Calling out to all people on Tumblr that complain about the lack of diversity on television.

It has a largely diverse cast in period costumes, like c’mon.

The main female lead is Black and is in no way an accessory for the White male lead. They are equals (in fact she might have a tad bit more screen time).

There are strong, bad ass women that really overshadow their male counterparts at times.

*Also if you’re a fan of the enemies turned lovers trope, then you will absolutely love this.

Please support this! We have lost some great diverse shows because of the undeserved low ratings. Don’t let this be another one.

Friendly Reminders for 80% of Tumblr:

  • Not all white people are racist 😊
  • Not all straight people are homophobic 😊
  • Not all cis people are transphobic 😊
  • Not all men are sexist 😊
  • Not all cops are dirtbags 😊
  • Not all conservatives are bad 😊
  • Not all liberals are bad 😊
  • Not all religious people suck 😊
  • Not all atheists suck 😊
  • Let’s just all put our biases aside and get the fuck along as people 😊😊😊

I’m going to address this (from YouTube) here as well, because the belief that people of color can’t be racist, period, is a fallacy I see all the time on Tumblr.

People of color do not have the systemic privilege to be racist against white people. It’s a fallacy, however, that POC can’t be racist against POC, especially when it comes to colorism and antiblackness.

Colorism is a huge issue in the African American community. A segment of Black men are notorious for hating on darkskin women online. Do they get a pass because they’re Black? Fuck no.

So why do POC in fandom think their pocness is a shield that makes it impossible to be racist? It doesn’t work like that. Colorism and antiblackness infect all races. It doesn’t fall under “reverse racism,” there is no immunity against it.

As a lightskin (not passing) Black person, I would be lying if I said I’ve never in my life had a colorist or antiblack thought. It’s something most people living in a white supremacist society have to work on, including POC.

It’s very easy to disregard racism because a few POC don’t see it as racist or because a systemic racial concept has been twisted to say that POC cannot be racist in any way, shape or form. It’s just not true.

I'm sorry, but maybe I'm being dense and I apologize for this, but I'm a little confused about the making tumblr an adjective. It says lgbt tumblr would say a gay trans person is het and cis cause they think being trans is a medical condition. But isn't the opposite true? Wouldn't they have to say the person is gay and trans since they would need treatment/therapy/ect for their gender dysphoria?

Oh, no, no, no.

There are LGBT Tumblr users (like myself and other random people that happen to be LGBT and have a Tumblr account) and then there’s LGBT Tumblr™, people that may or may not even be truly LGBT that are completely awful.

General LGBT Tumblr users: *are just LGBT people that use Tumblr*
LGBT Tumblr™: “You don’t need gender dysphoria to be trans, we hate The Straights, gay men are oppressors, accepting bisexuality is lesbophobic,” etc.

You find the same thing in every group.

General Jewish Tumblr users: *are just Jewish people that use Tumblr*
Jewish Tumblr™ [Jumblr]: “All non-Jews are antisemitic, mocking Nazis is antisemitic, witches are antisemitic, if a character has a big nose they’re ‘Jewish-coded,’“ etc.

General black Tumblr users: *are just black people that use Tumblr*
Black Tumblr™: “All white people are racist, other minority groups that talk about racism against them are anti-black racists, black people that don’t hate white people are [insert unironic anti-black racial slurs] and traitors, every achievement throughout history is secretly down to black people,” etc.

Two entirely different things. There are Tumblr users and then there are Tumblr Users™.

@nd tumblr

I think it really needs to be said in a more formal way why mental illness Tumblr seriously needs to evaluate what they’re doing. Before I get into this, I wanna say that I know this is just a website and I have a choice in what communities I interact with, but when you are living in an abusive environment and you have nobody to look to but your abusers you usually go to social media. I went to Tumblr because it is the most accepting when it comes to mental illness to some extent, because people didn’t immediately judge me or hate me for my symptoms.

Note: sorry for the strange school-esque organization, i just did headings to make it easier to read for people

