19445 The first time I heard Amy Lee’s voice I was 9 and it was of course the luxurious song, My Immortal. At the time my little brother passed away. Even at a young age I could feel the emotion in her voice when she was singing…little did I know I would be a huge fan of hers years later who shaped my teen years and inspired me to play piano.
“I remember waking up to seeing music videos shown on MTV in the mornings. I was only four when Evanescence made their break through on the charts. At that time my family owned a projector and had surround sound. So? I would wake up to seeing Amy Lee and hearing her rock goddess voice. I thought it was pretty rad how I spent my mornings listen to Evanescence blaring throughout my house. It may of seemed pretty lame to others, but to me it was the birth of confidence and dreams.”
“Evanescence is my favorite band because they will always be there. Your friends screw you over, your boyfriend/girlfriends screw you over, your parents, your job, your family, they all screw you over. Evanescence won’t wake up one day and decide they don’t like me anymore. They will ALWAYS be there.”
Amy Lee said she doesn’t like the Everybody’s Fool video because it’s too silly, not very serious but in my opinion, that video is the darkest of all of their videos. Of course there’s Lithium and Sweet Sacrifice with the very gothy, like oooh dramatic sets and long Victorian dresses but Everybody’s Fool is so raw and so real and not as embellished as the rest of them that I find it really dark and haunting. With Amy chopping of her iconic black hair, smashing a mirror, chugging a bottle of medicine, nearly drowning herself… I find it haunting, like I really can’t shake that imagery. Just my thoughts on it, please feel free to chime in :)
