Gregor Hohenberg: Traditional Couture

In a new book by Gestalten, Traditional Couture, photographer Gregor Hohenberg attempts to uncover the answers to such questions by building a visual bridge between the outmoded and the avant-garde in German folkloric fashion. For more than five years, the Berlin-based photographer travelled through 22 regions of his homeland with a simple idea in mind: to stage traditional clothing in the same way he does when photographing fashion for high-profile magazines. Hohenberg chose to shoot the costumes on their actual owners, young and old alike, using their natural habitat as a backdrop. (text by Eleni Papaioannou)
