy.”

He tried to struggle, but it was Todoroki who won in the end, wrestling a blanket over him and silencing any arguments. “But i need to—”

“No.”

“But my notes—”

“No.”

In five minutes, Midoriya fell asleep, and Todoroki continued to read in the comforting sound of his soft snores.

When final exams ended, the students of UA didn’t know what to do with themselves. Some took to celebrating in the common room with food and drinks. While others, like Todoroki, preferred to relax in their room.

Well, that was what he planned to do, anyway, until he saw Midoriya shuffling along the path back to the dorms, and thought of a better idea. “How’d you do?” he asked.

“Better than I think, probably, but I don’t actually remember any of the material.”

Midoriya was a complete mess. With tired eyes, wrinkly clothes, and messier hair than normal, it was a wonder the boy was even still standing. “Why don’t you watch a movie with me when we get back, to celebrate doing better than you think,” he offered with a small smile.

Midoriya seemed to perk up at that. “Alright.”

They walked together in companionable silence, and when they reached the dorms, they said goodbye to their classmates and headed up the stairs. Todoroki headed over to his small movie selection and said, “So what are you in the mood to watch? I’m sorry I don’t have such a wide range to choose from.” When he noticed that he got no answer, he looked back to see Midoriya passed out on his bed, face adorably squashed down into the pillows.

He smiled and turned out the lights. Crawling onto the other side of the bed, he pulled the covers over both of them and tucked it under Midoriya’s chin. Todoroki stayed like that, just looking at Midoriya sleep peacefully for the first time in what was probably weeks, until he too fell asleep.

(and no one but Midoriya saw his red face when he woke up tangled around Todoroki, resting his head on the other’s chest. He debated moving, if only to make the position less awkward, but Todoroki was far too comfortable and the blankets were far too warm, so he decided against it.)

Do you have school-aged children?

I am a teacher. I’ve been a teacher for nearly twelve years. I’ve seen a huge number of education changes happen during this time, but I am worried about what is happening in education right now - and I am not sure that the general public are aware of the extent of the difficulties we face.

Let me start by saying that I am not concerned about my pay. I don’t want more money. I am not asking for your concern about my wages.

What I am concerned about are the cuts that the Conservative government are making to education - huge, life-changing cuts that are having a detrimental effect on the mental health and well-being of a massive number of children and young people.

This is going to be long, but if you have children, please bear with me and read to the end.

1. The new GCSE system

Michael Gove started his annihilation of the A*-G GCSE system back in 2010, and this year we see the first string of examinations take place. “More rigour” was the battle cry. However, did you know that the new GCSE English Literature exam - including the poetry exam, requiring study of an anthology of 15 poems - is closed-book? This means that no student will be given a copy of the text in their exam - not even SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) students, many of which have recall and memory problems.

The GCSE English Language exam uses extracts from heritage texts that carry a reading age of approximately 17. The average reading age of a GCSE-level student is 14. So why are we asking our students to read and analyse texts that are aimed at someone with a reading age 3 years above their own? Some of my students have a reading age of 9. They cannot in any way access the papers. In addition to this, the papers are up to 2hrs and 15mins long, often with a high number of questions - the Edexcel GCSE English Language paper 2 is equivalent to a mark a minute. I am seeing students who want to succeed breaking down as they simply cannot fit it all in - to understand and then interpret a text in such a small amount of time is extremely difficult for some students, and so what we are seeing is an increasing number of students switching off from their education as they simply write themselves off as ‘stupid’. You can see the Edexcel GCSE papers for English language here: https://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/GCSE/English%20Language/2015/specification-and-sample-assesment/GCSE-English-Lang-SAMs.pdf

I can only speak for English as it is my subject, but what I know is in existence across the whole curriculum is this: the Conservative government and Ofqual have released a new 9-1 grading system - but have only just, one month before GCSE exams commence, launched any real model of what each grade looks like. For the last two years, teachers have been working to help students achieve grades without knowing what those grades look like. We were told that a 9 was an “A**”, reserved for the top 3% of the country, and we were told that a “good pass” would be a 5 and equivalent to a high C/low B, and that a 1 would be equivalent to a G, but that’s it. Last month, they even changed that - making the new “good pass” a 4 for students - but to add insult to injury, kept the “good pass” at a 5 for schools when being graded for league tables.

