Jo Wilson in Odd Man Out (12x14) ↳ I’m Wilson. Jo Wilson, Dr. Josephine Alice Wilson. I’m a surgeon. I’m a human being, I’m not some stupid lump that you can just kick around, talk down to, or talk down about, or dismiss and discount. I get it. You don’t like me. But I’m here. I’m in Alex’s life, and I’m staying, and you have to start respecting that.
I know a lot will find this weird or even don't care to read this, but I wanted to bring this into the light because Alexander Michael Karev is the most UNDERRATED character and BEST doctor /surgeon on the show. Most if not the whole fandom missed it because they were too busy with the "holly" McDreamy drama, they missed HUGE medical ACHIEVEMENTS Alex did on his own, accomplishments that goes back to S1. P.S:
this post will be long so I really hope you hang on because I can promise you it will be worth it (hope so).
let's start with S1 (you know the season where everyone was too busy hating him, missed the few good things/scenes he had).
1. first achievement:
is in S1E08, Alex has a patient who need a valve replacement thus they need to use pig's valve. the patient is a Jewish orthodox so she can't have a pig's heart, Alex does some research and finds out that they can use a cow's valve instead. yes true maybe he didn't invent the procedure or did the surgery, but he found an alternative procedure, a procedure Burk didn't think about or consider until Alex brought it up and he was only an intern at the time.
2. second achievement:
is in s2e02, patient came in with stomach problems after the x-rays everyone assumed that he swallowed bags of cocaine, until Alex noticed that it has faces when they deemed the lighting it was more clear then they all were able to see it as well. ok this wasn't a real accomplishment but he still noticed something most doctors dismisses as something else. he was still an intern at the time.
3. third achievement:
is in S2E13, a patient/writer ate his novel/book because it wasn't good, Alex was thought there was something more than just the block of paper in his stomach, he checked up on the patient even though Dr. Webber told him that he needs to look after the floor, and because Alex followed up on the patient he diagnosed and saved him from mercury poisoning. he was still an intern at the time.
4. fourth achievement:
is in S3E06,Alex helps to calm down the baby by talking about sports (boxing, because the father was talking about baseball/football) of a pregnant woman during surgery because she was in distress , because he read articles talking to baby can calm it down when distressed/moving. he was only an intern.
5. fifth achievement:
is in S5E17, Alex a patient who's diagnosed with epilepsy and she has seizers because of her epilepsy, while sitting with the patient Alex notices that her heart rate goes down then she seizes, he then tells Hunt & Robins about what he noticed and they don't believe him but Alex insists on what he saw so Hunt tells him if he's wrong then the patient's death is on him, during the surgery it's proven that Alex was right and the patient was WRONGLY diagnosed with epilepsy, the right diagnoses is abnormal heart arrhythmias. He was only a resident at the time but he was able to diagnose a condition more senior doctor misdiagnose. Hunt even told him he let the chief know of what he did, and Robins told him it's pretty impressive for a resident and that he could be the future of the hospital.
is in S6E13, Alex has a patient who suffered from abdominal pains, the father doesn't believe his son and thinks he's lying to get off school, Alex advocates for his patient, later on after surgery (which they didn't find anything wrong) Alex had to open his chest because there was blood in the breathing tube, when he did he found the source of the bleeding which is cause because of ruptured aortic dissection, Teddy stated that's very rarely caught early let alone fixed before it's too late. he was only a resident at the time.
7. seventh achievement:
is in S6E22, A patient comes in because she tried to claw her eyes out, her parents told Alex that she's been diagnosed schizophrenic, because Alex has a history/experience with schizophrenia he believed her when she said she's not crazy, and he read an article and run tests and was able to diagnose her, a diagnoses that's very hard to diagnose because it's very rare, he yet again corrected another misdiagnoses and helped the patient. he was only a resident at the time.
