Another award travesty. Carol directed by Todd Haynes should have taken it home. The people behind these awards are old, rich, white men. If a film is “too” artistic and contains any configuration of multi-layered depth and nuance, it will never win.
I think it’s fantastic that it was nominated, however. The problem was that Carol was too impeccably artful to be granted the award. It was essentially an art film. And this will always unfortunately be the scenario when you have people who have no business judging art giving out awards. I am sure there was also some lesbophobia in the mix.
Golden Globe or not, it was the most exquisite film I have seen in decades.
