Just received this email from Ellen Sheehan, Director of the Grace Kelly Museum:
Hi Sheila,Great to hear from you. The Grace Kelly museum is located in East Falls at the Falls Center, 3300 Henry Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. 19129. This is the former site of the Woman’s Medical College and Hospital, now Drexel University College of Medicine. Mrs. Margaret Kelly, Grace’s mother, was board chairman of the hospital for many years and was a tireless fund raiser for the hospital, as was Grace. We are happy to have a space associated with meaning to her life and work. As the first medical hospital for women in the nation it is on the National Register of Historic places. The museum is on the side as you enter the building. We have posters of Grace’s movies, signed photos of her and the prince (and Prince Albert and his wife, Princess Charlene.) There are two cabinets with dolls dressed in the famous designer dresses of her movies and life as a princess. We have a large signed and numbers portrait, the original hangs in the palace. Linens, plates and scarfs designed by Grace in her flower designs, to raise money for her foundation, are part of the collection. The Grace Kelly stamp and stamps of Monaco are also part of the collection and much more.We also have mementos of the Kelly family. “Kelly for Brickwork” items, glassware, etc. Signed copies of her uncle George Kelly’s plays and records of her uncle Walter, “The Virginia Judge.”Volunteer students from Philadelphia University, interns from Temple University School of Art are helping with the museum. They have scanned and archived all documents from the collection, assisted in the beautification and placement of items and presently are designing a brochure and a scrapbook/binder of her life. The museum is open for anyone to see. We anticipate a “Grand Opening” with the family in the spring when the brochure, invitations and appropriate date are established. Please keep in touch and let all the fans of Grace Kelly know that the only permanent museum to Grace in the world exists in her home town of East Falls. Regards, Ellen
We need to begin planning a GraceCon NOW. Start saving your money, y'all!
Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco What started out as a scheduled meeting between a silver screen icon and royalty ended in a fairytale wedding. Looking back on her marriage to Prince Rainier, Grace Kelly said: ‘When I married Prince Rainier, I married the man and not what he represented or what he was. I fell in love with him without giving a thought to anything else.’
THIS BLOG IS DEDICATED TO THE TIMELESS AND INIMITABLE ACTRESS AND FASHION ICON, GRACE KELLY, WHO LATER BECAME PRINCESS GRACE OF MONACO. MY GOAL IS TO SHARE PHOTOGRAPHS, QUOTES, BIOGRAPHICAL EXCERPTS, AND TRIVIA WITH OTHER GRACE FANS. WITH RARE EXCEPTION, I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THE PHOTOS I POST AND INTEND NO INFRINGEMENT. I AM JUST A HUGE FAN AND COLLECTOR OF ITEMS RELATED TO HIS INSPIRATIONAL WOMAN!
