FIRSTrobotics

I guess I’m unveiling a new blog I thought of. There’s lots of things to complain about in FIRST. Batteries dying or falling out, wires coming out of their WAGOs, or the terrible sound of stepping on a zip-tie. This blog is for all of those!

(Sorry for the date being off, I promise it won’t happen again!)

(Also, I won’t pollute the tags much past today. Just trying to get awareness for the blog!)

  • I realize this only furthers my reputation as a nerd but I have just purchased a set of anti-fog wipes for my safety glasses at competition and that makes me really excited because usually they fog up so much that I can't see which is kind of a problem if I'm the robot operator. I realize this makes very little sense to those not involved in FIRST but the main point is I am spoiling myself by embracing my inner nerd : )

Help bring FIRST Robotics to the Common Application

I’m a high school senior and FIRST Robotics has had a huge impact on my life. I was saddened when I realized that I couldn’t include something so pivotal in many of my college applications. So this is how we’re taking steps to change that. Please sign the petition, leave a note about why FIRST is important to you, and share with your team/friends!

Well I'm crying. Just wrote this. And crying.

Four years ago I attended my first FIRST robotics competition ever in San Diego,CA. And now four years later I’m a senior “graduating” from FIRST at her last regional.

Over the years, I’ve been told that I wasn’t cut out for FIRST by a mentor, that I should give up, and that I could spend my time doing something else. I’ve been pushed away so many times and told to find another passion.

But I never let that get to me. I am still one of the most dedicated and robot obsessed people you will ever meet, despite the hardships FIRST and I have gone through.

I am the person I am today because of FIRST. I am someone who is always ready to drive an hour or two to volunteer at an event, I’m someone who’s will take up anything thrown at her, I’m someone who will never ever give up on something. I’m someone who will never leave the FIRST program, because robotics inspired and changed my life forever. I really don’t know who I would be without it.

And to those who have stood by me and believed in me, when no one else would, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart. To my parents, to NSG, to my wonderful boyfriend and his family, to my robotics friends, to my best friend, to my team, I thank you.

Thank you for a great four years in this amazing and life changing program.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for FIRST and me.