8. eightieth achievement:
is in S7E8,Alex has a baby patient who had surgery for a liver transplant but the donor liver was too big for her tiny body so the attending PEDS surgeon just left it as it is, until Alex came up with an idea (all on his own) to take paint pang ball and use it to help stop the liver from compressing on her blood vessels. an idea that SAVED the baby and his attending was an asshole and took/tried to take credit for it. he was still a resident at the time.
9. ninth achievement:
is in S7E12, this one is not a real medical achievement but unlike all of his fellow residents Alex actually taught the medical students (including the one he's in charge of) some sutures, he was actually a good teacher. he was only a resident at the time.
is in S7E19, Alex started a program for African kids with medical problems and need surgeries they can't offered, now yes it wasn't well prepared and he did technically negotiate with a sick old patient to get the money (which he did NOT get until later and paid for everything HIMSELF) but he achieved it none the less and he kept alive later on for years to come. he was only a resident at the time.
is in S8E23, Hopkins (BEST program, the DREAM any/every surgeon dreams of) WANTS Alex as an attending so much they created a position JUST for him, yes I do consider this as an achievement.
is in S13E4, a patient comes in to the clink and everyone thinks she's an alcoholic but Alex diagnoses her with a very rare dieses, a dieses that's very hard to diagnose but he couldn't take credit at the time. he was and attending (sort of) at the time.
these are just few of the amazing Alex has achieved throughout the years but no one has noticed or cared because fans are too busy with the McDreamy drama and/or his achievements or the achievements of other more popular characters. this and much more is why Alex Michael Karev DESERVES TO HAVE MORE STORYLINES THAT CENTERS AROUNF HIM, HE DESERVES TO BE MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE THAN JUST THE "GOOD FRIEND" HE'S MUCH MORE THAN JUST " THE GOOD FRIEND" OR "BOYFRIEND" HE SHOULD BE GIVEN MORE INDEPENDENT STORYLINES/CASES.
Prompt: Hayley (Private practice) from rehab comes in the ER looking for help with her injuries shes got because she’s high. April talks about her and Amelia hears about it and runs to Hayley’s patient room. She helps her to get clean and they talk about each others lives and what’s been up since they said goodbye.
Author’s Note : So this would be integrated into my family fic universe, which you can check out here:
In this fic- Amelia is 2 months pregnant with their first child, Charlotte Addison.
Thank you to the girls in the group chat and Heli @fight-till-u-cant-fight-anymore for answering my questions about Hailey from PP :) I’m still a few episodes away from watching her, but I can’t wait to write this fic ;)
Heli- this fic is for you- because I know you’re the one who sent the prompt and your url name is one of Amelia’s quotes which would appear in this fic ;)
Thank you also to the amazing Julisa @jia911 for helping me to proofread this fic and give feedback!!
Additional note : I’ve to admit- Hailey in PP is what I feel deep down in my heart and Amelia’s advice is what I subconsciously wish someone would tell me. Which is why this fic is rather personal to me.
Anyways, enough of my rambling- I really hope you all enjoy this fic!! <3 <3 Please do let me know what you think!!
Amelia Shepherd leaned against the ER nurses counter as she finished writing her review of a 16 year old patient who suffered persistent headaches and vomiting.
‘Wilson, can you arrange Robert for the next available MRI slot? ’she ordered Jo Wilson as she passed the electronic chart to the resident.
‘ Right at your service, Dr. Shepherd.’ Jo answered.
Ever since Stephanie Edwards quit, Jo Wilson had been the resident on Amelia’s service. Although Amelia still missed Stephanie and her enthusiasm towards neuro, she had to admit that Jo had been growing on her. Jo had recently started to show interest in neuro- requesting to be on Amelia’s service more frequently and scrubbing in on her neurological procedures.
‘ Nadia, can you book a room for him? ’she instructed one of the nurses at the counter.
‘ Sure, Dr. Shepherd.’Nadia nodded in reply.