Anti-recovery and promoting unhealthy mindsets

For the most part, mental illness Tumblr barely promotes recovery or healthy coping mechanisms. Mi Tumblr (mental illness Tumblr) is mostly talking about symptoms in a unhealthy way and are just saying that suffering is a good thing. I completely understand that being mentally ill comes with a ton of negativity within yourself. It is healthy to talk about your problems, it’s good to be open and to reach out to others, but never promoting good vibes or good coping mechanisms in return is not helping. When someone is having any type of episode, they need help, maybe not immediately for some people because they are in too bad of a state to immediately recover from the episode (just listen to what they need), but they should get support and comfort sometime soon. It’s absolutely ideal to recover and/or get in the habit of healthy coping mechanisms. I feel that mi Tumblr isn’t helping us recover or creating a safe environment for nd folk by not normalizing healthy mindsets and healthy coping mechanisms, they are normalizing the suffering and unhealthy ways to deal with your symptoms. Most posts are just talking about our awful experiences and then ending it there. There is literally no support or comfort afterwards. I understand wanting to relate with others when talking about your mental health. It’s great to know that others are going through the same and you’re not alone, but just do not end it there, for your own health. Try to make a support system for each other with this person since they relate with you. Talk about it with people and try to help each other out. One more example I want to bring into light, is when people reblog others personal posts. Personal posts are for venting and it’s not made for others to spread, but people reblog it anyway for the aesthetic and are not taking the op’s feelings seriously.

I want to get this through with a lot of people that recovering or improving in controlling or coping with your symptoms does not make you invalid. It is okay to recover, it does not make you obsolete to the mental illness community.

Memes within the community

I want to speak about the whole meme thing going on about mental illness. I can understand that joking about stuff can help you cope, but making mi this huge meme isn’t good for a lot of people. For nd folk, making these memes within the community makes them feel like it’s okay to suffer, like it’s okay and a laughing matter to be depressed or that “lmao i wanna kill yourself everyday.” People make all of these jokes and then say nothing about help and don’t express care for those who are suffering afterwards, it’s just a joke to them. It just promotes more anti-recovery for people. My boyfriend has had actual problems within the community where he would be feeling down and terrible and say “I feel depressed,” and people would actually laugh at him, because it’s a meme within the community to say “I’m so depressed,” or like i said earlier, “I wanna kill myself everyday.” I’ve had similar experiences where I would say “I want to fucking die,” or that “I hate living,” and I am actually entirely genuine and I feel suicidal as hell and people just laugh. People laugh, because they think it’s just a funny meme that everyone parrots in the mi community. It makes me feel disheartened and I regret being open about it because people just laugh within the community because they think i’m just making a meme. All of our feelings aren’t a joke and every nd person knows that, so don’t create these mi memes that we laugh at when they’re an actual serious matter. I understand venting with making jokes, I really do, but do not post it and make it go viral, just keep it personal if you need a way to say something without all of the heavy feelings carried with it. Saying a joke about your mi to avoid talking about the heavy feelings and just mentioning it in a not serious tone is not the best way to tell someone about your problems though. It should be normalized to talk about the heavy emotions when it comes to your feelings, you shouldn’t repress it with making a meme to mask what you’re really feeling. I can understand being afraid of disclosing something that personal to people and saying a joke instead, to sort of say something but not really be serious. Even though this makes sense, try your best to sit down with someone and really talk about your issues to avoid the awkwardness that the jokes could create and also avoid repressing your feelings. These memes about mi to me are just a way of repressing what we truly feel and I don’t think it’s healthy to do that. It should be communnity-wide to feel safe when talking about the heavy stuff and not ignore your feelings, bottling it all up.

Peer pressure

Mi Tumblr makes people feel like they should experience constant negative symptoms to fit in. (”You have to be this negative and upset to be mentally ill”) Having this pressure to be in a perpetuating negative state expressed so often in the community can make us not want to recover because they want to maintain their bad habits to fit in. If you end up recovering or noticing you’re getting better you’ll feel invalid and self conscious about this and want to get back to the unhealthy mindset that Tumblr promotes. I can absolutely vouch for this, absolutely. I have a bunch of mental problems and when I started to date my boyfriend I got a whole lot better about my mental health and I felt I was really starting recovery finally. I looked back at mi Tumblr and I started to get afraid I wasn’t valid as being mentally ill anymore and I started to get back to square 1 because of the lack of talk about recovery in the community. My boyfriend has had same experiences and I also talked to one of my friends about this and she said Tumblr has made her feel mentally worse ever since she joined.

Age groups

The majority of the mi community are minors and are really young in general, and I feel having all of the above normalized in this community is awful to teach these kids at such a young age. The friend I mentioned in the “Peer pressure” paragraph at the ending when I said “I also talked to one of my friends about this and she said Tumblr has made her feel mentally worse ever since she joined,” she is 14 y.o.

Overall, just learning all of the crap from mi Tumblr is honestly really bad for the minors in the community. For those of you who cannot turn to anything but social media: try to find someone with the same problems as you and create a support system. Try to share coping mechanisms that could help or be there for each other whenever. Make support groups and try to steer away from mi Tumblr, it’s unhealthy as fuck. I could sit and talk about all of the awful coping mechanisms I have seen on this site, but that would be a whole new post. Don’t listen to that stuff, if it involves triggering you or making you upset or lying to yourself in the slightest, just don’t do it. Be safe and treat yourselves right and try to recover together and help each other out. Enough of this perpetuating negativity in the community.