Confused yet? Imagine working in it.

We still don’t know how the new GCSEs are going to be graded. We probably won’t know for sure until after the exams. The Conservative government are talking about “rigour” whilst simultaneously asking us to teach a system that has such little “rigour” that nobody even knows what a student needs to do to achieve a 9 grade.

Schools are in disarray as they know one thing to be true - if their GCSE results are bad, Ofsted will swoop in, prepared to announce them as “requiring improvement”. This will happen despite the fact that even though we have repeatedly asked for clearer guidance and clarification on exactly what we can do to help students achieve the best they can, we have not been given anything. Nothing at all.

The goalposts are *still* moving, even now - and some of your children are sitting these exams in less than a month.

We are risking entering a time where the Key Stage 4 curriculum consists of teaching to the test and not much else. This goes against everything that most teachers stand for. Teaching to the test is boring. It doesn’t help students to love their subjects; it kills any enthusiasm they ever had. Last week, I had a 90-minute discussion with my GCSE English group about whether Hyde (from Stevenson’s story) was really a person. It ended with the students asserting that Hyde was never a person; he was not even a personality - Hyde was simply an excuse. These GCSE students - aged 15 - critically evaluated the novel and its interpretations, deciding that Jekyll and Hyde is actually a story about choice, rather than split personalities or hidden evil. It was incredible. I walked away worried that I’d wasted an hour and a half of exam practice. This should not be happening.

2. Excessive Testing at Ages 7 and 11

I am going to give my professional opinion on this, as someone who works at the chalkface: these exams are completely arbitrary and do not test the skills required for success at GCSE and in adult life.

This year, I had a cohort of Year 7 students arrive at my school having not written a proper story for over a year. They knew what a fronted adverbial was, and how to spot an internal clause, and even what a preposition was - but when I set them a task to write a story, they broke down and cried. They cried. I asked them to write a story - something that should be incredibly enjoyable and an adventure, regardless of your level of ability or need - and they couldn’t do it. They knew the nuts and bolts, sure - but had no idea how to put them together in any meaningful way. They had ideas, but no confidence.

My year 7 cohort had some of the highest SATs scores we could have hoped for - many of them with scaled scores of 115 and higher (scaled scores go from 80-120, with 100 as an 'average’), but their first creative writing piece was a huge failure, and I felt like a failure. We’ve since done a huge amount of work on story writing and creative motivation to develop their confidence and bring their marks up, but this has taken time from us that could have been used to develop their analytical skills, to develop their use of imagery and tone, to help them become more critical thinkers. I should not be teaching students how to piece a story together at secondary school.

I completely agree that students need to leave primary school 'secondary ready’. However, I do not think that testing students’ ability to identify grammatical items over their ability to compose a creative piece is the best way to do it. It only increases student anxieties when they arrive at secondary school only to find that they have no idea how to approach their secondary-level subjects.

I have a firm belief that testing students does not make them better learners. What should be happening is this: teachers should be being given the freedom to develop their students’ motivation, creativity, critical thinking, enthusiasm and, most of all, their passion. Students with passion always, always succeed.

This Conservative government seem to think that “rigour” means taking education decisions out of the hands of teachers. Michael Gove - a journalist - started this course of action. He criticised us when we told him it would not work, and pressed ahead regardless.

