Alphaville - Big In Japan
Forget what you think you know about Alphaville, which is to say you probably danced to Forever Young in high school (e.g. prom, homecoming, your basement, whatever) and thought that was the end of them. Nope. While Big in Japan is ostensibly lesser than from a radio play metric, I think it’s one of their best songs and not grating like the saccharin vampire anthem.
For the record, I first heard some of their catalog (History) at the same sleepover I watched Sleepaway Camp for the first time (one of my favorite horror flicks), and I remember the entire roof of my mouth being destroyed from a Captain Crunch (with Crunchberries) binge, followed by getting wrecked sneaking booze from the liquor cabinet. This is only interesting in that I’d be happy doing all those things on any given Saturday night, still, which causes me to wonder about the parts of us that never change.