Amelia was popular among the nurses too- they didn’t mind doing tasks for her and following her orders because she was one of the more polite attendings who treated them like her equals.
‘ Thank you.’Amelia said as she took one last look at Robert’s electronic chart before handing it over to Jo. ‘Wilson - do update me on his progress and inform me once the MRI results are out.’
Jo nodded as she took the electronic chart from Amelia.
Satisfied that Robert has been settled- Amelia placed the electronic chart on the nurses counter and looked around the busy ER. She wanted to single out the cases which might require neuro review. She had this talent of spotting neuro cases at a glance. She had a craniotomy scheduled in a couple of hours, and wanted to make sure that she had reviewed all the neuro patients in the ER before she left.
There is a war brewing in the shipping fandom, and it’s been stirring the waters since May, 2015.
Now, people are getting up in arms about fans reading into the Alex and Meredith friendship since Derek’s death, and it’s really grating on some of the hardcore Jolex shippers. Why? Where does this come from after 11 years of Merder, Alex and Meredith as brother/sister, countless person moments and generally being ‘just friends’? Why does this threaten Jolex and unsettle their fan-base?
Because Merlex is a plausibility.
I’ve watched this show for ten years, I was a huge, huge Merder fan and they were my OTP. The thought of Merlex never crossed my mind, not even once, because Meredith was exactly where she needed to be, and Alex still had a lot of growing to do. There was no reason for them to be together during 1-11. But that is no longer the case. I’m not talking about actuality, and what the show is or is not inferring to, I’m talking about possibility. Because, in the face of adversity, Merlex is completely possible.
Meredith / Alex are OG
The show is beginning to push a widow-no-more Meredith agenda and it seems like she’s going to start finding out “who she is” again. The thing is, we know who Meredith is, we’ve seen that for 12 years - with and without Derek. Alex and Meredith have shared the screen for the longest time and they are the longest running friendship next to Bailey and Richard. Twelve years of developing one another, sharing misfortunes, propping one another up and generally being the loyalest of friends. How in the world does the Merder bereaved fandom accept Dr Random or the recycled vet Dr Riggs possibility? We’ve seen her tragedy unfold and we don’t want that retelling, especially to Dr Random-who-no-one-is-invested-in. Alex understands that dark and twisty side to her, he has the time invested to really make something more of their friendship, just as much as she does. They have a history that binds, and hell, even Jo is threatened by that…which again, brings the word ‘possibility’ to the forefront; it’s not as though these fears are borne from absolute ludicrousness.
He was initially attracted to her
The attraction was there from the beginning. Alex made several comments about being attracted to Meredith in the pilot and wasn’t ashamed to hide it from anyone he talked to, including Meredith. But like I said, Meredith was already where she needed to be and “kind of seeing someone”. So, truth-be-told, it’s not a lie to say that there is a general attraction, at least from Alex’s camp. Does that fade over time? Or do you just bury that? Can you rekindle that same attraction? Maybe is a real possibility. You can’t rule that out because it’s set there in stone as of 1x01.
They’re already invested in loving and protecting one another
He watches her knit and she helps him with his boards, fast-forward a decade or so and he’s the guy telling her to rub snot from her face and being the tequila fairy, and she’s hiding rings and delivering him on a platter. It’s not hard for these two to readily be there for the other. They love one another pure and simple, and they’ve both said that to friends and lovers. Like Alex said “she’s the only one I can count on.” Isn’t that a beautifully solid base to potentially start something more on? Wouldn’t Derek rather her have that solid foundation for her to build on than Dr. Random?
Jo can see the potential
How age-old is that whole jealousy plot-line wherein a character a involved with character b is jealous of character c because of some long and sordid history? Jo has every right to be jealous because Alex and Meredith are (at times) inappropriate. Granted, every moment of S12 between Meredith and Alex has been from a friendship outlook, but they’re each others’ MAGIC Person Legend. He sleeps in her room after the attack, she climbs into the middle of his bed with Jo in it, he gets drunk with her in her bedroom, he ignores his girlfriend’s problems to see to hers, she dislikes his girlfriend (for some unfathomable reason) etc. Jo has become constantly aware and fearful of the Merlex friendship, because she can see a potential there between them unless she can finally get Alex to commit.
