finnick odair, who took care of an old woman in the arena, who learned how to take care of his mentally ill wife and taught peeta how to calm down using what he learned, who put himself in charge of helping peeta, who was used by the capitol for his body and refused to ever be a pawn again, who was nothing like anyone assumed, was a better character than anyone deserved tbh

  • Father: Oh my god, he's gonna say father!!
  • Baby: f-f
  • Father: Come on son, let it out
  • Baby: f-finnick odair is such an underappreciated character who won the hunger games at age 14 was prostituted at age 16 and on top of that he couldn't be with the woman he loved and was reaped for a quarter quell with a woman who was like a mother to him and his friendship with katniss was truly important because he is truly the only one who can understand what she was going through they both felt like they had let down their loved ones down and honestly I hate that the movies cut down so much of their friendship and I hate in general how little we get of finnick odair in general like he deserves better and we deserve better and he's such a kind and selfless soul despite all that he's been through like he literally sacrificed his life for the rebellion so millions of people could be saved and the fact that he went though hell and back just to protect annie is so like he loves her so much and the level of love and intimacy the two share in their relationship is unreal and I'm forever disappointed that we didn't get a lot more of them in the movies because their relationship is so unlike any other relationship I've ever seen and the fact that he didn't even get to see his son or even find out that he was gonna be a father and he didn't get his happy ending with annie which is all he ever wanted and he deserved the freaking world and finnick odair is just really underrated, you feel me?
  • Father: ...
  • what she says: I'm fine
  • what she means: Finnick Odair didn't deserve to die, he just got married and lived his entire life either fighting for his life or being sold for his body plus his wife can barely keep her sanity without him and she was pregnant and he never got to meet his son and he was always helping Katniss and especially Peeta even after he was hijacked and he got eaten by some gross slimy mutts in the end

Today I went to see Mockingjay Pt2 for the second time, and I could really focus on the details this time around. The main thing I really paid close attention to was Finnick’s treatment of Peeta throughout the movie.

Finnick stays close to Peeta, always speaking softly, incouragingly “yeah you got it!”, almost always walking along beside him with a hand going to his shoulder or bag. During the scene where they’re running up the stairs to get away from the hot oil(?), Finnick doesn’t really let any of the other Unit members touch Peeta, restraining him and tranquilizing Peeta himself, locking his arms around Peeta and lowering him to the ground.

Earlier in the movie, when Peeta and Katniss are talking and the Unit is trying to sleep, Peeta gets a little upset, his voice rising, and Finnick immediately wakes up, like he’s done this a hundred times before. “Just ask, that’s what Annie does.”

I came to the realization that Finnick acts this way with Peeta because he’s had to deal with something like this before, with Annie.

This is the Finnick that Annie fell in love with, the Finnick that was soft spoken and encouraging of even the littlest of victories. The Finnick that would have gently touched her hand when he saw her losing focus or wrap his arms around her and not dare let go when she would thrash and scream and cry. The Finnick that might have slept beside her bed because he knew she had nightmares, he’d wake up as soon as he heard her crying, and he’d tell her to ask him whatever she needed to know, he’d tell her everything.

Everyone else in their group, even Katniss for a while, treated Peeta like a bomb, a weapon, and Finnick must have taken one look at Peeta and remembered what Annie was like after she came back from her games, and knew exactly how to take care of Peeta.