Multiple studies have shown that the mental health of children is suffering under this government. This has been known as far back as 2015: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/over-focus-on-exams-causing-mental-health-problems-and-self-harm-among-pupils-study-finds-10368815.html with 90% of teachers agreeing that SATs preparation is harming students’ mental health: https://www.tes.com/news/school-news/breaking-news/nine-10-teachers-believe-sats-preparation-harms-childrens-mental

3. Grammar Schools

We do not need grammar schools. We don’t. If we increase funding to all state schools to a level reflective of needs, allow teachers to develop a ‘grammar curriculum’ (lots of extra-curricular, increase independence of teachers), give schools ‘grammar resources and invest in better pastoral care (decent behaviour interventions that selective grammars don’t need) then we won’t need grammar schools. Don’t let Theresa May fool you.

The Conservative government say that working class students need a decent chance to succeed, and so she wants to build grammar schools above investing in local state-run facilities? Riiiiight. It’s a clear fact that house prices in catchment areas are higher. It’s a clear fact that middle-class families usually spend on tutoring and so more middle-class children get into grammar schools.

Why do we need to build more schools when we can just give more money to existing ones?

It’s easy to improve a school. Stop cutting funding and invest in decent support services. Which leads me to…

4. Cuts to Funding

When I entered teaching in 2005, most classes had a learning support assistant (you may know them as a TA). These people were incredibly important - they worked with SEND students, BESD (behavioural, social and emotional difficulties) students, assisted with students who had been absent or were having trouble accessing the curriculum and they did this on minimal pay, with minimal complaint. I once taught a class where two girls, twins, had complex SEND needs, spoke no English, could speak Arabic and German but couldn’t read it, and had no social skills. My TA was incredible, and she developed a whole scheme of picture-based activities for them to help them become happy, capable members of society.

This government have cut spending on education to the point where these TAs are rare, or simply don’t exist.

Now, teachers are asked to develop the progress and achievement of these students alone. If your child is dyslexic, they no longer have the ‘luxury’ of a TAs attention or time – instead, it is their teacher’s job to accommodate them. Believe me, this is something we want to do. If we had the ability, we’d break off a little bit of ourselves and sit with them as much as we could. However, the average class size is 30, and this is impossible. We are told we are failing when our most vulnerable students do not achieve, but when you have 30 students, it’s not always easy to give every vulnerable student the time you wish to give. TAs allowed every student to progress and achieve as they allowed the class teacher time to develop clear schemes of work that could be worked on separately to the class, alongside the main learning. Now, dyslexic students are at the hands of often newly-qualified teachers who are still developing their differentiation skills and do not always have the time or resources to make good things happen. This is a direct result of funding cuts.

This isn’t just about SEND students, either. The excessive cuts to education mean that many schools are now in a situation where they are considering making cuts in the curriculum and getting rid of specific subjects, usually the arts: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/education-news/education-schools-struggling-financially-axing-gcse-a-level-courses-cutting-class-trips-headteachers-a7620931.html

Students today are being denied the opportunity to access the arts – the subjects that make them well-rounded thinkers, evaluative learners and creative, motivated individuals. I find it hard to stomach that due to excessive Conservative cuts, students are going to miss out on drama class, or art class, or music. That they may never know the joy of a school play, or what it feels like to be told to make their own song, or to find their groove when looking at characters in Shakespeare. Why the arts? Well, because they don’t add “rigour” – the new E-Bacc asks schools to focus on students getting English, maths, science, a language and a humanities subject – there is no requirement for arts. When you’re a cash-strapped school and you face a poor Ofsted report if your results are bad, why would you waste time and money on a qualification that, to the government, doesn’t count? These decisions are being made every damn day, because the government have headteachers over a barrel. You must succeed. You must get above average pass rates (which is in itself ridiculous; there will always be half below average). You must push out students with E-Baccs. If you don’t, we will academise you.

Are we here to provide exam factories that churn out identikit students? We’ve already seen a cut in vocational qualifications and a rise in mandatory GCSE resits in English and Maths. Therefore, if your daughter has her heart set on becoming a mechanic, she may not have the opportunity to even access a course until she is 18 – in the past, she could have done this at age 14, by choosing a vocational mechanic course as an ‘option’ – but hey-ho, these have been cut. Instead, she will have to do the same GCSEs as everyone else, and if she can’t get that “good pass” in English, well, then she’ll just have to resit. And if she doesn’t get the “good pass” the next time, well, she’ll just have to resit again. Until she is old enough to walk away. Why are we putting our students through this? Why aren’t we nurturing a child’s natural enthusiasm?