They’re growing in the same direction
They work in the same environment and that’s a huge benefit. Usually the doctors are at odds with non-medical partners because they can’t commit to separating work from home. Every doctor on the show is dating medical personnel. Grey’s does not work for characters outside of the hospital and it’d be weird to have to cut to Meredith’s significant other outside of GSM, or have him live inside the hospital which is completely implausible. Alex and Meredith are both growing in the same direction with the same goals, unlike Derek and Meredith, or Jo and Alex who have canyon-sized gaps in their goals for their careers. They know that they have to push one another to have to get to where they want to go and both understand the fact that they have careers to advance. They’re on a level playing field and that’s a lot more stable than an intern/attending relationship.
It’s been shown time and time again that Jo is falling prey to her age. Jo has yet to experience anything akin to marriage, divorce and death. Merlex have been there and done that, why back-pedal? They are comfortable in their ways. They understand each other. Isn’t it high-time for the doctors to start dating people their own age?
These are just a few of the hundred or so reasons why a Merlex partnership is possible. Like I said, it may never happen, but it’s not impossible. So, to the naysayers, calm down and let the Merlex fans enjoy the possibility, because it’s damn-well out there. If nothing comes of it, sit back and sip some tequila for Alex and Meredith who never crossed the line and enjoy whatever Shonda has written for them. But for now, be fearful of the potential, because no one has said no yet, and until Merlex sings, anything is game.
Like Meredith said after claiming she doesn’t feel for Alex:
What can I say? This soulmate AU absolutely warmed the cockles of my heart! Also love how at the end it wasn’t immediately all sappy and rainbows, and that you instead chose a more realistic approach for their first meeting.
You were probably one of the first people I followed on here, but everyone who doesn’t yet really needs to go check out your amazing blog! Congratulations, you rock!
Dean had heard this story a thousand times already.
“- and as soon as I saw her I said,” Sam continued with a breathless laugh, “Ma’am, I’m sorry but you can’t leave the library through the fire escape.” He looked over at Jess who smiled coyly and lifted up her pant leg to show those exact words imprinted across her calf like a tattoo.
“So then what did she say?” Anna asked, obviously enraptured by the story of how the two soulmates had met just a few days before.
Sam grinned slyly and unbuttoned the top button of his shirt to pull it aside, revealing the words “Watch Me” marked on his skin.
“Then we kind of just stopped and stared at each other for a while once we realized what had happened.”
“You don’t know how many library fire escapes I’ve used over the years trying to find him.” Jess said with a playful slap against Sam’s shoulder.
Dean watched as Sam gazed into Jess’s eyes with more adoration than he’d ever seen his brother give to anyone.
They were obviously perfect for each other.
“Excuse me,” Dean mumbled, and pushed his chair out from the bar counter. Faintly, he could hear Jess asking Sam if they’d said anything wrong as he swung the bar door open to leave.
He could almost imagine Sam’s practiced speech.
“No,” he’d say. “Soulmates are just a touchy subject for Dean. He - he doesn’t have one.”
Dr. Alex Karev could be going away for a long time.
After surrendering himself to the district attorney for attacking Dr. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), Alex (Justin Chambers) is ready to face his sentence. But exactly how long could his sentence could be comes as a shock to Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).
“30 years to life?!” Meredith says in disbelief in an exclusive sneak peek at from Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
As fans of the show recall, Alex brutally beat up DeLuca in the season 12 finale after finding him in a compromising position with Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), though he later discovered DeLuca had just been helping a drunk Jo through a crisis.
