Day 8: Christmas Jumper (Rick Grimes imagine)
happy new year everybody! our first imagine of 2016 will be a Rick x Reader imagine and the christmas association is “christmas jumper”. i hope you enjoy reading daddy!Rick as much as i enjoyed writing it (NOT daddykink!Rick lmao although i made reference to that oops) - gabby (1,619 words)
Glenn and I had been the group’s most reliable people to go on runs since the beginning, always trying our hardest to find what everyone needed, and not returning home until we’d found it. I was asking around for requests, making a list of things we needed to find, when Rick’s familiar arms snaked around my waist, making me jump.
“Rick, you scared me,” I breathed, giving him a shy peck on the cheek. It felt so foreign to display our love for each other in front of the group, especially after having hidden our relationship for months. But everyone had taken it well, and had warmed to the idea of us being together.
“Could you find me something warm to wear in the evenings?” He asked, brushing my hair away from my face. “It’s getting cold.”
“Anything for you,” I replied with a kiss. Glenn and Noah both began to make ‘vomiting’ noises, mocking our mushiness. We couldn’t help it though, we were relishing being able to finally act like a couple.
Glenn and I were beyond satisfied when we returned from our run; we’d come across some sort of Walmart rip-off we hadn’t yet explored and there were plenty of supplies we could take. I felt rather accomplished as I tossed Carol the bar of chocolate I ‘forgot’ to hand into the pantry, making her promise to let me have at least two cookies from the batch.
I’d even found Rick a warm knitted jumper… only, there was a slight catch. I giggled to myself as I jogged up the stairs to find him, eager to see how ridiculous he’d look in a Christmas jumper when, despite the cold nights, it was quite evidently summertime.
After popping into Carl’s room to drop off a comic book I’d found, and returning his high-five, I made my way next door to Rick’s bedroom. He stood in the afternoon light that shone through the open window, holding his daughter in his arms and talking to her in a gentle, loving voice. The light reflected on his smiling cheeks, and my heart almost melted at the sight before me. I opened the door as silently as I could, being careful not to disturb them, but Rick had heard my quiet footsteps and greeted me with a beaming face.
“Welcome back, Y/N,” he held up Judith’s tiny hand so she could wave hello at me. I waved back before kissing her soft head, smoothing down her slightly static hair.
“I found you something to wear,” I remarked, taking Judith into my arms and holding her comfortably on my hip. She babbled in delight as she played with my hair; I tried not to wince as she tugged on it a little too enthusiastically. “But you gotta close your eyes before you put it on.”
“That’s a little suspicious,” Rick said, but he complied and closed his eyes tightly shut as he took the jumper from my hands and pulled it over his head, his hair fluffing up in the process. “How do I look? Can I open my eyes?”
My hysterical laughter was the only response Rick got, and as he opened his eyes and recognised his reflection he too began to grin.
“What… what the hell is this, Y/N?”
“It’s a Christmas jumper!” I replied between giggles. The jumper had a huge, tacky reindeer’s head stitched onto the front, with a wreath surrounding it. It was obnoxious and just so ugly, but somehow Rick managed to pull it off.
“You’re unbelievable, it’s like, July,” he chuckled, wiping at his eyes that had watered with the intensity of his laughs.
“Squeeze the nose,” I managed to choke out; Judith was also giggling at this point, her head resting tiredly on my shoulder. Rick squeezed the nose, and even before the song began my eyes were streaming once again, the hilarity of the situation was too much.
The jumper sang out an incredibly slow, warped version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, the batteries had quite obviously seen better days. Rick looked at me in horror as the song rang out, before a huge grin spread over his face. He squeezed the nose repeatedly in an attempt to stop the awful music, but each time he pressed it the song would start from the beginning again. By the time the song had finally finished, Rick and I had aching faces and stomachs from giggling so much.
“Doesn’t Daddy look adorable in his jumper, Judith?” I asked, tickling her cheek lightly and nodding towards her father, who was modelling the jumper in an incredibly cheesy fashion, as if he were on a runway.
“Yeah,” Judith replied, and Rick and I gazed at each other with wide eyes and open mouths after registering what had just happened.
