BEACH BOYS - WOULDN’T IT BE NICE
Still one of my all-time favorite Beach Boys songs.

D’ANGELO - REALLY LOVE
The groove in this song is unreal. It’s like the bass is being dragged by the drums. I love it.

FRANK SINATRA - CURSE OF AN ACHING HEART
One of Frank’s faster songs. “And although you’re not true/May God bless you/That’s the curse of an aching heart.”

MICHAEL JACKSON - DON’T STOP ’TIL YOU GET ENOUGH
I will never not dance to this song.

QUEEN - SOMEBODY TO LOVE
The vocal performances and production in this song are unmatched.

NOFX - WE THREW GASOLINE ON THE FIRE AND NOW WE HAVE STUMPS FOR ARMS AND NO EYEBROWS
This song was one of my favorites growing up. Love getting back to my punk roots.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - I’M ON FIRE
The sweetest and simplest tag line to any song. The chorus is literally three words. Beautiful.

KENDRICK LAMAR - ALRIGHT
This song kills any bad mood for me. Always a good pick-me-up.

JACK U - WHERE ARE U NOW
I remember hearing this for the first time and just thinking, “Wow. How do you.. What?!” Great production.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - DOWN RODEO
You can always recognize a Tom Morello riff. I thought I was such a badass when I listened to this song as a kid.

DAVID BOWIE - LET’S DANCE
I wouldn’t be doing what I get to do if it were not for Bowie’s immense inspiration and talent. There will never be another.

BEYONCE - DRUNK IN LOVE
Another song with great production. And Beyonce’s vocals are always a humbling reminder that I can always improve as a singer and artist.

ZAPP - MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE
I’m so glad I was introduced to this group by way of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. The funkiest.

THE B52s - ROCK LOBSTER
I’ve always wanted to write a party-friendly song. Never thought I would write one using this song as a sample.

DONNY HATHAWAY - A SONG FOR YOU
The piano and vocals in this song are somber, complex, beautiful, and just overall incredible. Makes me want to get better as a pianist and vocalist.

WILSON PICKETT - LAND OF 1000 DANCES
This song takes me back to being a kid and dancing around my living room. Does it every time.

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS - WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES
Every time i hear this song, I picture myself on a boat in some ludicrously short shorts. Just imagine it. Yeah.

FRENZAL RHOMB - WHEN MY BABY SMILES AT ME I GO TO REHAB
Another punk listen. Super fast. Super catchy.

SYLVAN ESSO - HEY MAMI
This song has very cool production. Starts off with a bunch of “room” sounds and open air. Which makes the beat entrance that much better.

Rumiko Week - Day #1: Favorite Female Characters

A lone African-American student waits for class to start at a newly integrated high school. Robert W. Kelley. Clinton, Tennessee, 1956

That’s courage right there. If anyone asks what it looks like. #Love it!