Last week, fans didn’t get much of an update on Dr. Karev’s possible sentencing until Dr. Miranda Bailey revealed to Jo that he had decided to take the plea deal and go to prison to serve out his time. In response, Jo jumped out of a car and threw up all over the road.
Tief in deinem Inneren weißt du was du willst. Liebe verlangt immer ein enormes Vertrauen es ist wie ein Sprung über einen Graben heißer Lava, dir wird vielleicht dein Herz gebrochen aber vielleicht wirst du auch der glücklichste Mensch der Welt.
Dr. Jo Laughin, The Vampire diaries, Staffel 6, Folge: 20. Von Ripper zu Ripper
In the case of British actress Camilla Luddington, art does not imitate life. And for that, she can be thankful, given that she plays volatile, troubled Dr. Jo Wilson on Grey’s Anatomy, which returns to ABC on Thursday.
In real life, Luddington, 33, is stable, settled, serene and expecting her first child with her partner, actor Matthew Alan. She’s in her third trimester and is not revealing the sex of her baby, but says she’s finally found her fashion groove.
“Before I got pregnant, I had this image in my head that I would be trying to cover the new curves,” she tells Yahoo Style. “I decided to embrace it.”
Form-fitting, tight clothes make her feel sexy. “I’m still in leather pants and a cute shirt when I go out to dinner. I feel prettier on the red carpet [in snug clothing]. I feel like embracing the curves has been something I discovered,” she says. “Why not wear leather or something with sheer-paneled sides? Flaunt it.”
She wasn’t always feeling so comfortable with her pregnancy.
“I had a horrible first trimester,” Luddington recalls. “I felt like I should be high on life and no one told me that you would feel so exhausted. I felt like I had taken some sort of sleeping pill. I had really bad nausea. I lost weight because I had such bad nausea. It’s the one time I stepped on a scale and been so angry about it going down.” Then, by about five months, she started feeling like herself again. “It’s been difficult,” she admits. “All those things — feeling your baby kick, hearing a heartbeat, those things remind you: This is why I’m doing this.”
She works with a slew of other parents, including Justin Chambers, Ellen Pompeo, and Jessica Capshaw — which means Luddington is continuously hitting them up for childcare tips.
“It does feel like a family. I’ve been harassing all the other mothers on set to give me any advice possible,” she says, adding that the best thing she’s been told is to “be forgiving of yourself,” which has been helpful, because, “In my pregnancy, I have this idea that I’d go to yoga twice a day. I felt exhausted and tired.”
The kids of cast members come to set all the time, running around in the hair and makeup trailer, and Luddington often gets dolled up while holding a baby in her arms. She’s also adjusting to the new reality of shooting a show while heavily pregnant.
But regarding art, not life, what about fans’ burning question: Will Jo ever find love, or some version thereof? Or will she continue to sabotage herself?
“What I can tell you is the next three episodes take place right after the season finale. It’s the 72 hours after everything happens,” she explains. “Jo is in a complicated place with Alex [Chambers]. But I think she still is madly, completely in love with him. Her reaction to the drama that is happening with him means that she is destroyed by it.”
But the show’s actors don’t get their scripts until Monday, the day of the table read. So often what you see on camera is their authentic reactions to some of the show’s most emotionally insane cuts and bruises.
“What that means is, we’re all discovering the storylines at the same time,” Luddington says. “It makes for the most emotional table reads. It’s almost like we’re the audience, just with no wine. People are gasping and crying.” But initially, she says, “What you’re going to see is not some great reconciliation [between Jo and Alex]. Just more traumatic storylines and drama between them.”
And what about her pregnancy, which is becoming more and more obvious? “We have maybe seven or so episodes to go. I’m only just starting to show on camera, so they’re having to hide it,” she says. But then she teases, “As of right now, it’s being hidden. But I don’t know if it’s going to stay that away.”
A baby for Jo (who is, um, already married to someone else) and Alex? Stranger things have happened.