“Did she just-” I began to say, but Rick interrupted me by shouting for Carl.
“What’s going on?” Carl asked as he rushed into the room, shaking his head in amusement and smirking to himself as he noticed his father’s outfit. “You look so ridiculous, Dad. Nice work, Y/N.”
“Judith just said ‘yeah’,” Rick gushed, kissing his daughter’s head proudly, unable to wipe the smile from his overjoyed face. “Didn’t you, Judith?”
“Yeah,” she said again, more confidently. The three of us cheered and fussed over her; I swung her around in the air which made her squeal in excitement, before passing her over to her proud brother. I didn’t recognise it at the time, but everything seemed ordinary in that moment, like there weren’t dead people walking around outside the walls of Alexandria. And, on top of that, Rick and I seemed ordinary, our relationship feeling so natural, and so perfect.
Evening had fallen, and once Rick had put Judith to bed and had said goodnight to Carl and everyone else, he entered his bedroom to find me curled up underneath his sheets.
“Hello, you,” he said with a yawn, slipping underneath the warm sheets to join me. He wrapped his arms around my waist, raising an eyebrow suggestively as he noticed I was wearing only my underwear. I rolled my eyes in jest at his cheekiness, and he chuckled and pulled me closer to him so that I could roll onto his chest. Just as I was admiring the soft, warm fabric of his jumper, an all-too-familiar song began to play; I must have crushed the reindeer’s nose.
“Oh, not again,” Rick groaned as his jumper began to play Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer; luckily the batteries must have ran out halfway through the song, either that or it broke when Rick pulled it over his head and threw it forcefully against the wall.
His fingers twisted gently in my hair that was splayed out across his bare chest as I admired the constellations of moles and freckles decorating his skin. I ran my fingers along the light tufts of hair on his chest, loving the way it tickled my cheek when I nuzzled into him. His other hand was occupied by tracing patterns over my back, lulling me into a comfortable sleepiness.
“I love seeing you with Carl and Judith,” Rick half-whispered, his voice husky.
“I love spending time with you all,” I replied in a mumble, moving my head upwards so that I was resting in the crook of his neck.
“It’s like everything’s normal, you know?” I nodded in response, giving him a light kiss on the neck. “Hearing you call me daddy, seeing you holding my daughter and making my son smile.”
“So you like it when I call you daddy?” I teased, propping myself up on one elbow and facing him with a mischievous smirk. “That’s a little kinky.”
“Stop it,” Rick grumbled, running a hand through his hair and trying to restrain the sides of his mouth from turning up in amusement. “That’s not what I meant.”
“Whatever, Grimes,” I joked, before giving him a quick kiss on the lips and turning to face away from him. I was thankful that he couldn’t see my blushing face as his hands ran upwards from my waist, his calloused fingers causing me to shiver. Suddenly his hands had reached up to unfasten my bra, and he was tossing it onto the floor alongside his jumper.
“What was that for?” I asked, turning round to face him, my face even redder than before. I watched as Rick attempted to stifle a laugh, before he whispered directly into my ear.
“What daddy wants, daddy gets.” He could barely finish the phrase before bursting into laughter, burying his embarrassed face into the pillow, and soon enough I too was spluttering and sitting with my mouth wide open in both shock and amusement, shaking my head in disbelief.
“I’m starting to think you actually do have some sort of kink,” I mocked, but before Rick could object, loud cries called out from the direction of Judith’s room. Our childish giggles must have woken her up; hopefully we didn’t disturb everyone else also.
“I’ll go.” I said with a sleepy smile, rolling out of bed and stretching as I stood up.
“You sure, Y/N?” Rick asked, his eyes unsubtly fixated on my naked torso.
“I’m sure,” I reassured him, admiring the way he looked all tangled up in the bedsheets, his hair messy and his eyes half-shut. I wished Glenn still had his Polaroid so I that could take a picture of Rick in that moment and preserve it. Pulling that goddamn jumper over my head, and feeling surprised at how comfortable it was, I flashed Rick a sleepy grin before leaving to tend to Judith, finding myself singing that stupid Christmas song to help her fall asleep.
