“When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.”

Why is capitalism bad for the environment?
Capitalism (and neoclassical economic theory) were developed in a world where the economy was small relative to the containing ecosystem. Therefore it made sense that the economy could grow without impacting the ecosystem. The limiting factor was man-made (i.e. labor).

Today, humans (and the things which we have produced) are not small relative to the containing ecosystem. The limiting factor is not labor, it is our natural resources. Before, increasing the number of ships would increase the amount of fish caught. But if there are no fish left, then no amount of extra ships will increase the catch size (figure from Daly, 2005).

The problem with capitalism is that it does not recognise this obvious physical conflict between the growth of the economy and the preservation of the environment.

  • he calls your house and invites you out to lunch
  • at first you’re confused af, like???? where’d you get the money???
  • he tells you not to worry about it (in reality he stole from his dad,,,, the beating later will be worth seeing you tho so it’s cool)
  • when you arrive at the small diner he chose, you catch sight of him at sitting in a corner table at a large window; when he spots you through the glass, his tanned face lights up and you can’t suppress the small giggle that erupts from your throat
  • he gives you the Hug of All Hugs when you get inside, kissing each of your cheeks like 80 times and rubbing your waist with his hands
  • he holds your hand as he walks you to the table, and has you sit next to him
  • throughout the entire meal, it’s as if he can’t keep himself off you (but not in a sexual way)
  • one of his hands always makes it’s way to either your lower arm or lower thigh, rubbing small circles and squeezing as the two of you talk
  • on multiple occasions, he rests his scruffy puppy dog head on your shoulder, a content sigh leaving his lips and fluttering your heart
  • he looks directly into your eyes as you speak, something strange (but most definitely not unwelcome)
  • after eating, you two take a short walk around town
  • his arms are either around your shoulders or waist, and his mouth is never too far from the crook of your neck
  • again, there’s nothing sexual about his actions
  • when you finally stop in front of your house and he has to leave, he wraps his arms around your waist, pulls your body flush against his, and locks your lips in a deep kiss
  • when you two part, your mouth is open in shock, his cheeks are flushed, and he walks away like the biggest man on earth (which he most definitely was)
I’m just putting this out there

But can we quit with simulation programming to help folx “understand an experience they’re not familiar with” because not only does it imply a “look how hard disabled people have it” mentality, but it’s just not what you should be striving for in programming for disability awareness/acceptance?

I also want to note on a personal level that as a HOH person, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE BY PUTTING IN EARPLUGS. I CAN’T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. IT IS NOT THE SAME THING LET ME TELL YOU. and fucking frankly it’s super disrespectful.

i have had it up to HERE with casual ableism today.

H.E. Alt. Ending - Michael Gray

For @theaqueenakaspeedy and @emislayyyy74 because they both said they wanted a happy ending for Michael.

Hackney Empire pt. 1 | pt. 2 | pt. 3 | Alternate Ending - Michael Gray

As soon as Tommy told you that your home wasn’t safe anymore you  left for London. You knew you would have to leave, there was no way Sabini would spare you. Seeing Michael with that other girl cemented the fear you’d had all along, that he was using you for information. You felt like that helpless country girl all over again, getting left alone while your best friend went looking for something better. There were so many questions swarming around in your mind but you didn’t want an answer to any of them. If this girl was something to him, if she loved him, you didn’t want to know. All you wanted was to pack your things and find the quickest way out of London.

A knock on the door downstairs startled you. Sabini was supposed to be in Brighton but what if he had returned early. He liked to surprise you with visits. You took your suitcase and stuffed it under the bed. You tried to ease your breathing and you fixed your appearance in the mirror. If it was Sabini, and who else would be visiting you here, you couldn’t let on that anything was wrong.

A strong life force can be seen in physical vitality, courage, competent judgment, self-mastery, sexual vigor, and the realization of each person’s unique talents and purpose in life. To maintain a powerful life force, forget yourself, forget about living and dying, and bring your full attention into this moment.