I wish we could get all the fall tumblr people to move to a town or start a town where there are a lot of trees and victorian homes, brick homes, and stone houses. And just how amazing would fall be there with everyone?

It’s official. We’re all moving to Salem.

Dear Tumblr: Not all white people, cis people, and heterosexual people are bigots who want to eat your soul.

Some, I daresay most, of them are *gasp* people like you! Who can have a wide variety of beliefs and worldviews! Some of which are in line with yours and some of which are not!

And I’m honestly sick of seeing racism, cisphobia, and heterophobia going unchecked on this website. It’s disgusting. Being treated like shit is not an excuse to treat others like shit. A white person called you a n-word? That’s awful - but not every white person is like that. Or if a straight person calls you a f*g - again, a terrible thing, but not all straight people are like that.

Also, being bigoted against one group while complaining against being prejudiced against you is hypocrisy. Plain and simple. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I see this shit every single day on here, and it just really pisses me off. Tumblr is supposed to be accepting people and their differences, but I just don’t see it. This website is so toxic. It’s really discouraging to see a website that promotes itself as being a diverse place for everyone being blatantly prejudiced towards certain groups. The opposite of what is advertised.

It’s not right. And I’m not going to be quiet about it.

Tl:dr being prejudiced against any group is not good, fucking stop

I’ve always wanted to make one of these so

Here is Voltron, according to what I’ve seen on my dash, from someone who has never watched it and knows nothing of the characters.

This is Lance. He’s a jerk but he’s homesick and I can relate to that. He’s the fun-loving energetic sly one who’s always getting into trouble. He misses his family and just wants to go home. The poor guy.

This is Keith. People ship him with Lance. I don’t know much about him but he looks cool. Maybe he’s the cool type, like Kyoya from Ouran, or Otabek from Yuri On Ice. He looks like the level-headed person of the bunch.

This is Pidge. I know even less about him but when I first saw his name all over tumblr, I thought people were talking about Pidgey the Pokemon and he does look like a bird so. Probably really shy but really skilled. Protect him at all costs.

This is Shiro. He has a cool name and cool hair. Is he the dad figure? He looks like a disciplinarian. These guys all fight in (with?) robots, and his is probably the strongest. People do really amazing cosplays of this guy. Props to you all.

How did I do?

I have a genuine question, I'm seemingly in the middle and trying to get view points and perspectives. I assume you speak of Marxism, where the people rule? It has always been an ideology and never taken into effect unless with a dictator. Socialism is seemingly great, but it always fails. People don't want to work just to be taxed an insane amount so people who don't work get a check. That's why it usually fails, because people stop working and money ceases. Why are you for communism?

theres so much here thats wrong and simply assumed that i really don’t want to get into it because it’s obnoxious and we get asked the same shit all the time. like you could literally go through our blog a bit and have every single one of your points knocked down because they’re all wrong. but I digress.

1) there have been countless communities where the people ruled, which exist before marxism was ever even written about, kropotkin talks about a few in the very beginning of the conquest of bread, but as you should know humans have been around for 200,000+ years, and during this time we’ve lived under countless social structures, which includes, but is not limited to, a rule of the people. It worked. It worked for a long time. The state and capitalism fucked it up. But that’s something you’ll have to research on your own because this is already fuck long.

2) There are no taxes under communism, none, because there is no capital … no private property, there is nothing to tax, capital does not exist. so try to comprehend that for a second before applying capitalist ideas onto a communist framework

3) people don’t want to do fuck nothing. People get bored as shit. notwithstanding the fact that people already do shit they aren’t paid to do: laundry, dishes, vacuuming, organizing, showering, brushing their teeth, etc. You know what happens when a person isn’t capable of doing this shit? They typically get help or die, because if you can’t or have no want to work at all on anything there is literally something wrong with you, it’s not the typical human experience.

And I suppose I could show you the whole cities using the universal basic income shit and how people still work under that but I feel like you should already understand people do shit all the time without monetary compensation, and when people aren’t worrying about if they’re going to die or not from their job they tend to produce a lot better content and work in places more suited to their interests and skills

You think all these people on tumblr who write pages and pages of informational texts, or make graphs just for fun, or draw all the time just for fun, or do hours and hours of research and so on for no compensation just would stop fucking working if they had their basic needs provided for? thats fuck ignorant and completely lacks a basic understanding of people

4) again, there are no checks, capital is abolished, there is no state, there are no taxes, you fundamentally misunderstand the most basic aspects of communism. please do some research before coming to random people on the internet and spewing bullshit that isn’t goddamn true and stating it as fact when it goddamn well isnt.