I taught a GCSE class back in 2009. It was a ‘bottom set’ class; they made my life hell but overall, were decent kids who just hated English, one of only two subjects they did at school as the rest of the time they were out doing vocational courses. They mainly got Ds in English, despite my best efforts. One own his own garage now. One runs her own hairdressing business. One builds motorbikes. One runs his own farm. Nowadays, these students wouldn’t stand a chance.

Cuts also affect the level of pastoral support that exists in schools. The best schools invest clearly in the wellbeing of their students by providing them with mentors, non-teaching year leaders, behaviour liaison officers and pastoral teams. Remember ‘Educating Essex’? Those ladies in the office who worked with the kids to get them back into class and enjoying education? Those are the important people. Those are the ones we are losing.

To end this massive rant, I want to point you towards the amazing-yet-horrifying website ‘School Cuts’ – www.schoolcuts.org.uk. It allows you to look at any school in the country and see the level of cuts, with a calculation of how many teachers it is equivalent to. I don’t think many people in the UK really understand what we are up against here. Here are a few figures that mean something to me:

Hove Park School, Brighton & Hove: -£940,335 in cuts – equivalent to 25 teachers or -£659 per pupil

The Burgess Hill Academy (formerly Oakmeeds Community College), Sussex: -£273,426 / 7 teachers / -£340 per pupil

Bridgemary Community School, Gosport: -£421,065 / 12 teachers / -£797 per pupil

Sir Thomas Boteler CofE High School, Warrington: -£132,685 / 4 teachers / -£211 per pupil

Durrington High School, Worthing: -£474,491 / 13 teachers / -£274 per pupil

This is horrifying. These cuts mean that your children are absolutely not getting the education they need or deserve – all thanks to apparently “unavoidable” cuts made by a government who have already cut corporation tax, can afford themselves an 11% pay rise, can reduce inheritance tax and make allowances for the very rich.

I know that you may not like the leaders of the other parties very much. I understand that Brexit plays a part. However, students are arriving to school hungry, and we no longer have the funds to provide for them. We are being forced by this government to pressure students through a horrific, class-led system that discriminates against anyone with educational needs and that none of us agree with - and changes to strike laws mean that we can’t even protest it the way we want to. Brexit is happening, for now. Don’t be blinded by May. She wants you to be blinkered and she wants you to ignore the massive demolition of education. Don’t give her what she wants.

A vote for the Conservative government is a vote that gives them a mandate to ruin the lives of young people today - unless Conservative voters work with us to stop these cuts. I urge you – please look at the schoolcuts website, please take in just how much is being cut from your local area and PLEASE look at the other parties’ policies on education. Challenge your Conservative MP. Ask them to fight for change too. This is an issue that does not need to be red or blue!

Teachers should control education. Not politicians.

If your school is striking this term, please understand that we never want to deprive anyone of education. Strikes are always a last resort and always happen when we are not being listened to. The media will try to spin it and tell you we are all selfish misers who want better pay. We don’t. We want an end to a broken and corrupt system that exploits children and benefits the rich - that is all. Support your local schools, help out where you can - and vote for a party who will bring the humanity back to education.

—  Okay, I know I haven’t posted in a while and this post is incredibly long. However for the last week I have been studying and preparing for my mock exams, around 5 hours each night. Want to know why I’m studying for so long for MOCKS because everything we need to learn is incredibly long, we have to learn a Shakespeare play plus a 19th century novella and everything else. I am a dyslexic student and the closed-book exams are ridiculous, ever heard the quote “you can’t judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree” this is what they are doing. This status is making its way around Facebook after a teacher called Rebecca Bradley posted it highlighting what’s going on. It’s seriously messed up and needs to change not just the GCSE’s but budgeting.
