Dollars & Sense: Why This Moisturizing Bar Beats Out Bottled Water
The best skincare products may not be cheap, but trust us: they’re worth every penny. Every week, we’ll break down the math and show you exactly why our latest pick is a smart splurge. This week, we’re showing off one of our new April finds!
Our pick of the week: We first became intrigued by Erno Laszlo when we saw that the brand’s past and present client list was like a Who’s Who of Hollywood: Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Madonna, just to name a few. If so many iconic celebs swore by the brand’s signature cleansing bars, we figured we had to try it for ourselves.
At first glance, Erno Laszlo's Active pHelityl Soap looks like any bar of soap you’ll find on the drugstore shelves. But don’t be fooled, this bar is actually the exact opposite of regular bar soap: it adds moisture and balances out your skin’s pH levels with natural safflower seed oil and moisturizing glycerin. Use it with Erno Laszlo’s intensive (but worthwhile) face-splashing technique, and we think you’ll be as super-pleased with the results as we are.
Hello~ Here is a quick life post from today. How do you guys like the alliteration in my blog post title?
I took my last final yesterday. Today consisted of 2.5 hours of packing then another 3 hours driving back home from campus. With the added stress, unusual study hours, cleaning and driving, I was desperate for a much-needed facial.
This is also an updated post of the products that I use for my skin.

Tired of oily skin or non-stop oil spill T-Zones? Instead of going through packs of oil blotting sheets, save yourself (and your skin) by trying an Oil Controlling Lotion. We recommend Erno Laszlo’s Heavy Controlling Lotion. Put it on at night before bed for at least two weeks and see the difference by day! Expect oil reduction ♥
Now I couldn’t find a direct source for Marilyn’s favourite cosmetic products but when they auctioned off some of her things there was a lot of Erno Lazslo products, which is still around and can be found here. Above are some receipts Marilyn obtained from Erno Laszlo. She also liked Elizabeth Arden.
#1. Eye Primer Smarts. Don’t just pick one at the drugstore and call it a day. If you really want your eye makeup to last, you have to pick the right formulation for your eyelids. Test drive different formulations at the department store and make sure you ask for eyeliner AND eyeshadow to be applied on afterwards. This way you can see how the eye primer can alter the color/texture of eyeshadows. If you have oily lids, make sure you let the makeup artist know - she can pick one less greasy/heavy but equally affective.
#2. There’s no such thing as a one size fits all facial primer. Pick the right primer for your skin type. Heavier primers made for the winter can just add to the pool of grease on your face.
#3. Surprisingly, Moisturize. Yes, Moisturize! even if you have oily skin. Use an oil free moisturizer at night, the more moisturized your skin is, the less oils it needs to produce during the day to balance the skin’s pH. A big plus: moisturized skin helps makeup adhere to the skin.
#4. Invest in an oily controlling lotion for your night routine. Try oil controlling lotions like Erno Laszlo’s Heavy Oil Controlling lotion at night. Apply for a few nights and you will see a reduction of oil by day. The less oil, the less likely your foundation will slip off.
#5. Avoid using toners with alcohol. If you use it on a daily basis, you could end up with an oil spill throughout the day. Alcohol dries up the skin, and combined with summer air cons - your skin could end up producing more oil to balance it out. Good Bye Makeup.
#6. Foundations are not year round. If you are one of the lucky, you can stick to one bottle for all seasons. But if you tend to get oilier in the summer, it’s time to get a mattifying foundation. Unlike simply just “oil-free” foundation, they leave a smooth, powdery finish to prevent melt off so you don’t have to always use loose powder to “set” the foundation. That being said…

I had always felt confident about my complexion until a little while back, when a rather abrupt aesthetician pointed out my every skin flaw, from hyper-pigmentation to clogged pores to a blackhead on my cheek. I immediately vowed to treat my skin a little bit better.
One of the easiest ways to turn distressed skin around is an at-home facial mask. There are so many benefits to using a mask, from improving blood circulation to repairing tissues and elasticity to absorbing access oil. Most importantly, masks force you to stay in and relax! When I don’t have much time, I love using AHAVA’s Time To Clear Purifying Mud Mask for two minutes (as directed). The mask is made with blend of mud and minerals from the Dead Sea, so it’s perfect for sensitive skin. I use this mask twice a week to edge off any rising blemishes and keep my skin super soft.
But after a long make-up filled week, I need to bring out the big guns. Erno Laszlo’s Sea Mud Exfoliating Mask is great for drawing out impurities and brightening an overworked complexion. The combination of sea mud, corn starch, and algae provides instant results and after just one use, my skin looks brighter and feels tighter. I usually leave this mask on for 15 minutes once a week for a longer pampering experience.

Recently I started using the Intensive Porcelain Veil by Erno Laszlo as my daily moisturiser and it has done absolute wonders for my skin. It gives my skin such a healthy glow and I feel as though my skin literally drinks it up when I use it. My skin can be very temperamental and I love to give it the upmost care, thus I am always trying to find the next best thing to pamper it with and this moisturiser certainly does the trick. Now I want the other four creams in the collection, which will set me back a couple hundred pounds. Forget designer handbags, designer skincare always…or maybe both.
This cream is part of the special edition Hollywood collection celebrating 85 years of Erno Laszlo. Each custom blend skincare formulation is inspired by the brand’s most iconic devotees. This particular cream is based on the skin requirements of Katharine Hepburn.
Erno Laszlo has been the dermatologist for many hollywood beauties including Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Ava Gardner and Greta Garbo and is a renowned revolutionary formulator so he certainly knows his stuff.

“Beautifying your skin is neither simple nor an overnight task. It is a matter of constant prevention, protection and correction. If you want skin beauty after 40, you must begin to work at it when you are 20.” - Erno Laszlo
There are two things I remember distinctly about my mom - her Louis Vuitton tote and her Erno Laszlo skin care routine. Once I made enough money, I bought the tote; but now it’s time for the mother load.
I just previewed the full collection at Saks with Erno Laszlo’s dreamy CEO, Charles Denton. Each product was better the be next, their serum can seemingly work magic, their creams felt sublime, and using the Hollywood collection made me feel as close to a star as I will ever get.
Erno Laszlo will also be opening a 10,000 sq ft. space in NYC this October where you will be told what you should do for your skin…not asked. Sort of like 50 Shades ofGrey – but giving you great skin without all that pain. Sounds like heaven to me.
