After months of dying to go to Breakfast Republic in North Park, I was finally able to get into the new downtown location. For those who are not familiar with the North Park/Hillcrest area, you can find just about anything hipster and yummy for brunch, but the catch is having to wait for hours for your table to be ready (and yes, reservations are non-existing in those areas).
The overall service and interior design of the restaurant did not disappoint, they have just about every component of a hip downtown restaurant crammed into their little space - from grass walls, to venetian plaster-style walls and egg shaped chairs.
All the “cock sucking” references were a little too much for me, but hey, whatever helps their brand.
The food itself (at least what we ordered) was anything but ordinary. And it all felt a little cold.
And oddly enough the whole menu has weird “add-on” suggestions that you have to pay extra for. I mean, if you really think something tastes delicious with something, why wouldn’t you add it to the menu item?
Overall, it was a cute experience, but I hope they step up their game with the food.