It's honestly so unbelievably frustrating when people keep insisting to use the fact that snape was a death eater as a 'gotcha' for how he's a terrible human being, because snape changed, he showed regret, he tried to fix his mistakes, and those people refuse to see that. How awful to be so unwilling to forgive, to insist that one action is enough to condemn someone forever. And it's so damaging to see that, because they're telling us that no one should forgive us for our mistakes.

it’s definitely a symptom of tumblr culture to look at his character like that tbh. in tumblr morality, the moment someone does ONE problematic thing (regardless of the “level” of problematic) they’re immediately and forever a Bad Person EVEN if they apologize for the problematic thing or if it happened years ago when they were younger and didnt know better and theyve done way better stuff since, and so on. it doesn’t matter bc all tumblr culture judges people on is if they’ve DONE a problematic thing, not the circumstances around it, the time it happened, the level of remorse the person feels for having done it, the badness of the problematic thing, and so on.

so yeah, for tumblr the fact that snape joined the death eaters trumps the fact that he left, that spent nearly half of his life actively working against them, that he was instrumental to their demise, that he shows clear signs of no longer believing in their ideology. none of them matters bc he did the problematic thing. it’s the same with the mudblood incident - bc he said it to lily, it doesnt matter that he apologized for it, that he clearly regrets it, that he hates the use of it afterward, that he was under pretty heavy emotional stress at the moment when he lashed out, and so on.

when it comes to call-out culture, nuance means nothing. complexity doesn’t exist. forgiveness is a foreign concept. all that matters is: this person/character did something Bad and therefore we must hate them and if you like them then you’re clearly a terrible person or ignoring the Bad thing they did.

the fact of the matter is that yeah, snape joined the death eaters. he was young, he was stupid, and rowling makes it very clear to us that many of the young people who joined the de have little to no idea of what it actually entails. he makes a pretty huge mistake that ruins the rest of his life. and when he gets out, he doesn’t run away or hide or try and cover up his mistakes… he joins the order. he protects harry, he follows dumbledore, and he spends twenty years undermining the death eaters and helping to defeat voldemort. he changes. he’s a very different man when the series starts than he is when he was 20, and an even more different man when he dies. so it’s beyond frustrating to have people freeze him when he’s 15, when he’s 20, and refuse to see the adult the became - who is still flawed, no doubt, but who doesn’t hold the same beliefs and doesn’t follow the same regime.

but anyone who’s stuck in call-out culture is never going to be able to accept that and it’s sickening and frustrating and it makes it really hard to discuss snape with them.

Today was amazing! I managed to see both the Slow Mo Guys and Off Topic panels and ran into Caiti out on the main floor (she was really lovely and we talked a bit about some education programs) <3

Gavin and Dan are both super cute and Dan had never seen that SMG playing card before (even though his face is literally on it and Gavin told him he would have had to sign a release form for it) also Gavin was drawing on Dan’s arm with the marker whenever he wasn’t looking and got into a water bottle fight with Kerry when he was leaving the autograph area

Miles noticed my cosplay and complimented it! :’) :’)

And all the people from tumblr I ran into were SUPER LOVELY IT WAS SO NICE MEETING YOU GUYS I loved speaking to you in person!!! I would love to meet more of you tomorrow so please don’t be shy <3 <3 <3

10/10 day also i have learned that being in cosplay is a ridiculous amount of fun and i’m kinda sad I didn’t plan another one for tomorrow LOL

I would just like to point something out

To all the people on tumblr making jokes about “killing a dictator” in the Ides of March tag in a very obvious attempt to tactlessly mock/passive aggressively threaten Trump…

…You do realize that when they did that the very thing the conspirators didn’t want happened (Rome became an Empire with basically a hereditary line of absolute monarch) and they were all killed for their trouble?

You–you know that right?

Often times in the most (in)famous cases of political assassinations rater than lead to the “freeing” of the people or society it in fact often lead to the EXACT OPPOSITE since violence gives an excuse for a violent retaliation and suppression?

Can you just maturely accept that you lost a perfectly fair election and can *gaspchoke* try again next time around? Because just in case you didn’t notice we live in a beautiful place called AMERICA where we have this thing called ELECTIONS where you can, without threat of government or party reprisal, vote for whoever you want? And that the President isn’t an absolute monarch but a man hemmed in by MANY rules and laws purposely designed to limit his power so as to avoid anything even close to dictatorship?

So maybe you want to think twice before making your very tasteless (and might I add very undemocratic sentiment) public? Or just, you know, educate yourself a little bit? Please?
