Scottish Design Awards

We were delighted that the Empire Cafe won an award for Exhibition Design at the Scottish Design Awards last night. Initiated by Collective Architecture Director Jude Barber and writer Louise Welsh, the Empire Cafe was an exploration of Glasgow’s involvement in the slave trade through a series of events and installations. A big thank you to everyone involved in the project!

Other projects nominated for a design award included The Cutty Sark, Great Western Mews, and St Andrews Crescent housing. We were pleased to see so many fantastic projects across Scotland being celebrated at the awards, congratulations to all the winners!

James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe at the photobooth of the 2015 Empire Awards

Empire magazine: Who’s the most exciting person you’ve met tonight that you’ve never met before?

James: Daniel Radcliffe. Oh, that I haven’t met before? I had an exciting moment where somebody jumped in front of me and said, “You need to give me the contact details for your agent.” I was like, “No, I don’t, I’ve got to get to my table because we’re late!” But Daniel bouncered for me. I was like Keira Knightley and he was my ninja.

“I love Daniel Craig, and Sam Mendes’s been an hero of mine, not just in film but in theatre, so I was there. I wanted to contribute to the box office, and when I heard that it was the most successful film in the British box office of all time, I was whooping. In fact I was one of those annoying people in the um.. where was I, I think I was in the vue on Finchley road on the opening saturday night…
…just making general noises out of enthusiasm…”

“We didn’t know what to say when we stood up here,” says McAvoy, “so I’ll just tell you what Daniel suggested, which is that we stand here and look pretty.” x
